I'm hesitant to post a review because then this little gem will get busier. On our first foray into trailer life we were on our way to San Diego and called for a last minute reservation around 8pm on Saturday night. Ray answered immediately and said that one of his staff would meet us at the gate. Nina was wonderful and helped us get into the place and showed us a great spot to hookup. We were able to get in and get settled without worrying about checking in. In the morning, we took a walk and saw wild turkeys and jackrabbits running around. We were able to hike around the area and enjoy the beautiful views. The location is very quiet and well maintained. There is a pool available to those who stay there as well as horseshoes and frisbee golf. Ray found us the next morning and made sure all was well. It is an amazing place and a really beautiful setting. Do yourself a favor and stay here, you'll be glad you did. read more

This campground would not allow me to have my sister and husband in the park for the day. They said park was full and it would tax their sewer system. They have nothing posted saying you cannot bring a guest. It was just my husband and I staying at campsite. They drove up from El Cajon and were turned away even though I went up and vouched for them. Management hasn't got a clue as we were with a group that had total of 9 trailers. They are going to lose our future business. They were so worried about other people in the campsite they didn't think about us as a paying customer or our satisfaction. Also We reserved our campsite months ago and didn't even get the campsite that they initially gave us. They gave us a different one and it had no fire ring or table...Disappointed camper!!! read more

Most of my camping has been with a tent so I was not sure of what to expect from an RV Park experience. This park is on 160 acres of beautiful high desert hills laden with Manzanita trees and old oak trees in the valleys. The tent area is separate from the RV Park and is very rural with some picnic benches, campfire pits and grilles at the sites along with close access to potable water. All the sites are shaded by lots of large oak trees that provide lots of shade in the day. Just keep in mind that this tent area is small compared to the rest of the park which was my initial first take but after all was set up and we settled in, we quickly forgot about this. There's a sense of peace and calm with all of nature's calls in the wild at your ear that takes over. There's so much birdlife from small birds to blue jays to blackbirds to owls to hawks and we saw them all day long. The mornings are just incredible with bird calls. There was also a family of wild turkeys with baby chicks in tow that passed in and out of our tent area throughout our stay. The evenings offered lots of coyote howls out in the distance from all directions. The stars at night are incredible and Stargazers Plateau was just perfect at sunset offering beautiful colors and miles of mountaintops towards the western horizon. With the sense of separation from the RV Park you are not really. The Park itself is very clean with newly topped roads, clean working bathrooms and showers throughout (easy walking distance), a clubhouse and country store that offers just about anything you really need. I did not use the pool or Jacuzzi but it looked great. This is really a beautiful place amidst beautiful 4,000 ft. country but I have to mention that the staff here really made the stay worthwhile for me. From the time we checked in with Heather and Jai, we immediately felt at ease with their lively spirit and humor. Jai is the Owner and he gave us a quick rundown of the parks amenities and informed us of basic FAQ's. He personally brought us fire wood to our site and gave us assurance that he and his staff were there for anything we needed during our stay. Later in the day, staff member Annette showed up to introduce herself and checked to see if we needed anything. The next day she gave us a tour of the whole park via an off road vehicle to show us the hiking we could do to see the rock formations and how to get back. She was great. The (tent only) entrance fee we paid for our stay was the most affordable I've ever paid anywhere with less than half the amenities this place offers. Their RV and cabin rates are also very affordable. With this in mind we were a miniscule to the potential 100+ other RV'ers that stay here yet we were treated so well and for me this says a lot about what Jai and his staff want everyone to experience when they visit... A great welcome & hospitality to families and friends. I definitely want to come back. read more

Well, My wife and I called ahead of time before we made the exhausting trip way out to east county to see this park...we live in San Diego. We pretty much knew what they had because we did our homework over the phone with Jai. When we got there we were greeted by "Jai" (sp), pronounced Ji. Everything was going well until I started to confirm what he and I had talked about over the phone. All of a sudden our price had doubled. I asked Jai why this was the case and he explained "oh I thought you had a smaller RV than that. I reminded Jai that we had just had a conversation regarding this subject about 1/2 hour earlier and that he was certainly aware of exactly what was said and agreed to...I'm only confirming what we already talked about, I told him. It was then that Jai started raising his voice and pounding the table telling my wife and I to "GET THE F**K out." Yes....in those words; and he said it twice! My wife was quite shaken as she has never been spoken to in this way. She started to cry with fear and at this point we left. The man down right lied to us and I still don't know why. He was rude and snotty for NO reason. We had come along way and when we got there, we were treated terribly. Needless to say we wouldn't stay at this park IF THEY PAID US! GS read more

