This used to be a very classy consignment store. I haven't been here in years, and went the other day. Rather than luxury brands, designer clothing, and the like, it was full of mall brands. Nothing wrong with the store itself, just not how I remember. If you're the 30 and under set, this place has a bohemian vibe and alternately, the Lily P side as well. The people working the front of the store are pleasant and helpful; however, the person working the window where you take clothes to be consigned is VERY rude, curt and abrasive! My husband and I had a leisurely drive down Frankfort Ave and decided to stop by Margaret's. If it's been awhile since you've been by, it's much smaller and focused on its selection. Margaret sold off the connected house, which reduced the space by half, and home decor and children's is no longer available. The room you enter has a nice boutique feel and that continues throughout. Clothing is in excellent shape, name brand, upscale and organized by size. In the next room is a selection of professional and business casual tops, bottoms, jewelry and coats. Moving upstairs is a bit more casual with jeans, sweaters, shoes, accessories and mens. Prices are reasonable but also on the high end as compared to other consignment shops. I almost bought a jacket but while trying it on I found the original tag had been left on - and it was $15 cheaper than Margaret's tag. Turned off I put it back on the rack. Fitting rooms available and open, both floors. Service was friendly and helpful. Small private parking lot and street parking too. Consignment window is on the backside of the store. Margaret's is selective so be prepared for most of your items to be turned away. read more

I shop as well as consign items here, and with both have a pleasant experience! Yes, they are choosy with what they accept, but I understand and appreciate their desire to keep a high quality inventory. The ladies that screen and accept the items are wonderful - they make it fun and they provide constructive feedback if an item is not accepted. I purchased a Louie V bag from this consignment store over the summer as a gift. The person I purchased it for has multiple Louie V bags and indicated was a fake. The owner asked for pictures to verify authenticity which were sent. Now I am no longer able to communicate to them on their website. Do not purchase luxury items from this business. read more

I love this cute little consignment store! The first thing that popped into my head was that this place would be perfect to go Derby shopping. They have all kinds of cute, designer dresses that have really good deals on them. Plus, they have an ENTIRE rack of just Lily Pulitzer, for all you prepsters. Everything is about half off its retail price, too! Most of the clothing is for women older than my demographic, think Chico's or Talbots, which are great, higher end brands. But it was still fun to look through, they also have tons of cute jewelry, Derby hats and a random assortment of antiques. The women working the store were very friendly. If you go upstairs, you'll find women and men's clothing on sale! This is a great shop to check out if you're in need of a nice outfit, or just wanting a new place to shop around at. read more

Stopped in when walking to a nearby bookstore. A lot of ladies clothing that is beautifully displayed and well-organized. As is typical with consignment clothing, there was only a very, very small selection for the plus-sized woman. I felt that a lot of the clothing had dated styling and was a bit matronly, but that is a matter of personal taste. There was a lot of very pretty, new jewelry. Due to the lack of plus-sizes, i doubt that I will return, but for those who wear regular sizes, it is worth checking out; one never knows when the perfect item may turn up! read more

I have been consigning at Margaret's almost since they have opened. I actually left there crying today after I tried to drop off my consignments. I had called prior to getting all of my items together to make sure that they were currently accepting items. They also did not tell me that they were not looking at more than 30 items at a time. Nor was I told that they were not taking any more mens clothes, pretty much all shoes, skirts, pants, dressy jackets, etc. As I was handing them the very few items that met their, unbeknownst to me, criteria, I was told that my items had a significant amount of pet hair on them. I asked the woman at the window about my $178 higher end casual faux fur jacket where the animal fur was located and she said that it was all over the item. After searching in the sunlight for several minutes, I found one hair on the entire piece. I also had a Ralph Lauren Puffer Jacket, which the employee handed back to me because there was a spot slightly larger than the tip of a pen that she spotted on the elbow of the right sleeve. Therefore, she suggested that I dry clean the jacket. I barely put my finger on the tip of my tongue and wiped the spot off with the end of my fingernail. The employee told me that she was not going to take something that I spit on because it was not hygienic. I felt that was a very inappropriate, cruel reaction that could have been dealt with in a very different manor. My mother was with me and said not to put my spit on anything else, trying to make me feel better because she knew that I had really gotten my feelings hurt. The additional individual at the intake window immediately stood up for how disgusting I was and started aggressively returning every item that they were going to take back at us out the window and stated that they refused to take any of my items. I have referred well over 100 people over the last 20 years to consign/purchase items at this establishment. I guess that times have really changed...When a business that you have purchased thousands of dollars worth of items from over the years and also made them thousands of dollars by consigning items doesn't care about your business anymore is just extremely bad business. read more

