Though there are a number of different campuses of The Ohio State University, the large campus that most people not familiar with ASU think about is the Columbus Campus. This campus offers a liberal arts college feeling with many with many buildings, students, staff, faculty, and resources. Similar to many other large campuses or schools across the country, it feels like it is always under construction as new buildings, athletic facilities, and residence halls are built each year. As Ohio State is one of the largest public universities in the country, there is something for everyone whether in-person or online. At Ohio State, every student has the potential to feel connected with resources and it there is certainly always something happening whether at the Ohio Union, at the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC), or in the residence halls or any of the athletics facilities including the Horseshoe (Ohio Stadium). More than 14,000 students live on-campus, and the majority of about 67,000 Ohio State students take courses on the Columbus Campus. While campus resources are easily located in the Ohio Union and Lincoln Tower, many other buildings across the Columbus Campus have academic offices or other student services. The Ohio State staff, faculty, and partners certainly try to do everything they can to support all of the students to ensure they are set up to succeed at Ohio State. Originally founded as only a fraction of the Columbus Campus of today in 1870, the campus has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. Even a student who graduated just over 20 years ago, I am surprised in what the campus looks like today. In fact, I just visited campus for the first time in many years last month and barely recognize parts of campus. Even now, big construction projects include the Mirror Lake District Renovation, North Residential District Renewal, and multi-phase William Oxley Thompson Library Renovation. In fact, as of 2022, there were more than 1400 current construction projects in the works across all Ohio State campuses. As the campus continues to grow, the number of buildings on campus continue to increase. In addition to more commonly visited areas like the Oval, the Ohio Union, and the RPAC, there is the Thompson Library and Ohio Stadium. There is also the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, the Orton Geological Museum, Mirror Lake, the Arne Slettebak Planetarium, Buckeye Grove, the Schottenstein Center, and so many other spots. My regular places to have visited when I was a student were Ramseyer Hall (where I took most of my classes), Taylor Tower, Mack Hall, and Bradley-Paterson residence halls. At Ohio State, every student can drive their own experience as they engage in the events and resources on-campus while attending classes, getting an on-campus job, landing an internship or full-time job, joining clubs and organizations, attending many free events and activities, and so much more. The many student services offices at Ohio State are always there for students, and it's easy to find your way towards graduation and your future when taking advantage of these resources. Went to school her a few years back. Incompetent counselors who didn't know what courses counted towards what credits forcing me to take multiple additional courses. An aggressive ticketing service with unreasonable fines for unclear parking rules. Professors who care more about the image of teaching rather than helping students succeed, and don't get me started on the calculus classes taking place in literal theatres filled with students with smaller classes taught by students who simply do not care if you succeed or fail. The school cares more about how much money it can get out of you than it cares about your success. read more

Really beautiful campus! Lots of older buildings but they've got a few new, modern ones. They are still building more housing for students! Crazy! This campus is already huge with about 60,000 students. It's the third largest in the nation. I can't imagine going to undergraduate here. It's too busy and chaotic. The school brings in the diversity to the city although it's not enough. Still, you can make some great connections here and I'm sure you could bond with anyone whose gone to school here. Lots of great resources and so many majors and graduate programs to choose from. The library is really pretty and John Glenn College is one of the most updated on campus. Make sure you check out campus if you visit Columbus. Football games are also a blast! read more

The Ohio State University (OSU) is a top rated University in Columbus, Ohio. I received my Bachelors degree in Economics with a minor concentration in Communications from OSU. ACADEMICS - As the 4th largest university in the USA, you can expect a rigorous education from top notch Professors. The Fisher College of business is a top school along with the Engineering, Architecture, Chemistry, and Law departments. The renowned Wexner Center for the Arts brings in exceptional shows and works of art. As a student, you'll have hundreds of major areas of study to choose from with guidance from an academics advisor. When you graduate, you will do so with a degree from an established institution. Keep in mind that since I graduated, it has become harder to get excepted into OSU so fair high school grades will not cut it. This University is