I love this little shop. The staff are super friendly and helpful. One of my favourite things here are the potato volcanos!! It is a bacon wrapped baked potato with some cheese topping. Next on my "go to" list is the Guiness Steak pies. So easy to make and very flavourful. They also have chicken pot pies, steak and kidney pies and a few others. These people have very questionable business practices. I just read a review that accused them of misusing copyrighted material on their website. I was in there at the beginning of the month and I purchased some steaks, a haggis and some other items. I called them back to order a 5 pound haggis. They were unable to get what I wanted and when I reminded them of our previous conversations where I told them that five individual haggis's were not acceptable because I needed a single haggis as a part of a Funeral ceremony they simply pulled up my past sale data and used the credit card information to process an unauthorized transaction?? Who does that? My family is trying to get ready for my Mother's Funeral this Saturday. I have no haggis, and a charge on my card. So on top of all of the arrangements that I've been dealing with this week I had to reach out to MasterCard and cancel my card for fear of further unauthorized transactions. Stealing people's copyrighted material is completely disrespectful, however putting through unauthorized charges while a family is trying to get ready for a funeral is despicable. As a consumer please keep in mind If a merchant tries to push a charge through just because they have your card on file from the past, but there was no new agreement or order, it's not valid, and you're absolutely within your rights to dispute the charge and demand a reversal. My advice...pay cash if you are shopping at The Meat Merchant but honestly the steaks at Costco are better and cheaper, and if you need haggis go to McComish's Wee British Shoppe in Orillia. The owner is an absolutely lovely chap and his steak and kidney pie is absolutely the best that I have had this side of the pond. read more

Absolutely fantastic! Not only do they have amazing steaks (as to be expected), but they have a variety of other things that that keeps me coming back for more! I'm a huge fan of sirloin steaks and their steaks are to die for! I don't think I'm ever going to buy my steaks anywhere else. They also have a few frozen items and I had to try their sirloin steak pies. They're meaty, rich, and flakey! I'm going to have to try the chicken pies and turkey pies next! The few times I've been they've also been really friendly and happy to help. They have turned me into a frequent customer. read more

Great selection of fresh meat. We love getting steak here as they are truly excellent. I really like the fact they are a true butcher shop that carries organ meat and whole chicken carcasses which is great for stew and soup making. read more

This is a gem in small town Stouffville. I've moved here for 2 years and I've been meaning to stop by the Meat Merchant and boy, am I ever glad. We were immediately greeted by a nice lady and we told her that we wanted two good pieces of steaks to try out our new sous vide. She gave us a few options and didn't up-sell the expensive cuts. In fact, she told us that two striploins would probably work out well in the case of sous vide. I really appreciated her honesty and she even told us to let her know how it goes the next time we come. In terms of price, everything was priced very fairly. Our two striploins came to around $27.00 and they were pretty big pieces. Definitely much less expensive than eating out! We will definitely be back to this great place!! read more

So disappointed that I even have to write this poor review. If you're just looking for good quality meat, this place does offer good value. No question about it. A few years ago when I lived in Markham, this was my go-to butcher. For years, I went every other weekend, happy to spend my money at a great local establishment. After moving away but always keeping this place in my heart, yesterday I went back and purchased orders for myself, 2 other friends and even brought my mother. This is clearly a place I want to support, but I have never ever felt so infuriated than I did yesterday after being treated like an annoyance by one of their younger team members. This is not a reflection of their whole team, our cashier was lovely, but I don't recommend anyone PAY money to feel diminished by this type of "customer service". I spoke with one of her team mates onsite because I was legit confused... this was not the typical service I remembered. After her obscenely rude behaviour continued, I spoke to her privately giving her the stern feedback directly. Her response? No apology. Just a blank stare and "Ok". Whatever. When I got back home and saw how one of my vacuum sealed roasts was packaged though, it was the end for me. The team offered to re-vacuum it but I wasn't making the hour round trip again. As a customer, I understand when an establishment or person makes an error or has a bad day or something happens. We're all human. But value your customers enough to AT LEAST apologize when something isn't up to cuff. Meat merchant: value your customers more. Please, raise your standards. You've just lost a customer. read more

I really don't like that they use margarine to make all of the dishes they sell, it is totally unhealthy. Also I find there is one person, that I have dealt with in the past who is really rude and that is why I don't shop there anymore. She needs to get some customer service skills and stop being so argumentative, and acting like she knows everything, which, of course, she doesn't. read more

Being such a foodie and recently moving to Stouffville, I had to find a local butcher that can meat all our BBQ needs. Har har. Clean, welcoming butcher on Main St, we were greeted instantly entering the store. With two large fridges full of gorgeous looking meats, I wanted to try everything. Most if not all of their fresh meat products are free range and/or grass-fed/grain-fed. We decided to pick up a thick cut (1 inch) AAA NY Striploin that's been aged for 28 days. We popped it on the grill 4-5 minutes per side, slightly seasoned with salt & pepper, it was a perfect Medium Rare. Melt in your mouth goodness. With such a lean cut compared to Prime Rib/TBone, it was tender and full of flavour--no chewiness at all. Grass fed beef makes such a big difference! On special, we also picked up a few Free Range Chicken Leg Quarters. Looking at the raw skin and comparing it to grocery store bought chicken, you can already see a difference--thicker yellowy skin and darker pink meat. Taste, a lot "meatier" than usual chicken, with great texture. You can also order special products like Turkeys/Bison/Buffalo, etc. during certain time of the year. Great first visit to The Meat Merchant and I know I'll be calling them my local butcher from now on. read more

Found this Butcher through yelp. I ordered a Crown Pork Roast and Turkey Breast roast this past Christmas. The staff was super helpful in helping me figure out how much food I was going to need. My husband then bought their fresh ground beef and made the best homemade burgers I've ever had and hubby is a cooking novice. Their In House sausage is fantastic, I recommend the Apple. They only get 4 stars from me because I haven't had the opportunity to purchase too much from them. There is so much more to explore! read more

Fantastic ! We ordered fresh Turkey for Thanksgiving and Prime Rib for Christmas. The best we have ever had. Well worth it. Ham for Easter is next up. They have a great selection of sausages, and they will prepare any cut of meat for you if you call in advance. The employees are very friendly and helpful. I travel out of my way now and will only purchase my meat from them. I know it's local, humanely treated, and hormone free. Love these guys read more

I have had stomach problems all my life and have found that eating meat makes it upset. Not from here! This is the first time we purchased our spiral honey glazed ham for the Xmas dinner from the Meat Merchant -- I cannot say enough good things about the quality and the flavour of our ham. It required minimum preparation and the flavour was wonderful. Our only regret was that we did not purchase one large enough to have left overs for week following the holidays. We also purchase a frozen apple pie which was, as far as frozen pies go, the best I have had yet -- packed with apples and really nice pastry. I would highly recommend the Meat Merchant.
