If I were only reviewing the quality of food, this place would easily, easily get 5 stars. I ordered the vegetarian platter, and it was exceptionally good. The dolmas were among the very best I've had in this country or abroad, the hummus was fantastic, the tabouli was immensely better than anything I've had lately, and the baba ganoush was delectable. I was not as impressed with the falafel, but to say that it wasn't good would be incorrect. The others were just that great. The reason I am not rating this place five starts is due to the service and food presentation. The man who assisted a friend and I was very kind, but he was left alone to handle our order while four other employees slowly went about other tasks that seemed to be related to packaging food for retail. There were no other customers in the store. As a result, it took a considerably longer time than one might expect. Additionally, I find it very bothersome that everything is packaged and placed in disposable containers. I understand that most of it is recycled, but single use should still be unacceptable at a restaurant. I couldn't understand why all of my sides were placed in little cups with snap on lids that were then placed on a plate when we could have just as easily foregone the containers and just placed everything on the plate. Finally, the vegetarian platter, in all of its goodness, will unfortunately leave you wanting more if you're quite hungry. They provide two falafel pieces, a dolma, about as much tabouli, hummus, and baba ganoush that you could fit in a cupped hand. At least throw in a third falafel or dolma please! read more

Wow! What an amazing place. The food is delicious. I had the chicken gyro and was blown away. I loved the flavor and really loved the hummus. The food was very fresh. The jalapeños were a nice touch. The staff was super friendly! They looked like they enjoyed their work. The place was super clean, which is super important to me! I had the lamb gyro which was delicious, however I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 due to the fact that it was extremely big and messy. I also think there were far too many tomatoes included. Finally, there was very little seating so expect to share your table with a stranger! That personally didn't bother me, just mostly the portion size was too much in my opinion. It would have been easier to eat if it was a bit smaller. But it was very flavorful and the staff where kind and attentive. I will be back again read more

My friend liked his Nikki special, but I was somewhat disappointed by my falafel wrap. The falafel balls were mushy. Everything around them was great - solid hummus, crisp veggies, etc. But I was super put off by the mushy falafel. I also wish the interior had better lighting. It feels a little odd to squint into a dark corner and find 16 buckets of tahini stacked 4 across. I actually think having all of their bulk items on display under good lighting would look very cool, and the place would feel more welcoming. The staff was very friendly. read more

I'm sitting here halfway through a gyro rite now. This thing is the BOMB. Not your run of the mill gyro at all. Fresh veggies and the meat is all tossed together with awesome cooked onions and olives, my favorite part. I ordered mine "spicy" and it's just rite. We mentioned it was our first time and it turns out they pass out a package of free humus to all newbies, score! Would easily be five star if the dinning area wasn't overwhelmed with all the production of preparations going on in the kitchen, kinda like eating in a supply closet. This place is awesome! After discovering Grandma's Hummus some few years back, it completely set the standard for how good hummus should be. Welp Yelp, I finally discovered the place that makes it! And their food is just as good as their hummus. I think it must be the quality of the ingredients, as I've had a lot of Mediterranean food, but it's never satisfied quite like this place. If you haven't gone here, you need to get here fast. The Nikki Special is really special! You should get it and when you do, get it spicy (medium is just the right amount of heat for me, mild seems to suit my less adventurous companions). read more

Yelp lead me here after dealing with the crowds renewing my drivers license. You certainly have to know this place is here. Just north of 2222 in an old building cuddled in a residential neighborhood. The kitchen is bigger than the seating area giving more of a feel that you are eating in a working kitchen. You can't help but get the feeling of clutter with shelving of supplies competing with walkways and elbow space. I wanted to reconfigure everything before I left. The lamb gyro was superb, well balance between bread, meat, sauce, and accoutrements. And it is a lot of food. The folks at the table next loved their gyro (spicy version) and salad. The meat pie takes 15 minutes and consists of a meat/onion mixture wrapped in filo bread. Wanted to like it more than I did. But don't take this as a criticism. I kept hearing about this place so finally checked it out for lunch with some co-workers. We might have arrived at a weird time, but our first impression was a little bit of confusion as to where you order versus pay, when you pay, etc. Food portions were huge. I got the special, which was basically a gyro salad, and it was extremely flavorful upon the first few bites. After a while the amount of spice on the chicken became a little strong and I started wishing for something a little more subdued. It wasn't that it was spicy/hot, but just too much seasoning/salt that stuck with me for a long time. I'm definitely going back, but might mix it up next time. The place that makes the best hummus ever (Grandma's) also makes the best gyros in town. What makes them so special is the addition of jalapenos, the olive tapenade (instead of using sliced kalamatas), and the really delicious tzatziki sauce. I also love that they use a whole wheat pita, and the entire thing is just massive. My husband ordered his with Greek dressing instead of the tzatziki and loved it... he usually isn't a fan of gyros. The cafe is clean, but ambiance is definitely not on the priority list. It's small, with only a few tables, but that wasn't a problem for dinner. The mister and I stopped in for a late lunch and ordered a lamb and beef gyro (extra spicy at the mister's request) and a fresh fried felafel wrap with a beet salad side. The food was up in a little under ten minutes and every bite was delicious. The gyro meat was sliced super thin and the extra spicy was just this side of too spicy for the mister but not for me. The organic beet salad was nice and refreshing and cooled the palate beautifully. It tasted like steamed beets dressed in tatziki. The wonderful just fried felafel were crunchy and light. The hummus they were dressed with was tangy and delicious, too. I can't wait to go back and try their spinach pie and babaganus. We didn't realize that it's BYOB so we'll be sure to bring a couple beers along next time. read more

Met a friend for lunch today at the Mediterranean Chef. We both had the beef and lamb Gyro with grilled jalapeños on the side. The pita bread was about the size of a burrito and so delicious. My friend ordered falafel's to go to take home to his wife and had I not been so full I would have eaten several of them. Several people in the restaurant ordered the Nikki special and I agree with previous reviewer's that it is huge. The staff was very friendly. This was a great find. I discovered The Mediterranean Chef at the Cedar Park Farmer's Market this weekend, purchasing Hummus, Dolmas, and Falafel. The Hummus was some of the best I have ever tasted. I liked it better than my own. The dolmas were the best I have ever had. The falafel was good as well. It has fennel seeds in it which I am not a fan of, but that is a personal preference. I still ate them and they made for the perfect Saturday afternoon lunch. I wish they had a store front. I would be there all the time! read more

So good. Went there for lunch today and almost licked my plate clean. We had the lamb and beef gyros. So good. Meat was moist (albeit a bit greasy) and so tasty! We also had a Greek salad that was very fresh and flavorful. Did not expect such a tasty salad! The servers even gave us Turkish coffee on the house. :-) Servers were friendly and food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time. All around excellent service. Please keep in mind that this place is more of a greek/mediterranean food factory and also happens to be a restaurant. That is, if you are looking for a restaurant atmosphere, this might not be the place to go to. If you are looking for delicious mediterranean food, this is the spot! The gyros are excellent. They slice the near thin and the pita wrap is thin as well. These are not your typical because they have fresh quality ingredients which you taste right away.
