Power.... Beauty....Freedom, captured in nine larger than life bronze statues of wild Mustangs galloping across a stream. It is a must see! Beautifully sculpted with correct anatomy and striking composition, it is an inspiration for all artists and horse lovers alike. We had lunch at a hip little restaurant called the Cork and Pig Tavern opposite the road and had a beautiful view of the Mustangs from our table.

The Mustangs of Las Colinas are a work of art commissioned by African Wildlife Artist Robert Glen. The sculpture consists of 9 mustangs galloping thru a granite stream in front of Williams Square. The fountains spraying up from the feet bring the statue to life by giving the appearance that the mustangs are actively stepping through the water right in front of you. The history of the statues is as interesting as the statues themselves. In the late sixties and seventies, rancher and businessman Ben Carpenter was converting his family ranch from a ranch to a mixed use business and residential center that would become Las Colinas. Carpenter wanted a focal point for his new development and he wanted to artistically express Texas' natural untamed past. Just like for the Las Colinas area, Carpenter had a vision of what he wanted and now just needed an artist that could execute that vision, and thus he found Robert Glen. Glen worked for 8 years to create what is visible for free today. It is a sight to behold any time of the day, as it takes on a new personality as the day and lighting changes.

A fabulous depiction of Wild Mustangs. This is a must see if you are ever in the Las Colinas area. Located very close to the Omni Mandalay hotel this is a nice place to relax and unwind...especially in the evening. This sculpture was dedicated in 1984 and created by Robert Glen and there is even a nice background note about the artist and sculpture on site. Great photo opportunities and set in a beautiful office park. A must see if ever in the Irving area!

    Beautiful part of the sculpture

The Mustangs is a beautiful sculpture that is a must see for anyone visiting Dallas for the first time. It is located only 10 to 15 minutes away from DFW airport. There is free parking right in front of the sculpture. It's just a quick little trip but represents a segment of the wonderful Texas culture and history. Children love seeing these large mustangs that appear to be running through the streams. Behind the Williams Square granite sign, is a wonderfully written description of the sculpture and how it represents Texas and it's history and Texas spirit. The sculpture is very easy to get to and there are restaurants, neighborhoods and office buildings located close by. The area is very clean and safe. This exhibit represents among many things, "men riding free on free land."

Purchasing tickets online was simple and let me choose the exact date and time I wanted to visit. Check in was quick with the email confirmation. The museum itself was very clean and I constantly saw employees wiping down and tidying exhibits. Some of the illusions were tricky to figure out at first, but the placards on the walls explained everything really well. The staff was also super helpful and happy to show guests the best angles for photos. Emma was especially amazing at helping frame pictures and making sure we got good shots inside the exhibits. One exhibit featured a spinning tunnel that was tough for me because of equilibrium issues, so keep that in mind if you are sensitive to motion effects. This is a quick and entertaining side quest while downtown. It took us about an hour and fifteen minutes to experience everything.Theres no rush and you move at your own pace. I would definitely come back again.

Employees were very attentive when asking if we wanted to get a photo, which is great. There was even one employee who was cleaning one of the mirror illusions, but stopped and took the time to explain how the illusion worked for us. I wish I had gotten his name, because he was an awesome employee. My main gripe, as stated previously, was that the museum was smaller than we thought. It took us 30 minutes to get through all the illusions, and for the price point to enter, just didn't seem worth it in comparison. I'm glad I went, I just probably won't go back for a while. I did get some nice photos.

So, there are different sections and you lay according to what you want to do which, I think, is ridiculous! But we tried them all! We expected about 90 minutes based on the website information and ended up there for 3 hours! Obviously they have a gift shop but very unique and popular where kids line up is the hand wax molding they do. Kids love it as they dip their hands in wax and the employees are very skilled at doing them. Keep in mind, we came with no kids, just 4 adults and it was, not only, interesting, but quite fun! In order of my favorites: By far the "moving theater" was exhilaration and fun. You sit in simulators with 3 D glasses on and have attached hand guns you use like in an arcade. Object is to shoot as many werewolf's as possible for points and the one with most points wins. The guy heading it was also helpful as well as fun and even offered to take a group photo for us. The chairs move and fans blow wind, it was my favorite! -House of Fear- another excellent experience, you walk through and see different types of menacing creatures typically found in horror flicks, very fun and somewhat interactive as you walk through, loved it -wax museum was next fave, so cool all the genres and time pieces, they weren't too lifelike but close enough to be amazed! -the regular Ripley's museum takes the longest only because so so many things to read about, the displays had very bizarre things and people, a little on the twisted side. -my least favorite was the house of mirrors. I just didn't like it, I went in and quickly turned around only to exit out of the entrance! All in all, a very fun experience, it wasn't too crowded at all and they were a bit understaffed, but a nice experience for the family

There's a parking garage within walking distance to the museum and you pay before you leave. We had an absolute blast especially our son. You will learn the extreme lengths Michelangelo went to over 4 years to create these paintings. You will see up close the fine detail and will learn where Michelangelo's self portrait is and why he portrays himself this way. Do NOT SKIP the audio device. I bought a VIP package, and the clerk only gave me the option to scan a bar code and listen on my cell. I did not being ear buds so this was a waste to me. Later, as the exhibit got busier, I saw the audio devices, so that was annoying that I wasn't given that option. Finally, the paintings followed a good flow but the informational panels and accompanying audio are numbered and the numbers do not match the flow. The hand held devices could simply scan in. I had to scroll through a website. I also did not like the lighting. While this is a temporary exhibit, the lighting could have been improved. I was not impressed with the exposed extension cords. Each exhibit had a stand alone light fixture, and most of the cord was tucked away. But the plugs were exposed. Finally the light itself was harsh. It looked good on the wall, but was glaring when you needed to read the informational panel. I bought a book for $12 at the end. It essentially shows each panel separately and contains the same information as the wall description. I would have loved to have this in my hand while walking through. Finally, don't miss the video presentations. I do recommend this exhibit. If they would spend a little extra effort, I would make it a high recommend.
