I wanted to like this place, but the piano instructor decided after 4 lessons that reminding my 8-year old son to sit with his feet flat and legs uncrossed was too much for her. She also complained that he spoke too loudly even though I sat right outside the door and never heard him get any louder than voices from other rooms. When I spoke to the owner, he stated the instructor told him that my son was not following directions, which was not the case. My son just needed extra reminding about posture. We were basically told to take our business elsewhere, which we did. Different strokes for different folks perhaps, but I would not recommend this place for children needing piano lessons. read more

I walked in to find some info on guitar lessons after seeing an ad in a mailer to the house. I have visited before and the place is very interesting. The showroom, seems very intimate sort of like a living room. There are nice decorations, star photos, guitars and drums displayed around the room. The amount of guitars has decreased as it has become difficult to compete with the internet and the box stores. Many come here for the music lessons. I am planning on taking guitar lessons here. I can across a box and everything inside was one dollar each. My best buy was a Fender guitar tuner for a buck!! read more

During my sons fourth grade year, it just passed, he had a music class for the year at his school. The problem was that the school did not have enough instruments for everyone so we needed to rent a violin for the school year. Apparently it's common here in Yorba Linda school district because the day I walked I into the music lab many families were in with their kids renting instruments. The way it works is you pick your instrument. For us it was a violin. They have different sizes so they made sure it was good arms length with my son. It came in a case with cloth and box of rosin for the bow. You sign a contract for the year which is $65 every 3 months. Comes out to be three payments during the school year. You leave a credit card to be put on auto pay. For the first payment you also pay a small insurance fee which covers small damage to violin but no theft. From the day we first rented it we did not go back until recently when we returned it. My son did drop the bow, which is the part with the horse hair you glide over the strings of the violin, and it had broken. I walked in prepared to pay for damage if needed but Victor made sure the violin was in good condition and said not to worry about the bow. We knew there was no repair to the bow but he was cool about it and said the insurance fee would cover it. It was smooth and easy process and I will definitely be back this next year. Victor suggested to come in August to rent the instrument needed because it gets super busy in September and they have slim pickings. He said he will not charge for the month of August but wants to make sure we got an instrument. They don't just rent instruments but also do music lessons and the shop is cool with lots of photos and instruments set up. read more

Our son has been a student at the Music Lab for a couple of years now, first learning guitar with Scott, now doing drums with Ray. I have been grateful and can't say enough about the patience of these two teachers with our son. I requested at the beginning that our son be allowed to progress at his own speed and not be pushed, and was very well accommodated. Yet I have no doubt that both these teachers could create an outstanding musician out of their students who want to work very hard and progress quickly, too. The place just has a "cool" vibe to it and it's fun to look around. The waiting area has comfortable couches, but you're welcome to go into your child's lesson as well. My kids and I have been students at The Music Lab for about 2 years now and I just cannot say enough nice words about our experience there. We have been to various music schools and there is always a sense of egos and like you are just money and minutes to the instructors...you WON'T get that at The Music Lab, The Music Lab is ALL about quality not quantity and Vic the owner makes sure his instructors stick to this. Vic is a straight forward and HONEST and sweet man who is always more than happy to answer any questions one has. This is the first music school we have been to that the environment feels like home, like family. My son takes drum lessons with Ray and my son who tends to be shy and a bit tense feels extremely comfortable with Ray and he has grown leaps and bounds since he has been under Ray's instructing. Ray is very proud of his students and he likes to pull the parents in from time to time when he is very proud of his students achievements. My daughter takes piano lessons with Jan Stephens and Jan is such a natural musician with a nurturing touch and my daughter absolutely LOVES Jan and her style of instructing, very direct and with a technique that is easy for one to grasp. She is also very much into informing us parents about the progress and accomplishments that ones child is achieving. I myself have been taking guitar lessons with Scott...Scott was able to take a person like me who always wanted to learn how to play guitar but NEVER thought I could and make a full blown guitar enthusiast out of me. I SOOOOOOOOO love his style of teaching and his approach, along with teaching the foundation of playing guitar he allows one to bring in songs that one likes and he shows you how to play it while explaining the music theory behind it. Scott is SUPER easy going and he never cuts a lesson short or stops right at the 30min mark just because 'your time is up' he makes sure that his students don't walk away mid lesson. I always wondered how this place stayed in business. Now I know. When my 5th Grader needed an instrument for band, he told me all the Lakeview students go there. We originally bought a used trumpet elsewhere but it was poor quality and one of the keys were broken. Victor the owner, tried to fix it for us. After inspecting it, he explained why it was not worth it replacing the part. We ended up renting an American made trumpet for $20 a month. He taught my son how to care for it and we walked out happy customers. No wonder they have been in business for 20 years, just good old customer service! read more

My son (6th grade) has been taking electric guitar lessons here for over a year now and loves it! He's eager to go see his teacher Ross every week and has learned so much in a relatively short time. The teachers and owner are so nice and caring, the students all seem to enjoy coming in and learning. I thought my son would loose interest after a while, trying to learn this instrument, but he truly enjoys playing and learning new songs etc.. I noticed on here, The Music Lab is in Yorba Linda right near where I live, which is great and convenient. I called today and I guess they were closed, but someone did answer the phone. He passed the call to Victor who I guess is the owner. He was very nice on the phone, and set me up for a free lesson next Tuesday. My son attends the music lab for guitar lessons & some drum lessons. My son's instructor Brian, is not only funny but patient as well. Brian had my son create a music binder, assigned him homework and every time they met, they'd go over the homework & learn new things. I'm very satisfied with Brian's instruction techniques & the overall service of this place. You can purchase guitars and many other things especially Fender stuff. The price of the music lessons is very reasonable, cost of instruments is also great. I highly recommend the music lab & I will continue to have my son go here. Wonderful place to take guitar lessons. I'm a beginner and my teacher, Scott, was extremely helpful and taught me so much in a short amount of time (I'm a college student, so I could only take lessons during the summer). I learned fundamental techniques and got to pick almost all the songs I learned which was really nice.