competitive to be admitted into and also now more expensive. WORLD PRESENCE - Open your mind to different viewpoints right here at OSU. Thousands of local and international students attend and graduate from this institution every year. My brother once said, "where else will you find a Chinese, Australian, Indian, Indonesian, Nigerian, Japanese, and American living and working in the same place?" You'll find them all here at OSU. Infact, I lived with students from these countries during my first and second year as a student. The dorm experience with students from different backgrounds was wonderful. In addition, plenty of Professors including visiting Professors come from different countries as well. CAMPUS - big and beautiful with about 60,000 total undergraduate and graduate students. The newer academic buildings are beautiful with the older ones still charming. For incoming students, you will love this campus. I specifically love the main oval, the Ohio Union (student union) and the recently renovated Mirror Lake. I have so many memories walking from south campus to north campus while passing friends and Professors along the way. There is definitely a welcoming community created here on this big campus. I love big cities so the size of the campus did not overwhelm me too much when I was a student here. STUDENT LIFE -- Dorms: Whether you live in the dorms or off campus, you will definitely feel connected to other students and meet a ton of great people. So many activities are planned in the dorms (with free food) so you will always have a chance to meet new people. I met one of my best friends at the International House (I-House) floor of Morrison Tower, a south campus dorm. Although she now lives back home in Hong Kong, we still communicate today and we even had a reunion trip in 2015 in Beijing, China where we met up with another OSU friend who lives in Taiwan. I lived in Morrison Tower for 2 years (a year in the international house on the 4th floor and a year in the all female floor on the 7th floor). I also worked at the front desk as an Office Assistant for most of my time there. I had a great experience living in the dorm. There are so many other dorms to choose from both in north and south campus and I know the towers are a bit nicer (Morrill and Lincoln Tower). Student Organizations: There are so many student organisations to choose from to help you work on your leadership skills. OSU is known for its Division 1 athletic teams (football, gymnastics, etc) but there are less competitive Intramural sports teams as well for students to join. I spent alot of time playing tennis outside the large recreational center. The famous Marching Band is really awesome too. WHY OSU? One advantage of attending such a large University is the diversity of opinions you will encounter which helps foster a well rounded education. Don't forget all the free food that seem to pop up everywhere around campus too. I throughly enjoyed my 3 years here and I'm filled with nostalgia anytime I return to Columbus and visit campus. At Ohio State, I earned my fourth degree, a bachelor of science in nursing. I earned my degree online, so I did not have to visit the campus in person, but I still stopped by a couple of times to see the large, beautiful campus. As you know, Ohio State is a highly ranked tier-1 research university. As a student, I felt very happy with the quality of the professors' instruction. The professors communicated almost entirely online, but they were thorough and prompt in presenting information to students and answering questions. The professors also did an excellent job of incorporating research and scientific literature into their classes. Finally, as an out-of-state resident, I actually saved money to attend Ohio State rather than a university in my own state. Having attended three universities in the North East for my undergraduate and graduate degrees, I feel I have some basis of comparison when evaluating universities. As a father of two children, my son went south to Virginia Tech and my daughter went to the Midwest, specifically, The Ohio State University. Choosing a university for my kids allowed me to see another sixteen universities and compare. The freshman dorm facilities at The Ohio State University are exceptional. The campus is upbeat, spacious and well maintained with a mix of old and modern buildings. Columbus is a fairly large city but has a small town neighborhood vibe. It's the Midwest "Don't You Know". The tuition is less then half of what I paid for my education. Networking is also a major plus with the exception of Ivy league schools and other large universities of this country, The Ohio State University has an enrollment of 50,000 + students and offers networking opportunities in spades. As a top research university it is highly respected especially in the sciences and medicine. There are study abroad programs, internships and advanced degree programs too numerous to list. If life is about opportunities, The Ohio University exemplifies opportunity. Looking for something to do when your not studying, there are plenty of clubs, parties and epic tailgating at football games, The Ohio Theater and Short North area feature restaurants, bars and shopping and are only a ten minute walk from campus are other outlets. The university has it's own bus system and it runs late. The Ohio University has a strong sense of pride, tradition