Fun interactive experience with the kid and I don't want to give anything away with pictures after the first room although I'm sure others have already posted them. We opted to get one of the blasters to shoot targets for things to move and hear. If it would have been a little less crowded when we got in it would have been better. Other visitors that we caught up to were pretty involved in themselves and made people wait for them to finish taking their pictures every 5 steps. The museum staff does try to regulate the amount of people but unfortunately they can't really go in and tell people to move it along. I think it maybe a little overpriced but it was fun and I like to support small businesses. When you're done with the museum the stores are fun to check out and they have all sorts of things if you're interested in horror movies and macabre things. read more

I love stopping at this place every time I'm in Burbank. It's a museum and a shop all in one, they sell lots of different little oddities and horror movie memorabilia. It's fits in well with the little horror theme that Burbank has going on. Even if you don't decide to pay admission and view the museum yourself the shop is fun to walk around and check out. The Mystic Museum has been our radar for a long time! Wifey and I frequently go to Burbank, so whenever we passed it by we've always been curious about it. We finally felt adventurous and made a beeline straight to the museum! Located in Burbank's Horror Row, there's plenty of street parking all around so don't fret if you can't find a spot directly in front. The Mystic Museum looks deceptively small on the outside, but inside it's surprisingly large! They have all things horror and odd on display, with plenty of merch and goodies to buy if you want a souvenir. They also have some photo ops inside, but most of them are in the paid exhibit section in the back. They periodically change up their exhibits, so it's worth keeping an eye on what's current and coming back. We went during their Total Grotesque Live exhibit, a tribute to horror movies ala Total Request Live (back when MTV showed music videos, for those too young to have enjoyed growing up in the 90s/early 2000s). The exhibits are not timed, so you can take your time and fill your guts with as many photos/videos as you want! Some displays are interactive if you pay a little more for the key to activate them. Overall, The Mystic Museum is plenty of fun if you're into horror and want to satiate your goth urges. Even if you don't pay for the exhibits, there's still plenty to see. The employees are friendly and will lock your bags for you if you go to the exhibits. The price of some of the items for sale can be hella expensive, but it all depends on what catches your eye. If you've never been here before, make it a point to go! Life's too short to always be wondering and never knowing! read more

This is a different spot to cost in Burbank. It is building with 3 separate areas with different things in each one. One has movie items and postings. One has scary doctor and scientist items. And the last is a museum with a tarot card reading spot. Behind these are a museum. We only got a couple of pins and some old spooky records. I've heard about this place forever and I finally stopped in. There is so much to discover in the shop! This would be a great place to buy a gift for the horror fans in your life. I also got the chance to check out the museum and it was such a unique experience. I loved all of the photo ops and how interactive the displays are. If you pay an additional amount, you can get a key that actually activates some of the displays which is cool! The museum is not super big, so you can really take as long or as little time as you want going through it. The person who was at the shop on the day I went was super friendly and answered all of my questions happily. I would recommend checking out the Mystic Museum if you are in the Magnolia Park area! We checked out the new exhibit Total Grotesque Live (grand opening this past weekend). You enter the museum store, buy tickets at the register, and the exhibit entrance is located at the back of the shop (the worker monitors entry one party at a time). Staff provided great service, swiftly helping us with our transaction, and explaining the rules and how things work. Coming on a Monday, it wasn't crowded or uncomfortable, so we got to fully enjoy our experience here, especially since the sets in the museum were made with quality decor and props. With ten interactive horror scenes, it was worth the extra eight bucks to get the plastic knife that allowed us to stab certain points of the exhibits to activate sound and visual effects, a bit of animatronics too. My fave was the Conjuring set filled with haunted objects and the creepy Nun painting with its evil eyes. This particular display had multiple activations, one which made the Annabelle doll temporarily disappear from the case in the haunted room. Loved the iconic music of classic horror flicks adding to the vibe and excitement, like the Michael Myers Halloween theme song. We ended in the seance parlor filled with ouija boards, fortune teller machines, and more (I believe this is a temporary exhibition as well, but l'm not totally sure). That's what's cool about this place, they change up the immersive exhibits and hold fun little events occasionally, so you can return time and time again to experience something new. Note, no bags/purses are allowed in the museum but they can hold it for you at the store's ticket counter for free. I wouldn't say this place offers the best value for admission since you can get through all of the exhibits fairly quickly and it's not as entertaining if you're not into selfies or IG. We still enjoyed our time here though. read more

