Fantastic cozy place that makes you feel at home! Sat at the bar and had great banter with a few regulars. I had the schnitzel and it was delightful. Crispy and not over fried... spatzle was light and perfect pan fried off. Simpley lovely. And I want to comment that they do a fantastic job washing their beer glasses (and I assume other things). You can tell a clean glass as the bubbles in your beer will not stick to the side of the glass. Not a glass withing my sight had bubbles sticking! Well done! This place came recommended, for their wings, by one of the front desk personnel at the hotel I was staying at. So, I decided to give it a shot. Overall, it was just an ok experience for me. These wings that were recommended were baked and not fried. As one previous reviewer stated, it's hard to keep sauce on naked wings. I went with KLB Raspberry Wheat as a beverage. Although it was in a can, it was pretty good. For the wings, I honestly cant remember what sauce I got. I guess that shows how memorable it was. So, yeah. They were just a basic plain chicken wing. I did opt for some dessert, as I am one to not turn down a tiramisu. Now, this, was excellent. Top notch! On a side note, a co-worker was sitting next to me, and he got the meatloaf and said it was excellent. Maybe I should have gotten that? Nah, I am very particular to meatloaf. Feels like you're invited to dinner by a lovely friend! The interior design feels like a home, with warm lighting and paintings on the walls done by a local artist. They played different kinds of music inside: Fleetwood Mac, Tracy Chapman, Otis Redding. And the volume wasn't too loud to speak or hear over. The service was really fast, they gave us our food all at once which I appreciated for a four-person table! The fish and chips were awesome, not greasy but a crunchy outside. When looking for somewhere to eat on our recent visit to Ontario. we turned to yelp. The Morrissey House came up on our search. When I looked at their posted menu we decided that we would give them a try. Boy we we surprised!!! It turned out to be the best food we had in Ontario. I had the salmon with a pesto sauce and seasonal vegetables. The Salmon was PREFECT!! My husband had a Caesar salad with salmon, also perfectly made. To finish we had a crème brûlée, OMG delicious! Was visiting family in london and went there as the locals like it. - the servers bordered on rude - the bartenders (who were not capable at all) had the attitude that they were some sort of gods - the food actually sucked, I am a chef and I would not have let any of it out of the kitchen (or feed it to my dog) - as for the ambiance - if I wanted to sit under a bright (naked bulb type) of light I would rather be interrogated under one. Decided on a new place for my wife's birthday brought us to the popular Morrissey house in which I've heard so much about but had never been to. I ordered, my usual fish and chips which I seem to try at every establishment in the last year and honestly it had to be in the top 3 fish and chips dinners I've ever had ! I totally recommend it! My wife ordered the striploin steak and frites and she had the meat done to medium rare. She really enjoyed every last bite. As a special treat she received for her birthday a what was called the twix dessert and it was absolutely a dream! The service was excellent and the server was really professional even on her last day of work there which was a testament to her and the kind of employees the establishment hires. This restaurant was across the street from our hotel. The outdoor seating was often busy in the evenings and the night we were there we sat inside. We waited to be shown to our table and were seating in the front seating area. The round table for two wasn't large but enough room for our drinks and plates. The room is decorated with paintings and there's mood lighting which was turned down a few times during our dinner. The menu had lots of options and I decided on the pork schnitzel which comes with one or two pieces and I opted for one. The pork was a large piece served on top of mashed potatoes and green beans. The beans were a bit greasy and the potatoes were creamy. The pork was delicious. The meal also came with dill sauce. The service was great throughout our meal to refill our drinks and bring out our food. The food did take a bit long to come out but it was busy and we weren't in a rush. I had supper this evening at the Morrissey House ... I had supper there three years ago and thought it was okay. It's near my hotel and was recommended by the receptionist so I thought I would try it again. It was such a nice night that I sat outside on the patio. The last time I was there I'd ordered wings with a sauce, which didn't stick to the wings. This time I ordered them with sea salt and pepper, which stuck to the wings. The wings were tender. I was still hungry so wanted dessert. Margaret, my server, recommended the Twix Pie with salted caramel ice cream. It was delicious ... better than the wings! read more

Food and service has always been consistently above average to excellent. Good casual atmosphere for adults, especially in small groups. Never have had a bad meal, and I have tried almost everything at some point over the years. Fries are seasoned well. Chicken wings are grilled, not fried, which makes them stand out as a go-to menu item, especially with about a dozen flavours to choose from. Scotch and craft beer selection is excellent (one of the best in the city) and well priced. This establishment was the first in the city to kick out the mass volume beer labels (except for Guinness) and replace them with Ontario craft offerings instead. Kudos to Morrissey House!! read more

