Staff could be a little friendlier. Selection is decent, but full priced (no used options)

Blue Bunny Books is easily one of my favorite locations to walk to and hang out. During my…read morepregnancy, I have found myself walking into town just to be able to sit and do some work while sipping on a yummy drink. Their cafe isn't just creative, it's extensive! They really have something for everyone here. My boyfriend, who is more of a tea than a coffee person, hasn't found any complaints when trying their drinks (and he may be as much of a drink critic as I am). If you have kids, Blue Bunny also does creative and fun events to engage and involve your little ones in some much-needed book-themed fun. With our family expecting our first baby, we're beyond thrilled to bring her over to Blue Bunny's events, no matter how old she is. Blue Bunny is such a staple to the Dedham community, and I will always enjoy going back for some yummy coffees and good books.

My son and I grabbed some drinks from the cafe and they were delicious, then as we waited browsed their selection. There are more children's books overall but they do carry toys, trinkets, cards, crafts, historical books and more. The woman working the front was super sweet and the lady behind the cafe counter was too, their service was welcoming. As far as value I'd rather support local than the big store. Their prices are the norm but yes you can find majority of these books at big retailers for less. They both also gave a military discount even though I don't believe that is the norm for them but much appreciated. Overall great experience.

But for the most part, they recognize that a solid browse is usually needed before you'll be ready to check out up front. I admit, once I find my books I always (always!) take a right turn before checkout to do a solid walk-thru of the papers, calendars, binders, candy- everything yu need to have cool, pretty things on your desk or bookcase. And theyy get me every time. I ike that you can put a book aside to pick up and pay in store. Some times I'm not 100% sure that I'm buying the book I want, so it's handy to not have to pre-pay for a pickup. The selections on the tables up front are usually fairly interesting - mysteries, current releases, popular titles. There's always something there that I haven't read, or a great gift idea. Yep, people still like to give and get real paper books! While I keep a dozen or so ready-loaded on my Kindle, my first love are books that stay with you and I'm always gifting one to someone who I know still reads, or is learning to read, or doesn't know that they need to READ A DAMN BOOK! Because I'm only there to help! Go. Listen to a story time. Attend an author event. Or get a Starbucks at the counter and grab a table. There are many worse ways to spend some time quieting your mind.

When I happened upon the Barnes & Noble at Derby St Shops, I came to realize that I had somehow been mentally convinced that there were no more open locations. So this was a pleasant surprise! They have such an amazing mission, and I highly recommend people look into this nonprofit to learn more on how to support! This review is for their Boston store--an open, spacious thrift and book store. They have a great selection, from affordable everyday pieces to higher-end clothing (for both women and men), plus old-timey knickknacks, home goods, shoes, costume jewelry, toys, and new packaged gifts. There's so much to rummage through, and it doesn't have that musty thrift store feel--it's very well kept. We bought a bunch of things: glass cake display I had as a kid (that doubles as a fruit trifle dish), an abstract dress that was basically new (originally over $200, I snagged for $40), a metal dragon bracelet, and more. The staff is fun--they seem like friends with each other, and a few even made me feel like we were becoming friends too, loll. It's a very cool atmosphere and well staffed. If no one's at the register, there's a bell you can ring and they'll be right there. I love this place--it is one of my highlights of the South End area!

Beacon Hill Books and Cafe is a three story independent bookstore set inside a townhouse on Beacon…read moreHill, and the physical space does as much work as the inventory in making it worth a visit. We walked into a building with the kind of architectural character that chain bookstores cannot manufacture, with small rooms opening into each other across multiple floors, wallpapered walls, and reading nooks distributed throughout that invite you to slow down rather than move through quickly. The book selection is well curated with staff recommendation cards on the shelves that actually reflect genuine enthusiasm rather than perfunctory notes. We saw limited edition hardcovers and local and regional titles appearing alongside the broader fiction and nonfiction selection. Browsing felt productive rather than overwhelming because the curation kept things focused. The kids section upstairs is one of the more delightful in Boston, with a train running along a track near the ceiling that tends to make a strong impression on younger visitors. There is also an art print vending machine on the second floor that draws its own audience of visitors looking for something small and specific to take home. The cafe occupies the lower level and operates as a separate experience from the bookshop above. We ordered the oat milk cappuccino with Vermont maple syrup, which was worth it. The morning glory scone and the popovers are two other items to consider. The cafe is tiny, around eight tables inside with a small patio, and reservations are recommended for breakfast and afternoon tea service. Pricing at the cafe is on the higher end, and certain fixed price service formats on specific dates push it considerably further, so checking current pricing before booking is worth doing. For a bookshop that doubles as a destination in its own right, Beacon Hill Books and Cafe delivers a cozy, curated experience that rewards lingering. It is the kind of place we would return to just to sit and read with a good coffee.

But beautiful and curated inside. My quibble with the Inciardi print machine - is that I would rather the prints be Boston Specific - these are just more generic. The One in San Francisco's north Beach has all SF ones (not super touristy, but hidden local gems, like Golden Boy Pizza, and a row house)
