Flamingos and coffee at the Nook

I love coffee and I love the NOOK! Have been meaning to write about this spot for a while, since I do go here at least twice a day. The North End has a few really good coffee spots and this is in my top 3. They have a great mix of good coffee, tasty food and they also are licensed. Sadly I have never gone there for a pint but it is reasonably priced based on the menu. They recently were sold to new owners that have kept everything that is great about the NOOK and added a few things to make it more of a destination. Art exhibits, live music and longer hours.

Four stars because they made the absolute best London Fog tea latte I've ever had. The service was curt, unfriendly, and lacking but the drink made up for it.

The Nook is a cozy, classy little coffee shop that offers so much more than coffee. The atmosphere is lively and the decor is quaint and stylish. Their display case is filled with delicious look treats including lots of vegan options such as cheesecake, cookies and energy bars. They also have a menu, which I didn't got a full look at but it has many vegan options as well. I got the smoked tofu and an energy bar, both were simply delicious. The staff was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Probably my favourite coffee shop I have been to in the HRM.

Their nachos and smoked salmon bagels are awesome! Very clean and trendy little cafe with free WiFi. Their staff also make excellent lattes!

They're really expensive ($8 for a bagel) but I assume that's because of the prime location. The seats are comfortable, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the food is good. I like that I can get beer here. Great place to have a study group and have a healthy lunch. We couldn't find a seat when we came in, so we asked to share a booth with a man who was sitting alone. He was cool with it, and turns out he was a regular who was testing out a new sandwich that will be on the future menu. I think he said he owned the fitness place down the road. There is quite a bit of loyalty to this place in the community.

Great atmosphere with great local food. You can tell everything is made with pride. Great place for a coffee and breakfast bagel sandwich.

The weirdest smelling coffee shop ever! The coffee and food is good-but I can't stand to sit in there due to the smell.

Not yet is known about the upstairs-from-the-Henry-House bar yet other than it's wonderful decor and fancy drink menu. This isn't a beer-drinking spot, folks. This is where you go to feel important, share some drinks with a few friends and enjoy a couple hours of elegancy without feeling out of place. The Drawing Room has a timeless feel to it. You could be having a flashback to any period over the last hundred years and know that no matter what year you're in, you're enjoying it like royalty. The drink menu offers martinis, wines, and drinks of all sorts. I ordered a Burie'd Mojito, which was white rum, an assortment of berry juices and mint leaves. It was fantastic! My second drink was a vodka-based green lime drink that was just as delicious. Mind you, the drinks are $10+ so unless your wallet is loaded, don't come here to join it. Of course, the Drawing Room isn't the type of environment to get drunk but the drinks are made strong so be wary of your perception because you may be surprised once you stand up.

My favourite is a Negroni, a delicious blend of campari, gin and vermouth. A perfect place for a date night or a few drinks with some close friends.

We walked in said our password and they were 40 mins late on setting up on Saturday Halloween eve. Only servers can allow you in. Atmosphere is dungeon library with 1950s music. Drinks are $15-17 each. We ordered: - Grandma's Boy ($17): 3/5 similar to Old Fashioned. A very simple straight up old fashioned that didn't have much complexity. - The Last Barman Poet ($17): 3/5 tequila based sour. A bit savoury because of the spices. Not that complex either. Overall: Such as shame as the atmosphere is amazing. Compared to a lot of restaurants with cocktails, this one is pricier and less amazingly prepared. We were disappointed with the selections and that's why we only tried 2 and left.

This review is for the Bayers Lake location…read more 1) Lost 2 stars for poor customer service and lack of information: We walked in at 7:00 p.m. to try their Friday trivia night. (We had called to book a table for trivia and when we walked in, they said no need to reserve--it doesn't get that busy. That should have been a warning.) We sat down for our meal. By 8:30, the first round of trivia had only concluded (this is considered slow--more on that below). That's when the server came by and grumpily asked if one of the people our party was 19 or over (he's 18). When we said no, she said he had to be out of there by 9:00. She didn't think to tell us this at 7:00, knowing we were there for trivia? No signage anywhere on the premises saying "Patrons under 19 have to leave by 9:00 p.m."? What kind of short-sighted policies do they have here? They were happy to take our money and not tell us that we'd have to leave by 9:00, knowing that we wouldn't be able to finish trivia. 2) Lost 1 star for slow and uninteresting trivia. Questions were read straight from a card by a host who didn't seem interested and didn't engage with his audience. He read each question slowly about three times, hence the s-l-o-w pace where it took 30 minutes for one round that didn't even have audio or video clues. The lack of players should have been our clue that this trivia event is not a success. 3) Lost 1 star for loud, eclectic ambience--this place doesn't know what it wants to be. The trivia was taking place at the same time as music on the speaker and sports TV were playing, all jumbled together at the same time. Maybe that's why the host had to repeat each question slowly several times. But hey, if you want to watch baseball while answering questions about Thomas the Tank Engine and listening to Mumford and Sons simultaneously, this is the place for you. If the food were good, it could save this place, but nope, just mediocre fare that could be served at any pub. And don't get me started on the quick little brown movement we saw out of the corner of our eye, darting under the dining tables. We know it's common for restaurants to have this problem, but flagrantly in the dining room while we were eating makes it easy to warn everyone we know never to come here. Solid nope, nope, nope for this place.