First time I was blowed out by the "to die for" flavours of the Meatloaf Dinner. Perfectly seasoned, tangy, rolled with juicy bacon. My or your grandma could've cooked that delicatessen. I couldn't waist a bite. No guiltiness, a good nap, some good satisfied burps, and a big smile. 2nd time was a brunch after Patrick's. Busy bubbly ambiance with a different brunch menu. They were lacking salmon for those popular Benedict's, so a Ruben whistled me. A super fresh, crunchy arugula+pear/w/toasted pecans+vinagreta+Parmesan salad was the perfect partner. The sandwich had a perfect amount of Dijon, cheese and texture. My partner in crime asked the chimichurri steak and eggs. He was happy giving compliments. He just mentioned that the steak was a little over done. 3rd time on a Tuesday around 10 I was bored. I guess I got used to be well fed by crossing the street. I ordered the Chicken Florentine. I got disappointed with the first bite. No flavour, dry meat, big burnt areas... it's sad when your favourite part were the potatoes and greens. I specifically came on a Tuesday for their half priced wings after reading a lot of great reviews. I expected a little better of the wings; be aware that they don't come breaded. The presentation was next to none, the wings were just thrown on a small plate. I was impressed with the sauces which are all made in house. The nachos came loaded with beans, peppers, corn and other toppings but the cheese dried hard and made it very difficult to work with. Nothing special. If I were to end my review here, I would give Morrissey House 3 stars. But the service was HORRIBLE. My waitress was grumpy, snappy and I was afraid to ask her any questions. She did not check up on us even once and it took several attempts to waive her down for the bill. Perhaps her lack of service towards us was because we were students. I noticed her being very friendly and open with other guests. The restaurant is in a old house over 100 years old, creating a very comforting pub like atmosphere. The lights are very dim however and many of the guests were using their phone flashlights to read the menu. Although the food was decent I will not be coming back due to the unacceptable service. read more

As good as it gets in my opinion, I loved my visit to The Morrissey House at the end of January. Looking at it from the outside you might prejudge it as a bit of run down converted house, but I implore you to take the chance, walk up those steps and enter their doors. It's very cute inside as you can definitely tell this was a home at one point as the entire restaurant/bar is divided into different rooms. Which on initial entry might throw you for a loop, but once you're seated it's actually kind of cozy. The bar is contained to one room for those bar flies who want to sit on stools, watch the game and shoot the breeze, while the dining rooms are in their own space, which when seated in them feel a lot like you're eating in someones dining room. Decor aside, location is great as it's only a stones throw (5 minute walk) away from the Delta London Armouries Hotel (one of my new fave places to stay when I'm in town). For me what really puts this place in a higher class of restaurant/bar is the fact that they provided high quality, delicious, generously portioned meals at more than reasonable prices AS WELL AS had an extensive list of craft beers from across Ontario and Canada in both bottle and draught! For my meal I went with the Spiced Pear and Arugula Salad and added shrimp (for only $5) which was absolutely divine, the mix of Tender arugula and mixed greens is served with toasted walnuts, grilled spiced pear and topped with a sherry walnut vinaigrette and topped with freshly shaved parmesan cheese (all for only $9.50). What a steal! And you absolutely MUST add the shrimp because for $5 I didn't get 3-5 skimpy shrimpys... heck no, I got more shrimp than I could count! Amazing! They've got a super eclectic menu ranging from gourmet pub faves like fish and chips, to vindaloo curries and jambalayas - it's crazy! Definitely great bang for your buck, with more food and beer combinations than you could hope to tackle in a year! I cannot wait to come back to London and pay this spot another visit. I've been here a few times since my first review. Last visit was a return to the pork schnitzel which retains its spot as yummy. However, they really do need to put a bit more bam into the taters and the seasonal veggies have just been a bust every time. Roasting some squash with pepper? Do better. The other visits I've tried the meatloaf and the chicken clubwich, which has allowed a bump to 4 stars. I really liked the garlic aioli of the clubwich, but it's wise not to pair with their caesar salad which is very garlic heavy.The people I took to experience this place really liked it, so it does have good appeal. read more

