Authentic steak house, such a perfect experience for my bestie birthday, gentleman server with fantastic service Love their vibes, steak made absolutely medium, great job, definitely back soon again and again :) Thanks for birthday treat to my friend

Classic steakhouse in Thornhill. As an institution of the city for over 30 years The Octagon has always delivered on quality and service. The steaks here are amazing, made perfect every time. Incredible wine selection to be made note of. The decor is very classic with wood finishings and excellent staff in classic black tie. Worth a stop.

    Cheesecake....loved the strawberry topping!

We came to celebrate our friend's birthday. A beautiful place to have a grown up dinner! Steaks were tasty, but could have been plated better. Terrible presentation. Underwhelming, could have been prettier with a few flicks of sauce. Check out the pics Desserts made up for it though! A great place for a nice dinner!

Prime rib (octagon cut) meaning 24 ounce

Last night went to The Octagon with parents, this restaurant is very unique outside but inside is very elegant and historic feel The servers was so polite, he even pulled the table for me to walk in and sit. They started us with garlic bread, a plate of pickles, olives and bell peppers which was very good, to open ip everyone's appetite with some sour starters Then I ordered a green salad, crab cake, prime rib (octagon cut) and a filet mignon. The salad was green with balsamic which was my usual, the crab cake was crispy and tasty Then the prime rib (octagon cut) meaning approx 24 ounce which I shared with my dad. Wow when the steak came to the table, it was big...very juicy as we cut into it. The 8 ounce filet mignon was cook to perfection. Nice and crispy on the outside, cut to see the inside was medium rare.

We were looking for takeout choices for Christmas Eve dinner and decided to try this place this year. The food quality was completely disappointing, especially at a price of $100+ per person. The cooking was missing some basic flavouring and temperature control skills that even many cheaper chain restaurants such as moxie or Joeys can offer. We ordered the following items: - Caesar salad: Terrible. Supermarket salads' sections definitely offered much better and fresher salad than this place. The lettuce 2as completely dried up. - Crab cake: flavourless and he usual expected scent expected of this dish is completely missing. - Escargot: Portion is small. It tastes dry. - Appetizer BBQ rib: The one we bought from supermarket was much better than this one. The portion was small and ribs tasted completely dry. The flavour was all on the surface. - Lobster bisque: it tasted like canteen food. It was so watery and flavourless. - Baked oyster: The oyster didn't taste fresh, it was overbaked a little bit and the buttery and heavy chunk of "sauce" was completely split up from the oyster itself. Horrible dish. - Live lobster: It was overcooked a little bit. Portion was smaller than we expected. - Scallop: flavourless. - Chocolate mousse: Again. Nothing worth remembering. Overall, none of the dish were bearable, and they charged you super expensive price which was ridiculous. I won't recommend this place to anyone.

I spent my teens driving by this interesting rustic looking steakhouse but never tried it until recently. They are a long standing establishment serving the York Region community for over 30 years and has apparently stuck to the same menu throughout the years. The food was very simple and basic though it was mostly tasty! My favorites included: BBQ ribs starter: this was broiled and drenched in their homemade bbq sauce, it had so much flavor and a hint of sweetness Shrimp cocktail: these shrimps were absolutely massive, like mini lobsters and the homemade cocktail sauce was delicious too King crab legs: served with garlic butter, you can't ever go wrong with that What fell short: Dover sole meunière: I found this to have fell a bit flat, there was some flavour but not enough Oysters: They were fresh but however missing a mignionette (which I think is essential) Overall, I have some mixed feelings about them not changing or being innovative with their menu. For a "no-frills" steakhouse experience, you can expect consistent and tasty food, however if you want an elevated premium experience I wouldn't say this was it.

But when Toronto…read moreLife hosted a special TL Insider dinner ($225 per person, inclusive of taxes and gratuities), curiosity won out. The prices listed below reflect the regular menu, though portions at the event were likely smaller than standard service. The evening began with a beef skewer ($31), featuring cubes of barbecued beef glazed in teriyaki and topped with plenty of chives. Unfortunately, consistency was an issue. Other guests raved about how tender theirs were, while mine arrived overcooked. It wasn't inedible, but it certainly wasn't tender. One of the restaurant's newer additions is its aged fish program, so I was eager to try the dry-aged salmon ($33). Listed as a "crudo," I expected delicate slices in a citrusy sauce, but it arrived as another skewer. The texture was undeniably smooth, with the dry aging removing any chewiness, but the salmon also developed a gaminess that lingered unpleasantly. A marinade or thinner slicing might help balance things out. I'm glad their signature Caesar salad ($24) remains excellent. It's beautifully balanced with acidity, savouriness, and thoughtful touches like buttery breadcrumbs and bacon bits that aren't rock hard. It's still one of the better Caesars in the city, though tableside preparation now costs an additional $10. Fans of tartare will likely appreciate the beef tartare ($41), which is prepared traditionally with minimally dressed hand-cut beef. Personally, I wanted more contrast in texture or flavour, though tartare has never been my go-to dish. I did appreciate the accompaniments of buttery crostini and gem lettuce leaves, which offered a lighter way to enjoy it. And for fans like me, don't worry their cheese bread puffs still make an appearance (along with their take home chocolate muffins). What continues to shine at Jacobs is the steak itself. The 40-day dry aged striploin was cooked beautifully, developing a crust that locked in the juices while maintaining tenderness despite being a leaner cut. The seasoning is more restrained, which allowed the volcanic sea salt and chimichurri on the side to actually enhance the beef rather than overwhelm it. The pecorino broccolini ($22) had me almost finishing off the plate and is such a nice accompaniment with the rich beef. The only disappointment was the duck fat fries ($21), which arrived lukewarm and slightly stale, likely a casualty of serving a packed dining room. Dessert ended the evening on a high note. The crème brulee ($21) was fantastic with visible vanilla bean specks throughout the silky custard. The sugar topping was thin and delicate, avoiding that overly sweet crunch some versions suffer from. Served alongside a sizeable chocolate biscotti and a fragrant orange shortbread cookie, it's easily large enough to share. With the expanded dining room, the front-of-house team has clearly grown as well. The staff is younger and fresher-faced, so any old-school steakhouse stuffiness has largely disappeared. More importantly, the service remains polished and attentive, and we were well taken care of throughout the evening.

