I hired Peter for my EB1 EA, and he convinced me about concurrent filing for EB1, EB2 NIW, claiming that it would help my EB1 case. During the first consultation conversation, after primary analysis, his paralegal woman and later Peter assessed that my case was fresh and had a 100 percent chance of approval. I am a Ph.D. holder from one of the two highly populated countries trapped in the long-immigration waits, and very because of this, I am a potential victim of immigration attorneys who are prepared to tap people like me. I have mentioned that my publications and citations are not that great. He convinced me that citations are not a significant factor in the EB1 process, as you can see on his website. However, I am a Ph.D. holder, winner of prestigious national fellowships, and presented papers at international conferences in my area, with financial assistance and aid for my travel and registration fees. I could gather recommendations from prestigious universities on the east coast of the US and people who served as Vice-chancellors in the Universities of southeast Asia. I have a track record of teaching in the areas of my study in top institutions in my country. Even though I pointed out that 4 out of 5 leading EB1 attorneys in the US have advised me to try for an O-green card and not apply for EB1, Peter reassured me that my case would be approved. Of course, I was new and was unaware of the dangers of not getting assurances on paper. I hired him initially, paying an advance and the entire process cost me around 12000 dollars, including EB1 attorney fee, EB2 NIW attorney fee, I-485 attorney filing fee for three of us, stationery and printing, RFE for both cases. Both my cases and all my corresponding i-485s got rejected after around two years. Peter convinced me that he could re-file the case two months after rejection without adding or changing my credentials. I waited for weeks, months, and years after the rejection for him to contact me and initiate the process to re-file my case. Every time I called, his paralegal repeated the same sentences to get more credentials. This is the seventh year after I signed a contract with him. Despite the money loss and endless regret, nothing happened. My EB2 NIW (I-140 and I-485) and EB1 EA ((I-140 and I-485) got rejected, and I lost every penny I spent on them. His strategy of marketing and convincing people works in three layers. 1. Very subtle and favorable phone conversations 2. Strong web presence and search engine optimizations come top to the Google searches for immigration attorneys, which misdirect people without an eye for details to trust him. 3. Attorney-client agreements are filled with many unseen areas for a person unaware of how the US immigration and legal system works. 4. copies of i-140 approvals, blacking out any names or other details, seriously misleads people, believing that all they are real and based on actual approvals. (They may or may not be accurate, but for me, they were misleading). Also, he claims he has 91% of petition approvals for EB1 and 95% approvals in EB2 - NIW. However, he never clarifies about every year, how many petitions are filed by him, or how many got approved every year. In my opinion and experience, this is another misleading trick. He promised me that he would re-file my case for free and would win it. I approached him to re-file my case when I got a job that had significant financial gains. Despite multiple e-mails and regular communications, he did not look at my case again and asked me to get him articles about me published on platforms like the New York Times. Seven years passed, and nothing happened. Overall, his process seriously lacks transparency, effectiveness, and commitment. This is my analysis based on my experience. Don't ever hire him, and you will lose money and valuable time that you can work on your education and career. read more

I had a very good experience working with Mr. Messersmith and his law firm. He handled an immigration case for my wife and me. I met him personally at his office couple of times in Chicago before I sign the contract. The great thing with Peter is that he responds to your email quick with a short and of course effective answers. A Nigerian Professor that doubled as my mentor during graduate school recommended Mr. Messersmith, Esq for my NIW/EB1 application. A the time, I was not sure how to proceed, until I wrote to the Messersmith Law Firm and inquired about the process. It did not take long before the paralegal of the firm, Mrs. Jen Ren, replied to my email, including inviting me to send my resume for review. Upon looking at my previous experiences and qualifications, Mr. Messersmith determined that I qualified for NIW/EB1. He chose to represent me on what I thought was a relatively cheaper legal fee. In fact, we came up with a payment plan that including monthly installments (super convenient for a student like me back then). Soon, he would send me a list of materials I should gather, and how to package the same in order to make a convincing case. Over 1 year, we worked together and submitted both my I-140 and I-485 together in July 2017. One year later, my green card was approved, despite the much anti-immigration political rhetoric in the country. What I liked about the Messersmith Law Firm was their responsiveness. They were quick to respond to emails, to send you notifications, to inform you on present immigration law changes, and importantly in answering phone calls and appointments. Mr. Messersmith was also great at working with what you have, even if you may lack key documents needed to apply. I engaged Peter Messersmith to apply for my greencard and EAD. I do not recommend him. Here's why: I am a postdoc research associate and I applied for my greencard through the NIW EB2 category. Peter files both I-140 and I-485 concurrently without telling you the pros and cons. I found out through my own research that it is not recommended for you to file the I-485 if you will be changing status or jobs. USCIS will likely request for further evidence (RFE) if you change jobs. And Peter automatically charges an additional $500 when there is an RFE. Easy money for him. He didn't even tell me that I could track my application progress online using the Receipt Number, I found out much later by doing my own research. Read the attorney-client agreement carefully. Don't get fooled by his price. He initially sounds