Lots of construction going on with a new hotel and convention center being built. We sat in the Finish Line Pavillion as we did last year. 2025 was our third year going to Kentucky Downs. It is a really good time. We buy the package with entry, food and drink. The food was a disappointment this year. Not a safe environment for a female. I have been here multiple times todayvI felt unsafe and targeted as an older female. Another person verbally attacked me and made me feel unsafe. I sat at a machine and a rather large male shouted that he had the game reserved. Ther was no money in the machine and I continued playing. I simply said, you don't have any money in the machine. He said if the chair is turned around it means itvis reserved. An employee then tells me ifvai continue to raise mtly voice I would be asked to leave. I never raised my voice. We use to stop by The Mint Gaming Hall every year traveling in our RV but will never stop again and are telling all of our RV friends about our experience. We stopped on 12/19/23 and parked our RV in the very back, large parking lot, which is where we were told we could park after placing a call the day prior to arrival. Immediately after parking, security came to our RV and told us we had to leave. We told them we come every year in our travels and on the iPhone Map app it clearly shows RV parking allowed. They said we had to leave regardless!!! They weren't even going to let us stay for an hour to spend money at their casino! read more

Kentucky dances a fun place to spend the afternoon! I'm reviewing it separately from the mint casino, which is a shared property. Kentucky Downs as a track runs just one week a year, in September. They maintain a European turf style track, and attract some of the top horses and jockeys in the country. There are a few distinct areas to watch the races - you can show up early and set up a tailgate spot for those who prefer to bring tents and a full tailgate setup. There's a general admission area where most patrons set up their own folding chairs - that area provides a great view of the track, along with a big video screen so that you can see what's going on in the back stretch. There's also a simulcasting room inside the mint casino, to watch races not just from Kentucky Downs but from across the country. Invited owners and horsemen are invited to the indoor pavilion at the finish line. On the day of our visit, we enjoyed the beautiful outdoor general admission area. Parking at admission to Kentucky Downs are free. Food options are plentiful, with everything from cafeteria type fare two a food truck or two, and even Starbucks coffee. This casino should be illegal and i would hope the state reads these reviews and realize the impact the mint casinos are having on familys and those comming here hoping for a fair chance to win something. And for a note to end this review for anyone reading, dont waste your life your time and hard earned money on a pathetic, unsafe and under managed buisness like the mint. Went here with a friend today just to get away from nashville for the night. I've been here one other time before but now I can safely give a proper review after coming here twice now. I'll admit, The Mint is the perfect driving distance from nashville: only about 40 minutes if you beat traffic. The parking lot is huge and has plenty of spaces and the inside of the casino is super roomy. There's TONS of slots here and you can easily spend several hours here, depending how big of a gambler you are. Going in, I took out $200 from the ATM and left with $300 a couple hours later, so it IS possible to get a decent profit if you stay long enough. The bar is nice too. Bartenders are very attentive and super friendly. I wasn't sure if we also just came during happy hour or if these are every day/night prices but i got a delicious whiskey sour for only $5.50! I love this place!! Staff is always very helpful. On this visit, they had a couple of staff members checking our temperature and offering mask to those who didn't have one, before we went in. All of the staff members wore mask. I also noticed that they had several ladies with cleaning carts, going around and cleaning empty slots machines. They also have hand sanitizer everywhere.They are doing some renovation so, some parts of the building are closed off. Just tried to stop here and eat lunch on the way to Nashville. Parked our truck and rv. Before we even made it away from the parking spot an employee came over and told us we had to leave. When I asked why he said all vehicles requiring more than one space were prohibited and told us we could park 1/2 mile away and walk back. The parking lot wasn't even 10% full and there were several construction rigs parked which were longer than us. Really you are turning away a solid group of consumers? After few months of hitting jackpots and am now hitting nothing. They have gotten everything back that i did win. After the last month I have noticed the people that i have seen there over time is no longer coming there because the regulars as there called was complaining the same thing as me. On September 21, 2023. I had accidentally spilt drink on my cash out voucher and dropped it while leaving the ladies room to pat it down with paper towels. I went immediately to