We ordered a bunch of things to share and the table ended up being full pretty quickly. Rock shrimp to start, truffle fries with truffle aioli, a wagyu caesar salad, half roasted chicken, and king oyster mushrooms. Everything was good, but the rigatoni completely stole the show. Creamy, spicy, perfectly cooked pasta and one of those dishes where you keep going back for another bite even when you're already full. Drinks were solid too. The Pornstar Martini and the Hot & Bothered were both great and fit the vibe of the place. The space feels polished but still lively, especially around the bar. Definitely the kind of spot that works for a night out, drinks with friends, or a late dinner. If you go, do not skip the spicy vodka rigatoni. I would come back just for that.

The modern, chic decor sets a wonderful ambiance, and the service was immediate and welcoming. The food was spectacular from start to finish. We started with fresh, warm bread, followed by a flavorful seafood gumbo loaded with meat, and a generous portion of two lightly breaded crab cakes. For our mains, the 10oz ribeye and 8oz tenderloin were seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection--compliments to the chef! They came with a lovely side of baby potatoes and vegetables. We capped off a perfect meal with a warm pecan tart and ice cream. I highly recommend coming here. There are specials that change weekly. The interior is decorated with New Orleans memorabilia, medium lit, cozy (not large), with jazz music in the background. Service was attentive and friendly. They operated for 30 years at their old location. This location soft-opened on 2026-02-12. We came on 2026-02-25 for dinner. There were still some furnishings to complete (there were unforeseen delays). They kept the same menu offerings but it will be expanded within a month. We ordered the following: 1. Citra Terre D'Abruzzo Pinot Grigio - Italy (glass $14.95). 2. Coke. 3. Crab Cakes ($19.95). 4. New Orleans Shrimp Cocktail ($19.95). 5. Jambalaya Aranchini (weekly special). 6. Blackened Lamb Chops (weekly special). 7. New Orleans Fisherman's Plate ($39.95). 8. Pecan Pie warmed with Ice Cream ($14.95). 9. Bananas Foster ($14.95). 10. Beignet ($14.95). Every dish had an excellent presentation. We spent a lot of time taking photos and videos. What did you expect from me?! We loved all the dishes! The portions were large! There are more staff than in the previous location, allowing the service to be excellent. They tend to have many loyal and returning customers. Every table starts with freshly baked bread and butter. The bread was so fresh! The three appetizers tasted good. They each had a little kick due to creole cuisine. I loved the shrimp the most. The Blackened Lamb Chops was perfectly cooked. Each of the four pieces were very tender, accompanied by a delicious sauce. The dish had some very nicely cooked seasonal vegetables: roasted potatoes, a red pepper, string beans, a broccoli, and a carrot. This dish will be put into their regular menu in the near future. The New Orleans Fisherman's Plate is great if you want a little sampling of their seafood: Blackened Fish, Cajun Calamari, and Coconut Beer Shrimp. It also comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. The fish was so good! We brought some home for my mom and she really loved it. The Coconut Beer Shrimp was on top of a Orange Marmalade Sauce, which is really liked. The three desserts looked really good and tasted good. I loved the pecan pie the most. They can split dishes in half in the kitchen and serve them on two dishes for two people to share. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients and spices to create authentic Creole and Cajun tastes. Everything is made in-house except for bread and butter. In the near future, their bread will be made in-house too. Currently, there is only indoor dining but they are looking into the possibility of sidewalk outdoor dining. Mike Djurdjevic runs the front of the house while his wife, Mira Djurdjevic, operates the kitchen. Their son, Marko, also helps in the front of the house. There is a large pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They will be introducing creole pizza in the near future. There is a separate large room for events, parties, etc. This room will be ready in the near future. They also do catering. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible, and one female washroom. Thrre is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-037
