TLDR: Smoker's and Slots-lover paradise. No card tables and not great for non-smokers. If you're not a smoker, this place is not for you. Also, my fault for not realizing that a "gaming hall" is essentially slots and sports betting only. I completely mistook "gaming" to also include card games like Blackjack and poker, mahjong, paigow, etc. Those are card games. But nope, slots only. Many of you might say "it's KY of course there are no card games," but I read "gaming hall" and thought perhaps they found a way to make it legal like an Indian Casino. In a lot of the descriptions, it's called a Casino. This is not a casino. Now, it has a TON of nice looking slot machines, so if that's your jam and you love inhaling cigarette smoke, you'll be in paradise. Highly recommend! Aside from my naiveté and surprise there are no tables here, I could have made the best and tried to enjoy myself IF the air filtration system was at least half decent. It needs to be so much better to make it tolerable. Walking through there to get the the restaurants was torturous and then I'd often get a huge whiff of cigarette smoke while sitting in the restaurant, which honestly made it difficult to fully enjoy my food and beverages. Even just walking through there my clothes smelled like smoke and we'll have to dry clean my husband's suit. We originally came here to enjoy watching the Kentucky Derby at the Circa Sports center but that was also slightly disappointing for what we were expecting. That's another issue but again, I imagine the Circa is a huge bonus for people who don't mind cigarette smoke and love watching and betting on sports. Not for us tho. Won't be back to The Mint outside of racing season (August -September) and even then we likely won't be going inside, just staying outside at the track for a fun intimate horse racing experience. read more

The Mint Gaming Hall Kentucky Downs is a nice little spot if you're looking to try your luck without going too far. It's less than an hour from Nashville, which makes it super convenient for a quick getaway when you're in the mood for some casino fun. We visited on January 11th just to try our luck and enjoy a change of scenery. There are plenty of slot machines to choose from, so you're not limited, and it's easy to just walk around and find something that fits your vibe. I also liked that they have different food options inside in case you get hungry while playing. The only downside for me was the smoking--if you're not a smoker, it can definitely get to you after a while since smoking is allowed throughout the gaming area. That being said, overall it's still a decent spot to check out every now and then, especially because of how close it is to Nashville. Went for my birthday, first time. WOW the smoke.. how stupid in this day and age to have a building full of smoking. YUCK The restaurant was a birthday treat. SO much garlic on everything. Butter for the buns had garlic in it. Prime rib was tough and the appetizer was stuffed mushrooms, again with the garlic. The mashed potatoes, not great. Squash was good. Again garlic. I love this place.It's a little smoky on the bottom floor. But since they renovated the upstairs area, it looks very elegant inside a great bartending staff upstairs. The only drawback is the main entrance, where the big bar is. The bartenders are a little rude and selective, who they service based off who they think, is going to tip. We came here to check out the casino and were hungry so we also had lunch. The casino consisted of slot machines that are tied to horse races. It's the only way they can legally have the machines. Kind of strange but I could not tell while I was playing. I did have a bit of fun with the slots before they ate the money I had allotted for the day. The restaurant, Corner Cafe, served very generous portions for a reasonable price. The portions were so big that they seemed kind of wasteful because we could not come close to finishing our meals. Slots allowed me to consistently play for one hour and come out $1 ahead- every trip of course will be different. Corner Cafe is very slow service. Music throughout the establishment is so loud you can't hear person sitting next to you. Cocktail servers hardly come around and you may as well buy a beer at the bar because soft drinks are so expensive. Machines are tighter than any place we've ever played; very few jackpots paid out. Very little comps for points played. Whatever money you take, you'll end up losing. But, the bathrooms are clean. read more

This casino could be so much better in my opinion, being smoke free. All the smoking gives the place a really dirty feel. There is a non-smoking room upstairs. It was still smoky. They've improved the slot machines since I was there a few years ago. There is more variety and not all the same structure. Machines were tight but it was prime time when I was there. I've been to this location and the new one in Bowling Green several times and, although they're fairly new and clean, they are probably the tightest machines I've ever played. In fairness, I'm playing the penny slots and lower-end bets. Might be different if you're betting 300 coins at a time but if I was willing to bet $3 a throw, I'd probably go for dollar machines. Even when you "win" they seldom even return your bet: 44 cents on a 60-cent bet is typical. And so-called "bonuses"? In my book, a bonus isn't a bonus unless it's at least 10 times your bet; e.g., at least $6 on a 60-cent bet. Usually, it's 5 to 6 times your bet, with isn't much. While the servers are pleasant and quick to offer drinks (for which you pay), and the places are pleasant enough, it's always fun to leave with more money than you brought it. Hasn't happened to me yet, and won't. Not going back. read more

