Not the biggest fan of mead, but enjoyed our tasting! Their space was very big/open and they had a nice inside and outside atmosphere. Was a bit warm outside, so we sat inside and played games. They also have really cute merch/local art and items for purchase. Definitely one of the more expensive tastings in Sonoita for the amount of mead you receive. Would recommend just getting a glass of one rather than trying various meads. read more

What a beautiful spot! Incredible outdoor space with stunning views of Sonoita. I'm not a mead or winery pro, but the casual, cozy, laid back vibes of this spot were what I was hoping for. I shared a flight with my husband. Space cowboy was my favorite, his too. They offer one goat cheese board with cheese, almonds, crackers, and chocolate. They also sold packaged cheeses, salamis, and chips in a tiny gift shop space they have, I suppose you could add that to your board as well if you wanted, probably would need your own knife though. My 12 month old was able to pet goats, wander around grass, and play in their big playhouse. Not a bad spot to snap some beautiful family photos either! Dog friendly. Visited the Meadung Room for the first time last month and I already can't wait to go back. I was thrilled to see such a nice selection of ciders and group devoured our cheese board (and then a second.) The atmosphere and ambiance was perfect and we were lucky to enjoy some relatively cool springtime temps. I'll definitely be adding the Meading Room to my list of fabulous Southern Arizona spots to bring visitors and am looking forward to a return trip, hopefully soon. read more

My boyfriend and I aren't wine drinkers or alcohol drinkers in general. However, we are experimenters and like trying new things. We never know when we are going to come across something that peaks our interest. We initially got a sparking water with tea and a coffee soda. Then, we saw the flight options. There were some intriguing flavors (and in all about unique flavors and pairings in general). We got a nice flight and truly enjoyed them all. I guess we also learned we like Mead, who knew :). The outdoor ambiance is cute and has an amazing view. The inside was cute and cozy as well. I highly recommend and we want to come back to try some more flavors :) read more

A friend who is local recommended the place. I wouldn't have thought of specifically going to taste Meade, but we are so happy to have discovered this place. The flavors of the Meade and cidre are creative, the grounds are beautiful (truly beautiful views), and the people who run the place are kind. I've been here a few times as I'm a big cider fan. They have intimate indoor seating that kind of resembles a casual coffeehouse vibe. They have nice outdoor seating options too for when it gets crowded. I always get a tasting of 5 ciders to try out their many interesting flavors. My favorite ciders are the blueberry and pumpkin ciders thus far. It's right across from AZ Hops & Vines so I always stop in during my Sonoita trips to check out the seasonal flavor. read more

The Meading Room - Cider Tasting - Wineries Near Me - Sonoita, Arizona

Attended their annual May Day festival comprising 8-10 vendors and 2 food trucks. We purchased some dry chai tea and jams (separate reviews). Halfway through the 1-5p event there were about 60 people including about 20 children... a family friendly despite not a lot focused on kids specifically. Plenty of outdoor space and a few board games setup inside at various lounging areas. One food truck specializing in breads had just run out (a shame given the spicy jams we found). The other food truck carried the torch, though started to run out near the end. It was the German Brats truck (separate review) and was a delightful surprise for both of us! On to the meads! Quick/simplified fermentation intro: grapes=wine; fruit=cider; honey=mead. This place specializes in meads and ciders and boy are their flavors amazing and inventive! We found the space cowboy (raspberry) a little too sweet and a tiny bit tasting like a drop or two of cough syrup was included, Lol. The orange blossom was very good. But our mutual fav was the chili mango. Note some of these are ciders and some meads. While none are "syrupy" (they all pour like beer or cider) the meads had a noticeably thicker taste, likely from their honey origins. I'm certainly no expert on meads but I did a fair amount of reading on different websites to become informed first (try this orientation: https://www.seriouseats.com/what-is-mead-how-is-mead-made-best-bottles). They can certainly be carbonated (as all appear to be here and is our preference) but historically they weren't. The only prerequisite for "mead" is the source of the sugar being fermented (honey). Just like wine/grapes and cider/fruit, anything can be carbonated either by forcing CO2 at bottling or adding a tiny amount of sugar/yeast before capping for a natural bubble creation inside the bottle. Flights or samplers are a good way to try a variety but they are very expensive here. Most establishments charge about $3 but you get a 3oz pour. Here it's a 2oz mini cup (think smaller than for dentist's rinse) and they fill them only 2/3 full. Normal servings are around $8 for a 10oz cup. To do the math, at the "tasting rate" 10oz is $15! I think $2/flight of this size is far more reasonable... and would encourage a broader take-home experience. We did buy a 750ml bottle of the amazing chili-mango ($22) to take home. Parking is free and plentiful. The one restroom is spacious, elegant, and clean. Seating areas are plentiful and an ice water pitcher with cups is at the end of the main counter for easy self service. I look forward to returning! read more