My friend recommended we stop in here before heading to lunch. The place is very nerdy horror fan paradise. The store front has plenty of cool macabre merchandise, much of it vintage. The staff could not be nicer- great to chat with. Lots of people were visiting when we were. So, it does never busy. We bought tickets to the museum and were VIP escorted to the back and through a secret entrance. Our tour began with spine tingling anticipation. I half expected things to jump out at us, but this was happily a unique experience. To quote: You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. Your next stop, the Twilight Zone!" The mazes do indeed present a ton of trivia and activities. We enjoyed not only the experience, but the amount of painstaking work to create a very fun experience for horror movie fans. If you're in Burbank and this is your jam, you need to stop in. I have passed this place so many times and am sorry I didn't have time to drop in before. It's worth the time. I am only posting a few pics, so as not to soil the fun of discovering it yourself. This place has been forever on my list of places to go to. I have no excuse for how long it's taken me to make my way over there. Once I heard about their installation TLC, I had to attend. I arrived and parked about a block away in a residential area. I stood in line to scan my tickers and pay for the interactive knife for the displays. Honestly hands down one of the best horror museums I have ever seen. Not only is this a museum but they also have a shop with a variety of different horror merch. In the museum there is a lot of photo ops and interactive displays. Its a fun time and a great walkthrough. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I came to this place from tiktok and it's a little misleading. While I did have a good experience. I wouldn't really call this place a museum. I kind of left disappointed because I went in having high expectations. Overall though, it was a good experience. I would say that the total cost of everything wasn't worth it. So you pay $20 for the entrance fee and you can pay extra for an interactive knife. To be honest the experience without the knife would've been dull. I'll just get straight to the point. For anyone that is reading this review, the "mystic museum" is NOT a museum. It's about 4-5 different rooms of horror props with a promised "interactive experience", except most of the interactive experiences either didn't work or were incredibly lame. So, technically you're really just walking around and taking pictures... for $20. LOL. I mean I paid $15 the day I went which was still overpriced if you ask me. I'm not sure why the owners won't take the "museum" part out of the name because it's pretty misleading. When I heard Los Angeles had a "horror museum" I was pretty thrilled as that would've been amazing to get a chance to learn about the history of some of my favorite horror icons along with their respective movies. Instead, I was met with different rooms that boasted nothing more than cheesy, cheap, outdated props. Btw, the theme was "horror high" but the real horror was how every room just kept falling flat. It was funny because as I was walking through that sad little place, I just kept imagining what I would've done to make it nicer. Maybe y'all should've hired me cause that place is empty for a reason The only people I can see this place appealing to is kids under 14. If this was harsh, good! The Mystic Museum store is a great place to shop for an unusual gift - they have creepy relics like animal bones and Victorian death tintypes, as well as brand-new merchandise: horror movie themed wares and generically spooky items like incense, crystals, candles. There are three parts to the shop: Camp Horror, the main vintage showroom, and a little room with mostly paganesque new items. With the addition of the licensed items, I'd say they have a bigger selection than Necromance and certainly Momento Mori, if you patronise L.A.'s other thana shops. The special exhibits are always worth admission price if you're a fan of the theme. I've been to The Shining, Addams Family/Munsters, Camp Horror, Slashback Video, and '90s Slashers - they were all fun. While I don't think I'd pay just for a non-themed museum ticket, you can usually spot some of their permanent fixtures and items mixed in with the feature. read more