This was a fun Casino to visit. The only thing its lacking is card tables, keno machines, and card games on machines. We seen quite a few people winning small jackpots around us. If you plan on visiting this place make sure you don't arrive in a RV. After eating in their cafe and spending money in their casino , we were basically ran off the property. We called in advance and asked if it was ok to park our RV in the parking lot for a little while, we were told that since it was a weekday (Tuesday) and not to busy it would be ok. Maybe an hour later someone rides up to the door and asked how long we would be there, we told them not much longer, twenty minutes later a red head came out in the cart and said the GM wanted the RV off the property. I walked in and stood in line to place my order this morning at the deli. I've eaten here in the past and had good service and food. However, today, the two rather large women behind the counter spent their time talking between themselves. I stood right in front of them, and they continued to talk and ignore me. I was excited to have a 'great' dinner at their steak house then see Etta Mae in concert. The entire experience, dinner and the show room were horrible (read all below) - but, the show itself was great. All my good vibes were dashed upon the wall. Driving 2.5 hours to the venue, I approached the young man greeting people at the entrance. I asked where the steak house was and he sent me to the gaming room! Finally I found someone who knew where the restaurant was. I ordered a glass of wine - it took almost 20 minutes to get ONE glass. I ordered the small portion of the Prime Rib. It was SMALL, about less than 1/3" thick and took ONE HOUR to get my dinner - after the time that the doors opened at the (so-called) theater. I only wanted the mashed potatoes that came with the meat as I was not fond of the other sides. The waiter said he would give me extra potatoes - I said NO, I won't eat that much. So, in addition to the serving that came with the meat, he brought what looked like a soup dish filled to over-flowing with more potatoes. I had to scarf down my meat and part of the potatoes in about 15 minutes to get to the show on time. I always take a sweater or light jacket as most venues are freezing cold - not this place. Lucky: I had a lightweight tank top under my long sleeve blouse. The casino spared no expense making sure there was NO air conditioning. I and the people on either side of me were sweating like... , well you can figure it out. Leaving the casino (where the AC was actually working) it was 82 degrees out - seemingly cooler than the theater. The seating was straight-back, barely large enough to sit on chairs. The theater itself was less than sparse, it looked like a storage room converted to a theater by the insertion of said chairs and a stage. Bottom line: Do NOT eat at the steak house, there is a hamburger restaurant, may be ok, and dress lightly as the room is HOT! read more

Every time I come to the mint in Bowling Green, I can't get a drink it to save my life. Unless I want to go buy one I don't see a waitress come around nobody comes around with drinks Yet I see a ton leaving drinking sodas? when you pay money to gamble, you expect a free drink once in a while. The bowling green mint sucks for that at least in Franklin. They have waitresses walking around and I have complained and was told that they're short staffed. I hear that every time -I was actually here on Friday saw a waitress walking towards us counted. There was only five of us in that area turned around and went the other way ! I have tip money ! I don't know if half these people tip but I do and then today I was here for over an hour. Nope not one person came up and asked if I wanted a drink!!!!! I won't be back!! the one star is for the food in the café. It's very very good here in Bowling Green. Also, I was asked for a tip by a guard here while I was leaving one night with my husband. I brought my sister here who was visiting from out of town and they gave me a free spin because I referred her however two months ago I had brought my other sister who was visiting from out of town. Tightest machines I have ever experienced. During my visit on a Friday evening, I never once heard the familiar sounds of someone hitting a jackpot. I DID see several people walk up, put $100 in, and the money was gone in minutes without a single hit. Seriously, just save yourself a bit of time: take your money and give it directly to the scowling people at the cashier window. Bypass the machines and go on with your day. Better yet, give your $$ to one of the hard-working custodians bc they do keep the place clean. Without a doubt the worst food service of any casino anywhere. I am, at this moment , I am wagering on simulcast horse races and there is no bartender or service to just even get a soda! And when the bar is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday ONLY! You can't order food from the snac bar from the bar! Insane! We drove past on our way home from a day out and I regret doing so. In the state of Kentucky you have to be 18 to legally gamble. I'm 25 and both my friends I had with me are 20. We pull into an over crowded parking lot and before you even enter the building it smells like your southern mamaw that's smoked for 40 years house. We enter and a man asks for our ID at the door. We give him all 3 he scans them in and asks my friends if they're going to the Cafe. They said no we're here to gamble with which he replied ok you're good to go in. In the time it took for me to get a money card and theirs to both get declined We could only find the same attendant that took our id's. I found another machine thinking it might have been a fluke and there was no forward way to add money. A woman comes charging at us and asks where the minors are. They turn to her confused because they are old enough to sign away their lives to go to war or have debt for the rest of their lives but sure "minors". Apparently even though it is legal for them to gamble there they can't be out on the floor playing slots due to alcohol being served. Every other place I've been either states you can't come in in general or has an option for marking the person for no service of alcohol. She informed us they can go to a Cafe there or they can do bingo but that was over already. The attendant that checks people in was standing there looking like he had never heard of that before. I'm glad we got turned away though because no one on the floor looked happy at all. There were no smiles or sounds stating large payouts. The place was clean and flashy but the smell was wretched and the staffs attitude was pretty disgusting overall. If all your staff isn't trained on policy then what's the point?
