I've been here twice now and every time it's the most lovely experience. This place is tiny and you will need a reservation. This was my first time doing the Sunday tea service and it was amazing. The scone was perfect. Loved the lemon cake and sandwiches were also good. We got the earl grey tea and it was very flavorful. The tea service comes with tea and the option of prosecco or lemonade. The value is really good for 75$ a person. This isn't the kind of thing where you leave hungry either. We found ourselves getting full after the second tier. Servers are friendly. They also have a grab and go pastry and coffee menu. If you've never been here before it's definitely worth it.

You may think I'm crazy, but my favorite part about Boston was this bookstore. It absolutely took my breath away! It is the cutest place ever, from their squirrel mascot, to the fireplace on each floor, to the windows on each end of the rooms that lit the rooms with sunlight, it truly had such a relaxing vibe. I loved the decor and how they converted the house into 4 stories of epic cuteness galore! Each floor had different genres of books, with the top floor (5th) housing the staff only area. The 4th floor has the children's/young adult books and I love how there are so many fun elements there, from the train that goes around the top by the ceiling, to the small red door that I think it just there for decoration? Unless it leads to some magical other part of the building... lol The ground level has a cafe and offers typical cafe food like sandwiches, soups and salads, but I think their specialty is breakfast/brunch items as well as afternoon tea. We wanted to sit down and enjoy a warm drink after our book browsing and were lucky that we were able to get seated right away, as shortly after there were larger parties coming in for brunch. Fully wheelchair accessible with access through the cafe, there is an elevator that will take you to all levels. There is one restroom on the 4th floor that is also accessible.

Solely reviewing the bookstore component and not the cafe. This is such a well curated and cute shop. The nooks with cookbooks and coffee table books are so aesthetically pleasing. The notes from the staff on their picks are really helpful too. Reminds me of the independent bookstores in the UK. This kids floor is also great with toys, including a toy train, and a fireplace. Two bathrooms too on this floor and the bottom floor.

While I didn't get to try the cafe, this is an absolutely adorable bookstore. It's multiple floors with such a fun array of books - and honestly, the cutest merch with their little squirrel mascot! It is just so cozy, and bright, and seems like such a lovely bookstore (I love the small details in the children's section, like a tiny door). And they have a fun mini print machine to get fun little art!

The books are very organized by section throughout the 4 floors. They have a tiny staircase or elevator to use. They had employees on each floor which was helpful when I was looking for a book. The store gets very crowded on the weekends and it's on the smaller side so be prepared for that. Check the cafe hours online as it was closed when I visited. I can't wait to come back and try it.

Order: Vanilla Latte Hot & Blue Berry Muffin Pros: Lawd the Blueberry Muffin Slaps!! It's so good and it pairs well with the vanilla latte which isnt overly sweet. Such a nice balance. The ambiance is great and the staff were/are amazing!!! So glad I stopped by to visit! Cons: no

Beacon Hill Books & Cafe is the most charming bookstore around! Their cottagecore-esque architecture + interior design is a nice artistic change from the rest of Boston. I look forward to coming all the time. Overall ratings below: Bookstore: 4.5/5 The bookstore itself is so stunning! The walls are a lovely pastel and the bookshelves are lined full of gorgeous titles. However, it did feel rather cramped in there and the staircases are so narrow. If you want to avoid the crowds and claustrophobia definitely try coming on the weekdays instead. Tea Time: 4/5 Reservations are simply a must (walk-ins are first come first serve) since they're always booked out. Definitely plan your visit in advance. We came for their Valentine's Tea Time and it was so adorable! All the way from the pink heart sugar cubes to the well arranged tower, everything was so delightful. All the treats tasted incredible. The main downside was how pricey it was for the amount of tea and treats you get. It was $230+ for two including gratuity so for that reason I would say it's lovely to try probably once. Overall, Beacon Hill Books & Cafe has made a name for itself as a must-visit spot in Boston. The bookstore itself is so fun to wander in. The teatime experience is overpriced, but a fun outing to have with a loved one. I'd say they're definitely deserving of the hype!