cashier counter to report the incident and asked that they please not cash a "wet voucher", that it belonged to me and that ppI had accidentally dropped my voucher between the ladies room and coming to the cashier's counter. I provided them verification of the dollar amount on the voucher. I then proceeded to immediately backtracked my steps and had a floor casino personnel help me. With no luck of finding it. She and I went to the machine that I had cashed out on at which time she opened it to view the/ my data-verifying the time, amount of cash out. Returning to the cashier counter another personnel, Tiffany was there and my wet ticket was lying on the cashier's counter on a damped paper towel. Stephanie, cashier had cashed it out to the thief after alerting them of the importance of not doing so.... Tiffany called security to the counter. Debbie, another cashier told Logan, security that she could describe the culprit that cash it. He took me aside from the cashier counter and said that I would need to file an theft report with the police department. I asked him to review the security tape and approach the culprit to verify what machine they had cashed the voucher on and then it would be obviously a lie. He told me to "hush" and listen to him.. that thousands of people come through the door and have spilt fluids on on their vouchers. I try to explain to him that I'm speaking of in the past 15 minutes!! He told me that my issue is no difference in someone dropping an hundred dollar bill and someone finding it and spending it. As I again attempted to explain to him that it was a voucher and the cashier counter personnel was informed immediately to please not to cash it out that I had accidentally dropped it. Logan had been condescending and rude in cutting me off during the whole conversation. He became hostile and demanded me to leave the casino or he was calling the police. I told him please take a photo of my drivers license for reference and my phone number, and I agreed that the police needed to be called so that I can report a theft. He escorted me to the exit while in a loud forceful tone in front of other customers instructing me to leave and "go sit on that bench outside"! At which time I complied. While outside I was approached by Austin, Security Supervisor and I went over with what I had endured and detailed description from beginning to end of the incident. He assured me that the security tape would be viewed for the beginning of me on the slot machine, cashing out, going to the ladies room, interacting with cashier counter, me backtracking my steps, interacting with casino floor personnel going to the machine to retrieve my data, interacting with Tiffany, Debbie, Stephanie and Logan. That the culprit will be tracked and traced by security film and any machine data that they've played on for their player's card information. That they would be barred from the casino until the money was returned to casino. He assured me that someone would get back to me. I accept the accountability of accidentally dropping my voucher and being due diligent in expediting a investigation within the casino. Check my player's card history. I'm a frequent loyal customer, spending a thousand dollars or more each visit, VIP, and playing more than I've won since the get go. I come expecting to lose, but happy when I win so that I can funnily continue playing, putting my winnings directly back into your machines.. It's the principle of the failure/lack of accountability with the cashiers. Where is this "customer service" reliability? Should they not listen and follow through with a customer's request not to cash out a reported stolen voucher and call security when this is in progress of happening to investigate a potential theft? Let me preface this review by saying that I have been to this establishment no less than a dozen times over the last couple of months and have never experienced anything like what I am about to describe. I am putting this experience on a sole member of the staff at Kentucky Downs who obviously was having a bad night or week or life. These are the kinds of people whom should NEVER be in positions of power, yet alone be allowed to interface with customers on any level. My fiancé and a couple we know decided to visit Kentucky Downs this past Friday night after having dinner. As usual, the place was packed for Friday night and the slots were as tight as they always are. We easily lost a few hundred dollars within an hour so we decided to just have drinks and enjoy the live music. My fiancé and I started dancing to the band. We were having a great time and probably having too much fun for this place. People around were laughing at our silliness as we danced. A lady that works for Kentucky Downs ran into me while we were dancing. I expressed my apology and though nothing more of it. About 5 minutes after that we noticed a Kentucky Downs employee hovering around us. This went on for the next 10 minutes or so. By now we knew something was going on but continued to enjoy the band. This is when the lady who ran into me appeared, standing next to a refrigerator sized fellow who was also an employee of Kentucky Downs. We could see the writing on the wall... She approached me and said, "Sir, we noticed you stumble earlier