I took a very close friend to Moxies @ Dartmouth Crossin, NS for her birthday. We arrived at 1:45 and left at 8pm. It was so good we stayed for supper. Just your usual chain place to eat with options for everyone. Nothing overwhelmingly fantastic, its a chain with a cool vibe, almost like a club and with some boujee drinks on the menu. Menu has a good selection, service was just okay, very slow but polite and friendly. They had ran out of a few menu items so went with a blackened chicken sammy, super fresh bun and moist but blackening was super salty. They forgot the tomato on mine. The fries are sooooo good though, 10/10. They ask you if you want gravy for your fries when you order but its an upcharge that they don't tell you. Me and my stepdad had a hankering to go out for supper, and when we realized we both have never been to moxies, we decided to give it a go. The restaurant was clean, dimly lit with really nice light fixtures. Everyone was well spaced out for Covid Restrictions. I ordered the "steak frites" and he the baby back ribs. My steak was cooked to an absolutely perfect medium rare, the chimmichurri on it was a super fresh flavour addition and made the already perfect steak even more juicy and flavourful. Easily the best steak I've ever had. It came with fries and an arugula salad. The salad was surprisingly really good for being so basic, the fries were crispy and seasoned, I just wish they had had a little more salt. His ribs were also delicious. Tender and very flavourful, with a great sweet/Smokey bbq sauce. The mixed veggies it came with actually included beets which he said was a surprise but they were really tasty, and mashed potatoes which you can never go wrong with. We both found that the portion sizes of everything was pretty on point - we were Full and satisfied after our meal but not completely stuffed. For dessert we had the white chocolate brownie (with whipped cream chocolate sauce and icecream) It was really rich. It was large enough that we split it, it was really sweet and soft- I definitely wouldn't order it just for me This was a great experience. Been to Moxies twice and enjoyed both times. Perhaps a little pricey for some but I don't care for a steady diet of fast food. Moxie's is classy casual if there is such a thing. The interior is very upscale and professional as is the staff. The menu is very contemporary as well offering vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as gluten free items. Moxies has become a personal favorite of mine so much so that I would go there anytime its offered. My previous and first experience was miles from here in Regina, Manitoba. I am impressed as well that their operation is so consistent across the miles and miles of Canada. It s a good place to take a date and not break the bank. This is sort of a joke, but I almost feel scammed.. haha. The quality of food from this place was super surprising, considering their price. The fish tacos were the worst tacos I've had, out of any kind of taco. At one point It started to feel and taste like soggy cardboard. They were cold, had no crisp to them. Just overall a bland fest. (Check out St. Louis for a good fish taco). Fries were droopy and nothing noteworthy. The bruschetta was even bad. Cold, gross bread. I visited Moxie's on Wednesday's after chilling -10. It was not busy so the service was great. I had the steak frites. Ordered it medium rare. The 7 Oz of angus beef sirloin came cooked to perfection juicy and red like I like it. The chimichurri was exquisite adding great flavour to the stake. I accompanied it with their market salad which was surprisingly very good, a good combination of fresh veggies with artisan greens like edamame and pumpkin seeds. I ordered their Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was quite generous, delicious but I think it is big enough to share. Good service, good food deserves a good tip and 5 stars. read more

We have eaten at Moxie's many times and we were always happy with the food. Dry ribs were our appetizer followed by chicken tenders and a burger. All the food was served hot and had a nice presentation. We are not impressed that staff are not immunized for COVID 19. Our server was not vaccinated and spoke about the issue with us. We will not be returning to the restaurant until staff are immunized. This is a public safety issue that the manager should be interested in for everyone's safety. We popped into Moxie's in Dartmouth Crossing and heard fabulous things in the past. We just had no idea what to order, not that their menu is overwhelming or confusing, just that there were so many great options to chose from. In the meantime I was completely satisfied with my fabulously made g&t. They have some pretty sweet bartenders there. I could literally tip those back all day no problem. If memory serves me correctly they have a slush type substance in them along with some mint leaves. They looked pretty and tasted ever prettier. We eventually decided on wings to start, salt and pepper to be specific. They were actually pretty amazing. We then continued on to the top sirloin steak salad and the beef vindaloo. The steak salad was without a doubt the best salad I have ever had. The steak was