Margaret's Consignments is a storefront in St. Matthews that looks inviting. As you enter, the racks are well organized and labeled. I love Chico's clothes and they have their own separate section. Everything is well displayed and curated by size, color and style. The biggest negative is the attitude of some of the salespeople. I worked in retail for 40 years, including some years at Macy's, and know I would have been fired if I treated people the way that they do. However, as a consignor, I like the return that I get on my clothes. "Money for nothing." read more

I have loved this store and known the owner. Today I walked in desperately in need of a red blouse for a last minute music gig. There was one older ( so am I) blonde woman behind counter. She checked one woman out. Before checking out next woman, I politely asked her if I could take a red blouse off the window display. Trying to make it easier for her. She got incensed and said , " Margaret doesn't allow that! " I asked, then, " is it not for sale?" She snapped at me, " wait till I finish with this customer." I said, no problem and browsed the store. When I got close to the desk, I heard her insulting me to a shopper saying I was " impatient" and a few other nasty remarks. This is when I was patiently waiting. I can't believe what I heard and experienced. That woman was clearly out of line. Never again. read more

I've only bought clothing at Margaret's, so if you need info on selling, keep on scrolling! (At least until I earn enough to be cleaning things out of my closet that Margaret's would take). Margaret's is a beautifully-merchandised treasure trove of barely-worn designer duds. Situated on one of my favorites streets in town, Margaret's is located on a picturesque corner with a large old Victorian building that just begs to be explored. Most of my experience at Margaret's has been in the women's clothing; the best labels are in the room to the left of the entrance, and the best deals are upstairs. I've been thrilled to get Talbot's shoes, Cache cocktail dresses, and Cole Haans that make my friends green with envy -- all for a fraction of the price I would pay while on a retail sale or at Zappo's outlet. Best of all, Margaret's marks down frequently, and the labels always say when the next low price will be. Exercise patience with caution if something really catches your eye, as I've tried to wait out for a lower price and then been disappointed that someone else did the same and has beaten me to the good deal. For special events, upscale clothing, or just for a fun new accessory to add to your wardrobe, I'd recommend swinging by Margaret's for a quirky and fun addition to your wardrobe :) read more

Wow, this a gem here. This is a beautiful consignment shop with quality clothes. Their sale rack at 50% off resulted in my scoring some Free People and other designer brands. I left with $50 worth of clothes worth about $200. read more

I was impressed with the huge selection of merchandise available at Margaret's. The clothes are organized wonderfully, and it's easy to find what you are looking for. But the customer service at this consignment shop is bad enough to make me want to visit other stores before making another trip to Margaret's. The staff members always seem bothered when you ask for help, and there is even a note of disdain when they respond. It's best to venture on your own if you don't want to encounter a sour attitude. REALLY nice items, and the stuff that's been sitting around a while can be bought at ridiculous prices. The staff isn't so much gracious as they mean business. So if you are going to sell your items to them be sure to have all clothing on hangers and GO AROUND TO THE BACK! There's a window for receiving, meekly approach and say "This is my first time, please tell me what to do". Because if you try to pile a bunch of junk on the counter inside you are going to feel like you just pissed off your grandma's bridge club. read more

