I had the most relaxing get away at Xanadu Ranch. Karen is the hostess and provides a full orientation to your accommodations and the outside areas. We were the only guest at the time and the quiet was wonderful. The space was clean; the bed was very comfortable; there was full bath and kitchen (fridge had trouble keeping things cold, never got above 45 degrees so take a good ice chest). The kitchen amenities were perfect for making breakfast and a couple of dinners during our 5 night stay. It was nice to have access to a TV but they do need to replace the swivel head which is broken and the TV is at a 45 degree downward angle. We propped it up with a roll of paper towels!! It worked. The outdoor space around the koi pond is so tranquil and pleasant that my husband and I hung out in our PJ and had coffee every morning. At night it was a great place to take in the stunning night skies. If you time it right you get ti watch Karen feed the giant koi Karen was very good at guiding us to the wineries and I can't thank her enough for recommending the Sonoita winery whose MeCaSah wine is truly an award winner. We also went the Vera Earl Beef which sell aged beef..so good. Also of note is the Copper Brothel Brewery where I had the best chicarrones ever and I don't want to leave out The Corner Scoop for the best breakfast burritos. All in all it was so enjoyable and hope to return. read more

The grounds are beautiful and serene. We always stay in Bunkhouse B. It was clean and the perfect size for the 2 of us. Loved the front porch and sitting out there for coffee in the morning and wine in the late afternoons. Karen and Bernie are amazing, welcoming hosts. Absolutely enjoyed our stay at Xanadu Ranch. We arrived not knowing what to expect. What we got was above our expectations. From our initial welcome we received from Karen to the cute fully furnished casita it was perfect. Our room was clean and had a good supply of the essentials we would need for our stay . Bed was comfortable . There is also a nice map for exploring the local wineries. The early morning sky was incredible for stargazing. We enjoyed coffee on the patio and had a great conversation with Karen while listening to the relaxing sounds of the koi pond. We will definitely be returning. read more

This was a fun and interesting place to stay. My wife and I definitely enjoyed the privacy, the comfortable bed, the amenities (more on those in a minute), and the view. The reason I mentioned privacy is that you have your own little cabin. So right there, that's a big selling point to me - no neighbors to speak of. I mean, sure someone could be occupying the cabin across from you, but still, it's not like you're sharing a wall by any means. And the place itself is a bit away from the center of town, but the location is still great because it's convenient to the town of Sonoita (and/or Patagonia, which is another interesting and fun town). I liked the tour of the facility that I got when I arrived. She did a great job showing me around, explaining how things work, how to lock the door, all that, that was an excellent orientation, and she was personable (I wish I could remember her name though). Now, the room/cabin. We chose Casita room #1, and we were happy with it. The bed was very comfortable, the heating/cooling worked well, it has a really nice view out the back (like out the kitchen window in particular but the whole back side has a nice view), and you have plenty of amenities, especially the kitchen/food related items. You have almost a full kitchen. I mean, like an actual STOVE with pots and pans! You can cook your own breakfast easily in here (or obviously cook other things), there's even a toaster. And a full size refrigerator too, so you can bring food and/or store plenty of wine. And the kitchen area has a table, so you can actually eat IN the kitchen, you don't have to try to figure out how to eat on your bed or on the couch. Oh yeah, there's a couch in between the bedroom and kitchen. Satellite television with plenty of choices. I know, I mentioned the view, so why would you be watching television? In our case, it happened to be unusually cold and rainy weather in Sonoita over New Year's weekend 2021/2022. The bathroom was fine, this may be the one area in which maybe a few improvements would make this place even more enjoyable. The shower is a little quirky. And by "quirky," I mean it's not all that easy to figure out exactly how to maneuver the handle/knob in order to get both the right temperature and pressure out of the shower (it's a kind of small shower). I mean, there's really nothing wrong with the water pressure, but the temperature can be tricky to figure out - it's a single handle that tilts. Also, maybe replace the bathroom rugs. But that's a small nit. Overall, this was a very enjoyable place to stay and we'd stay there again in Sonoita. read more

