What a gem! We've driven by for years but finally decided to stop after reading some of the great reviews. The decor is dated...and BEAUTIFUL! I love it that they've left it as is, the vibe this place has can't be found in the newer restaurant trendy builds. Lots of wood and character, a step back into the "old days". The owners and their son are some of the most friendly, down to earth folks you'll ever meet. For an appetizer we ordered the stuffed peppers. We loved it, a little different than the Americanized version, but oh so good. My husband ordered the pepper steak and he loved it. It wasn't slathered in a syrupy sauce, it was in it's own beefy juices, gravy, tender and flavorful. I had the szechuan chicken and I requested it on the mild side. It was so good, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, the chicken breast was nice and chunky and the sauce was natural, not swimming in some bottled stuff. The carrot cake was divine. I mean DIVINE! It was sweet, moist, flavorful, just good. Our cocktails were well made, not watered down as is so common nowadays. we don't mind paying for a drink when it's made correctly. The evening was more than a good meal, it was an experience, which is what brings me the most pleasure. Good food, good people, friendly clientle, great decor, relaxed atmosphere. This place is such a hidden gem! Comfy, cozy and the food is absolutely home made delicious. It feels like you are in your grandma's kitchen, if your grandma cooked spectacular Chinese food. The service is friendly and warm and answered all my questions about what ingredients are used. I tried the shrimp and vegetables, the Crab Rangoon and the Singapore noodles (made vegetarian by request). The chef came out and talked to us about making anything we needed to be vegetarian and the whole vibe is super cute. Be aware, this is home cooking and worth the wait. Absolutely blown away this Thanksgiving and so glad we decided to spend it at The Meadows. First, we're welcomed by the whole family when we arrived on Thanksgiving evening by a full spread of absolutely delicious traditional options (roasted turkey, sweet ham, chestnut stuffing, mac&cheese, collard greens, silky mashed potatoes, gravy & cranberry relish) as well as an outstanding chocolate bourbon pecan cream cheese pie for dessert with the biggest mug of coffee. Second, the hospitality from the whole family was so warm; besides feeding us they shared stories, ideas, news and a fascinating history of their journey at The Meadows. I am happy to hear they are gaining more of a following of regulars and hope the town discovers this gem and starts their own traditions there - I know we will! read more

I knew from the first dip of the crab Rangoon into the sweet and sour sauce that this is NOT your strip mall Chinese restaurant! This is made from scratch daily Chinese and American dishes - including prime steak! I had the Kung Pao and my wife had the Shrimp and Vegetables (broth, not some sauce from a plastic bottle). Unlike anything I've ever had!! Even had a house made spicy sauce that was amazing! The place is in a weird location surrounded by commercial businesses, but the building is super cute and like something out of a movie on the inside. Also like out of a movie, the cook - Amy and her main dishwasher, her husband at another time and greeted every table. It was super sweet and I want to be their friends!! A friend of mine was retiring so I decided to have a party for him and it was about 20 people. I had it at the Meadows and I actually rented the whole restaurant. I told Amy who is the chef and owner of the restaurant with her husband and son. She made a buffet for us that was just out of sight. Everybody couldn't believe how great the food was and they went way beyond what they needed to. All the food was top notch. I had not one complaint about anything. So if you're thinking about having a party for a lot of people, this is the place to do it. When we sat down to go over what kind of food for the buffet I said surprise me. The steak was amazing. I had the NY Strip - every piece was edible and delicately flavored. SO had the filet and loved every bite. Service was sub-optimal. Everyone is hurting here, but clearly they need to re-prioritize service. One hiccup was the wine. Selected the SAV Blanc FR and got ARG - different price point and they worked it out to my satisfaction Great ambience, this is a older restaurant that has been well maintained. No bad ether here! Really good experience and really nice food here. Honestly, I've eaten that some of the best Chinese restaurants in North America. The food here is fantastic. They don't try to do everything like a lot of Chinese restaurants. But they focus on a handful of dishes and do them very well. We were searching for a place to eat dinner while here in Monroe for a family reunion. We saw that The Meadows had a good review score and we couldn't have been more satisfied with the choice. We were a bit skeptical when we pulled into the parking lot but gave it a try anyway. The inside was immaculate, serving was topnotch and the food was one of the best I have eaten. It's also a family run business and they made you feel like you were a part of thier family. We will definitely be back, might actually be worth a 6 hour drive just to eat here. read more

