He was so patient and invited us into a private sound proof room to try out the different flutes. He was so patient and not only let but encouraged my son to try every single flute & piccolo! Nice staff, honest and helpful. I took my daughter's clarinet for possible issue. Since I have no idea what is wrong, I took it to Music & Arts for a check up. The technician was able to resolve the issue quickly and noted that there was just some minor adjustment, nothing major. No fees, just a quick diagnosis of what was up and took care of it. This place also has all the things I've ordered online, with reasonable prices, so in case you need that one thing as quick as possible, I would try coming to this place. I drove all the way out of my way to this location because they had a specific flute I wanted. I had called the evening before and spoken with Crystal who confirmed that it was there. I told her I'd be over shortly after opening the next day to purchase it. The place was easy to find and had a decent amount of parking spaces (very important to me for ease of access). When I entered the store Crystal was busy with another customer at the time but it didn't take long for her to get to me. I let her know who I was and she was able to quicky grab the flute for me. She worked smoothly to get me all set, let me know about other services they offer at the location, and informed me of other locations that may be closer to my home. We did some lessons & rentals for school band percussion for a year & tried the violin & drums over the summer. Their policy on exchanging rental instruments was great. We seemed to get new instruments each time for the rentals which was nice. We had violin lessons with Christina and drum lessons with Brandon. Both were very good teachers as they were patient, knew how to relate to kids, focused on foundations & seemed to really enjoy helping others to learn. Was surprised how much my daughter picked up on the drums in a short time. Down to earth place, friendly front staff. For a chain, seemed like a real mom & pop shop. Only downside is that their instructors were only there 1-2 days/week which was hard during the school week for us. Also staff knowledgeable in violins were only there on limited days as well. read more

This is the most dishonest, slimy business I have ever dealt with. For over 8 years we have been paying fro our son's rental instrument. My original contracted that all monies spent could be used towards a future purchase. Now that I want to purchase an instrument, they are denying the contract exists. When I produced the original contract signed 8 years ago, they deflected to their mythical GM. But you can never get in touch with this person. Call their customer service line and deal with perpetual hold then get told they can't hear me and hang up. Completely unethical STAY AWAY fro this business! read more

I was recently given a clarinet by my father, as he has a condition that no longer allows him to play. Instead of purchasing reeds and songbooks from the internet, I sought out a local shop. As a complete novice and knowing very little about my needs, I was beyond embraced by the staff at Music and Arts. They were genuinely excited with me in this phase of learning and discovery, and it completely dissolved my intimidation of a instrument language foreign to me. I don't live quite close enough to take lessons at their location, but without hesitation, the manager recommended a woodwind instructor in my neighborhood. Disappointing. I had called a head to ask if there was a certain music book available for sale there and the person on the phone said yes. I told him I'll be on my way to purchase one. It took me 30 minutes to drive to this location. At arrival I was not greated. I stood in line to be helped for 10 - 15 mins. waiting. I stood in line behind 1 other customer in the shop. Be sides that there were no other customers. After they were done. I told the man the music book I need to purchase. He told me he didn't have any! Why didn't he tell me that over the phone. I have never played an instrument in my life. Never have...never will. My son, however, plays the flute and he needed a quick repair. We showed up to get it looked at by an expert. What a cool store! Tons of stuff and tons of staff. Lots of customers, too. We were helped quickly. The problem was fixed in about 5 minutes. No charge. Plus, they gave us tons of free advice on upkeep. Sweet! Please be careful to rate them at the end of you contract, I was at first impressed by the service until it was time to end the contract. I paid on an instrument for over 3 years... I called and spoke to Jose to return the instrument (I asked them not to bill my card anymore) and was told I had a credit balance, they would order my new instrument from the warehouse and upon arrival they call me to pick it up. To make it short, I was charged again, called the store and was told the instrument was there. When I arrived Abraham told me, I should be glad they charged my card again because I had a $15.70 balance DUE so it took care of everything so now I owe $0. I asked for a statement of my account and he said he can't see it and don't have access. Rental only: Nicole, store manager, assisted us. She was polite and professional, patiently answering all our questions. Their rental prices are competitive and the instrument we received looked new. We bought the insurance for piece of mind, as it wasn't too much more. She also recommended some cleaning and maintenance pieces, which were reasonable. What we really liked, as compared to some other establishments, was that they did not require a social security number. Eye opener, I'm surmising it might have been standard practice at one time. During the return process the associate helping us, Moises, remarked that when my wife called and spoke to him he had said that he was sure he mentioned the policy regarding the rental/purchase of the instrument. They were extremely helpful when we purchased the instrument, accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly. I am extremely disappointed at the service. A simple repair of corking and relaxing a few keys on my clarinet became over a month process. First the sales lady didn't listen to my initial request. Called me to say it was repaired. They didn't repair all of it. After that got cleared up they promised 8-10 business days and didn't meet that deadline and I am the one that had to call them to check. Finally, after going in and speaking to technician I was told it would be ready by the end of week Friday. Four days after that missed deadline they apparently left a message. I don't have said message. I finally called. Nearly 4 weeks later it is done. They lent me a loner as I was missing class after they flubbed up but very begrudgingly and seemed more concerned about its return. A really disappointing experience. read more