I will start out by saying that I find Margaret's a little pretentious. Considering it's a consignment store, I shouldn't feel like I am too poor to shop there, but I usually do. That's the main reason why I didn't award it five stars. However, if you can overlook the pretentious vibe of the place, I think you'll find that Margaret's is a really great place to find nice barely- to never-worn clothes for really cheap. My favorite place to shop is the hidden sales room in the very back of the first floor. This is where clothing goes before it is given back to the seller as unsold, and I have found some really great additions to my wardrobe there for less than $5 each. If I lived closer to the store, I would go there every week just to check out the sale room. I have never sold to Margaret's--I tend to wear my clothes until they fall apart--but if you're the type of person with a bunch of barely worn name-brand clothes hanging in your closet that you would like to get rid of, I have a feeling you'll have some success selling there. read more

I keep visiting, hoping to see improvement, but it has only gotten worse. Today, I was greeted with a handwritten sign that basically said "no large totes, etc." (I don't remember the exact wording) on the door. As I ventured in, ready to browse, I noticed many dated items that were extremely overpriced. I adore a classic, timeless look, but many of the items just looked old. As I wandered upstairs, I was greeted with signs telling me to "look left and right-- we're watching you!" Lovely. A word of advice to the owners: do not treat your customers like criminals. 98% of us have zero interest in stealing from you. In a way, I almost felt disrespected and unwanted. I don't mind cameras in a business at all; however, I don't need signs in my face every five seconds reminding me of that fact. read more

Margaret's is a fairly nice consignment shop, they have a HUGE selection of items (and a very nice Men's section) however I find the layout and arrangement of clothing makes it hard to find things. I know that different rooms have different colors of clothing but this makes it hard to find things in your size. The prices are a little steep for consignment but if an item doesn't sell within a month the price decreases, so you can find great deals once in awhile. The staff mean business, making them not the most friendly or helpful of people. But I have never not been greeted when walking in the store. I will be back but not as often as other consignment shops in Louisville. read more

I ALWAYS find the best quality stuff here at the most amazing prices. I've lost a lot of weight and had to replace everything. In November, I found a 3/4 length gray, wool coat that was only $16. It has been perfect for the Louisville winter. Today, I needed something for a Yelp Elite event, dressy and flirty. There was this awesome sequined dress and it SPOKE to me...."Try me! Try me!" Could I wear THIS size?? Yes!! And it's half the consignment price! Less than $20!! If you can find me in Yelp tonight you will see it!! LOL! Where else can you go shopping and get serenaded at the front entrance by a beautiful man dressed in drag? That is one of the things that makes Margaret's unique and fun. I usually stop by once a month during the F.A.T. trolley hop. They have a wide selection of women's clothing, shoes, hats, jewelry and handbags as well as men's clothing. The entire store is color coordinated so if you are looking for that perfect little red dress, it is easier to find. Most of it is gently used and reasonably priced. The jewelry is new and bold! I can't resist grabbing a new pair of earrings or a statement necklace. During the Trolley Hop the last Friday of every month, they have live entertainment, refreshments and specials. I think Margaret's is over-rated, personally. They have some nice things but I think many of their items are outdated. I don't know what there method is for accepting items for consignment but I shake my heads sometimes. I have tried to consign items with them and they accept items that I would never expect them to and give back brand names. I take the items they refuse to others consigners and they take them and they sell. There are better consignment stores in Louisville. Margaret's has just been around awhile so everyone knows about them. read more

Was in here shopping with my wife and daughters, when my 3 year old had to "go potty". I found an older lady that worked there with daugjter in tow and asked where the restroom was because my little girl needed to use the restroom. She looked at use and said "no. You can go to one of the food places a couple of doors down." I guess the no public restroom sign also applies to would be customers. My wife put all her items down and we left. read more