As of Oct 2019 the classic "Meadows" is under new management. The food is now both Asian inspired and American. They are open for lunch, which is needed in this area! I had an excellent chat with the owner, and was served a scrumptious skirt steak combo, with the best eggroll I have ever eaten (pictures attached). Everything is made from scratch including the apricot sauce for the eggroll, and hot mustard. The owners have a passion and they are moving forward with it, so throw some support their way! Food was delicious, service spot on, they actually have an America menu and the Asian menu. Wife had Szechuan chicken, just enough spice and I the green pepper steak. We both had an egg roll and were the best we've had. Definitely worth a visit, we will go back for sure. Amy Woo and her talented crew create fresh and savory meals each week. So when I asked for a creative twist on an old favorite--combination fried rice, Amy whipped up the best I have ever tasted. Now we call it: "Amy's combination fried rice." The rice is tasty, the meats are savory, and the vegetables are fresh and plentiful. You must try it. As always, the egg rolls were perfect. This is a unique place with amazing food you won't find anywhere else. Exceptional home style American dishes like the gumbo and Chinese food like the Crab Rangoon go far beyond my expectations. You will recognize these dishes from other restaurants, but this place takes them to a whole different level. The gumbo is the best this side of the French Quarter. The Crab Rangoon is way beyond what we've found at Chinese restaurants across Ohio and around the country. My wife is a real Crab Rangoon snob and she gives it 5 stars. The atmosphere is also not what you expect in a gritty steel town like Middletown Ohio. This place is a Tudor style tavern that looks more like a village pub in England, and it has a well stocked bar to complete the experience. If that isn't enough to make a restaurant stand out, the desert menu definitely is. We've sampled carrot cake across North America, and this place has the best! The pies are also powerful experiences for the pallet, and they have a great selection of teas to compliment the finish. I only regret that they are closed on Sunday, so I must wait a few days to try the Ribeye. read more

What a wonderful dining experience! This historic Middletown eatery is open for dinner again with a limited schedule. Finding staff to work is a challenge for many small businesses. We were greeted in a warm and welcoming manner. The restaurant area is very clean and well kept. The bar selection is phenomenal with reasonable drink prices. The wine list covers varietals for every palate. The menu is a unique combination of the American favorites (steaks, chicken, fish options) as well as Asian dishes that look delicious. I have lived in this town all my life and I'm just now getting to this restaurant. The menu is small but varied. Our group had a huge pork chop, a NY strip, a burger, chicken and French onion soup. The portions were large and the food was seasoned well. The burger was juicy with a great seasoning crust. The staff was attentive and friendly. I had a beer Corona w/lime and my husband had 2glasses of blend red wine. Dinner was delicious. The Asian/American food is great for a family where not everyone likes Asian food. Ricky the owner was a great server and host. All food is made to order by his wife Anna so be prepared to wait while she makes it special for you! Her food is so worth the wait. Desserts are awesome! This was a most excellent spot. Everything we had was done to perfection & we lived the atmosphere & the back story. We started with an order if the Portabella mushroom, which we shared. We both ordered the Pan Seared Wall-Eye, that came with farm fresh/ local asparagus with mashed potatoes. Fir desert, my friend had the Creme Brulee, which she said was excellent. Middletown's hidden gem. This is easily the best steakhouse around that doesn't break the bank! Chef Ken has decades of experience and it shows in the quality of his meals. I personally have been eating his food for 20 years and I have never been disappointed. I typically order the Filet Mignon, medium rare. The steaks are hand picked from the market everyday, never frozen. It comes with mushrooms that are cooked to perfection with incredible flavor, buttery mashed potatoes, and beautiful asparagus. All of their sauces and salad dressings are made from scratch. My favorites are the house blue cheese for my salad and Béarnaise sauce for my steak (this one is not on their menu but by special request). For dessert I got the créme brûlée which is perfectly torched topped with berries and mint leaves. I also ordered a delicious chocolate martini from Emily the bartender who has worked with Ken for 20+ years and she makes amazing drinks! The waitress is always a delight as well! She is always smiling, extremely professional, and doesn't miss a thing! Lastly, the atmosphere is incredible! The building used to be a speakeasy hideout during the prohibition which gives it an adventurous feel while maintaining a romantic ambiance for those out for date night. I cannot say enough good things about The Meadows! I eat here at least once a week and always look forward to my next visit. You will never be disappointed! read more

Atmosphere: ok, old, dark. Food: some good, some ok Service: very very very slow but the server was friendly and polite. This place was just ok. I would definitely give it a try but avoid busy hours. They cannot handle it. We got there when it was pretty busy. The service was very slow in the beginning. We sat there with water for about ten minutes and finally asked, "Can we look at the menu?" The lady actually refused to show us the menu and her tone of voice was rude and flustered. I think her reason was that a lot of people came in at the same time and she cannot let everybody order at the same time because the kitchen cannot handle it. It was almost funny how odd it was. Nobody brought us the menu until we asked again 10 more min later. We had been in the restaurant for more than 15 min. We were finally allowed to look at the menu. We all had small salads, soup and bread before the main, but we were not served the entrée for a long time. 1.5 hours after we arrived at the restaurant, our food finally came. This is not acceptable. Soups....salty, but everybody has a different preference on this. Lamb....very good Steak....very good Salad....boring Bread....good Asparagus....good Brussel sprouts...overcooked and hated the rye. The Meadows is great old school meat, potatoes, and manhattans. Some folks tried the pork chop, which was huge, juicy and cooked perfectly. The strip steaks were fantastic. Juicy, flavorful and cooked to our exact order. The mushroom soup of the day was very tasty. Service was attentive, friendly but not overbearing. The only disappointment was being too full to try the homemade old fashioned coconut cream pie. Next time!! read more
