I visited The Witch's Cottage, also known as the Gallows Hill Museum & Theatre, for a show in October and enjoyed every minute of my experience. The staff knows exactly how to run its shows, with large crowds trembling over the cobblestone steps outside this charming Salem edifice. The show was just perfect in length, especially for kids, and gave its viewers interesting facts about Salem's history, including the witch trials. The Witch's Cottage is perfect not only because it has a great staff and a fun show, but also because it is nicely and conveniently located within walking distance of a lot of attractions in Salem. Following the show, my family and I purchased t-shirts in the Museum and headed out onto the old and classic streets of Salem. It made our venture to this Museum even more worthwhile as we were able to know exactly what occurred centuries before in the streets we padded down. If you are in for a good show--put on by an outstanding cast and staff--and want to learn about an interesting, old town in New England, then you definitely have to visit The Witch's Cottage!!

We arrived at 10 am and there were fewer than 10 cars in the lot. This is mid October which is peak time so you can imagine how confused we were. $25 got us a small bag to fill. That was all we had to pay for the group of 5 of us! No ticket or bag per person requirements you see at other places. This is a pretty small orchard so by mid-October, I would guess only 1/3 of the trees had apples left. All of the Asian pears and other stone fruits were gone at this point so you'll want to go in September for those. We were still able to get 4-5 different varieties of apples. The only con is that you don't have all the other activities and attractions that you find at larger orchards. No apple cider donuts, farm animals, playground, food, or tractor rides. For us that was okay because my older parents and 1 year old didn't need those things and preferred the quiet experience without the lines. Maybe next year, we'll try Conner's when the little one is older and can appreciate it. If you want low key apple picking without paying a fortune, this is the place for you.

They have acres of apple trees and none of the crowds you see in other places. There were only 5 other cars the entire time we were there...felt like we had the place to ourselves. No frills, no nonsense. Just tons of delicious ripe apples, a beautiful landscape (great for family photos), and super friendly staff. The only downside (not their fault) is that the farm is really close to the Topsfield Fair, so many of the adjacent roads have "closed" signs to prevent neighborhood traffic. If coming from the South, do yourself a favor and ignore the closed signs. Otherwise you might never get here.

We've been coming to the Topsfield Drive-in for the past couple of weeks now, and it's been a great option for going out. There are concession stands set up, masks are required when you are outside your vehicle. It's been nice to go out for a movie. This week was Beetlejuice. For some reason I'm watching it now, and it's a really weird plot line for a movie, but I remember not questioning it as a kid. I remember the gags and the running jokes with Delia's sculptures, Barbara having a literal zipper on her mouth. Holy crap that is young Alec Baldwin and I didn't recognize him. Beetlejuice needs to marry Lydia, an adolescent for whatever reason? It just struck me last night that this movie probably wouldn't be made in today's day and age. I still love it though, however I'm starting to notice that I question more things as I get older. So, last week was actually Jumanji: The Next Level. So it's nice because there is a nice spread of movies to watch. The concession stand is fairgrounds prices, which is okay but who can be mad over $7 deep fried oreos, they're delicious and where else you gonna get this? They do offer radios for rent at $5 a pop, or to jump your car for $5 if your car dies while listening to the radio for the movie. We've run off the battery for a movie and have been fine. I would caution not to rely on your battery unless it was replaced recently, and just buy a cheap radio to watch the film.

This local theatre is a Reading institution and is such an important part of our community, helping young and old refine their theatrical talents. The beloved Hose House has been completely re-done and the new sound and digital capabilities are excellent. That being said, it still holds the old school charm that I remember and love so much! Last night I saw the performance 'Songs for a New World' and it was moving, funny, and rich with talent. A talented cast and a great show. I highly recommend stopping by and catching this show while it is in town this November!

The box office is usually open at the beginning of any performances last minute tickets sales are usually available. There was also a wonderful snack bar with some great homemade goodies and drinks. The staff is always very polite and accommodating. I highly advise anyone that has not visited to make it a point to purchase some tickets to a show here you will be very pleased. FYI, I believe it's only on street parking. Just come a little bit early to secure a spot on the street close to the theater.

Decent restaurants to dine before shows and decent spots to park. For the right group, we'll check out Lynn again!