and can no longer serve you drinks," to which I asked, "Are you asking us to leave?" She said, "No, you are free to play all the games you like but we will not serve you any more alcohol." She seemed to quite enjoy giving me this news. Almost relishing it. Let that sink in for a moment. Apparently I was too intoxicated to continue drinking, but of sound enough mind to continue gambling. The audacity of her to suggest I could continue to gamble after stopping serving me alcohol is astounding. I stood there trying to figure out how someone running into me turns into me being too intoxicated. I finished my beer and we left. We will never return either. I will miss the people in the diner as they are very nice and recognize me every time I would go there. Sadly I think the rest of the staff should take a page out of their book and apply it to themselves. Most people go here to have fun. There is a live band. People dance to live bands. This is just a fact. Unfortunately whoever this woman does not approve of fun, or is just a miserable person and you know what they say about misery... read more

We spent two days last weekend enjoying thoroughbred horse racing at Kentucky Downs in Franklin, KY. Loved the atmosphere. It is more like an old time county fair and is super laid back. They only have 5 days of live racing but the purses are huge and top horses and trainers come from all over the country to compete. They have lots of parking and will even shuttle you to the gate. The track is somewhat like a European track. It is turf and not a standard oval. Kentucky Downs was very enjoyable and we are already make by plans to return next year. read more

We have enjoyed going to the Mint many times. I would have given 5 stars a year ago. We go so much we are Diamond status players. The last few months we have noticed an increase in one player taking up as many as 3 machines for hours at a time. The last two times we did not get to play our favorite machines-$5 Diamond because 2 people were taking up all 6 machines we play. We asked to play and man simply said-"I got money in those machines". We complained to staff on the floor with no assistance. We left after 2 hours. The last time we were there-same thing happened. We complained at the Players club and a woman said she would take care of it. We were harassed be the former player looking over our shoulder and making remarks and did not want a confrontation so we left. We will not be back! read more

When every there is some kind of event happening at Kentucky they set the machine not to pay out. Then machine suck and where they getting beat on half the keys don't work. If you really want to have a chance a winning you will need to bring more then $100 to play with. Today they are giving out candy bars and only a few have some free slot play but the rest has nothing. This place sucks and I guess if I am going to play slots again I will keep going north to Southern Indiania or to Metropolis. I don't think I will ever come back up here. They have slots but after 15 minutes, $80 put in the machines and pulling out a whopping 0.30 cents, we realized that HOUSTON, there's something fishy here. I had 3 separate $20 bills that netted me ZERO.... not a dime. Tried to order a beer and got a list of beer they DONT HAVE. I ordered one Yuengling and the waitress never came back. Tried to cash out a ticket and the machine doesn't give you change. Just bills. I guess you need to take the change ticket to the cashier to get you .50 cents. This place is royally hosed. We ate at the Diner inside the casino. Food is good and affordable. Our waitress is so nice and very friendly. Then, we hit the bar and listened to an awesome band playing some cool country music. So so so fun!!!! City folks gotta have an open mind when you come out here. Nothing big and flashy but just pure FUN. We'll hit the Bingo next time we come here. I enjoy the racing there as I like European turf racing more than the standard American dirt or turf racing. However, there are no speakers to hear the race call for most of the track. No real bathrooms, except in the overly smoke laden casino. No place to sit in general admission. Lack of food and drink choices. I cashed a ticket, so I was happy. I went 3 times in 7 days just to be sure that I was not going to write this review and be wrong. Wednesday night 1/15/2020 my husband and I arrived around 8:00 PM. It was pretty slow and not a whole lot going on. First thing we went into the "High Roller" area. Within a few minutes a woman had hit it for $58,000 on a nickel machine. No noise, no excitement, just a pay out and a walk to the main office I am assuming. She was there with her husband and several other people. I found it strange that a giant win and no shouting, cheering...simply nothing. We spent a little time in that area and I did hit it a couple of times for a couple of hundred, so not to bad. We then exited that area went to the bar and had ordered a beer. Bartender was okay. Not overly friendly by any means. We then went to the smoking area where I played almost every machine it felt like. Win a little, lose a little....you know; it's gambling.. Then the weird thing happened. The husband of the lady that won the $58,000 hits it for..guess what? $54,000!!! Another nickel