    Ice cream

Our daughter turned us onto this place. She said we had to check it out and took us by there one day on the way back from St. Louis. They had awesome flavors of homemade ice cream and all kinds of milks and cappuccinos. The ice cream was delicious!! definitely recommend a stop there to check it out!!

My wife and I were in Greenville yo watch a baseball game and the name "Milk House" enticed us to get ice cream. The place is interesting, clean, and they serve very good ice cream. While the prices seemed a bit high, it's not as expensive as some other (overpriced) ice cream shops, and the ladies serving us were extremely ice and welcoming! They also had quite a display of various kinds of milk, cream, and butter. I don't believe I've ever seen Root Beer Milk before. If you're in Greenville, IL, you might be enjoy stopping by the Milk House.

Rolling Lawns is a place that definitely flies under the radar. A lot of the smaller shops in St Louis (Yolklore and Pint Size Bakery among them) seem to use their milk, so I wasn't completely unfamiliar with them. Then, with so many shops closed in spring 2020, they were donating their milk to food banks and the like, so I eventually decided to follow them on social media and check them out. In the St Louis area, you'll see some of their products at various small local groceries and Straubs. However, looking at their web presence, I saw that I was missing out on some products, so I decided to make the hour drive to their shop. Overall, for the size of the building, it's fairly Spartan. In 2020, it was Strange Donuts and milk, and this year, they've launched their ice cream shop. Think of it as a simpler but more local Oberweis. I like the idea that you can basically point on a map for where your milk came from. In fact, you might see a video of the cow on their Instagram. The ice cream selection is basically your usual flavors, probably about 10 of them available. It is made out of their own milk, so you know it's not stuff packed 10 states away and delivered in crates. I had the cookies and cream, and the portion was generous and ice cream and the waffle cone were quite tasty. For the rest of what they have right now, I've tried the cappuccino milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, egg nog, red velvet egg nog, skim, and 2%. They're all good, but if you can swing by in the holiday season, their egg nog, particularly the red velvet, is worth the drive. If you think you don't like egg nog, try theirs. Their chocolate milk is also reliably good. The cappuccino and strawberry milk, I go back and forth on, but they're both worth trying. And of course, for their actual milk, let's just say that there's a reason the small shops use their milk. Soooo good. The long drive isn't for everyone, but if you're traveling between Indy and St Louis, this place is just a couple miles from the exit on 70.

Overall nice place. Obviously it's currently being renovated and the work they are doing makes it look clean and nice. Bathrooms are new and clean. They appear to be working on party rooms to house groups of people. They have homemade ice cream which is really creamy with traditional and unique flavors. The staff that was there were incredibly kind and knowledgeable about the process used to make the ice cream. Definitely a quick fun family stop.

It was a blend of vanilla custard, fresh strawberries and hard-shell chocolate. It looked so delicious in the clear plastic cup, all three of the ingredients were swirled together. I would have taken a picture to capture the beauty, but with the high temperatures I just started to devour my sweet treat. I was sitting on their spacious patio, so it was melting fast and I was trying to eat it as quickly as it was melting. I would have preferred to been able to slowly eat it and truly enjoy the rich flavor of the custard and strawberries. However, sipping on the melted custard with the chunks of chocolate, did make for a nice treat, too. I'm coming back to try some of the food. The inside dining room was filled with senior citizen couples enjoying lunch. If it's good enough for them, I am confident I'll enjoy it, too. The young staff working the service window were friendly and very professional. They've been trained well, in providing quality customer service.

It was probably about 9:30pm and I had ordered a burger & Soda and then also a Red Velvet Cake blizzard (which is my absolute favorite blizzard ever!) But i made sure I was very nice & polite, bcuz it was getting late. But the lblacj lady who took my money was very rude & not even a smile on her face! She even ROLLED HER EYES when I asked for a packet of ketchup & mustard (for my burger) and then a different younger black lady had brought me the packets & I then asked if I could possibly get their 2/$$3 or whatever it was for their valentines cupcakes and she just stood there & "sighed" and rolled her eyes too! this cute younger chic was cute & had hot pink hair & I even said "oh ai like your hair color! It's really cute!" I said. and she just rilled her eyes & walked away. shut the window & walked away. like ... HOW RUDE! I doubt I will be going there again. Just bcuz they're not even NICE! She came back to the window ... the older lady did & states "we only have one" and held up the cupcake. So i said "i'll take it!" and kinda laughed. she just shut the window and didn't even put the cupcake in a bag or anything! This wasn't for me or it wudnt matter, but i asked for a bag to put it in. I'm surprised I got one honestly! Geesh .... like i was asking for a million bucks or something. my goodness! VERY RUDE!

Instead, it was a very enjoyable breakfast. I ordered, The Livy which was, one egg, choice of protein, hash browns and toast. I choose bacon as my protein. Their menu proudly promotes that the bacon and sausage is from local farmers. Trust me when I tell you, the bacon was very delectable. It could have been crisper, but the flavor made up for the lack of crispiness. I choose not to take the toast with my breakfast entree, because I also ordered a half size of Biscuits and Gravy. The biscuit was not made it house, its shape was too perfect. However, the gravy with chunks of locally sourced sausage made it a true comfort dish. The gravy was a semi-thick milk gravy and it wasn't overly seasoned with salt and had the right amount of pepper. Trying to watch my sodium intake, I like it when chefs are light handed when shaking the salt into a recipe. The atmosphere is like stepping back into the 50's. You truly will feel as if you left the sock hop and stopped by the local soda shop for a bite. I'll give you a heads up, the outside is junky with a lot of weird stuff. Ignore the decor on the outside and head straight into the diner for a good home cooked meal. The service was impressive. One waitress was taking care of the entire small dining room. I over heard her tell another table, that she was relatively new. Being new, she did a great job. She was attentive and very personable. Her service alone would get me to come back.