Spent the weekend in Sonoita for my annual girls trip. It was such an amazing time. This place for sure added to our overall enjoyment! The Meading Room gets 5 stars just for ambiance and cuteness alone. Thankfully they also have tasty booze :) Pros: - beautifully decorated space! - inside or outside seating is a great vibe. - we sat on the patio though because the weather was perfect and the sunset was beautiful. - I did a mead tasting. Bartender was friendly and explained a little bit about mead to the ladies new to it in my group. I mean I'm kind of new to it. I know it's essentially "honey wine". I have not drank much of it but so far I like it. Tends to be on the sweeter side (duh honey) but the right flavor combinations can be so pleasant. Cons: - they closed at 6pm on Friday evening but that seems to be the norm for Sonoita. Most places were closing up early. We would have stayed longer but no worries, it was a great time while we were there. read more

This was my first stop Wednesday afternoon in Sonoita. We walked up and there were chickens just hanging out in the grass yard....omg so cute!! I loved this place immediately. I want to come back here when it's cooler outside and hang out with the chickens. We walked inside and I noticed a really cute library with reading chairs. We each did a tasting of 5 drinks, falling under the categories of sparkling mead, standard mead and cider. I do not like sweet drinks and appreciated their star ratings to tell you how sweet each one is. You also get a bag of chips with your tasting. I preferred the sparkling meads to the standard ones and found their descrptions of flavors very accurate. The standard meads tasted flat after having the sparkling ones, so maybe start with the standard ones before tasting the sparkling ones. When I come back, I will just get a glass of the sparkling Orange Blossom Special, my favorite. They have a little playhouse for kids outside and cornhole. The views outside were very beautiful, especially with all the rain recently making everything green. read more

We took advantage of their cozy corner where a giant Scrabble board was waiting for us to play. We didn't get to finish the whole game because we had other places to go and people to see. I'm not one to leave reviews but this place deserves it. It was my birthday and they went way above and beyond. All of the meads were some of the best I've had. The lavender is a must. Please go here. You won't regret it. They also have ciders and wines on their menu if you're vegan. I've legitimately never been treated better. read more

Visited the The Meading Room for a birthday celebration and we LOVED it. It's the perfect spot to hang out with friends, with a fantastic outdoor space and a selection of food trucks that was much needed because we spent a lot of time there. The service was friendly and helpful, and they offer a great tasting flight if you're unsure which mead to try. It's a relaxed, fun atmosphere that's great for unwinding with unique drinks and good company. I'm glad we got there right when they opened so we were able to snag some comfy couches and chairs inside. The line got pretty long though not too long after, so if you're going to make a day of it I recommend getting there early to grab a good spot. read more

The Meading Room is definitely a gem tucked away in southern Arizona's wine country. They have a wide variety of meads and ciders brewed on-site - sweeter than your typical alcoholic drinks. They offer your choice of 5 of their drinks for a tasting ($10) which comes with a free bag of chips. The alcohol was good, though a bit too sweet for my liking. However, the seating areas are very welcoming. The interior design is reminiscent of an modern classic library, complete with a chess board, with ample seating areas on couches. If the Arizona heat allows, the outdoor patio provides shelter from the sun and has materials for a few outdoor games. Overall I was quite impressed with my visit to the Meading Room and look forward to visiting again to try out more of their mead/cider collection. read more

So cute! This location has local honey options, jerky, and more on top of the alcohol choices. You can grab a $5 souvenir glass that is very good quality and absolutely adorable. I recommend the El Jefe Cider which has.. prickly pear! Wow! I'm definitely a sucker for anything prickly pear since I grew up with homemade jelly/jam and syrup. The atmosphere is relaxed and so open. You can grab a couch cushion or chair. Play some corn hole, bocce ball, or just draw with chalk on a table. Take the trip! read more