machine. So what are the chances of that???? You tell me. No real excitement for sure. Again, I think you have a higher chance of being struck by lightning or something?? Not sure what was up with that but a person sitting next to me advised me that they come here all the time. Friday 1/24/2020 we decide to return and see what is up. Walked in and the same thing... person hits it for $19,000 with little to no excitement at all. Again, the person next to me states.."ya they are here all the time". My question is if that is the case, isn't it just random and it doesn't matter when you are there to win???? We decided to go in and eat at the "Lucky 7's again. BIG mistake. Ordered pretzel bites with cheese. We received 2 pretzel sticks not bites and cheese that literally looked as though it had been reheated 10 times. The color was a rusty brown!!! The service was okay but the food was horrible!!!! Saturday 1/25/2020 again we go. Now I am 100% intrigued. We walk in and I decide to order a beer and drink first. It was around 4:00PM and the place is packed. I mean packed. Barely a machine available. No complaints because in Vegas that's a good thing! More playing means more winning you would think, right??? Not the case. No one when we were there won a thing. Back to the bar story. Walked up to the bar. Always wait my turn, leave a tip that is close to 30%, and thank the staff. Apparently you need to be from around there to be important. I watched a lady jump in front of me and proceed to have a conversation with the bartender regarding a wedding, hair style, etc.... 17 minutes later I was served. Bartender apologized for the wait. My thought I would have said.."she is next" and served the person first that was waiting not your friend. Just me I guess. In fact, all the regulars were served first. Again, I guess when you live in a small town in Kentucky that is to be expected?? I threw down another $350 in around 1 hour and not a win. I have had some great times here so I do not want anyone to think it is totally crappy. It can be fun at times. My advice to the team that work here. #1 we are all important. #2 We think the place is rigged to folks that frequent it. I just can't understand how the same family can win not just 1.. but 2 ..giant jackpots in 1 day?? Also, Wednesday night was a give away if you used your players club card. Really??? Did we actually need it?? What took place was a woman walking around picking people she new to win. Again, I guess you have to big from around there. #3 You need to work through the issues with the food and service at the bar. Soon there will be gambling in Oak Grove that will hurt the business. As readers of the Ol' Panochey know, my piehole knows the inside of casinos a tad too well. I've played in California, Nevada, Kansas, Wisconsin and Mississippi to name a few. For sound advice on casinos and gambling in general, I'se invites you to check out some of my other casino reviews for your erudication...er, uhm, erudishun. Slot machines in casinos have fancy math running in them that determines how frequently and how much they pay back, based as a percentage. It doesn't matter if it's $10, $100 or a million dollars, the machine is going to pay back a certain amount, averaged over the amount of play the machine gets. There is usually a State board that oversees the use of these machines to make sure the casino isn't doing some sort of hanky panky and defrauding the sucker, er... gambler. Kentucky Downs, right on the Tennessee/Kentucky border, is the only game for miles. This automatically means that their pay tables, (the aforementioned percentage of payback), is more than likely skewed to the more austere side. From my experience I would have to guess that it is around 90%, maybe a tad less. Your experience may differ, but I saw just one gentleman who had hit there the day we were there, here is his story. He had been playing there for about a year and on that day had hit a jackpot for between $5 and $10 grand. The casino garnished his winnings by 37.5% for "taxes". My experience in these situations has been that the casino W1099's you and you are on your own to make good any taxes owed when you file, so this was a bit of a surprise. It may be that the gentleman chose this option, but it did not sound like that when he spoke of it. Hmm. In its favor, the casino is clean, well-lit, has polite and pleasant staff, free beverages if you are playing, (but booze you still have to pay for I think, I did not order alcohol while there). There is a bar and a restaurant of which we sampled neither. So no wise words from moi on that. The downside, (apart from weak payouts), is that it appears as if all the machines are from the same maker, so a) they are machines you probably never saw before and b) since there are no other makes there the selection of game choices are rather thin, (though there are plenty of machines). We were there in the early evening of a Friday, and though not packed, it was filling up. As others have commented, the smoking side fumes are not segregated enough from their non-smoking side. We chose to ensconced ourselves in the high-limit area as the air in there, though rarefied, was somewhat more breathable. Will the inside of the Kentucky Downs ever see my visage of true pulchritude again? Meh, whuh.., er,...maybe, if I happen to pass by again, but I doubt I'd drive the hour and change it took me to go there deliberately. With the crowds they get there now, there is little incentive for them to richen up the pots, so probably not. This piehole likes them slots a tad bit looser. YMMV. read more

