I've only been living in Los Angeles for about two years at this point and sadly I've only made three trips to The Midnight Hour Records. My first trip was about a year and a half ago when some friends were in town and we went record shopping. I'm not as big into buying records as I once was but I was immediately blown away but not only the selection of records, but the huge selection of VHS tapes, CDs, random odds and ends, and shirts as well. The store itself is pretty dang huge and once of the first things you see when you walk in is the stage against one of the walls. How many shows did I go too? well, only one because I live in DLTA so most shows happen where I live, so I rarely wanted to drive 45 mins to San Fernando. My second trip was for a night market around the holidays with my wife, and my third trip was last week for the Final 818 Day show. I arrived a little late to the show and walked in during Human Garbage and the night was truly magical from that point on. With a lineup that consisted of Internal Affairs, Piece by Piece, Carry On, Twitching Tongues, and God's Hate, I can safely say this was probably one of the best shows I've ever been too and something I'll remember for years to come. The atmosphere at this shop is positive, violent, and full of heart in the best way. The sound at this shop was dope (minus the frequent mic issues) and each set was perfect. I've been actively going to shows since 2003 and the fact that in 2026 I was finally able to see Carry On play, is something I will absolutely never forget, let alone that I got to see them play a small show instead of Sound and Fury Fest. Overall, The Midnight Hour Records was the best thing San Fernando had to offer and it's a shame that the city didn't do everything it could to keep it there. The downtown area is absolutely dead and this place gave it a bit of life that will sorely be missed. Luckily, West Hollywood seems to be the future home for this shop and I can't wait to check it out as soon as it opens. Long live The Midnight Hour. read more

This space has had a real positive impact on me. I attended an event hosted here, and was able to connect with a nonprofit and found a volunteer opportunity that I most likely wouldn't have discovered otherwise. The store fosters connections and supports the community through various activities. I definitely want to check out one of the rock shows in the future. read more

I've been to this place a handful of times and every time there is something cool going on. On this day they had a table with free vinyl and I was able to pick up a few gems. They also had a pop-up coffee stand that was a little pricey but pretty good. All the workers are always very helpful and super nice. And the location is great. There is metered parking in front or you can park for free in the public parking in the back. read more

I love how they organize their records here. Or maybe I just really love the selection. It's sort of the perfect amount. Not so much that you are going to be overwhelmed, but unique enough that you find things you never anticipated. I really love the alternative indie stuff they had, i love that they also carried sound tracks from movies. Just a really great selection and they had a bit of everything. I left with an album from Big Frieeda, the queen diva you besta beliva. I didn't know I needed that, but hell yes. I also love that they have their own merch and sets of t-shirts that they make. Some of the shirts are also LGBT represented, which is always a plus in my book! Service was good, the guy rang us up quickly and was polite. Value of records are no different from other places, so neither good or bad. They also have another shop next door that has alternative stuff and a museum in the back. So if you are going out of the way like we were, there is still more to see! I would like to try and go back to this one at some point! read more

In the heart of San Fernando Valley is a pretty well known place, mostly amongst punk and metal fans. By day it's a nondescript record store but sometimes, before the sun goes down the volume turns up, the crowd gets physical and the bands TURN UP. If you've been here you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't and you like your music loud, you may want to change that. I was summoned here by the band Knocked Loose where I was one of the lucky 472 (that's maximum capacity) in attendance to see them at a secret show held at this most intimate venue. The venue is actually pretty decent sized and the stage is probably six inches or so off the ground. This kind of sucked because there were a ton of photographers looking to get that great shot in people's way. Sound was great and best of all, no alcohol is served. Merch is all in another room. Parking is ample, just in other lots. You just might have to cross a street or two. No biggie. Midnight Hour Records is a great place to see a show. I wish I got to see the records but they have to get the place ready for bands. Maybe next time I can support this great small business. Highly recommended! read more

I hadn't been to the SF city area in decades and we finally came out here to watch the Texas death metal band Creeping Death play live in their spacious back room. The live music event cost 27 bucks which gave you access to the back. The store itself has a lot of cool products to offer besides the vinyl and CDs. We liked the vibe and we plan on coming back for future concerts. read more