Such a fun and cute space. My wife is a book fanatic and I love me some coffee and a really cool space. The bookstore itself is really cool and cute, it is multiple floors, with each floor being something different and vibe. The bookstore is a little tight so be mindful of others and your space. The coffee shop is great. It is so cute but it is also a little tight and if you want a seat a reservation is needed/recommended. But they always have coffee to go!

Torn about this place. Very cute decor/space and the food is actually quite tasty (i went for breakfast)... but it's got a few things working against it. 1. It's tiny. Like cute, but small... like my father would get claustrophobic in there. 2. It's pricey for what you get. The food is good but for the price you pay, the amount is ... well ... let's just say I was still a bit hungry when I left. 3. The service was kinda meh... almost felt like I was bothering the wait staff when asking for something. Now... having said all that... I still think it could be worthwhile maybe just doing the afternoon tea service with a small group. If you do go, make sure to get reservations bc theyre almost always full. Overall, I'd say this one is a toss up. If you want the vibes and dont mind the price, it's a decent bet!

What a perfect bookstore! Yes, it's poplar and its narrow space can be hard to navigate, but it's a very quaint store with a great book selection and whimsical corners like the kids door, pink room, and cookbook nook. There are restrooms on the ground level and on the top in the kids section.

What a charming experience from beginning to end! **Before I go any further, I will tell you it is best practice to reserve a table ahead of time, as the cafe has limited seating and books out days in advance! ** The entrance to Beacon Hill Books is up an exterior staircase, while the Cafe entrance, is through a concrete archway on the sidewalk level. through a corridor, it open up into a charming cozy patio, this is where the host station is. Inside the restaurant, you will find white linen table cloths and beautiful table settings. A lit small table lamp on every table. Bookcases cover the wall on one side. It is an older building filled with so much charm! I chose the farmer's market breakfast. I was delighted by the Smokey maple bacon and 2 scrambled eggs cooked to perfection. The roasted cherry tomatoes and pesto were excellent additions to the plate. For my drink, I chose an espresso beverage, but when I go back I think I will try the mimosa. The staff were very attentive and I received superb service. After you are finished eating your meal, you can head upstairs to the first, second and 3rd floors to explore all the books. Beacon Hill books is an independent bookseller, so the books are curated in house and the staff is not only friendly and happy to help but very knowledgeable! On the top level are 3 rooms of kids books, including a very small play area and chairs and couches for reading together before you purchase. Inside the teen books are you will find a mini painting vending machine. You will need $1 in four quarters to purchase a surprise painting! This makes a fun keepsake for children ages 1-99! I saw children so excited to take their turn and see what miniature painting they received! I ended up purchasing a few stickers from the gift area and a travel book about Boston. I already can't wait to go back! Once seated, inside or outside upon request, you are given a menu with limited, albeit excellent offerings.

This is such a magical bookstore/cafe! I'm sure kids would love this place as one whole floor is dedicated to them, not just books but lots of toys and a train that circles the whole room! It was so packed & busy when we visited so I wasn't able to go through as many books as I'd like, but that won't deter me from visiting again - very happy to have stumbled upon this bookstore/cafe!

My first dinner visit. Food tasted good; however, difficult to enjoy with multiple mouse sightings during our meal.

Ask the Community - Beacon Hill Books & Cafe

Does the store have an elevator?

Yes! A nice one. You'll want to enter on the cafe side on the right and they can help you. If you can do some stairs, you can go up the main entrance (about 6 stairs) and take the elevator from there.

Are you allowed to read/work on the patio or is this only for the café?

The cafe is really busy with very booked reservations (even on a random Tuesday). While it may be possible, work/focus may be difficult here. (Just go and have a fun time!)