done to perfection and the goat cheese that was snuck in there sent me to the moon and back. The dressing married all the flavors together nicely with a slight spiciness to it. Jud's beef vindaloo was a great combination of flavors as well. The naan bread was my personal favorite, as was the jasmine rice. It was rich and spicy with a slight hint of curry. When all was said in done we were happy campers. We knew by the ambiance of the place that it was going to be a bit pricier than our usual scene. So we were ok with it. It is a great place if you want to dress up and be a bit more fancy for a switch. Service was speedy, bar was sick, and food was great. Nothing to complain about! Went here last night for the first time with a group of friends and although the food was good, the service was lacking. There were 13 of us and although they don't take reservations, one of us called ahead to let them know we wood be coming and they said that's fine they would start to get seats together as people left. However, when we arrived at 7 we waited an additional 45-60mins to be seated. When we were seated it was 2 booths for 6 so we had to sit in 2 groups. Our drink orders then meal orders were taken, and about 45mins later we finally had our food. Our server was nice but some of us were in a rush because they had to be somewhere, and we didn't expect such a long wait time. Anyways, I had the Mediterranean burger with no onions or pickles, with fries. It was pretty good and the basil mayo that the fries came with was good too. For 13.99 it was a good portion and its one of the cheaper options on the menu. An additional comment revolves around the servers attire. Short black skirts and high heels, one or two had pants on though. I'm in the serving business and I could never, and never want to wear high heels serving. Actually anywhere I've worked requires non slip black shoes while serving because anything else is against code. And since when are skimpy black skirts classy? It's a fancy place so they should be wearing something else. Also it bothered me that no ones hair was tied back; if your hair is longer than shoulders length, according to health code it has to be tied back when serving. Going to this Moxies' location around Christmas time for supper has become a tradition for my wife and me. We've found that this particular Moxies location has service that is above and beyond what you expect from a chain. The decor is very upscale and modern yet not quite practical. This time we were seated in a semi-circular booth. Two complaints: the lamp above our table was hung at an awkward height; it was hard for me to look at the waitress when I was trying to speak with her. Also it was so dark we had to use the flashlight app on our phones to read the menu! I get that you want to be cozy and romantic but that's a bit too dark! I couldn't get snap happy, so no pictures of our meals! . We decided to splurge and get the steak tenderloin and full rack of back ribs. My wife is a rare kinda of gal and ordered her steak that way. When our meals came out and we had out first few bites we were pretty disappointed to discover that the steak was cooked medium- pretty much no pink inside. My ribs had been finished on the grill a little too long and were dry. I had to saw at them with a steak knife. Our waitress was great when we told her everything was overcooked. She apologized and took the plates away saying she'd get us new mains. We kept the sweet potato fries as we were hungry. Always upgrade to sweet potato fries! I can't stress this enough; these are the best sweet potato fries I've had anywhere! While we were waiting for the new meals the manager came and said out server had told her what happened. She also apologized and offered us a complimentary salad while we waited. We declined but it was a nice offer. She seemed genuinely concerned and said that there would be no charge for our mains! The new mains came out and this go round the steak was done perfectly this time and ribs were fall-off-bone tender as promised. Our server waited this time at the table to make sure everything was okay. It is understandable that all restaurants, even the best ones, can have a bad day. Moxie is like that friend you may have, with very questionable morals and integrity but can be fun to be around, so you soldier on with the relationship. The atmosphere scared me, loud, dark, hooker heels everywhere. One glimpse of a whip and I was heading for the hills. I was seated outside, next to a plant which pollinated me and my meal in the cross breeze. My dish was enjoyable unlike the service. I ordered some shanghai noodle number, which turned to be extremely spicy, even for me. The waitresses flew by at record speed so I didn't receive my second glass of water until flames were shooting out my desert mouth. After finishing up my noodles and innocently waiting for the bill, I totally saw bare waitress ass while it mopped a table. The end result of the bill was expectable and acceptable. You know what, Moxie's? I get what you're all about. You're a big box chain with a nice flare for design and a slightly more questionable flare for giving your servers uniform guidelines worthy of a rap video, but I