Love a good weekend crate dig, and Midnight Hour came in clutch. What a find! I spent a few hours here on a Saturday, digging through what they had to offer and STILL didn't even scratch the surface of everything they had. They have all genres of vinyl, a whole discounted price section of used records, along with CDs and a middle display of great gift ideas for any unique soul in your life. $1 single records on certain genres which was awesome Not crowded at all, even on a weekend, which gives you plenty of space to enjoy the good tunes playing over the store speakers while you look for whatever inspires you. Reasonably priced and a great local record shop to scratch that solid vintage music itch. Walked out with 3 new records and a hip hop single for $60. Overall, I am happy and proud to have a chill, not overpriced record store in our valley. Stop on in for a dig and keep the sound of vinyl alive. read more

I'm in love! Such a cool neighborhood spot. They have a great selection of records organized by category. My favorites sections to check out were the "dad jams" and "mom jams" sections! Funny and spot on. They have a bunch of r&b, soul, punk, country and movie soundtrack albums. A lot of the new or well known classic albums were around $30 bucks, but they also had a used section for albums $5 and under. Their selection of newer albums is pretty slim so if you are looking for a new release you might not find it here. There are plenty of goodies for sale like crystals, notepads, awesome pendants flags, band shirts, car air fresheners, pins, stickers, Mexican blankets, candles and much more. We bought 5 albums for $35! They also have a stage where the host show! Definitely will check that out one day! Pro tip: if you can find parking on the street, there's a free public lot around the corner! We come by here regularly to pick up records and check out the new merch. We're fans of the t-shirts, hats and baggus. It's so nice to have this local cultural option here in San Fernando. It was pretty cool when they also hosted an exhibit of local history. Also, really appreciate the owners stance of political issues and hosting donation and fundraising events. After following them on IG for years I finally got to stop into this store! Stunning. Love every custom hand made detail Sergio and his team put into this record store. The vibe and energy is so good. I love the spacious minimal, precise and thoughtful decor. Has just that fun touch of flair and edge sprinkled everywhere. It's functional and serves as both record store and venue. Has this cool vintage throw back vibe but with its own unique signature style. I also appreciate how Sergio was so gracious about receiving my feedback about my super sensitive skin. My skin cannot handle coconut oil at all it just breaks out in acne on the face or gets extremely irritated with eczema etc. There were these gorgeous bath bombs in casket and moon shapes, I was immediately drawn to them and ready to pick some up, but everything came to a halt once I read the ingredients and I was so sad the product contained coconut oil. So I brought this to Sergio's attention and kindly requested that if he has a relationship with this vendor if he could maybe ask them to make a bath bomb formula without coconut oil. His response was basically: thank you for letting me know because I want to carry things that people can purchase and enjoy. I really appreciate that support and understanding. They have really cute T's with their logo on it. Be sure to pick one up. Super reasonably priced $18 before tax. I love the cream colored T with black text, I bought a slightly looser fit so I can fold and tuck the shirt into different styles. Dog friendly. Can't wait to check out one of their shows! My little sister had been begging meee to take her here for a couple bands that were playing. Upon arrival I was not expecting it to be a whole record shop as well! Luckily the bands were setting up inside so we had time to look around and it was so cool! There were a large variety or records, cool tote bags, backpacks, merch from artists and just so much more !!! Once the bands started playing it was amazing! Great little find!! We went to this record shop this past Sunday & we found some cool albums to take home. It felt good to give back to a small business especially since hubby was a DJ back in the day!! The only bummer to this cool spot was hubby seeing a mosquito on my arm. As he tried to smack it off it left a bite while we were browsing near "Dad's Jams". Fast forward to today as I am suffering with TEN MOSQUITO BITES after being at this place!! Sergio and his family are always so welcoming and kind. They are inclusive and as natives to the valle I appreciate that they don't just focus on promoting their business, they support other small businesses within the community. My family and I appreciate that they also make it a point to share wonderful history of the valle and are strong advocates for the community. Their music selection is awesome, I love the variety from music and merch all at reasonable prices. Don't forget the rad shows they host which is so amazing to have something local supporting local musicians! Especially after the shut down of the Cobalt cafe closed its doors in 2014. Great record collection! Most of their selection is older music - which is fine, I just prefer more modern music. They did have some newer vinyls from artists like Lorde, Aminé, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Dua Lipa, etc. The place itself was a good size and quite clean (no dusty records) staff are very friendly and offer great recommendations! Absolutely will be going back here, soon. read more