Now Im sure the campground is awesome......I am reviewing for their business aspect!!! 6-sets of families looking into spending time during the memorial day weekend. Sites paid and reserved. We even received confirmation. We get a call yesterday 5/5/15, saying that there's been a mistake and the site WE PAID for was already booked. WTF!!!! We don't care if you have a new reservation system. LAME ASS EXCUSE! Even I know if you go live with a new system, you monitor it to make sure you are aware of any problems. Buts its been weeks since WE SAT in front of your rep, while you checked the system to make sure its available. I would of been okay IF YOU GUYS called the following day and said you made a mistake. But its been weeks!!!! You now offer us left over areas that is not sufficient for our elderly members! With so close to the date ALMOST all the sites around SD are taken. Do I sound mad, hell yes! For those of you that will be making future reservations. I would be vigilant about calling weekly or daily to make sure you guys don't get BUMPED by the INVESTORS!!!!!!! Apparently, that's what happened. Investors wanted the bunks! so we paying customers get bumped. read more

We were so looking forward to staying here over the Memorial weekend. We had even gone up several months prior to check out the campground and thought it was very nice, but the way the park was run was so disappointing. We had 14 spots between all the family that was camping and we won't be back. My son and his girlfriend had rented one of the trailers for 3 days. When they got there, there was a bucket in the middle of the trailer to catch rain. The refrigerator wasn't working, they ran out of propane and to top it off, they found some dirty underwear behind a cushion. THAT IS NASTY! No offer of compensation or anything was given. On Saturday, management turned away family that had driven from El Cajon and wouldn't let them come in. They were just going to visit for the day and would have been more than willing to pay a day use fee or something like that but even with pleading from family they wouldn't let them in. There was nothing in the 3 pages of rules that said visitors were not allowed. And then with tons of people in the park using off road vehicles on the trails all weekend long, our group was told that those trails were for hiking and horses only. What about all the other off road vehicles? The campsite near us said that they were friends of management and we saw them on off road vehicles along the small trails. That rule must not apply to them. Then to finish the weekend, as my husband and I were leaving, we discovered that someone had siphoned out our diesel fuel from our truck. We had so little left in the tank, we were afraid that we weren't going to make it to the gas station. This was just the final straw. We won't be back! read more

Love it here! Another awesome time away... Rented one of the cabins, made it so easy to just throw in the necessities and forget about pitching the tent. The staff is great, very friendly and helpful. Spent the day laying around the pool, napped in the afternoon...stars at night.. It feels so much farther away than the 60 miles from the city it actually is.. and of course I never mentioned the added bonus of it being just 5 min to the west of the Candy Cottage..Pecan Turtles!!!! and it's about 15 min to the East of Golden Oak Casino...perfect place to spend a few hours during the hottest part of the day. read more

Just amazing park. The staff is amazing. Helpful and there when you need them, but not in your face. Large spaces with full 50 amp service. You can walk trails all day. Very quiet too. Take the time to do the labyrinth, it's interesting and really gives you time to think. Ha! Our new fave spot and close enough to be convenient, but far enough to be 'away'. We stayed here for Labor Day weekend and it was a nice area to stay, but the owner and some of the staff members were very rude. The owner disrespected my fiancé and was really rude to all of us. We bought firewood and they never came to give it to us so we just got a refund. The only thing nice was the bathrooms and the full hookups. Even the neighbors were rude to us. We will never be here again that's for sure. read more

I'm only giving it one star because I have to otherwise I'd give them a fat zero. We stayed there 2 weeks ago and the service was HORRIBLE! The owner was RUDE and CONDESENDING! We overheard how he spoke to other campers at the pool and I couldn't believe he is the owner, he obviously doesn't care about customer service. Then he approached our site later in the evening (6:30pm) to ask that we turn off the music because he prefers classical, not top 40's. We were appalled needless to say. Was driving in late into East San Diego from Arizona and looked up places that had full hook up for the night. This resort is awesome! Someone came and opened the gate at midnight and directed us to a spacious pull through site with hook up. The stars were beautiful and the purity of silence at sacred rock is relaxing. Enjoyed a nice morning walk around the property before heading home. Would defiantly recommend read more