ain't mad atcha and here's why: First, your food is actually pretty good! Sure it's probably not local or organic or particularly inventive (although tasty avocado spring rolls give hope!), but the flavours are great, the range of options make it easy to please everyone, and it sure beats Jack Astor's before catching a flick. Second, it's hard to give the Moxie's girls a hard time because they're actually really friendly, welcoming, and better at their jobs than you'd expect. It can't be easy to serve tables while worrying about what might be showing! Of course two considerations must be known as I say this: 1) I'm not buying what those girls are selling, 2) but I am still a guy and may be subject to their flirtier service. I'm not sure how ladies would fare by comparison. Third, the building and its interior are a sight to behold. It's rare to see that much effort put into a new restaurant in the city. It's a nice escape from big box land when you need to grab a bite in the area. As for the gripes? A reduction in menu size axed nearly all vegetarian options including my beloved asparagus and goat cheese pizza. Veggies can choose from apps, salads (which in fairness are huge, don't skimp on key ingredients, and include a wonderful roast beet and arugula option) and a grilled portabello sandwich that's served until 4pm. My impression of Moxie's sways somewhere between swank and stank. While its look appears polished and modern, the general feel of the place lacks substance. From the moment of entry and onwards, service was completely scattered. Our names were mixed up on the waiting list, resulting in a friend of mine having to track down the hostess. Once we were finally seated at a table, it was another round of slack serving. We had a total of 3 waitresses dropping in and out with our food and drinks. And after ten minutes of waiting for our appetizers, we were informed that 2 out of 2 were no longer available. We were not comped for the poor service and mix ups, in fact I'm sure that our waitresses didn't even acknowledge the degree of mess. This whole experience just made for a very inconsistent flow. The food was mediocre at best and something you could find anywhere. It seems that Moxie's tries to exude high class, while it comes off as more of a primped up 'Hooters'. Girls all seemed to match a certain look, giving 'less is more' new meaning. The food was ok. The service was cringeworthy. However, judging by the other reviews, it could've just been a bad night? The food is better than average and the service was OK. But - I'm a little confused by this place. It has this Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde sort of quality. From the outside it looks modern and new. Once you walk in you're presented with two choices for where you'd like to sit. Choose the left and you'll find yourself in an almost upscale dining environment. The lights are dim and the atmosphere is chic. Wait staff is well dressed. You can tell they are going for that "upscale chain" sort of feel, maybe comparable to the Cheesecake Factory. Choose the right (the bar) and it's a entirely different world. Wait staff is comprised of young girls in shorts and low cut shirts showing off their.... "personalities". It almost felt like a Hooters. I found myself wondering what the hell had just happened? Was I still in the same restaurant? The menu was the same... must be the same restaurant. But... huh? Color me confused. Don't get me wrong - the food is still good no matter which path you chose. I especially liked the beet salad and the salmon. I have seen good reviews on this place but my friends and I had a very different experience! First of all, our table was not recognized for a good 25 minutes and then they took our drink order. We waited for over an hour before they took our food orders. 1.5 hours later we received our food. Personally, I ordered a steak with mashed potatoes and veges. After I got over the fact that this was obviously just thrown on my plate, no presentation or caring how it looked period! Then I went in for the taste as by the time we got our food we were all starving! The mashed potatoes were lumpy and had hard pieces of rotten potatoes and the steak was the size of a fast fry and was over done and dry. Needless to say I could not eat it. Went here a couple months ago with a friend for her birthday. I couldn't remember why i didn't like this place so i thought i would give it another chance. I ordered a peach cocktail and it was delicious! I also ordered a burger (can't remember now) and it was also very good. I believe the reason i didn't like this place was because the waitresses dressed pretty revealing. Moxie's is one of those places I like going back to for lunch once in a while. First, the atmosphere is nice as they spent mega bucks on the decor of this place. I always wonder how they can get away with their hiring practices though; it seems everyone working there, men and women, should be models. Strange, but in a good way. For a chain restaurant though, the food is always consistently good and fresh. Most of the stuff doesn't actually feel like it came out of plastic bag or the freezer. Today, their soup was called "loaded potato" and it was