They have had some renovations over the last year to create a larger non-smoking area and bigger bar area to listen to live music. Customer service had taken a step back as they undergo this transformation. Depending on night of the week, I've waited 10-15 minutes for a beverage to be delivered after I've ordered. Oddly, when I went to the window to get a drink, the server barked that drinks for playing guests. Live Music and automated machine to redeem slot vouchers are a huge plus but it's obvious the casino has taken on more than they can currently handle. read more

One evening we decided to take the advice of the commercials offering "Vegas style gambling" and drive up to Kentucky Downs. Nothing could be further from the truth, unfortunately. I actually think staying home and flipping coins would have been a more Vegas-like experience. Instead of a cheery and bustling casino hall, once inside you'll notice a handful of cheap electronic slot machines occupied by (I'm not trying to be mean here) pretty depressing looking individuals. Made our way to the bar and sat for about 30 seconds before we decided to leave- the smoke was just too heavy. I don't know if they had any kind of clean air circulation system but my lungs and clothes told me it either wasn't working it didn't exist. I really feel like this business exists simply to tug on the pockets of locals that have a gambling problem because it certainly isn't a casino. Until there is some serious thought, money, and renovation put into this establishment I'll have to consider this a pretty serious bait and switch. Not a fan. I've been here twice now... once to play bingo and more recently just to play slots and both times I was not impressed. For bingo, I sit in the non-smoking room but it's just depressing. People were playing with some kind of digital machines! What's the fun in that?!? Part of the fun in playing bingo is dabbing your spaces when numbers are called. There's a place back home in WV where I play with my mom and you get there an hour early and mark all your sheets, bring snacks, and set up a whole little area with lots of people and action. This place is the complete opposite. And the slot machines are companies that I don't even recognize. I've played at several casinos across the country (some call it a problem, I call it a hobby), by these slots were not very fun. There were not very many different slot machine options, just a lot of the same machines scattered throughout the room. Lots of staff flitting around....maybe they could empty ash trays or offer them to people who sit at a machine cigarette after cigarette flicking ashes. Very strange set up. Ventilation would be nice. They did have a decent band on Friday night. The bathrooms are clean and look updated. The rest of the place is rather dumpy. They are opening a restaurant and said they might get a nonsmoking section. Even without smoking I doubt I would return. Run down, unkempt needs vast improvements. Absolutely the worst casino i've ever been to. My husband and I were there "maybe" 30 minutes and went through 100.00 winning nothing. Their machines are horrible. Just passing through and wont be back!!! read more

We spent a few hours here while attending an event in Bowling Green that got rained out. We are not strangers to casinos, go to Vegas often, and live near 2 of the world's largest casinos. This casino is in front of the racetrack, they seem to have ample parking. We found the staff to be friendly. There are smoking and no smoking areas. The weird thing is the machines, We did not recognize one machine, they were all new to us. The machines are like bingo or lottery machines. They play differently than your typical machines. Then, there is some horse race deal built into all the machines, like a side bet. It's hard to explain. But...hey, it's a casino, it's entertainment. Don't waste your time here, all new machines that are cheap with horrible graphics and game play. They really have screwed this place up! It used to have a somewhat good variety that was fun to play, but these machines are all basically the same. Not fun any more! You lost me KD and I will not be back. Awful management. We were there for a birthday with all of our friends in there 30's. Had a bar tab for a group of 10 people and they cut us all off due to 1 spilled cup of ice (by a sober individual) and when asked why no one in our whole group could order another drink he said "due to unusual conversations" yet could not give an example except that we questioned why when turned down for drink order - which, seems like a valid question when told "your whole group is cut off". Very poor leadership. Even the security, supervisor and bar tender said they thought it was uncalled for and ridiculous. Don't waste your time trying to have a conversation due to there was no reasoning with management. It was sad due to we were celebrating from out of town and only get together maybe once a year. read more