Be careful on the rental program. We had a instrument and had occurred enough rental credit towards the item we wanted to purchase. However, they said they couldn't sell it to us because our credit was .35 cents more than the selling price. No where in our agreement could I find this term and condition. This forced us to getting a more expensive instrument that we didn't want as much. read more

UPDATE: David and Diane retired this past summer, and ABI is now owned and operated by Music & Arts, the Maryland-based music chain. I haven't gone up to visit the shop since the change, but when I have time I hope to see good things. I used to go here for all my woodwind/brass instrument needs, and so did most of my private students. The staff was highly trained, exceptionally knowledgeable about their products, and most importantly did their part to educate parents and students about their purchases. As a teacher, I could trust them not to shove expensive, unnecessary, junk on my students. Their turnaround time on repairs was excellent, and many times they took care of minor fixes on-the-spot and at no charge. Let me start by saying that the person in the shop was courteous and respectful, so 5 stars for that. But lying is the one thing I hate. When I rented viola I was told by the guy behind the desk that the rental money which I will accrue can be used at the end of the contract to buy any instrument in the shop, and I said that's awesome I want to buy drums. Now I called customer care to return the viola and they say oh you can only buy instruments which are used in orchestra. I said fine I have a accrued $450 and I will buy some thing for that. I called customer service twice to return but they didn't help me so now I went to the store. In the store now the guy says that I have to buy instrument which is equal to the cost of the rental viola which is $800 or above and, I can only buy viola or violin. Again the contract changed because the third person is telling me something different. I asked him that I was not told about this and if I would've known about that then I would have rented a cheaper model, why would I rent $1000 model when I know I'm never going to accrue that much money, he didn't have any answer to that. Moreover, it's not me who chose the viola while renting, I was given by the store personnel, so they could have given me cheaper model. So I just wasted my $450 hard earned money working as a front line personnel but for them it's just business. So I advise every parent who's kid is going to school that don't rent any instrument until your kid is going to become a legend otherwise just buy a cheap instrument from Walmart like everybody else so you don't waste your hard earned money on business run by liars and thief's...very disappointed... read more

Never go here. They do not honor their promise. I had two years worth of purchase credit from a rental and they would not let me use it. Returned the rental in June and said I would be back in August to get a new instrument and use my credit. They gave me a price and said see you then. When I come back in August they tell me that it's past the 30 day window!!! WTF! They just lost a good customer. Drove straight over to Mo's Music Center in Fullerton and gave them my money, and actually ended up paying less! Support local businesses not chains like Music and Arts! read more

They should have different lines: One for rental and one for Purchase Only since purchase takes alot less time to process compared to rental with all the paperworks. People complaining about the wait time to purchase an item aren't stating that they are coming into the store 15-20 mins before they close. Take in mind the time in which you come in since school is back in session and all kids are getting their instruments, wait times make sense. However, Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, Guitar Center and all the other stores I checked online were sold out! ABI is the best instrument store for your needs. We have bought Flute and Trumpets here. Drove almost 40 miles to get there to fix instruments and its worth it. Wish they were closer. We will be driving there again this week for the second time to pick up fixed instrument. read more
