I'm writing this one because of another encounter I had with this manager, the manager ken is petty, good for nothing, pain in the behind. when I say petty, I mean over a year ago one of the workers blew smoke in my face and I pushed him away. and I guess that was my fault, when I say this place is a trash hole I mean it. you can't even have a tad bit of privacy in the bathroom because odds are some one is smoking or puffing something in your face, overall, this place is so unbelievably discussing and bad costumer service, I do not recommend this place if you are a happy person or have some type of decency. read more

The rink was super sketchy in a run down building. The employees where miserable and where never available to help. I waited for 30 minutes to get a pair of roller blades. I have skated my whole life and played hockey on steam for 4 years and never such horrible roller blades. For a small drink it was 7 dollars! My skates felt like there were rocks inside and needles poking my feet. I reffed hockey and 12 games to ref the next day and I was in extreme pain. The skates wouldn't tighten because of the buckles that were broken. The bathrooms weren't clean at all with poop in the sink. This place was honestly a dump and don't recommend coming here and whatever you do don't rent their crappy skates! read more

Sadly, the DJ plays the same set of music every time I've been on either a Friday or Saturday night. One time I brought my own head phones but their music was too loud for me to hear mine. They should be using Spotify to allow guests to recommend songs. None of the songs (believe me I gave a variety of options/genres) I requested were played because a certain software was being used and could only pull from songs they had in it. 2017-10-22. The New Rink is located in Shelby Twp, MI. It has it's own parking lot with literally hundreds of parking spaces. Last known as Maxx Play, the 90K sq. ft. facility was also the former home for a plethora of businesses that failed the test of time. From bounce castles, to paintball, to Whirlyball before it. The place was shut down in 2009's and it sat empty for a couple of years. In 2011, the new owners refurbished and renovated, and reopened as The New Rink Roller Sports Complex. Some of the original decor remained, the original entrance, the wood floor skating area, and those globe chandeliers. And with the vast space, they were able to maintain most of the original businesses. In addition to the rink, A separate section with bounce houses remained, as well as a separate section for an arcade. There was also a closed off section I wasn't quite able to see, but it looked like another rink (Roller Hockey? Private party?). And, of course, facilities for parties, complete with a snack bar. Lastly, there is a pro shop to cover all sorts of repairs and carries items for you to purchase. But the reason why I'm writing about this place is simply because it exists. With a bowling alley up the street, two trampoline parks and a rock climbing gym nearby, and a laser tag facility down the street, this rink rounds out activities nicely for the area. During the summer, they have admission specials and skate programs to help occupy our kids and getting in some physical activity to boot! 4 stars overall. For those of you wondering, I think the Paint Ball business is still there. I didn't see an entrance from the inside, so I'm assuming it's only accessible from the plaza. I have been bringing my kids to the 10 AM Saturday rollers and strollers session. In the beginning I thought it was pretty cool that they allow the parents on the floor without skates to assist your children and push babies around in strollers. But lately it is turning into a free-for-all with no safety supervision at all. I have seen oarents skating around holding small children. And for some crazy reason they allow kids on the floor without skates to just run around the floor. This is a safety issue and for me this is a Roller Rink and this is where you learn to rollerskate. It is not a playground. That is what the bounce house is for. I brought this up with management but nobody seems to think it's a big deal. So when my grandkids become a little bit better skating I will definitely ditch this Roller Rink for another rink that actually cares about the safety of their customers read more

This place was super sketchy. The parking lot was really dark and this building was set back toward the end of the property. When you go inside it's super weird you have to be buzzed in, after you pay.. anyone who entered had to pay $10 so even if you're taking your kids and not skating you still have to pay.. . It's like a old club from the 90's lots of painted plywood.. the skating rink is kind of wild, I did not see any monitors or anyone who worked there keeping things under control, tons of kids, really small kids kind of jamming up traffic, adults skating wild, teens doing tricks, it's kind of just a wild free for all.. my daughter was knocked down by a older kid skating at a high rate of speed .. it's pretty run down and very low budget, almost Erie. I haven't been to many skating rinks recently but I just don't think this is one I'd frequent. They need to get the rink under control so it's safe and fun for all and do some updates. read more

I went to The Rink when I was a kid. My daughter turned 5 years old. She roller skates in the house every day. She wanted a roller skating birthday party. And that she had. It was a breathe of fresh air. An old fashioned birthday party. Lily was the party assistant. She was great. Pizza, salad, cake & ice cream. She was great, the kids had a blast. The rink is actually quite nice, nice arcade, what seems like a decent snack bar (did not eat there). Good amount of tables and space. The biggest problem was their traditional roller skates. They actually handed me a pair where I could stick 4 fingers through the toe of each skate. I said "are you kidding me? try again" Then he gave me a pair where the ankle areas had 2 inch open rips. The 3rd pair had no toe stop on one skate. Owners: You REALLY need to replace your inventory of traditional skates. They are garbage. Can't believe you would actually hand them out. read more