The Bunk House is spacious, well-stocked, and full of lots of conveniences. We especially enjoyed the outdoor seating on the deck as well as the front porch. We spent a few days before Thanksgiving at Xanadu Ranch.....our second stay there in a couple of years. We were in Casita #1 which we always enjoy because it's quiet and comfortable, with a great view of the area to the west. We sat on the patio the first night and happened to catch a spectacular Arizona sunset! The area surrounding the ranch is gorgeous also......there were a couple of the wineries in the area open so we did the sampling tour as well. You really can't go wrong staying here.....the host Karen is very friendly and will do anything to make your stay the best! read more

We drove here thinking it was a winery and when we arrived we were cordially greeted by the hosts (who by the way are incredibly nice people with a spunky sense of humor). Though we didn't stay here they were nice enough to offer us useful information about the area. Their bed and breakfast sounds wonderful though! They even have room for a horse to stay too! I rate this 5 stars for all their kindness and how welcoming they were and we look forward to actually staying here sometime in the future. read more

Xanadu Ranch is gorgeous - lush green countryside and spectacular 360 views of the sky island mountain ranges! Quiet and peaceful property, great hosts and clean/comfy rooms. The Ranch is right smack in the middle of wine country - lots of great local wineries, breweries and restaurants. Patagonia lake to the west, scenic historic highway 83 to the east. Karen definately lives up to her name. I dont leave bad reviews but the way she treated my family and I was really surprising. If you have kids I dont reccomend coming to xanadu as Karen will probably lose her mind and blow up on you like she did on us. The booking website was a bit clunky (like windows 97) and allowed my friend and I to double book a room but she said that it wasnt possible even when we showed her the email notification saying that there had been an error on the website. Anyways long story short karen was livid that my friend had two kids with them and that they were checking in at 5:50pm because she only works til 6pm. She said that she couldnt convert the pull out bed into a bed (we literally just pulled it out) until the next day and that we couldnt do it because we would break it. She also belittled my friends wife for making a wrong turn to the ranch and thus causing her to work til 5:50. She literally said "how could somebody miss an exit, thats impossible". She then scolded my kids for leaning up against a tree and touching one of her rakes she had laying outside. Anyways I could go on but it was awful. The property was awesome but karen was karen. read more

