Despite the negative reviews here, I think this place was quite good. Maybe if you order the traditional food and expect great traditional Scottish food you'll be disappointed but if you order other stuff like we did, you'll love it. I got the Special of the day - Grilled Sea Bass. This was an amazing alternative to the damn fish and chips we see everywhere. The sea bass was moist and tender, and it was on a bed of roasted vegetables, which we desperately craved after many days of just fried food. We also got the Turkish salad which was a very refreshing mix of cucumber, dill, tomato and onions. Though it was a bit too liquidy, the overall taste was great bc of its tanginess and freshness. I'm a bit shocked to see such negative reviews. I give The Moorings 5 stars for the following reasons: 1. The variety of the menu is wonderful. There is something for everyone, portions are generous, and prices very fair. 2. Food is ready quickly! As most folks coming through are on your group schedules, fast delivery was extremely appreciated and thus served hot and fresh. 3. Service was friendly and food tasty. What more could you ask for at a quick lunch spot? Bathrooms here are also appreciated. Nearby public bathrooms are American style stalls. Very stinky and £.50. Bathrooms at this restaurant are private rooms and complimentary for guests. We'd go back if in the area! read more

I am also confused by the other reviews. The chicken kabobs were quite good and served over chips. My wife got a vegetarian pasta and enjoyed it as well. It was a lot of food. Service was a bit slow, but was full. I would give it a try if you are in town. read more

We had an hour for lunch and our tour guide has mentioned this place was decent. We managed to snag the last table. Service was good. This is a nice family run business. I noticed that a lot of people had ordered pizza, which looked okay, so I asked what their specialty was and then we all ordered it. The kebabs were great! They adjusted sides as per our requirements. I had been eating lots of fish so this was a nice change. read more

We had been here 3 years ago, loved it and came back for more. Friendly attentive service. We were quite hungry and shared the seafood cuvek and mixed kabob between 3 people and it was plenty. -0 stars! A tourist trap that you need to avoid! The most disgusting food we have ever eaten! Rude staff. We were on our way to Inverness and wanted to grab a bite to eat. Everything else in the area was closed or opened later in the afternoon. We reluctantly went in this restaurant. First off the tables were covered in a plastic film over a tablecloth that were filthy. My Husband and I immediately knew we made a mistake coming in here. We should have walked out. The staff of men were all outside smoking and then came in a didn't wash their hands and started touching the silverware. Again another bad sign. We ordered the pizza $16. It was a frozen pizza with old moldy cheese. It was disgusting!! We told the waiter and he said too bad! We ate one slice and paid the bill after the waiter said service isn't included. We then had $5 added to the bill. Avoid this scam of a restaurant at all cost no matter how hungry you are. They are taking advantage of people and serving frozen meals. I purchased chicken burgers and chicken kebabs for my family from the Moorings restaurant. Unfortunately, the burger was super dry,lacking any sauce which made it hard to swallow. The chicken kebab was alright, but the accompanying fries were subpar, and despite requesting garlic sauce, none was provided. Overall, my family and I rate it one star, and we found the food overpriced and of poor quality. read more

Great service and friendly owners! There were only two people working and the restaurant was full, but everything was coming out smoothly! We were running a bit late on time (our fault for poor planning, not their's) so we asked them to bring to-go boxes out with our food immediately. They did just that and even added in free cans of pop! The whole time they were apologizing even though it was not their fault at all! Food was also great! Went here for a quick bite to eat before our Loch Ness cruise. We ordered fish and chips, scampi and chips and a cheeseburger. They get 1 star for bringing us our food in about 5 minutes after we ordered. The food was hot, but everything seemed like it had been premade and was reheated quickly. The bun of the burger was burnt and hard. The french fries were hot, but undercooked mushy soft. The scampi were small pieces of fish that they tried to convince us were shrimp. Nice try. This entire region is a tourist trap, so manage your expectations as such. Any other situation and this would have been a two star affair, but we came in on a tour bus (apparently like many others around) and had a very short time to eat and see the loch. We did get a table right away which was a plus, and our service was very fast and friendly. We also got to pay quickly, so again - for the circumstances it met our need. I had a doner kebab, which seemed like an appropriate choice for the place. It was decent. My son had a burger that he said wasn't bad, and others shared a fish and chips, which got a split review. My youngest had a pasta that she said was fine, but which was one that I would not have touched (Mediterranean pasta, but with cheddar cheese?). For the love of God. I like taking the piss out of tourists as much as the next man, but this place borders on abuse. Lured in by the simple yet agreeable surroundings, in retrospect I feel a bit hard done by from my holiday visit to the Moorings. I had the pasta, which cost about 9 hard earned quid. If I was to describe this dish I would say that if you got cheeky Italian chef Gino D'Acampo to live off pasta for a week, and not chew before he swallowed, then served his resulting defecation in a bowl by the most uninterested waitress in the world, that would have been roughly on a par with my dining experience. As my tour guide aptly put it, this place is a "tourist trap." As one of the only few food options in the area, my family decided to grab a quick bite to eat here in the one-hour lunch break we were given on our day tour. After we asked for four waters, the waiter proceeded to give us four bottled waters, which translate into extra money charges. Seriously, they really want to wring their customers dry of their money! We ordered their fried haddock with chips and peas, grilled salmon with vegetables, and some fried cheese appetizer. The haddock was soggy, the peas were mushy and olive-green colored, which means they had been overcooked. The fried cheese appetizer was meh and came in super small portions (only two little disks of fried cheese). The only saving grace for this restaurant was their salmon, which, although was not seasoned at all (not even with salt), tasted fresh and tender on its own. Seriously, it's not hard to sprinkle some salt and pepper on a salmon that already has winning points for its natural freshness, right?! Way to screw THAT one up! If you're a fan of getting ripped off and seasoning your own food, this is the place to go. Or else, I'd recommend grabbing a sandwich or something down the road at the small grocery store. read more