Who would think that Arizona had several wineries! An hour outside Tucson in Sonoita, Az there are several great places. During a Christmas visit to see my family, my brother drove us out to check out these wineries on a week day. We hit the Meading Room first. Unfortunately we got there later in the day and they were only open till 4pm so we didn't have a lot of time to hang out. What a great place! The Ciders and honey wine are wonderful. There was a big selection so it was fun to try a flight. The prices were good too. The outdoor area is pretty and I only wish we had gotten there earlier to enjoy it more. This place was definitely worth the drive out there. I highly recommend anyone living in Tucson or surrounding cities to go check out this place. Hmmm, mead you say? Interesting and different, and Sonoita's The Meading Room serves it up very well!!! Located in one of Arizona's best wine regions, The Meading Room steps away from the standard fare of outstanding wines and craft beers for a delightfully refreshing beverage with lots of flavor choices. Fermented honey is key to the process, and the staff is kind and knowledgeable in its explanations of the various meads and flavors. There is basically something for everyone (well, as long as they are 21+). And the views!!! This lovely establishment is located on a hill overlooking many of the other farms and wineries. And seating! Indoor and outdoor, with some near a beautiful planting of lavender. From this comfy seats (which frequently surround cozy fire pits), you can see the bee homes dotting the fences. There is a beautiful, long porch with additional seating (and heaters) that protect you from the wind. Inside are even more seats around the airy building. The bar has many purse hooks for convenience. The bathroom is unisex and clean and large. The interior is decorated by a large book case and many craft items and jewelry. Basically anywhere you look, you will find something to catch your eye (including those amazing views). Next time you are in Sonoita or if you are looking for something interesting to do, head to The Meading Room, try some amazing meads, and enjoy a glass while relaxing. Lovely indoors and outside with comfy seating to great lawn space for a game of fetch with your dog or tables to bring your own picnic. I highly recommend. My friend was visiting from out of state and I was looking for something fun to do that we hadn't already done on previous visits. While looking for some wineries, this popped up. Fun idea for something to do that wasn't too far away from Tucson! For only $10 you get to pick five different samples of their meads. The gal working explained a little about the various options, and we each created our own flights based on what sounded interesting to us. My favorite was the blueberry one, but I was surprised at how very different they each tasted. The tasting also came with a little snack of chips, cookies, or popcorn. We took our drinks to one of the cute little sitting areas and enjoyed trying them. They have a few other small items for sale in there as well--shirts, honey varieties, soaps, books, etc. There were a few high top tables and sitting areas for small groups to enjoy. They even had a piano with some music options. My friend played a few tunes while others were tasting their meads. It was an enjoyable and relaxing couple of hours. read more

Hello Mead, so delicious to meet you! These were the thoughts bubbling away as I tasted sparking mead for the very first time and YES, it was a joyous experience! True, I was aware of mead from a sampling many years ago in the Seattle area, but sparkling mead!?! OMG, what a gold-mine of a find. The Meading Room earns 5 stars on its oh-so-creative-unique offering alone, but combined with their hippish venue, fabulous location, invitingly cool space and the plethora of QUALITY mead varieties, this place is a no-brainer. The offerings of sparkling and non-sparkling mead in addition to ciders and amazing wines were simply delightful. My favorite is their "Old N. 9" roasted hatch chili wine. Not a typo....HATCH CHILI WINE. It's simply unreal and must be experienced. Our favorite meads are the Lavender Pear Bubbly Mead & Golden Child Sunflower Honey. Flights are only $10 for 5 selections and worth every penny. Our host was super knowledgeable, gracious and sported a fun and positive vibe which only enhanced our wonderful experience. No doubt we shall return, so if you're looking for a unique experience just a stone's throw from Tucson, get there....uh, like now! read more

This is a wonderful local brewery that specializes in meads and ciders. They have a wide variety of them on the menu, and almost all of them are worth trying (though a couple tasted like cough syrup). We came here for the tasting. For $10 you can choose up to 5 drinks to try, and it comes with a bag of chips too. I opted for the poppables, and my traveling partner opted for the Sunchips. Both paired surprisingly well with the drinks, as the saltiness provided a counterbalance to the sugary drinks. Apart from that, the place is well kept. There is a small gift shop in the lobby area, where you can buy clothing, books, snacks, and others. It is also very dog friendly, though I would be sure to keep them on a leash if you go in the yard, since there are free roaming chickens and roosters mulling about. Overall, not a bad place to spend a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. read more

This is far from the first place we have tried Mead, but by far one of the best. The selection of wines and meads was perfect and tasty. The atmosphere was beautiful inside and outside the tasting room. You can get Goat cheese boards ( there are a few types of Goat cheese to choose from ) the amount was plenty for my husband and I to share. They also have additional items in the cold case. I thought the pours were fair, and the pricing I consider my entertainment for the day. This was a nice change from only wines. We had a great experience. read more