This is a simplistic fun break from the daily humdrum if you are a horror fan. Lots of fun items in the apothecary for novice witches only. Spooky museum and dark oddities shop with delightful horror merchandise, vintage ouija boards, crystals, beautiful taxidermy and stunning decor. It's a goth and horror lovers dream here. I had to bite my hand to keep from purchasing anything this time. They had a great horror camp clothing display, ghost face fortune teller box, tales from the crypt guy on display. They had so many amazing vintage photographs and seance memorabilia for sale. It reminded me of a similar place called Ghoulish delights in the valley. Saw videos of the museum on TikTok. I had to add it to my itinerary for my LA trip. My aunt and I did the photo opp within the museum. They have you an interactive card to use inside. If you love teen slasher movies this was definitely a cool spot for pics. I wish there was a staff member to join and help with pics or even a phone stand would be nice. I usually love this museum. The 90s slasher was so much fun! However, I recently went about a week ago and the prices have gone up significantly, 40 for 2 people. I don't think the two rooms are worth the price, considering many of the interactive elements were not even working. When I approached the worker about the issue he stated the pencil must be slowly moved up and down. I asked a couple of people in front of me and they had the same issue. The mirror and the first 2 don't work. He also stated they've been working on fixing it. Definitely passing on the next theme, super bummed. read more

The store was interesting with many different oddities and novelty items. I will definitely be back. However, it shines with its exhibit. The "Total Grotesque Live" exhibit was fantastic! It's definitely worth the $8 activation knife. It's eight rooms decorated to the hilt to match scenes from some of our collective favorite horror films. It was the highlight of my horror day out with my family. It's impressive for a small outfit like the museum to get it so right, but keep your expectations reasonable. I've been here a couple of times in the past two years, the selection of oddities and horror themed goodies are an absolute treat! I'm happy to say that I've even adopted a couple of pieces for my personal collection that I adore and cherish. Staff has always been really kind, and I always left smiling. However this last experience left me with a little bit of a yucky taste in my mouth. I'd visited the museum previously and had been really excited to take my partner as the last time I went (high school reunion) the sets and photo opportunities were so whimsical and cheeky!! We even payed extra for the knife to get the interactive stuff because I remembered how fun it was for me in the past. I was really excited to check out the new exhibits. Don't get me wrong the new stuff is gorgeous and you can tell a lot of work went into it, I really liked the conjuring section, but the soul felt missing. The thing that really ruined it for me was the use of AI in some of the sets. I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt that perhaps the owners just aren't aware of the damage that comes with AI, and I'm hoping maybe with this review they will take a step back and look into it. But in a city where talent is behind every door it's a pity to cut corners like that instead of hiring an extra local artist to help bring the vision to life and instead tossing the small details to a machine. I'm sure a lot of horror fans will agree with me when I say that horror and AI should never go hand in hand, it takes away from what makes it so charming. The small details were what brought so much magic to the last exhibit in my opinion. It just left me heartbroken and ruined the entire experience for me, I wish I spent that money on literally anything else, the tickets are not cheap lol. We visited on Super Bowl Sunday morning to check out the 90's slasher exhibit before it disappears the weekend after. Parking was free around the street / neighborhood. Restrooms are not available inside the museum or in the nearby small shops so plan accordingly. It is free to walk into the main entrance of Mystic Museum which is a large store filled with spooky goods. It's a museum in itself to explore all the random cute and creepy items for sale. You'll find clothing, accessories, magnets, pins, bags, decor, stickers, cosmetics, bagged coffee and much more. To enter the actual exhibit will cost you. Buy tickets at the register since they're not available online then someone will let you in. The 90's slasher exhibit was really cool! It was interactive, so we were able to hold onto objects (like the landline telephone & knife) to really put yourself into the scene for a unique photo op. My favorites were the Scream film kitchen and living room area! I thought it was awesome to be shown on the old school TV. This isn't a jump scare Halloween maze type of place, but you can pay extra to have the experience more interactive. Although the exhibit is small, it was fun to explore and take fun photos. We took about 20 minutes inside. Only 2-4 other people were inside the exhibit at the same time so I never felt rushed or felt that I had to wait. This was our first time at Mystic Museum but definitely will come back to check out future exhibits! read more

