One thing to be aware of before you come here is that this is not a resale shop or a thrift store. Everything here is new. You'll find shoes, candles, jewelry, figurines, kitchen items, linens, women's clothing, body products, and numerous gift ideas. It's a great place to check out, but everything is at full retail. Even the cute older kitchen had it's own theme! As well as the bathroom, which was covered with all the different scents made by poo pourri. All types of merchandise are offered like purses, jewelry, candles, clothes, kitchen items, tons of accessories, all unique in their own way. One of my favorites were the ReWined candles (reused wine bottles turned into scented candles that smell like wine). As well as the Vinrella, which is an umbrella that looks like a wine bottle when not open. If you happen to be in or around Giddings, this is a real treat and a great place to find unique gifts.

The owner Marla is one of the friendliest shop owners in town. Seriously. Sometimes these small towns aren't the most welcoming to city peeps, especially those who "look" different, but Marla always gives you a warm welcome and pours a nice glass of Champs to enjoy while you shop. It's a tiny shop that houses clothing and accessories, like Chanel, Fendi, and Gucci. If you're a #labelwhore, you'll fit right in. This is a place that tells the stories of a collection of magical, mysterious, amusing old-fashioned as was as modern luxury goods. They describe their items as a blend of the obscure with the uncommon...100% agree!! Every single item is hand selected...yes, hand picked! For this particular story/collection...they had items like the most amazing beautifully scented soaps... my FAV was the Spanish Anise Goat Milk Soap...so fragrant and yummy! They have, specialty leather goods, vintage goods, handmade ceramics, books, postcards, jewelry, they have the most amazing jars of honey, bottled root beer, tinctures + spray, one of a kind chairs, lamps, baskets, t-shirts, incense, ponchos, pants, flowing vintage dresses, soft soft cashmere and the list of amazing and truly special items goes on and on. I purchased a variety of items, so many favorite things here!! Another one of my favourite things was the Rain Water! I am a fanatic about drinking water and let me tell you this water was simply wet and pure and is a MUST HAVE! The amount of time and effort these people put into picking each and every item is personal and real! I learned from one of the owners that they travel to each and every place to personally meet the people who make their items. On Friday, November 11th, I flew to Texas from LA just to attend their sneak preview that happened at Midnight and it was just incredible!!! I thought they might get a few people in for this opening...well to my surprise there were like 50-60 people there shopping until 2:45am! I was also surprised to learn how many people from the LA area go to Smithville on a regular basis for weekends away etc. This sweet and amazing place, Midnight Monkey Mercantile, is located in a recently renovated brick building, built circa 1910 on historic 2nd street in quaint, charming Smithville, Texas! Which is also the home of the chick-flick favorite, HOPE FLOATS!! If you have a chance, Go Visit... you won't be disappointed!