very tasty, with nice smoky bacon coming through. I then had the beef dip sandwich for the first time here and it was fantastic. The baguette it was served on was nice and chewy, the beef was wonderfully tender and the jus was full of flavour. I was also here a couple months ago with my 12 year old daughter and her friend and the erupting volcano dessert for kids should be missed. It's just plain old ice cream but they serve it inside a bowl filled with dry ice so that when they pour hot water on it, there is all kinds of smoke coming out from the bowl... kids love it. My only knock on Moxie's is that prices are a bit on the high side for this kind of formulaic food. I have been to Moxie's at this location a number of times. Food is always excellent, it looks awesome and tastes just as good. One thing I really enjoy is the large menu. Prices vary, some mains are expensive but some are not. The varying menu and prices really appeals to me. The atmosphere is nice, although the lighting is dim making it hard to read the menu. Every day of the week there are drink specials. Last night a 2 oz gin and tonic drink was $5.99, not to shabby for a double, and they aren't your averageG&T's. I am somewhat confused about the waitstaff. Although service is usually A-1, all of the hostesses wear the skankiest outfits I have ever seen!! Now I know some of these restaurant girls dress trashy for tips. But Gosh, I was terrifed I was going to see someones VAG! Seriously, it's gross. I hate the thought of one of these chicks dropping something and having to pick it up. I have been here many times and I will for sure be back, I just wish thse girls would cover up! I cant express enough how much this place SUCKS! Phil Leach? You gave me your business card, and I was very surprised to find that it says "Regional Manager"!!? I hope you are listening now, because running away from me chanting "Have a good day" over and over as you run away didn't get the job done. You are a poor excuse for a manager Phil. If you lose your temper, you lose. Period. I am still floored at how you would treat a paying customer out with his girlfriend at your restaurant. Hot Tip, don't take your date to this place. So the story is, we went out yesterday to catch a quick lunch since we were in the Dartmouth Crossing. I ordered two waters, a good bottle of wine and a beer. The waters never showed up. When it came to ordering we tried to order Appetizers and had to choose three times from the menu before finding something they could make due to food shortages. After finishing the Apps, we tried to order our Mains, and same thing. "Sorry we don't have any Tuna left after the lunch rush" and "We are out of Chicken". Our server was really great, but you could tell she was embarrassed by the poor function of her management. So it was 1PM, probably not a good time to be running out of food. I asked her if they were going out of business just kind of as a joke. We finally ordered something that they did have, and 10 minutes later she came back telling us again that they didn't have the ingredients to make this menu item also. I figured she had to be joking. Nope, a full 4 Main items on the menu unmakeable all for different shortages. I asked politely to speak with the manager. It took him 10 minutes to pull away from whatever he does, because he sure doesn't keep his menu items purchased, to reach our table. He was confrontational from the start, and took a challenging stance. I asked him the same thing, "Are you going out of business?" He said no. He starting mansplaining to us how kitchens work and how they use fresh and so they run out all the time! Wow, some business model. I told him I was not happy and he said "Well I can't help what my servers tell you, but we do have the Tuna, and we do have the Calamari." Then he basically threw his server under the bus. I was pretty floored, anyway, after he left, I just felt like he left a layer of slime all over us. Phil, not sure if you know this, but you are pretty rude and condescending. It is easy to see that the customer is NEVER RIGHT on your shift, you can just tell. My date really wanted that Tuna salad, but we decided that our pride was more important. A manager has to make these things right at the moment of contact. Any manager at McDonalds knows this. Moxie's should hire one of them. You are not selling food at Moxie's Phil, you are providing a place for couples and family/friends to be comfortable, and happy. We go out to relax and let someone else do the work. We DO NOT go out to argue with some middle aged guy who is only trying to show off for his staff. You are missing the whole point of the restaurant industry Phil. You should have done the following after being called to the table by one of your customers: 1. Do not just take what the very busy server says is the problem, come to the table with an open mind and ask what the problem is. 2. Listen Phil, don't talk, just listen. 