The problems continue from our stay at the Oaks. We recently had a $317. repair to the wiring in our truck which had been chewed. The Oaks is over run with squirrels and evidently they got to our wiring in the truck. I am hoping we do not find similar damage to our 5th wheel. Loved this place but honestly worried about writing such a great review since it would be awesome to keep this hidden gem a secret. Our friends and us are from San Diego. This wasn't too far and the grounds were beautiful. We biked around the perfect loop while other campers waived us by. It was great that while our adventurous kids seeking independence rode around the loop by themselves we parents could keep eye contact on them. We took morning walks to get those steps in. We swam in the pool and relaxed in the jacuzzi. We had amazing campfires while star-gazing. It was blissful. We stayed in RV/trailers but they offer the cutest little cabins that will allow my "glamping" friends to join in future. Yes, for sure we will be back. read more

Wow. This campground has it all. Our senior RV club recently spent a very enjoyable 4 days at Sacred Rocks. We plan on going back later on this year. There are about 160 acres of high desert scenery to explore and enjoy. High desert also means oak trees and shade. The campground is well maintained and the owner and personnel are really nice. They are planning on converting the lower horse arena for horse campers. They will even prepare a meal for your group with advance notice. There is a lovely clubhouse that groups can rent for a moderate price. They also have cabins and RVs for rent. The access roads are paved and there are plenty of nearby sites to visit. I almost forgot to mention that the rates are really reasonable. Oops, do not bring in firewood because of possible bark beetle contamination. read more

Wow! Awesome place to stay. It's not that often we get most of the family together for a weekend getaway. But we managed to pull it off and we just had the best time ever!! Just being able to relax and enjoy the peacefulness this campground offers was everything we wanted. It was so nice meeting Amanda and her wonderful family. Great RV campground. We came with our camping group and were royally treated. JaI is a great host and all who work here are courteous and helpful. My site was great and everything was just about as good as it could be .... WHY ONLY 4 STARS? WI-FI is very unstable and unreliable. The sign-in system looks like it will work great some day, but first, a lot of attention needs to be given to the quality of the signal throughout the park. This has rapidly become my favorite for a high desert getaway. I don't know what the other reviewer did to elicit the reported confrontational event, but my experience with Jai was always extremely positive. He seems to bend over backwards to please. I was invited by a friend to visit and check out the place while a group of friends were camping. When I first pulled in the owner greeted me with a warm welcome. He took the time to have a conversation, give me a map & show me where my friends were. He mentioned he had made lots of upgrades when he bought it about a year ago. It's very obvious the amount of work that's gone into it, I've ne seen such a clean and inviting campground. Great hiking, star gazing, beautiful oak trees and cleanest swimming pool I've ever seen. My take on the owner and staff is tey are very nice and know how to run a business, if someone is breaking the rules they let them know....as it should be to keep everyone happy. read more

We are part of a camping group. My wife and I came in 2 different vehicles and I arrived first. When she arrived I allowed her into enter via the exit. We start unloading our gear and the owner comes flying up on us as fast as a golf cart could go yelling and demanding we go to office immediately. He didn't care what we were doing we must stop and go now because we need a lesson in his rules. Well that pissed me off so I said screw it let's pack up. So other members and wife calmed me down somewhat to stay. I sent wife to go listen to his rules. She walked in and asked if he was the guy yelling. He rudely informed her he wasn't yelling. She calmly replied you know if it weren't for people like us renting a spot he couldn't pay his bills and he needed to remember that. There was no need to come unglued as he did. He took hat off threw at her and lunged at her. Right at that moment another guy not come in when he did he would have attacked my wife. Mind you my wife is disabled and we have a young daughter who was with us. He scared our lil girl into hysterics and attempted to attack a woman. Disabled at that. Not good. My wife said he gave her the impression of women were beneath him. So to Jai you need some serious customer service skills and remember if mama ain't happy no one is! read more