cheaper as he quotes $5000, but that does not include the USCIS fee of $1650 (for both I-140 and I-485), and office expenses fee of $250. It ended up being more expensive than other lawyers. You have to prepare all the documents yourself. Peter does not help you at all. He sends you some examples but they don't really help. For instance, I had to write my own recommendation letters and have other experts in the field sign them. Peter sent me some sample recommendation letters but they were for journalist or industry consultants, completely unrelated to science and they didn't help. There are other attorneys out there that actually write the letters of recommendation for you. All you have to do is proof read and they will contact your referees for you. Peter never had the courtesy to call me even after I paid him. If you call, you always speak to the paralegal. And she always tells you that he is busy and to call back if you want to speak to Peter. I didn't speak to Peter at all throughout the process, until the last day when I demanded that he call me. We only communicated through email. He replies emails very quickly when it is for you to pay him, otherwise it typically takes 24-48 hours for him to reply. Often it is that he'll just skim through your questions and responds vaguely. Doesn't address the specific points that you are asking. Though seldom, there were times when he didn't reply to my follow up questions. I had to switch status twice while my greencard application as pending. The first was switching from an F1 to a H1 visa and this caused an RFE (this is my own speculation, there's no way of knowing why USCIS ask for RFE). After submitting the material for RFE, USCIS sends you a notice saying that you will hear back from them in 60 days. During that 60 day period I got another job offer and Peter advised me to apply for the expedited EAD which he says will take ~2 weeks and cost $1000, instead of applying for a new H1 visa which takes 3-4 months. I thought I could be employed earlier and the $1000 would have been worth it. I paid the $1000, put in my 2 weeks notice, and accepted the new job offer. But 4 weeks after I had submitted the EAD paper work to Peter (3 weeks after receiving a receipt from USCIS), there was still no news, and I was unemployed. I started to question Peter and he says the symbol "~" means approximate and he has no control over when USCIS adjudicates cases. He then tells me that he requested USCIS to either expedite my EAD or my greencard, and USCIS has approved my greencard a week ago but he just found out about it. I do not know whether my greencard was approved because of Peter's expedited request when submitting the EAD, but I wasted $1000 on an EAD and I lost a month salary. The 60 day RFE period was less than a month away anyway, and I could have just waited for the greencard application to be approved in due time. Maybe his advice to apply for an EAD was financially motivated, guess I will never know. I could have just hung on to my previous job until my I485 was approved, but his lack of clarity in words and non-transparent way of working caused havoc to my life. The whole process took me more than a year. I am thankful to have finally received my greencard, but it was not without a huge financial and emotional cost. I do not recommend engaging the Messersmith Law Firm and would advise others to seek other attorneys that provide better customer service. read more

Peter was referred to me by my friend who had excellent success with his GC application. I started my green card journey in August 2012. I met Peter and presented him my case, since my employer was not giving me a permanent employment and being from India I had only choice of EB1EA. Peter saw my CV, he told me the loopholes in my CV and directed me what documentation he needs from me to make my case best presentable for USCIS. He specifically told me how the letter of recommendations from my internal and external peer supervisors should be and what key points should be emphasized in my letter of recommendations. I checked with me all my documentations, and prepared my case very well. I gave him all my documentation on 3rd JAN 2013. My application was recvied by USCIS on 10 JAN 2013. My EB1A Green Card was successfully filed and approved by this firm. Peter and his assistant Jen were helpful and accessible. Jen is a sweetheart and answers phone calls. Peter is busy but responds to emails fairly quickly. I applied for my permanent residency in the EB1A category which means I needed a lot of letters and evidence that I was indeed an "alien of extraordinary ability". Peter was very helpful in letting me know what I needed for the filing providing examples and samples to help me put my own letters together. I did do most of my own writing in putting the letters together---but I guess that is to be expected since a law firm cannot possibly put together letters with details about every specific field. I was extremely stressed during the whole process and worried about my chances because as we immigrants know, our work, home and livelihood in the US depends on our legal status in this country. Peter and Jen both reassured me and calmed me down. I think he is a good lawyer and a good man but this green card process in itself is tedious, time consuming, expensive no matter who you hire and the USCIS is unpredictable so Peter/ Jen cannot guarantee anything. It is easy to get mad at the lawyer but the real delays are caused by the process and the adjudicating system. I selected Peter as my attorney for my green card application. I have to state now that it was a just mistake, my most biggest mistake in my whole life. The attorney fee was so expensive, but the service was so bad. Here are my experience with peter law firm. At the beginning contact with him and asking for quote. He would say that he has handling these applications since 2002 and have a 100% success rate for applicants with similar credentials as mine and 98%+ overall (my friends and I got the such initial response from Peter). The attorney fee is very high $5000 (not include the USCIS fee of $1650 (for both I-140 and I-485)), and office expenses fee of $250. It ended up being more expensive than other lawyers. However, the attorney service to my case was very poor even though he received high pay. Peter sent me some sample recommendation letters, but you have to prepare all the documents