Menu - the fried chicken smelled really good!

First off - the pie and the staff, amazing! The facilities are clean and it's very country cozy. I wasn't terribly impressed with the food. It's quite possible it was just dish I had (open faced roast beef), but it was stop worthy on its own. The pies are though!

Stopped for some pie on the way back from Firefly Grill!

The service was fast . The server was nice and polite and quick with bringing back the food . I was not too find of the Apple pie because it was very tart and I'm keen to sweet apples.

We stopped at this cute cafe on our way to a wedding and really liked it. The food is good, the prices are great, but the pies are extraordinary! We needed two forks because it was so big we had to share. FYI - They do not take credit cards.

We are driving from St LOUIS and decided to stop and try this place. We were very pleasantly surprised. They give such big portions of food. You get your Entree and 5 sides with rolls. Served family style. We have 5 hours to drive home or we would have taken left overs. They also have lots of pie options with some being "Mile high pies" lots of meringue. I had cherry. It was delicious, definitely homemade crust. We shouldn't have to stop for food the rest of the drive home. Staff was very friendly and prompt with service. Restaurant was clean and feeling of small town cafe. I suggest you try it.

Stopped in for lunch on our way north! Wow! The entire lunch menu is $10.95 and all meals come with two sides. The restaurant is very country and very relaxing even with the rock hard boards on the booth seating. *Cash or check ONLY* They do have an in the front.

Pie!

We saw some billboards advertising the pie so we took the next exit and gave it a try! We were not disappointed! The service was absolutely amazing and the kid working there was so helpful. The diner gives off a small town midwestern vibe which felt cozy and welcoming. The food was a nice home cooked style meal. Chicken and dumplings were 10/10! Great food and then the pie was a big hit as well! Highly recommend!

Stopped in on my way to the day Louis airport when I saw a sign "Blue Springs cafe as seen on food network". Well being the goodie that I am stopped in. Cute diner you would find in any no name town all over middle America. First thing I noticed was the mile high pies right when you walk in. The waitress said sit anywhere you want. Sat down and looked at the menu. Very simple but lunch was 10.95 with 2 sides. I ordered the cod. Had the cole slaw which is a vinegar based slaw and the pickled beets. If course I asked is everything made from scratch? And she said yes. The wait was long for lunch with only about 9 people in the dining room. The sides came out first but I like to eat all my lunch at one time. I nibbled at the slaw and beets which were very good. The cod sandwich came with tartar sauce and 1 slice of white bread for 2 pieces of cod. I couldn't eat it like a sandwich cuz the bread wouldn't hold up. I ate just the cod. The breading was a corn meal base but it was tasty. The cod was cooked perfectly, glistening like Gordon Ramsey says. Really good cod. Once I finished I had to try a piece of pie. Ordered the blueberry. There were very tall meringue pies of all kinds. Lemon, chocalate, custard etc. just want to try a regular blueberry pie. It was one of the best I had eaten. The crust was flaky and delicious. The blue berries were very small so I think they were maybe frozen? Nonetheless delicious. Next time I'm back will go in and try something else. Big BTW they don't accept credit cards. Cash only.

This is a quaint little cafe that you will find right off of the highway. There is a huge private parking lot to park and there is a decent sized dining area to eat. This is a cash only joint, so in other words, yes, I had to pay the ATM that they had on-site, a visit. The staff there is very friendly and this place has a nice mix of transient patrons, such as myself and loyal regulars. The restaurant has a down home, country vibe and is very low key. They serve diner favorites such as burgers, sandwiches, meatloaf, chicken, roast beef, lasagna, and walleye. They also have a wide assortment of amazing pies. This place is home to Foot High Pies including coconut, chocolate, banana and lemon. They also have fruit pies (Blueberry, blackberry, apple, cherry, peach, strawberry rhubarb, and chocolate chip pecan. I ordered some of their fried chicken with a side of baked beans and french fries for me and chicken tender with fries for the littles. It took about 15 minutes for us to get my food. It was fresh and hot. The chicken was good, but was definitely not up there with the best that I have ever had. I really liked the fries and the baked beans were different from the normal ones, but were really good too. Of course, I could not leave there without getting some pie. I snagged a slice of their blackberry pie. You have the option of getting it heated and with a scoop of ice cream. I asked for mine to be heated, but they must have forgot and I got it cold. It was good either way. I really enjoyed it. I wish I could have taken a whole pie home, but I was traveling and it would not have worked. I recommend checking this place out. They have some friendly staff, eye catching and delicious pies, some good food and a very laid back atmosphere. I enjoyed my visit here and it was a welcomed stop on my way to St. Louis.

We stopped here for lunch on our way home from St.Louis. It is standing at a highway exit as the only restaurant in sight there... but that's not the reason we went here. I had read good reviews and I knew it would be good. As you enter you see a bunch of pies on the counter. They all look great. I liked how they have many lunch special options. I had fried chicken with mashed potato and green beans- oh boy that's a LOT of food for under $10! Great. It's hard to find this type of generosity in the city for sure. Food took longer than preferred. Service was good. But they are cash only. There is an ATM inside. I wonder what keeps them from accepting credit cards- it would be so much more convenient to everyone if they did. Overall, it was a good stop on our road trip.

Saw this place thanks to a billboard. The pies are fabulous! $5/slice. Good service. Clean restroom. Menu? Well, do you like liver and gizzards? Walleye? Catfish? This might be your place. Fellow says truckers eat that stuff why has no one yelped about the liver? I need a selfie, PLEASE!

Coconut cream pie to go.

Great diner that specializes in fresh pies. Friendly people, nice little place on the plains of Illinois east of St. Louis. I bought two pies to go. Recommended.

Food was good but wish they had other side options I personally don't care for beets or coleslaw but the rest was decent.

Very unassuming! Would go again!…read more Warm staff - felt very safe. Good food! Very surprised

When people ask why I Yelp, places like this are the answer. Without Yelp, there's zero chance I…read morewould have eaten here, and yet it turned out to be a fantastic option as we were driving down I-70 towards St. Louis. We were headed to the airport and I searched for a 'diner like' place just off the interstate around an hour away. I came across Powhatan, and while the outside didn't look like much in the photos, the food looked great and the reviews were excellent. I bookmarked it, and sure enough it didn't disappoint. The outside is a basic restaurant attached to a hotel/motel. Think side of the road bare bones motel. Honestly, if I hadn't read the reviews I would have just kept on driving. Inside was very nice - not fancy but very bright, clean and welcoming. There was also a small slot machine area off to the side if that's your thing. I ordered the Pocahontas Pride, which was chicken friend steak, two eggs, hash brown casserole (I opted for plain hash browns) buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy. I think it was $15. And it was enough food for two people easily. Very good, and very filling. My daughter ordered boneless wings (I tried a couple since there was too much food for her) and she and I both loved them. I'm normally hesitant to order wings outside of my normal places, but she will order them anywhere and she gave them great praise. She also added 1/2 order of onion rings which were both great and ample - I thought they actually got the order wrong there were so many. Wife wasn't feeling well, so she ordered a simple order of hash browns and liked them. All in all, a great experience for a quick stop during a long drive. Again, without reading the reviews in advance, I doubt I would have ended up at Powhatan. But I'm glad I did!