Very bad. Stay away! The food was not fresh, despite numerous assurances to the contrary while we were ordering. The server was pretty rude as well. He kept pressuring us to order the more expensive dishes and wouldn't make any changes to the order when we changed our minds, while he was still at the table. The excuse was... "I've already written it down". Yeah, like he couldn't have crossed that out and written down another item. This was the only bad dining experience I've had in Scotland. read more

there are less bad tourist traps in this southern end of Loch Ness where all the tourists busses end up. do yourself a favor and buy some snacks or packaged sandwiches from the markets nearby and avoid this place at all costs the service: horrible. there were people seated after us who got their food, finished and left the restaurant before we even received our food! we only had one hour for lunch and had to dash to the lake to take a few pictures in less than 5 minutes because it took so long to get our food the food: not even mediocre and overpriced the location: ok because it's near the loch and close to where the busses park the bathroom: DISGUSTING. I wish I didn't have to be so graphic, but the toilet seat in the mens room wouldn't stay up so there was no choice but to pee and try to avoid hitting the seat. well, I'm better at it that others I guess because the seat was completely covered in urine. and no water came out of the faucets. unreal value: terrible if they even had free wifi I could have forgiven some of this it bears repeating...never come here. never ever ever read more

Such an expensive menu for the poor service quality. We ordered sandwiches (which took quite a while to arrive for what they were) and the bread was stale. The server did apologise for it but how couldn't they have seen the bread before making the sandwiches? The bonus was: my ham and cheese sandwich only had ham inside one half of it and it said it is served with salad and crisps. I had THREE crisps in my plate. My partner was a bit more lucky, he had more than 5, hooray! The tables were disgusting, there was greasy liquid falling down the fake flowers on our table, sticky brown food on the condiment holder and we didn't dare use the cutlery. The staff were nonchalant, we haven't seen one smile or heard one "welcome" from anyone. When we arrived we had to almost explain to the server that we were there to seat down and eat food as he was just stood there looking at us in an awkward way. This place is the epitome of awful. When I recently visited Loch Ness, I was surprised to see there wasn't many options for eating. Not many of the places accept credit cards, and they were also sit down restaurants. I was on a tour and had a very limited amount of time before the boat left to cruise down Loch Ness. I only had a credit card, and because of the time crunch, I was forced to go to The Moorings. The place was really busy and there was a big line. The people attending the patrons were rude, and not very helpful. I ended up getting a meat pie (?) since it was the most transportable. The pie was very greasy and not good. I really didn't want to eat it, but there were no other choices around. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Try to bring cash and maybe do some research of places before visiting. This place is unfriendly, and is probably still around because of the unsuspecting tourist. read more

I was here on Thursday evening, and we were waited upon by an incredibly rude, and racist waiter. My friend had just finished putting his order with the waiter, and literally just picked up his phone before the waiter scolded my friend for using it, before stating "This is not your country. This is my country." I'm still really confused about how picking up your phone was relevant to our race. Furthermore, he had immediately assumed that we with a group of Chinese tourists sitting on a separate table. I understand that we're in a different country with different culture and practices, but I feel this racism and rudeness is undeserved. Food was mediocre as well, and extremely overpriced for the quality. I have had better macaroni and cheese for cheaper prices. I would not recommend this place. read more