If lots of drama, suspense, and confrontations, are your cup of tea......run, don't walk to this park. Don't bother to reserve a space, they don't understand how to do that ! We saw one rv move to a different space twice because of the park's unique reservation system. We spend 4 months in this park and after 24 years of FULL TIMING we thought we'd seen it all. WRONG. The NEW owner is a New York stock broker and must wonder each morning what he is doing in California in the boonies surrounded by those huge Oak trees. Then he goes to work. He always has new ways to change the park and it's rules. The park has 3 entrance drives and he changed the entrance procedure more times than mathematically possible. One week the Wi-Fi was free and the next week it was fee based. The showers are coin operated and we heard were very very EXPENSIVE. The park is so dark at night one guess fell into a large cess pool that had a loose cover. My wife had reported this problem several days earlier and was required to fill our a ''work order request''. Nothing happened ! The park has a large grass area in the center and rather than have one of the many RUDE workers mow it once in a while the owner bought THREE GOATS (this is no joke) to mow the grass. After several hot months the urine smell drifted thru the park all day. No one on staff had any idea how to care for goats and their situation became a HOT issue. The were constantly crying because they were tangled in their rope lines. Their body waste was picked up regularity and (it was discovered later) was dumped behind a row of fifth-wheels parked on the edge of the property ! Then the owner decided the park needed a fish pond with a small waterfall. The deep pond is protected by a 3 foot wall....mothers, get out the life jackets for those little ones and use them every time they go out the door. The owner asked every new guest if they wanted to be a camp worker since he was going thru them like dominos. Several lasted exacted ONE DAY. Then he would visit every guest and give them a sales pitch to invest $100,000 in the park. No, I don't make this stuff up, If I did I'd be a famous author ! I always paid my rent in cash and he preached to me how most rv parks would not accept cash today. da. Stock Broker ! One minor situation you should take into consideration if staying here several months. Remote, quiet (except for the goats) and pretty scenery.......and 55 miles one way for major shopping in San Diego. The small stores in the area were rip-offs. We drove in every other week and put more planning into those trips than the allies did for the Normandy invasion. The pool and Jacuzzi are NOT HEATED regardless of what your promised. Their is no night security for a very very dark campground, and if you have guest joining you for the week-end the cost is $50,00 per person per night ! Don't believe me, well, pick up the phone and ask. While your talking to them be sure to inquire about those 3 poor goats !!!! Last, but not least , and this one you WILL NOT BELIEVE, (I like to save the best for last, sorry). A year or so ago he had all the dirt roads in the park paved with asphalt at considerable cost. The contract called for the streets to be re-coated after a certain period of time. So the pavers came out later and did their thing....Memorial Day Week-end. No one could drive on them for 12 hours. I have heard rumors that Hollywood is considering making a horror movie about this place. OK, so that's not true, but can you blame me ? ps. He actually had the office girl drive around the park on her golf cart one afternoon and ask every guest if they would do a good review on the park. HELLO ? YELP ? ARE YOU LISTENING ? She quit and he is suing her for breach of contract. read more

Old campground that has been cleaned up a bit We were told that all sites had 50 amp service...not true. Public toilet had not been cleaned in a VERY LONG TIME The pool area was fabulous but was cold...certainly not heated. Original reservations were lost and if I hadn't gone up two weeks before we would have been out of luck. Our group was made up of Police and Fireman and were planning to make this an annual event We were a party of ten.rigs. Next year more than likely 15 rigs or so. Had issues with management on who could use the key cards to get in. With no solution to that problem he spent an hour trying to get us to invest $100,000 in the place. I am sorry we would never go back There are lots of better places in San Diego.LIKE .J Street.Street Marina Chula vista and KOA Chula Vista etc just to mention a few. read more

First off there is nothing exclusive about the The Oaks, while it is a nice campground we were extremely disappointed with our recent stay over Memorial weekend. This was not our first time here, we came last year for Easter and had a great time, but unfortunately things have changed since our last visit. There was a group of 4 trailers who came to stay the weekend with a large group of children. One of the reasons we chose The Oaks was because of the pool and jacuzzi, but unfortunately we were DENIED access because we aren't shareholders! I'm sorry, say what? This totally would have been acceptable if we had known this important information. Nowhere on their website does it say that only shareholders have access to the pool and when we called to make a reservation I think that this kind of information should have been relayed to us. When my sister-in-law called and asked if the pool was available she was told yes it is open so most people would assume green lights were given. After speaking with Jai in person, he told us "yes, the pool is open, that information is correct." well one would think that means we could use it, but he then says minutes after that only shareholders can use it. We were also told that we could be refunded after we pack up and leave if we weren't happy. This man remained very calm, but snuck in little punches here and there. How do you offer amenities on your website but deny important information!??! Bad business in my opinion and they lost 4 family customers in the future. We will not be back. read more

When I first got to the Oaks it was a wonderful place and the staff was very pleasant. I enjoyed taking my dogs around the property and we stayed about three months. One day I was told I had to leave because only "prospective shareholders" or shareholders could stay there monthly. When I asked how much it would cost to become a shareholder they said $100,000!! I can t imagine anyone investing that much in an RV park in the middle of no where! It really bothered me because I felt they were discriminating against me. Anyways I left two weeks later. Can't wait to go back. We 've camped at Sacred Rocks twice and are heading back for Labor Day weekend. We've seen many improvements to the campground and the staff has always been great. Demitri has always been very friendly and helpful. We camped with a group of 5 other RVs and the front office did everything they could to have our sites together. We just love this campground and will be back. Lovely trees, easy access, friendly and helpful staff. My husband and I are full-time RVers, and we have stayed in many campgrounds. It was raining while we were there so unfortunately we didn't get a chance to take advantage of the trails. The owners are investing a lot of time and money into their park, and it shows. I believe there are plans in place for having facilities for horses so that equestrians will have a place to camp and ride. It feels remote, but it's really very close to a major highway. read more