Walked into the restaurant and was a little surprised by the look of it as it was almost like a little house, but shortly to my belief the atmosphere of the restaurant ended up being really nice. The food took a little while to come and was not the best service. Our table ordered an order of wings for our table. The flavour of the Louisiana wings were good however the wings weren't very well done and kinda took away from the wings. They could have been more well done and spent some more time in the fryer. On the other side all of the mail courses were delicious. The mac and cheese was very flavourful and came plated beautifully. The mo'sa fe salad was also very nice however unlike the chicken wings the chicken was to well done this time. I really really want to like this place. The atmosphere is unique, warm, cozy, and homey. You walk in and you get to pick where you sit - seating choices that span across six rooms on the first floor of the building. Walking into the place, I expected a great experience. My friends and I came in around 12pm on a Saturday - the place was busy but we were able to get seats in the room facing the front of the building, directly to the right of the entrance and near the bar. We ordered: Mains - Eggs Benedict - Classic, Fish 'n' Chips, and the MOtown Philly Naanwich; Desserts: Turtle Cheesecake and Whiffletree Pie. Mains: Eggs Benedict (served with home fries): I got a chance to try a bite of my friend's dish - it was easily my favourite first bite of the three mains we ordered. The sauce had a nice tang to it that not other Hollaindaise sauces have. But my friend said that as she continued to eat it, it got to a point where it was a sour taste. Fish 'n' Chips: This is one of Morrissey House's signature dishes. But, unfortunately, it didn't taste like it. Instead of a nice crispy exterior, the batter around the fish was soft and soggy because of too much oil and it was seasoned with too much salt to the point where it had to be scraped off. The only good part of the dish was the side of fries that came with it. The fries were crispy and nicely seasoned and spiced with salt, pepper and something else that gave it a nice deep flavour. MOtown Philly Naanwich: I was looking forward to this dish because I like the idea of pairing naan with the ingredients found in a philly. First impression - too much meat. Meat is good and it can be delicious in large amounts but, in this case, it left the naanwich dry. There was a lack of other ingredients: peppers, provolone, onions (I dont even remember tasting them), and spicy cream cheese sauce (I could barely taste it - it was bland). This was a dish that sounded so promising - especially with its unique combination of ingredients but its taste fell apart because of an imbalance of flavours. It did come with a side of delicious fries though! Desserts: Whiffletree Pie: If done well, it'd be like a molten cookie in a pie/tart crust. But today, it was overcooked which left it with the texture of an overbaked cookie - instead of chewy and moist, it was harder and crumbly. You get a choice of gelato flavour with the pie and I chose Bailey's chocolate but it tasted slightly freezer-burned. The best part of the dish was the caramel drizzle - it was sweet and creamy - reminded me of dulce de leche and condensed milk. Turtle Cheesecake: probably the best item we ordered. Although it came with a side of gelato (my friend chose French Vanilla Bean - tasted freezer-burned), the cheesecake tasted like Turtles chocolate and it was decadent and sweet. My friend would definitely recommend this item. The service was on the slow side of things. We waited about 30 minutes for our mains to come and our waitress didn't come by as often as we needed - maybe the place is understaffed - we only saw two waitresses circulate and one of them was also manning the bar in between. Overall, I can't say that I'd recommend the place or would want to come back for mains. The fries were fantastic, the Turtle cheesecake was great and, looking at the list of drinks, there's a great variety of options. I really like the atmosphere so maybe I'd come back to try lighter items, or just for the fries and a casual drink with friends. read more

Was staying at Holiday Inn across the street and figured I would give this place a try. I ordered the 2 pieces of fish and chips and the mussels in wine and butter. Everything was really good. Mussels were very tasty (not as big of a portion as I've had from other restaurants) and the broth was very good. Would have liked some bread or toasted bread along with the mussels but nothing was included. The 2 pieces of fish were crisp on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. Tarter sauce tasted homemade. Fries were good! I didn't need any ketchup or condiment as they had their own tasty seasoning. Price was decent for the quality and quantity of food. Servers were pleasant and friendly and food was prepared in a timely manner. I would recommend and return to this restaurant again. Patio is located in front of the restaurant on Dundas Street so it can get noisy during heavier traffic but fun to people watch. read more

Not bad but be warned if you like a quiet evening: This restaurant is a converted house with tables and chairs set up in what used to be bedrooms. It gets LOUD in here. If you're seated next to even a small size group you'll need earplugs. The sound bounces off the walls and ricochets all over the room. The first time I was here it was nice and quiet because most people chose to sit outside on the patio as it was nice out. The second time I came here it was raining so everyone was indoors. My hearing is starting to come back now. The menu is varied. They offer a sampling of many different ethnic foods as well as pub staples. The first night I was here I ordered the Striploin Steak. It's an 8oz Manhattan cut strip steak char-grilled and topped with sriracha butter. It's served with roasted fingerling potatoes and vegetables. Nice. My second time here I wanted something a little different, yet familiar, so I had the Lomito Burger which comes topped with ham, smoked cheddar cheese, a fried egg, arugula, and chipotle mayo and is served on a ciabatta bun. With fries. It was kind of breakfast-y but great for a change. Staff are and friendly and easygoing and probably love dogs. I would say I'm a semi-regular at Morrissey House. Mainly I go for Trivia on Monday Nights which is always a good time! Mark does an amazing job making an original pub quiz. The food is good too. My regular staples are the Mac & Cheese, Chicken Clubwich, & Pork Schnitzel. Their sweet potato fries are also really good, as is their Caesar Salad (super garlicky) and their Nachos. I'm not a beer drinker, but they have a huge selection, and a lot of microbrews available. They have a great wine list and often have ciders & radlers that you can't get a most other places. read more