I stayed with my two large pups for 2 nights. Basic clean accommodation that is perfect for people with pets. Very good value right in town that is quiet and is good for stargazing. Nice proprietor (Karen) and this met my needs very well. There are a variety of places to stay on the property and I stayed in one of the two bunkhouse rooms - very convenient for those middle of the night pit stops for the pups. Our stay was absolutely delightful! Karen was a pleasure and the bunk house room we stayed in was more that plentiful!! I called to book my reservation and asked if it was a B&B... Karen was a hoot... She said "heck no! ... Our place is a guest ranch... no old and smelly.." hahah ... The place was super clean, had a kitchenette, fridge had the staples and not smelly and all! We really enjoyed our stay at the Xanadu Ranch. From the moment we arrived, until 5 days later when we departed, Karen made us feel so welcome and comfortable. I really felt like I was visiting family. The ranch was beautiful and scenic, and our room was really comfy, warm enough ( we were here right in the middle of winter), and the kitchen was well equipped. The porch on the bunkhouse where we stayed was lovely, and a great spot to soak up the afternoon sun. Such a nice get away from the hustle and bustle..... thank you Karen and Bernie!!!! This is a FANTASTIC place to stay! We stayed while attending a family wedding and had a wonderful time staying here. Karen went out of her way to treat us like family and the rooms were wonderfully comfortable. They were stocked with everything you might need to cook if that is a need you have. I had been backpacking in the nearby Santa Ritas for 3 days and needed a break from the harsh summer heat. I was given a clean, cool and quiet room to rest by the super friendly owner. Although I didn't use the communal area, I noticed that it was a peaceful place with a lot of character. Came to Sonoita to show my horse at the local aqha show. The Sonoita Inn was full so this was the only thing close that had availability. I should've known this was a bad sign from the beginning. I first called to ask if each room had a private bathroom or if they shared. This was a valid question as I was looking to book rooms 2 and 3. I had talked to the gentleman owner at first to ask him this and he laughed at me. On the website you can't tell if it does. I'm used to staying at nice hotels so this was all new to me. I then called back to book as I had no other place around the fairgrounds to stay. So I call back and the woman owner asks me is this the girl who called and asked if the rooms had bathrooms? I said well yes. She literally laughed at me the entire phone conversation. So anyways, I went ahead and booked the two rooms. I let her know it would be 2 in each room. Well I got several emails prior to our dash asking what time we would arrive. I replied around 3-4pm. I mean you can't really give an exact time. We were hauling horses and coming from 3 hours away and then had to stop at the fairgrounds to get our horses all settled in. Well I then get a phone call from the owner asking me what time we would arrive. So I told her we will come within 15-20 min. So we get there and then let her know who we were and then checked in. Our suitcases were in the back of the truck and had gotten some hay leaves on the front and she is all make sure you wipe that all off because I just Cleaned all of the tile in the rooms. We were already doing that. She just had to add her two cents in and then told us to leave our suitcases sitting outside and to come in and check in. She asked me again in there how many people would be in each room. And I said 2 in one and 3 in the other. I found out prior to us leaving that one more would be with us, a 10 year old son of my friend. Well she had to repeat it about 4 times and then She proceeds to charge me another $10 but doesn't tell me just bitches that there was one more person and that I didn't tell her. But whatever. I paid her cash and she took us to our rooms. I didn't even get a receipt. I paid $234 for 2 rooms for one night. So we go to the rooms and they are dated and she shows us around. It is insane how many signs are on everything and everywhere. I mean it pretty much tells you how to do everything. Well we chill out for a bit, freshen up a bit then go back to the fairgrounds. Went to dinner and then came back. Found out the hard way that you have no control of the AC. It's central air and they control it. They had it at 86 degrees. We barely got any sleep in either room because it was so hot, even with the fan on. Then around 5 am I feel something crawling on me, it was a huge spider. I jump up and squash it. Then I'm wide awake and look around. I found 6 spiders. 4 are daddy long legs. Gross!!! All in all it was a horrible experience starting from the laughing at me to charging me more and the heat and then the spiders. I'll stick to the nice hotels! read more

This is a very nice place to stay in the Sonoita area. My family has stayed here a couple times. The owners are friendly. The views are beautiful. They have a nice fish pond at the patio too. We love to sit outside on the chair and table area or in the hammock. The rooms have everything you need, although I would not describe them as luxurious. Also, the breakfast is more like breakfast bars. But the views are so nice, who cares about breakfast? Also, Sonoita is a cute town with plenty of restaurants. It is well worth staying here. read more

Let me just start by saying that pictures don't do this place justice as to how incredibly beautiful this Ranch is! My girlfriend and I were excited to stay here after reading all of the wonderful reviews so I went ahead and called to make a reservation. I spoke wi Karen who immediately sounded like one of the sweetest and most generous people you'll ever meet. They had one room left and since it was only days before our trip I instantly booked it. As we arrived we were instantly greeted by Both Karen and Bernie and they had told us that they had a last minute cancellation for the Casita and offered to upgrade us at no additional cost. Now Although every room they have is really cool the Casita was absolutely AMAZING! It had everything you need and more along wi awesome views of the prairie as well as the most comfy cozy setting anyone could ask for. Karen was very helpful with recommendations for the local wineries and restaurants which we took full advantage of and found that she was spot on wi everything. We chose to eat breakfast at a local diner rather than eat at the ranch which is something they offer which was also really cool. My girl friend and I had the absolute BEST stay at Xanadu Ranch and we can't wait to come back soon and tell all of our friends about it as well. read more