If you are a horror fan, oddities lover, or witchy bitch, you will love Mystic Museum! I consider myself all of the above, so it's one of my favorite places -- especially in Burbank. They have one side of the shop that's retail with gothy merchandise from KillStar, tarot cards, candles, apparel, etc. And then the other side has more of the medical oddities, taxidermy, witchy supplies, etc. They recently expanded as well and took over another storefront, which has all of the Camp Horror merchandise. There's so much good stuff here! I often shop for myself and friends here. I love that they have an old Zoltar machine. They sometimes dress it up in something horror related. They also often have a Tarot reader, which is fun. As for the museum, it's more like an experience really. They used to have more of a permanent exhibit of antique occult items like old ouija boards and an exorcism kit. But now they do rotating interactive exhibits. You can tell the whole business really is a labor of love and that the owners truly love horror and the occult because of the amount of thought and detail put into both the store and the museum. I've been to both the Evil Dead and 90s Slasher exhibits and I had so much fun at both. Yes the museum is small (depending on how long you spend taking photos and interacting with the exhibits, it might take you 20 minutes to an hour), but if you love horror movies, it's a real treat to go through the exhibits. Everything is super photogenic and Insta-friendly. They have recreations of sets and scenes from films. Actual props in some cases. And the interactive bits are a cool novelty that really adds to the experience. I loved "stabbing" things to see the interactive stuff for 90s slasher. My only complaint with the interactive stuff is that they don't always tell you where all the interactive stuff is (which with 90s slasher was for a specific reason if I remember correctly) but if they're going to charge extra for it, you should really be guaranteed the experience of what you've just paid for. Overall, Mystic Museum is a really unique place that's a valuable part of the Magnolia Park area and one of the reasons I really love living in Burbank. This place was really cool. If you are a fan of horror movies, oddities, or anything gothic I definitely recommend at least giving this place a visit. There were plenty of workers and they were all nice, so don't be afraid to ask them for help. They have a lot of souvenirs and oddities, a lot of the time I couldn't even tell what was for sale and what wasn't. Prices vary, they have small items and some big ones that are decently expensive. They do have a VIP experience, and this was the only downside to me, it just felt a little overpriced for what you get out of it, but others might not feel the same. read more

Wow, this is a truly unique store. In many ways it's very hard to describe this shop. What they have is a whole lot of very unique and very interesting items that you will find nowhere else. This store has all kinds of great visual items to look at. But, more than that, they also have a great selection of books and items that people who are seeking information and a connection to the other realm will find exceedingly important. On the lighter side, the shop also offers some fun T-shirts, hats, floor mats, and things along that line. So, you don't have to come into this shop expecting that all you'll see are things leading to the nether realm. This review is specifically for their Lost Toys Exhibit, which was at a different location but close to the original museum. I believe the Lost Toys Exhibit is no longer active, so my partner and I are glad that we got to visit it before it closed down. We actually stumbled upon the exhibit randomly as we were taking a walk around the area. Being pop culture and toy fans, we decided to check it out. The museum is quite small, but there is so much to see. There is a lot of memorabilia, ranging from vintage toys, posters, sculptures, and more. Also, their merch was awesome! As a local who has always been drawn to the unique, the macabre, and something a bit more in tune with my elements I tend to venture into the amazingly immersive museum, I would say a gift shoppe with extra exhibits ! The attention today details and the dedication of staff to keep horror alive here always gets me going during this time of year. Usually it can get busy, as someone who loves to enjoy their weekends, I tend to look and keep looking for new and curious things from preserved specimens in taxidermy to ,xray photos and the like! I also love the little vintage museum little quarter machines or the claw machines/ horror themed fortune teller! I am much of an experience girlie who loves to document everything and in the past year as a local there is a variety of selection including some movie promotional items! The value varies but with this level of quality and how many small artists also joined to collaborate on this amazing store i am honestly shook!