yourself. I don't think those example letters were useful at all. Peter does not help you at all. He did write the cover letter for your case. Interestingly, he don't want to give you the cover letter even though you have paid for it. You only can go to his office and let you read there. I went there and read it. All I can say is that the augment and logic on the cover letters was very disappointing. When I read through what he did for me, I just don't understand how he could state that he got 100% success rate for applicants with similar credentials as mine!. It turned out my case was got a RFE. I had to pay another $500.0 for him to deal with that. Unfortunately, he could not successfully make my case successful. I could not go to his office, due to work reason, to read the cover letter he wrote for my RFE. I drove to his office later, and found Peter even wrote another person name as my name on such an important letter responding to the USCIS. I guess he may just copied and pasted on the letter..... Peter never had contacted or called me after I signed the agreement. If I call, he always asked me to speak to the paralegal who was actually good person in term of personality. If you emailed Peter, it seemed that he'll just skim through your questions and vaguely responds, he does not address the specific points that you are asking. Don't even mention any follow up. give the Messersmith Law firm a zero rating. They have ruined my life. These people don't care for their clients and for the repercussions of their negligence on the clients' lives. They are a money eating machine and are happy as long as you keep feeding them. I approached Peter for a green card application. He told me that he was confident that he could get me a green card in both the EB1 and EB2 categories. I had a paid consultation with Peter where he convinced me that getting a green card was the way to go. He gave me vague answers during this consultation as well as throughout the process. But not knowing anything about immigration law myself, I signed Peter up as an attorney for my EB1A petition. The moment he received the money from me, he sent me file with examples of recommendation letters and a document list. However, most of the recommendation letters were not pertaining to my field of work. Peter did not give me any guidance about how to write these recommendation letters and on what sort of letters would improve the chances of my petition being accepted. He didn't draft a single recommendation letter for me. Most of the time, he gave one sentence or sometimes, even one word suggestions about the recommendation letters. Once all the money was paid, he almost didn't care about my case. He would never tell me clearly what documents he needed from me. I submitted all the documents by email. But then he wanted me to print them all out and mail them to him (even though he charges $300 for mailing, copying, etc.). He told me that he would charge $300 upon completion of the case. But he immediately charged me $300. I have been to the post office several times because of Peter's miscommunication. The worst thing is that Peter blatantly refused to send me copies of the write up for my own case! He didn't even tell me which documents he was submitting to the USCIS on my behalf. Upon receiving an RFE for my case, I asked Peter for a copy of the documents that he had submitted. He still refused to give me a copy of the write up. But he reluctantly gave me a password-protected file of my own documents that he had submitted prior to receiving the RFE. After examining this, I noticed that several important documents which would point out the significance of my work (such as a book chapter, conference presentations and a letter from the editor of the journal JBC) were out of place and one letter which Peter said would harm my case and hence should not have been included was included in this document list. When I brought these issues to this notice, he didn't even have the courtesy to apologize for his mistakes. His paralegal Jen also made several mistakes on the important I-140 and I-485 forms. All she had to do was to copy paste the information that I had provided. But she didn't even do that correctly. After receiving the RFE, I wanted to discuss about the write up and documents with Peter before he submitted them. However, Peter submitted these without my knowledge and I don't know till date what he has submitted on my behalf to the USCIS and how he has presented my case. My green card was finally denied. But Peter didn't seem to care too much and continued to maintain that he had (in spite of everything that I have mentioned above) tried his best to win my case. Now, my green card is denied and I learned that an appeal may not be the best option. I am drained of money. I have ended up paying close to $7000 dollars to Peter (I self-petitioned). So I am broke and have no more money to refile. I have to leave the country and my postdoc position at a prestigious institute in two weeks time. Peter does not care about your case. He will try and talk you into signing up with him. He will try and convince you to keep paying for all of his services that are conveniently not mentioned in the contract. for example, he asked me to pay $500 for filing a work permit application with my I-485 application. FYI, it does not cost a penny to file a work permit application based on a pending I-485 application if you do it on your own. It is a 1 page document which is very easy to fill. I filled this on my own and it got approved. I don't want anyone to go through the hell that I have gone through the past one year. So, please sign up for an attorney that is reliable and that lives close to where you live. I live in DC and Peter is based in Chicago. When I asked for a copy of the cover letter, Peter told me that he would not give me a copy and asked me to come to Chicago if I wanted to look at it. Also, please make sure that you have a backup in case your application doesn't go through for some reason. I would never want anyone to be in my situation. After living in the US legally as a responsible citizen for over 12 years, being a Summa cum Laude undergraduate and graduate student and getting a PhD, I have been given 2 weeks to pack and leave this country. read more

I don't understand why people are giving him one star, when he deserves a five star. Peter did everything in my case to get me my Greencard.