We found a group on for this place so three of my friends and I decided to give it a try. Its a very quiet, peaceful place. We loved eating out side and listening to the birds. We brought our three dogs with us and they loved the miles and miles of trails that we hiked on. I had read some negative remarks about the customer service and we could not disagree any more. When we got there they got in their golf cart and personally showed us to our sites. I told them that I needed propane he took out my tanks filled them and brought them back and put them back in my rv an hour later. They delivered us a boat load of wood for 5 bucks, the pool was spotless but cold. They could not have been nicer or gone out of their way any more. Especially Ray who even helped my friend pull in her rig. I would highly recommend this place for a nice weekend get away. read more

We visited friends in the summer of 2009 and it was fun. BUT!!! We were going to stay again this summer but for a month this time and when we called were told the rates had gone from $490 a month to $675. An almost $200 increase from last year? I couldn't believe it, Do these owners stay on top of the news? The economy is in a pitfall and people are loosing their jobs and homes right and left. And to top it off this is a rustic not upgraded rv camp yet they are charging you almost the same price as many many RV parks in San Diego. The roads in the rv camp are unpaved and the sites rather primitive (all dirt sites) And even though I had fun with my friends one huge draw back was the pool, they allow outsiders to come in and swim. In fact it was so populated with outsiders on the weekend I was there and so noisy we never got to enjoy the pool. A big disappointment since it was over 100 degrees that day. I couldn't figure out or my friends who stay there why the owners do not consider the paying guests as more valuable than outsiders who do not camp in the park and who they charge $5 each and who cause the pool to look murky. Yikes to scary to even swim or step into the hot tub. My friends who stay there say they have given up on even using the pool as the outsiders have taken it over especially on the weekends. The reason my friends like the rv park is they have off road vehicles they ride in the area and in the park so they over look many of the draw backs of Sacred Rocks but are not happy with many things the owners do and have told me because of the rate increase this will probably be their last year there. I wanted to go up and enjoy my friends company as I am from Imperial Valley and Boulevard can get up to 105 degrees just a little cooler than I.V. It's just not worth the rate increase. So, I have decided I am going on in to San Diego for about $730 (only $55 more that Sacred Rocks) and have cool weather, paved roads (dust is always in the air at Sacred Rocks), be near the beach and no outsiders in the pool! I am Sad about the increase in the monthly and daily rates but figure my friends can come into San Diego this summer to visit me. read more

We so looked forward to our family/friends gathering at this campground over Memorial weekend and it was so disappointing. We had 14 spots between the RVs, tents, trailer rentals and cabins and planned on spending many group events there but after the treatment by management to many in our group we will never go back. When we toured the campground months ago and made our reservations we were told we could bring our Polaris Ranger, jeeps, etc. to ride on the trails. Within a day of getting there they said the trails were for hikers and horses only. Our visiting guests who drove up for a few hours were not allowed in to celebrate a birthday for one of the children. We were told the reason was to protect the camping experience for everyone by limiting the number of people in the campground. If that is their policy on guests and their new policy on off road vehicles, they should have informed us before we got there. I hope the camping experience for those few guests you are worried about was worth it because our group and others around us were very unhappy. read more

Unbelievably nice get away without going too far. Salt water pool was excellent. Woodpeckers were in abundance during my stay, I've never seen so many in one place! A hawk hung out near the tent site for bit. I camped in the tent area with my motorcycle. I was there the weekend before Memorial Day, it was kind of quiet, nice change for me, I am used to being around lots of off roading and motorcycles when I camp, this place reminds me of why I started to camp in the first place. Heidi was incredibly nice as well as the other staff I met. Other campground visitors were friendly and greeted me. I've camped all over the so cal desert and for a nice break from roughing it and actually having shade you can't beat this! You are getting away from it all without going too far if you stay here. Not a lot of dining options nearby, there are some but hours are limited, (on motorcycle not much I can do) I got to campground later in day but managed to bring back lasagna and ravioli from Manzanita diner without smooshing it too badly! Golden Acorn isn't too far away either. You need quarters for the showers if you are not in RV, but clean bathrooms, nice amenities. Staff works very hard here. read more