3. Provide a Resolution. Its not a tough formula Phil, your main problem is that you do not listen, you talk, and you talk over people, at Moxies the slogan is "Phil is Always Right". Next time Phil, just comp the Aps and call it a day, don't try to bring me water after you see us getting up to walk out the door, don't offer to comp the meal after you already refused to fix anything when you had the chance. Be prepared to spend high class dollars on a mediocre meal. Food (.5/3 stars) I went to moxie's with an open mind and no bias. The 1/2 star here is for the ingredients but it makes me so mad that moxie's doesn't capitalize on any of them. When I pay $17 for a salad (more than a lot of high end Italian restaurant) I expect it to be phenomenal. However, the poor ingredients thrown in the salad had no taste and we're gone to waste. The pizza I ordered had what looked like dried spinach????? on top. Was the chef not playing any games and couldn't risk cooking the spinach today? The soup of the day was out of a can. I could taste the metallic chemical structure. And the worst part about all of this is that you spend more money on a pathetic meal here than you would at high class restaurants in the city that are FAR more authentic and delicious. We only got drinks - I was asked if I wanted to Moxy-size my drink and I thought the waitress was cracking wise. She wasn't. The waitresses are attractive. The drink was too sweet and our service was not very responsive. Too much time passes between visits to our table. My friend got wine and he didn't like it (he usually won't stop at one drink but here he did willingly). I don't plan on returning to this place. I would warn you against coming here. The design inside is excellent - great looking modern design. They have plenty of televisions above the bar and they will put whatever game you want to watch on the screen. I have been to Moxies a few times now and while I don't want to like it, it's actually really delicious. First off, I get what they are trying to do, with the hip bar area, beautiful patio area, and the classy dining area - being able to cater to different people, and times of day, is really great! The decorating is pretty awesome, love the light fixtures and seating and general decor, but the eye candy is probably their biggest showpiece. As a woman, I don't see the need for the servers to consist of 99% scantily clad women. Whoever is running this joint is obviously wanting their servers to not be able to bend over for fear of flashing their tops and or bottoms, as if their jobs aren't hard enough, they have to wear 4" heels all day. It makes me wonder who they are trying to cater to. I am all about diversity, first, more men please, and more brunettes! The uniformity of blonde leggy women in short dresses is getting a little stale. That being said, service has always been great, I admire those women for being so quick on their stiletto-clad feet! However.. The food. There truly is something for everyone. Probably the most memorable is their steak (honey garlic sirloin, fab) and twice baked potato which is a solid choice. I have also had their chicken breast with goat cheese and rice and it's so amazing, a great twist on a home cooked favorite. My husband loves their fish tacos but I find it questionable since it comes with a goat cheese and cranberry side salad. Great for late night snacks (their g&t is to die for!), business lunches, and dinners with the fam. I will go back, especially for that chicken, yum! Been to this once when thought be nice to go out for a romantic meal. Let's just say that although the place looks like it is nice on the outside it really is just another expansive bar with no real sparkle. The food was over price and what I got tasted weird but maybe that's just me cause I don't eat food that's been bathed or burned with alcohol. Coming from Alberta I was surprised to find out that there is not a Moxie's on every popular corner. In fact, there is only one in all of Atlantic Canada. That's seems strange to me. In any way, I was very happy when we started to make our way to Moxie's for a little taste of my home town. The atmosphere did not disappoint and has a nice, up-scale style to it. The modern decorating and architecture makes for interesting conversational pieces. They have interesting light fixtures, even though the place doesn't have much light in it. The ambiance is great. Everyone in the party enjoyed their meals. I was a little surprised by the pasta primavera I had, since it was more like a classic tomato sauce, but it was still delicious. They also had a lovely white peach Bellini on for only $3.99 and, man, was it delicious. It was nice to be in a Moxie's again, but it was not nice when the bill arrived. I was definitely surprised to see that my boyfriend and mine's bill had come to almost $80. I don't remember ever spending that much at other Moxie's across the city. We made sure that we were charged correctly and we definitely were. It was just an unfortunately expensive night. read more

