Despite clearly communicating that I was a beginner, she assigned me advanced pieces -- including Bach's Prelude -- and told me I was "too old" to be playing beginner songs. This was not only discouraging but completely disregarded where I actually was in my learning journey. I also reached out to let her know I was going through a period of grief and needed a more supportive, stress-free approach to learning. To top it off, she sent -- and then quickly unsent -- a message implying our lessons wouldn't continue, because her teaching style was "too fast" for me and suggested I find another teacher. Beware: the contract includes a no-refund policy, so getting your money back is not an option once you've paid. A good instructor meets students where they are, adapts to their needs, and treats them with respect regardless of age or pace. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of those basic standards. ----- Thank you for your response, Vivian. I want to clarify that you were my 2nd instructor, not my 3rd. I also want to be transparent with readers: I had openly communicated that I was going through a period of grief and asked for a gentler approach to learning. I believe that is a reasonable request, not an "over the top" or "childish" one. As a teacher, meeting students with empathy -- especially during difficult times -- is a fundamental part of the role. Assigning advanced pieces to a self-identified beginner, collecting $450 upfront, and then canceling lessons without offering a refund are practices that potential students deserve to know about. I stand by my review. Every word reflects my honest experience. I am genuinely grateful our lessons ended when they did -- it protected both my peace and my hard-earned money. They didn't always start promptly and they were usually in tiny, hot rooms big enough for one small folding chair (plus instrument and standing student with teacher). We tried it out for a couple months and it was not for us. When canceling, they assured me it would be okay, but of course they continued to charge us the following months. I called, and again no return messages. I called again, spoke to someone and they said James would call me back, but not a word since two weeks ago. I had to dispute the charges with my card, but save yourself the effort I went through and seek lessons elsewhere.

The store is located inside of a business complex, easy to find and plenty of parking. I brought my cello to Patrick and he was warm, knowledgeable, honest, and gave me options because of my limited budget. He made his recommendations and I was able to tell him parts I wanted to keep even though it wasn't ideal to keep them; he made it work and understood I had sentimental values. He respected my wishes. I came in feeling out of depth, really haven't played for so long and not feeling confident at all handling a cello. Patrick never made me feel less or unimportant. Estimated time was about a month but Patrick contacted me after 2 weeks that it was done. I picked up the newly restored cello today and it was so beautiful and the sound made me wanted to cry. Thank you, Patrick, for your wonderful handiwork. Thank you for being so easy to talk to and work with.