Staff is THE WORST!. I arrived in Louisville from out of town and hit the consignment stores looking for fabulous finds to wear to the Derby. I started my search at Margaret's consignment store. BIG MISTAKE!! A matronly woman was nasty to me. I had selected several dresses to try on - left my selection in the dressing room to go find a few more choices. This sales lady proceeded to track me down and told me "this is no mall store" in no uncertain terms she told me put my dresses back on the racks now. I had not even made my final choices! My next mistake was asking a passing employee if there was a restroom and got a very curt NO. Needless to say, I left never to return which is too bad because the clothing was nice but the "customer service" was outrageous!! read more

No idea why none of the Clifton/Crescent Hill residents have reviewed this but this is a great place for a man to build an affordable wardrobe--the consignments are clean and classy--many a find here for sports coats and accessories that might otherwise cost me a lot of money. Rude bitter old ladies. I parked my car in their parking lot. Was planning on shopping there after I got my hair cut because they are all in the same shopping block. I get back to my car and they scotch taped their business card on my drivers side window. I didn't know why so I called later and asked. The old woman said that it was their parking lot and I could only park there if I was shopping there. I said I was going to but not now! She said I would have to talk to the owner because she didn't do it. I said it didn't matter. No one should be doing it! It leaves sticky film on my window and I didn't do anything wrong! I've been in there a few times before and they are not friendly at all anyway. read more

I have shopped at Margaret's for years, and I'm thinking today was my last. The customer service has always been poor but I overlooked it because she generally had some nice designer clothing. I have never been greeted by any of the sales staff, hello or goodby, thanks for looking -- nothing. As many have stated here, you get an instant feeling that your mere presence annoys the sales staff. The store has a very limited selection now. The designer area seems to be primarily in the main room but primarily sizes 0-4. I don't even go upstairs anymore - same old stuff. Today I attempted to shop for a few things and was in the store about 1/2 hour AND WAS TOTALLY IGNORED!! One older lady walked around me twice and never said a word!! I'm somewhat of a shopaholic and there are plenty other stores with a much better selection, who do appreciate my business. Done here. As a shopper, I love Margaret's. It's fun to look around and I almost always find something. As a consignor, if you don't take their rudeness personally, then you will be fine. Every time I've been to the window they are rude and seem put off. Last time they complained about feeling "overwhelmed". Overwhelmed? Really? RUDE, RUDE,RUDE! When I entered the store there was an employee close by....no hello. No welcome, no can I help you, no kiss my ass!! Nothing! A did find quite a few pieces that I wanted to try on. I asked the rude employee if I could put my selections in a fitting room while I continued to look around. She said no! And all four of the tiny fitting rooms were unoccupied. So I continue to shop with my arms full. At this point I'm really annoyed because I want to leave as I feel very unwelcome but I am finding some great pieces to try on!! Upon entering the fitting room, I read a sign saying limit of four items and when done, return items to the proper rack! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! What the heck are the employees for?! It sure isn't for meeting and greeting or customer service. Bottom line....some really rude employees but some great clothes. I almost forgot, the owner herself came in the front door as I was looking thru a rack by the door. She also said absolutely nothing to me. I just think that small businesses should be friendlier than the big box stores. read more

Last year, at the suggestion of a friend, I packed up a large selection of clothing I no longer wanted and took it to Margaret's to sell. It was an awful experience. Everyone I spoke to was rude. I had to wait forever. They were slow and couldn't care less how long they kept me standing there. Although I brought beautiful designer clothing, some of it with the tags still on, the scrutinized everything with a scowl and a "not sure if this is good enough for us" attitude. I thought well maybe a bad day, so I left my stuff and hoped for a better experience next time. I have been there two more times, the last time being today. I will never go there. Its just a bunch of nasty women all standing around doing nothing, though too busy to help you. No place is worth their awful attitudes and horrible treatment. Go elsewhere.