I go when I can...I go out of my way to get there! Forget that your in a chain restaurant....walk through the doors...where are you?...Toronto?...Downtown Halifax?..(I wish!!) Nope you are in Dartmouth at Dartmouth crossing!!??...NO FREAKIN WAY!!! I see waitresses in tiny little skirts...surely not Dartmouth??...I see fab lighting effects and a fireplace in the washroom?...REALLY??....as a stand alone place many would give it better marks but sadly some get hung up on the fact that its a franchise...well you know what I say to ya'll...GET OVER IT PRINCESS! :) Moxies offers fresh innovative cuisine at affordable prices...sure they may be following a trend but they darn tootin do it well. I have yet to have a nasty cocktail and have always had a Faboosh meal...albeit the Dessert, while tasty...seem to come back to the same selection as last winter...(Ball DROP...BOING BOING) Good selection..fab atmosphere...just wish I didnt have to cross the harbour (And the travel the highway) to get there! I've worked up the road from this place since it opened and never been til now. It took visiting family who enjoyed Moxies in a different city to convice me to give it a try. After a day of shopping we dropped in without a reservation. I have to admit I felt under dressed and a bit frumpy when I walked in the door and saw the young women who greeted us. Kudos to those scanitly clad young things, they didn't look down their noses or give attitude, they promptly found us a table on the bar side on a very busy Saturday evening. Our server was friendly to our table of women and helped navigate through the specials and menu items. The atmosphere and menu are more casual than I expected given the upscale decor. I was surprised at the varied and reasonably priced options on the menu. For some unknown reason I had been craving a burger so I ordered the Classic burger with Mushrooms & cheddar aded (extra $). Didn't take long before we received our orders. Everyone was pleased with their meals. My burger was a good size, nicely seasoned and juicy. The fries came with basil aioli for dipping whihc was a nice change from ketchup. Now that the ice is broken, I'd have no hesitation to come back for a meal with hubby or a group. I think I'd rather go back to Moxies over the other chain restaurant offerings in Dartmouth Crossing. Seeing how busy it was when we left, I would recommend making reservations if you don't want to wait. read more

Well, well, well. This was my second visit to Moxie's, the first being when they opened a long time ago. Me and my man were in the area and were feeling up to something a little more upper-class than our usual spots. Moxie's it was! Upon walking into Moxie's, you're transported to someplace different. It's not your typical Halifax restaurant, instead feeling more like downtown in a big city. Everyone either complains or compliments the wait staff on their skimpy attire, but they were dressed the same as every other restaurant; all black, no short skirts. The decor is really nice with dark leather and dim lights. Yet it finds itself incredibly comfortable and intimate feeling. Of course the food is what we're here for, and really that's what matters. I have to say, I quite enjoyed the food! Now, I know it's a chain. And you know, that's okay. I have no issue with chain restaurants. I recognize that they won't always provide the most high-quality meals, but that's alright! The food here was good and fresh tasting. I had the sweet chili chicken, which was the right mix of sweet and spicy with delicious chips on the side. My man had the mango-chipotle chicken which was just to die for. Smoky, sweet, a little heat. I appreciate they don't go all out with the spiciness; I like to be able to taste my food. We also had dessert which was a step above the typical pre-packaged desserts many chain restaurants offer. The service was also really nice. Our waitress was attentive, and always there when we needed her. She never took very long, and served with a smile. Everything you could ever want. The only reason I'm giving this place four stars, is because while I did really enjoy it, it didn't blow me away. But that's alright! I'll be back. read more

Moxie's is one of Dartmouth's newest restaurants, and is the first, and currently the only, Moxie's in the Maritimes. I have only been to Moxie's on one occasion and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The restaurant was a little different from most other restaurants that I frequent in that it was a little more posh, and in general seemed to attract a classier crowd, making it feel a little more like a night out, rather than just dinner. It reminded me of a more classy, up-scale Toronto bar, and yet I didn't feel out of place. The prices were reasonable. I had the Louisiana Chicken Club which was quite tasty and reasonably priced around the $12 mark. I would highly recommend going to Moxie's for a dinner date or for a ladies' night out. They do tend to get a little busy, so be patient for a seat, and if you're going as a group, be sure to call ahead first. read more

You don't have to chase them to take things off your bill & Managers often Visit you. Food sensitivities - I have had a few friends who have food allergies. This place takes extra precautions & often gets management involved when people have allergies. They like to double & triple check other foods you might be allergic to. They are happy to see you the minute you get in the door & sometimes even hold the door open. Table turnaround is quick. (You can also go to the lounge & eat if you're in a hurry) Servers - for the most part well kept & I don't really care about how they dress.
