Birthday night out with the ones you love!! Beautiful hotel and very friendly staff so far!

The Summer tradition of racing at Kentucky Downs was upon us. We drove down to Franklin for the big stakes weekend of racing. Lots of construction going on with a new hotel and convention center being built. We sat in the Finish Line Pavillion as we did last year. Lunch this year, rather mediocre, was catered by Clean Plate, and there was an open bar. All in all a great day. We decided to head home Sunday, and a good thing, as racing was cancelled due to rain. 81

We use to stop by The Mint Gaming Hall every year traveling in our RV but will never stop again and are telling all of our RV friends about our experience. We stopped on 12/19/23 and parked our RV in the very back, large parking lot, which is where we were told we could park after placing a call the day prior to arrival. Immediately after parking, security came to our RV and told us we had to leave. We told them we come every year in our travels and on the iPhone Map app it clearly shows RV parking allowed. They said we had to leave regardless!!! They weren't even going to let us stay for an hour to spend money at their casino!

Kentucky dances a fun place to spend the afternoon! I'm reviewing it separately from the mint casino, which is a shared property. Kentucky Downs as a track runs just one week a year, in September. They maintain a European turf style track, and attract some of the top horses and jockeys in the country. There are a few distinct areas to watch the races - you can show up early and set up a tailgate spot for those who prefer to bring tents and a full tailgate setup. There's a general admission area where most patrons set up their own folding chairs - that area provides a great view of the track, along with a big video screen so that you can see what's going on in the back stretch. There's also a simulcasting room inside the mint casino, to watch races not just from Kentucky Downs but from across the country. Invited owners and horsemen are invited to the indoor pavilion at the finish line. On the day of our visit, we enjoyed the beautiful outdoor general admission area. Parking at admission to Kentucky Downs are free. Food options are plentiful, with everything from cafeteria type fare two a food truck or two, and even Starbucks coffee. I would highly recommend going to Kentucky Downs during their open week of racing.

Front of building. I couldn't take anymore pic.

I love this place!! Staff is always very helpful. On this visit, they had a couple of staff members checking our temperature and offering mask to those who didn't have one, before we went in. All of the staff members wore mask. I also noticed that they had several ladies with cleaning carts, going around and cleaning empty slots machines. They also have hand sanitizer everywhere. They are doing some renovation so, some parts of the building are closed off. In all, it was a nice experience even with all the changes that we are all going thru.

Odd slot machines. Ok food. Lots of smoke. Nice hotel. Very little casino vibe. Steakhouse is decent for location.

TLDR: Smoker's and Slots-lover paradise. No card tables and not great for non-smokers…read more If you're not a smoker, this place is not for you. Also, my fault for not realizing that a "gaming hall" is essentially slots and sports betting only. I completely mistook "gaming" to also include card games like Blackjack and poker, mahjong, paigow, etc. Those are card games. But nope, slots only. Many of you might say "it's KY of course there are no card games," but I read "gaming hall" and thought perhaps they found a way to make it legal like an Indian Casino. In a lot of the descriptions, it's called a Casino. This is not a casino. Now, it has a TON of nice looking slot machines, so if that's your jam and you love inhaling cigarette smoke, you'll be in paradise. Highly recommend! Aside from my naiveté and surprise there are no tables here, I could have made the best and tried to enjoy myself IF the air filtration system was at least half decent. It needs to be so much better to make it tolerable. Walking through there to get the the restaurants was torturous and then I'd often get a huge whiff of cigarette smoke while sitting in the restaurant, which honestly made it difficult to fully enjoy my food and beverages. Even just walking through there my clothes smelled like smoke and we'll have to dry clean my husband's suit. We originally came here to enjoy watching the Kentucky Derby at the Circa Sports center but that was also slightly disappointing for what we were expecting. That's another issue but again, I imagine the Circa is a huge bonus for people who don't mind cigarette smoke and love watching and betting on sports. Not for us tho. Won't be back to The Mint outside of racing season (August -September) and even then we likely won't be going inside, just staying outside at the track for a fun intimate horse racing experience.

Whether you're stopping in to unwind, enjoy some entertainment, or just try something different, Mint Gaming Hall is a solid choice. Easygoing atmosphere, well run, and a fun way to spend some time. And yes, there's a shiny new stadium rising next door that's going to steal a lot of attention. But for now, Nissan Stadium still gets the job done. Whether you're there for a Titans game or a concert, the sightlines are good, the sound is solid, and getting there is surprisingly easy. One of my favorite parts is the walk across the pedestrian bridges from Lower Broadway and downtown. It's a uniquely Nashville experience, especially when thousands of fans are all heading the same direction. The stadium itself isn't fancy by modern standards, but it remains functional, accessible, and enjoyable. I've had good experiences here, and that's ultimately what matters. A little older. A little worn. Still a good time. Four stars.

It will feature a translucent roof, 360-degree concourses, and 38% closer seating to the field, designed to host NFL, college football, concerts, and major events like the Super Bowl. Gayle and I had the chance to watch all the construction up close as we navigated from the pedestrian bridge to the Edgefield neighborhood. That included a non-ADA compliant walk-around to get to the bridge over the Interstate. This was a huge operation and we got as close as we could without trespassing. Then there's the present Nissan Stadium that will be torn down (for a parking lot) after the new Stadium is finished. This is the home of the NFL's Tennessee Titans, formally the Houston Oilers. Opened in 1999, this 67,000+ capacity open-air venue hosts football games, concerts, and major events like the CMA Music Festival. Game Day is probably pretty exciting here (including before and after Broadway).

When we did get our wrist bands, we were rudely told by the managing event staff at Will Call that there is supposed to be a Will Call stand at Gate 2. We asked for a refund, and the nasty event staff lady tried guilting us by saying we were stealing money away from a children's hospital asking for a refund. And she STILL couldn't give us a refund This whole event is so mismanaged (which I heard was a huge issue last year) that no one has any idea what the hell is going on. But, god forbid you want to set things right, staff will paint you as heartless children's hospital donations thieves. We will be calling after SteepleChase for a refund, and possibly be taking legal action. I will NEVER recommend this event to anyone, and people would be much better off watching a horse race on TV at a crummy bar. Because at least the bar will have their stuff together better.
