A great pit stop for senior road trippers. As I've aged I've noticed that I sometimes need a restroom break more urgently than I did 10 years prior. BUT you're not interested in my challenges, so let's talk about Buckman Springs Roadside Rest Area.It is great spot to pull over for a nap, to stretch your legs, enjoy a picnic or visit the restroom. First it was great to have a baby changing station! Everything felt safe, facilities seemed clean. Toilets flushed, there was soap and air dryers. TP could have been softer, but at least there was some! Nice alternative to using a gas station restroom of which there really weren't any nearby. read more

One of the maintenence men used a weed wacker on the sides of my vehicle today. It was throwing little rocks and hitting my vehicle. He could have waited a few minutes till I left. That was so disrespectful, and I have a new vehicle that I worked hard for. I'm so disappointed. There's always about 3 or 4 men riding around in the golf cart, and I noticed the family restroom is always closed. Many families with small children who can benifit from using the facility aren't, and I don't seem to notice a valid reason. read more

Looked online for an RV dump station, said Buckman springs has one. Maybe it's time to update your information. Wasted fuel and have an even longer road trip to El Centro. Terrible! read more

It does the job. Not like other rest spots with vending machines. Restrooms are cleaned and stocked. They have picnic tables for if you brought lunch. Alot of parking. Where are the squirrels like the one on 15 South rest spot in san diego area? Over all. It did its purpose is to stretch and gonto the restroom. read more

This recently remodeled (and re-opened) rest stop is a big improvement over the old one. Plenty of free parking (up to 8 hours to catch a nap), good, clean, operating toilets. Cold well water, and places for RVs to dump. One beef - the old rest stop had a really cool kiosk with information and pictures depicting the history of Buckman Springs. It is always nice to know a little bit about the place you are stopping. Particularly why this is called a "springs". In the general area are a number of old buildings and foundations from the original water works and bottling plant that was located in this valley. Don't hesitate to stop here on the way to the desert! read more

Great rest stop, quite a bit off the freeway to keep the noise down from the freeway. Kind of secluded in a creepy sort of way but the place is well kept. I would stop here again and I suggest you give it a go if you are passing through. read more

This rest area is currently under reconstruction renovations and is temporarily "CLOSED" it is scheduled to reopen on January 1st 2011. I love to stop at this rest area whenever I am traveling from San Diego to the desert or vice verse. It sits at about 3000 feet in elevation so on a hot summers day the temps are usually mild here. In the winter, it gets a dusting of snow which makes it a nice place to take a drive up the hill and park while taking in the majesty of the cold and icy air. Like most every other rest area in California this place is no exception, the state has been completey rebuilding our rest areas from the Mexican border to the Oregon trail. I thought that we were broke here in California? It's interesting how Federal and State money gets allocated, dilapidated schools and brand new art deco style rest stops. Yeesh... read more

Pat was amazing and makes the best and cleanest rest stop in the country. Exit 51 or Area 51 on the I-8. You will not be disappointed.

Nice place to take a break on a long road trip. Really pretty place in the mountains with easy in and easy out from the freeway.

Awesome 70s era California Rest Stop- worth checking out- bathrooms were very clean with a foot flush.

I guess I have to say as far as rest areas go they'll never really be ranked more than four stars just because they are in fact that rest areas restrooms this one is clean always for a rest area were hundreds of people go in and use the restroom area to be a little bit cleaner but I'll take that over the next three rest areas on your way towards Arizona. Oh, it's in kind of a pretty area which wasn't so pretty when I was a kid because he used to be able to go shooting there and let's just say if you took a metal detector you could certainly go into business recycling brass. great place to rest on the way home from the desert or the river. It also has a dumping station for your motorhome, problem is, there is usually a line because everyone knows about it. For a number of years I never stopped here because I was used to the fact that it was closed and even after they reopened it I never bothered to stop. But lately, I have been stopping here. Last time was in the winter when the air outside was right about 32 degrees and you could see people run from their cars to do their thing and then run back to their cars and GTFO. LOL. Now I just stopped by recently in the summer and it was 100 degrees and pretty much same thing - get in, do your thing, get out and leave. Lingering is not an option in that kind of heat. I like that there are two sides of the rest area you can park at. If the side you initially enter from is too crowded you can keep driving and circle back on the other side and there is always more empty parking spaces on the other side. Bathrooms are clean. They actually have mirrors. They also have those metal urinals like they have in prisons. That is, based on documentaries I've seen. About prisons. But anyway - this is usually my last IP address before San Diego. It's also a great last chance to dispose of any bodies or contraband in the trunk before facing the border patrol goons and their sniffing dogs. read more