We took our 2 girls here a couple months ago, for a family skate night since they got roller skates for their birthdays. It was our 1st time there & it reminded me of the skate rink I used to goto when I was young. We all had a blast until I ended up falling breaking my fibula & tearing ligaments. I have to say the staff was so nice to me. A gentleman rolled out a chair for me since I couldn't walk. Then a nice gal brought me a bag of ice and a milk crate to elevate it. I've been to this place several times. It's always been an a good place to enjoy. Today was not! I hosted a party and it was horrible. Let me Start by saying THE WORST experience ever. An infested place with hundreds of young kids under 18 not wearing masks. Vaping in bathrooms and just about having sex in bathrooms. Boys in girls bathrooms. Girls in boys bathrooms and it wasn't as if they were using them it was a hook up joint.... I booked the party online and then spoke to a person named Ken to confirm my party. I asked about a private party and he said that on Friday's it open skate but the Detroit room and bounce house will be a private area For your party ONLY... this Was confirmed with KEN couple times before my party. The day of. I was told I can arrive at 6:30 to set up they didn't open the doors until sometime after 645pm my party was at 700pm. We had a Host (who was Great) she told me to keep the doors close so no one enters your party area.we did that but then the little kids starting hitting them selves with the door opening and closing it hurting there fingers ( it wasn't safe to have it closed). After about 45 mins into the party random people start coming in. When I went and told the manager(Ken) he says yeah we are letting random people in here to bounce if you want that room I can kick everyone out and charge you the $700 plus The food you've ordered. Then the bill came they over charged me for everything. They charged me for my party package that included my 10 guests then he charged me again for the same adult admission twice. And my favorite part I bought extra time for bouncing he tried charging me again for the same bouncers... he added extra skates for my party people and I already purchased all that ahead of time. Basically he tried to over charge me 300 dollars More then we discussed. And when I go in there to Correct the issue he was finding ways to convince Me I wasn't getting over charged making excuses for all the extra charges.... Finally after all the lies he blabbed he supposedly mis Read and the computer made The Error of $323 overcharge.... when he found out the health department is going to be involved he tried to give me free Skate LMAOoooo.... be smart read the reviews. Manager is horrible at this place. Don't expect any customer service. Their intention is not in the safety of the kids nor for the kids to have fun. All they want is your money. $10 for skate mate but if you left it for someone else to take, it's your lost. The place is a dump. Filthy and no one cares about keeping it clean. We brought our own skates but somehow got charged for $5 skates each. The staffs job is to ensure everyone is paying for everything there is to make it an enjoyable experience. There's no focus on anything else. You want to bring a grandparent in to watch the kids, we'll pay the $10 entry fee. You ask for any help, you might as sneak over $20 before you ask the question. Pretty much if you want your kids to have a good time, just be ready to send in a lot of money but don't expect service or anyone to keep the place clean. It's called "the New Rink" because it's sopposedly newly redecorated. I think whomever redecorated it needs to find a new job! Typical skate rink decor. Not very bright, 1980's feel along with the dirt! The thee times I have been there in the past two months, the staff has been unfriendly, unapproachable. The place seemed to lack rules. Taking my children on a all night valentines skate, I noted a lot of parents dropping and leaving their young children for the evening with no adult supervision. I found myself controlling other peoples kids as they ran around wildly in and out of the tables and halls at the rink and playing jokes on other kids. No staff was in the area for the two hours i sat at one of the 8 tables provided to sit at. I was so afraid some one would get hurt! I asked one child his age and he replied 12! It was 11:00pm at night, no parents, thus no rules! The snack counter is even worse! Over priced and I'd rather eat food being served at a garage sale! My daughter has a new found hobby of skating, but if I can help it, I am willing to drive totally out of my way just to go another place that isn't such "junk"! Ps. The bathrooms are hideous! Dirty and the stall doors do not lock in either the boys or girls bathroom! read more

Went to a birthday party. There were many parties going on at the same time. The place was packed. The tables were clean but the rest of the place had a sort of run down vibe. It needs a pick me up or something. The carpeting and making it brighter would help a lot. Even the video games were dated. There appears to be a sports bar in the bouncy area? Odd. The rink had a couple of bubble gum spots on it. Shouldn't someone clean those? They weren't fresh so they've been awaiting cleaning for a while now. Overall though I manged to have a nice time because it was a birthday party. But without the birthday party I wonder just how much fun would be had. read more