I think that this was a nice pub and grub restaurant, transformed from a dormant mansion. Arriving here, it was almost quiet and empty, but filling up quickly, the restaurant went from pleasantly quiet to as loud as many pubs are during football games. The only thing I have to admit is that the food was well-made, and the local beer tastes very well. The food was excellent, and the staff treats you like family instead of bill and coin. The risotto balls were not bad, but the sausage platter I had was excellent. Bottom line is, try out the beer and sausage platter for your toonies and loonies. Consistently above-average pub food and a friendly atmosphere. Mondays nights they host a Pub Quiz that is always a good time. Arrive by 18h30 if you want to ensure that you get a seat (especially if you are planning on eating before the festivities start). Such a great old house - there are booths and tables, plus bar stools and a patio in the summer. People seem to find the space that suits them best and return to that area repeatedly. I find that it can be a bit cold inside in both the winter and the summer, but that could well be my issue alone. The work of local artists is featured with prices and contact information. The staff are great, although service can be a bit slow because there isn't a dedicated bartender, so the wait staff are responsible for drinks and for food. They've had some of the same staff for years, so patrons can expect to be greeted by name and have their orders remembered. I always look forward to chatting with Mark, the owner. I haven't tried all of the menu because I like to stick to my favourites which are always well-executed. Top of the list is the pulled pork ($10.75). The burger is also reliably tasty ($10.75). The daily specials are a good opportunity to try something new. For example, on Tuesdays wings are half-price. They offer several interesting sauces (e.g. piri piri, citrus honey garlic, etc.) instead of the ubiquitous "mild to wild". There are no words to describe how great this place is other than: LOVE What happens when great food meets great local drink meets great wait staff (they are a riot!)? You get magic, magic in the form of a pub that is still in the heart of downtown, while being far enough away from Richmond Row to avoid having all those unwanted dirtbags that frequent other bars. Pretty much everything on the menu is a hit, but if it's your first time there definitely try the Mo'Sa Fe Salad (enough for two meals!), Meatloaf Dinner (the gravy is heaven) and the Lomito burger (ask for extra napkins!). There is pub trivia every Monday night, which fills up quickly. And when I mean quickly, I mean people vie for spots at 6:30, when the quiz doesn't start til 7:30! It's well worth the wait though, this quiz will test your general knowledge from science to history, current affairs, music and sports stars. This is a can't miss place in London. read more

Well, we were looking forward to this evening with another couple. We had heard Morrissey's was a fun spot with good food. It was an early evening reservation. We were located close to the kitchen access, and very shortly after arriving, 2 groups came in and were seated next to us. Soon after, the noise level grew to deafening. We had schnitzel which was the worst we have ever had. Sorry, but that's fact, a cardboard box would have been more tender in comparison. The beer was good and reasonable price. Decent find in London Ontario, the setting is nice on the inside and broken down into a bar and many different dining sections. I can say with the menu at least they are trying to be different and authentic. For instance in Canada its hard to find Mac and Cheese, it looks like they have it and it's homemade. They have Meatloaf, Garlic mashed potatoes, Sausage platters and many other hard to find items. I had the burger which is standard, but as far as different it is served on a Ciabatta Bun Burgers are homemade as well, the fries have a bit and are seasoned it seemed with pepper which again I appreciated how they were not plain as can be. Someone else in my part had the Cottage Pie and she was impressed. Dessert was good to the Turtle Cheesecake and Lemon Meringue cheesecake were served round which your choice of gelato, I had the Caramel and it was delicious. The Cheesecake was not know your socks off but good enough to get again. The atmosphere was nice and low key, not as "uppity" as a franchise which as a good chance of pace, the service was friendly by all but a little slow. I've heard so many great things about this place, so I was really excited to try it out. When I went in for a group gathering, I was dismayed to find a very small menu "to make it easier for the staff and kitchen". Am I not understanding something? Is this not a restaurant? If we weren't there, wouldn't another group of people of the same number be ordering from their full menu (from separate tables)? So I ordered the 1 piece schnitzel and found it to be very dry. I ended up just eating the mashed potatoes and asparagus, because those were the only edible items on the plate. A friend ordered the muscles (that she has to ask for since it wasn't on our little mini menu) and found that half of the muscles were empty. Since I was there for a party, I continued to order drinks and continued to be disappointed (except the gin and tonic, which was alright). One had ginger in it (I think it was one of their martinis) and it tasted like how a dumpster smells.