A decent enough place. Came here for a recent roller derby thingamabob (match? bout? whatever...) that was going on since we'd had them on our show and it was Star Wars themed and all. However, this isn't a review about the roller derby...but the venue. - Beer: available, and relatively inexpensive. - Staff: friendly - Bathrooms: clean - Seating: bleachers, for the most part, but still decent enough. - Miscellaneous: They had bounce houses inflated and running, so that's a good distraction for the kids. It's the rink. Same as it was 30 years ago in many ways. They have made some updates of course including adding a whole new wing to the building several years ago. The new wing houses a hockey rink, party rooms, and game room. The kids sure get a kick out of coming here once in a while. And it brings back lots of memories. WORST PLACE TO HAVE A BIRTHDAY PARTY! AVOID AT ALL COST!!! Rating this place a 1 star is giving it too high of a review, it really needs to be a zero. We had our daughters birthday party here over the weekend and it was an epic disappointment. The place is literally run by teenagers and 3 adults (the "manager", a DJ, and a rink referee). There was no organization on how the party would run, our hostess was a teenager that was more interested in talking with the other teenage workers than doing her job. They had several other birthday parties going on at the same time, in the same room, so it was chaos. The "pizza" was the worst pizza I've ever had for $13 each. it was 96% crust, 2% "sauce", and 2% cheese and pepperoni. They're frozen pizzas and they just heat them up in these types of ovens http://www.fleetfarm.com/products/images/medium/0000000008052.jpg which really doesn't cook them. Next is the poor and gross excuses they call bathrooms. The men's room was just like a bathroom at a dive bar, urinals were dirty, and the 1 toilet and it's stall were even worse (broken seat, urine everywhere, along with who knows what). It looked as if the bathroom hadn't been cleaned in months. As a parent, my review is to help other parents not waste their money or time on this SKIDMARK of a facility so your child can have a good birthday party. read more

The new rink is great for the most part. They do have a a few problems that are quite noticeable. To start, the bathrooms are quite unsanitary, and sometimes they don't have any paper towel to dry your hands with. Another noticeable problem is the jump area. The age limits on most things their are 12 and under plus there is normally not that many other children there for kids to play with. This area also seems to get very boring quickly and is not worth the extra money. You can see another issue when you reach the rental for rollerblades, and roller skates. This area is mostly good fast, and easy accept the lack of 1/2 sizes and certain sizes in general. This can be a huge issue making you foot very tight or not close enough to your toe making you lose balance. Another problem is shown in the competitions. These competitions are very dangerous for example in the main game it is reverse wipeout with a musical chair aspect. The kids have to hit the GROUND as fast as they can to win each round. It is easy to see the extreme danger in this. They don't even rent out helmets so the kids could easily slip and hit their heads on the ground. Another competition issue is with the races. For the most part the races and good there is one issue and that is separation. They separate skaters by grade which is good yet there is one flaw. They also separate by sex which doesn't seem to make sense because the skating speed in girls and boys seem to be similar. Also my kids want to do these races together with there friends but many of there friends are different genders and my kids are too. There is one final issue I've seen which is the music request. Both of my kids that attended this place requested songs sadly they didn't have them in their system, all they played were songs years old that most people did not enjoy it seems they should just get a top 100 playlist and play those but nope. In conclusion the new rink is good but there are flaws note there's a lot of good things too this was just showing the flaws so I suggest you go and see it for yoursell read more

Still a reasonably priced outing for the kids. $6 each for afternoon skating (we have our own rollerblades). 1 PM - 4 PM Very family friendly during the afternoon. Not too busy. They added a bounce house area for $5 more. We haven't used it yet but it looks pretty nice and new. The staff has always been nice and well mannered. Must be different at night... I attended a birthday party at the Rink a few weeks ago. I felt bad for the parents hosting the party because it was really awful. The place is run by a bunch of teenagers so wrapped up in their phones they can't be bothered to help anyone out. When I arrived there were FOUR teenage girls sitting around a table where I was supposed to check in. I waited there for at least 2 minutes before they stopped chatting and checking their phones to ask what I wanted. I was instructed to go to the bounce house area. After wondering around for awhile I finally found that part of the building, it was clean and there was a lot of windows which made it nice on a dreary day. I figured at some point an employee would come and get us to move the party on to the skating part but nobody every showed up. When it was time to rent skates the young man behind the counter was polite and trying his best to get through the long line (at least 12 people) that had formed. I didn't see a single employee on the actual rink while we skated. The rink itself looked like it needed some work and I saw gum on the floor in several spots. I guess an announcement was made to move to the party room for food but I didn't hear it and once again their was nobody around directing people. Once in the room it was complete and total chaos. There were actually THREE parties crammed into one tiny in the room. Based on the size of the place I don't understand why they would design the parties to be in their at the same time. The tables weren't labeled for the guests so there was lots of confusion and there was NOT enough room for all of the kids to sit down. Some of the party guests had to leave the room and eat their pizza in the other dining area. There was a slice of pizza and a cup of pop at each table spot. A few adults asked if there were other drink options such as water or juice but never saw anything else offered. There were 3 teenage girls in the party room and I only saw one working, the other 2 were playing on their phones and at one point drawing on a balloon. Midway through eating a middle aged women walked by the party room and set ONE chair in the room for the 20+ adults that were standing around and quickly walked off. The pizza was terrible, the party hosts brought in their own cake so at least there was that. Since the room was packed with 3 parties at once people were singing at different times and it was really loud and impersonal. I felt bad that people actually spent money hoping for a nice party and it turned out to be so disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it for a party for any age group. read more