and a rich history which some students are not familiar with and other students are not comfortable with. Yes, some lower level courses have lecture halls of 300+ students but as you progress in your studies 25 students per class is the norm. Ahhhh, there sure are some perks to being a scout for Yelp...I had the authority to go in and change it to: THE Ohio State University. That's better. I think it's great that so many people from outside of Ohio have reviewed OSU and still think it's great - you don't even have to attend college here to become infected with Buckeye Pride! As for me, I attended OSU for 5 wonderful years! I loved it! There are some downsides here and there, but all in all I had a really good experience. I lived in the Neil Building on campus, and boy was I lucky. I'd been in many of the other residence halls and they were old and smelly. Neil was brand new, and I was in rooms with 3 other girls, where we had our own full-size kitchen with a dishwasher, living room, and you shared a bedroom and bathroom with one other person. It was awesome as far as dorm living goes. It didn't really feel like a dorm, but it still had that dorm feel. Guys are girls were on the same floor and drinking was allowed in our building. The building was for grad students and honor students, but I think now the basketball players live there. I'm not sure how I'd feel if I didn't get to live there, but I suppose I probably would have chosen to live off campus. I loved how you rarely had to leave campus for anything - it was like its own mini-city within the city. But that made it really easy if you didn't have a car. You could walk to the store - Aveda's hair salon was even right across the street from my dorm! There were restaurants right there on campus, as well as many of the dining hall options. The Marketplace, a nice campus dining hall, was on the first floor of my building. Of course, once I did bring my car to campus it was hell. I paid about $350 for a parking pass for the year, but I did get to park my car at a lot right across the street from my dorm and leave it overnight. I guess it's nice that I had the option, I just wish it wasn't so expensive. There was always parking at night, but during the day I might drive around for an hour trying to find a spot since so many students drove to campus to go to class. Personally, I think that's ridiculous. If you need to go to OSU for any reason, but especially everyday for class - find a way to walk! OSU offered a lot of helpful services. I frequently visited my career advisor and he was really great at helping me get internships during college. OSU has the greatest gym, the RPAC, equipped with everything you might need for a great workout. There were all kinds of study rooms and resources, and the Younkin Success Center offered tutoring and helpful tips. The library was also awesome. It was pretty easy to get your hands on any book you needed. Since OSU is a state school, it really wasn't that expensive, and although I'll be paying off my student loans for quite some time, I know it could have been a lot worse. And how about those Buckeyes? It's so great going to a school where people have so much pride in their team. OSU is crazy about their athletics, but in a good way. Nothing beats tailgating and get going to a game in the Shoe, then celebrating OSU's win at the bars on High St. This is the life of an OSU student. Since OSU is so huge, there's always something going on. There are groups and clubs for just about anything, and I'm talking aside from sororities and fraternities. The Oval is a great place to check out what's going on because that's where a lot of campus activities go on, or people just like to hang out and throw frisbees. OSU has a pretty campus, and I'm particularly thinking of Mirror Lake and Ohio Stadium. Mirror Lake is really peaceful (aside from the night hundreds of students jump in it before the Michigan game) and families of ducks reside here. Ohio Stadium is just a beautiful structure. There are some real downsides to OSU. If you don't like big campuses, you wouldn't like this. But I found that I very often ran into people I knew. Like I mentioned, I'd rather chew nails than try to park on campus, and once you graduate, they keep mailing you donation forms. I've spent enough money there, and I'll be paying it off for years, thanks. It's also a pain to talk to people in the offices since they're so busy. If you call an office, like Housing or something, you're on hold for half an hour. Everyone's usually really nice when you do finally talk to them, though. As a grad, I hate how we have to pay $7 for each transcript copy. In some ways OSU is crazy with charging you for things. I had plenty of smaller classes, but I know some of them are insanely huge. That's not my thing so I tried to stick to the non-popular classes. It's a great school. They offer a wide variety of majors, so if you are picking out a college, especially if you live in Ohio, think about it. At least you wouldn't have to pay out-of-state tuition! read more

I am boycotting writing this review. I did not attend Ohio State University. I graduated from THE Ohio State University. If the THE wasn't a big deal than every football player introducing themselves on Monday Night Football wouldn't take the extra half a second to dramatically overemphasize the THE. Don't get me wrong, I L O V E OSU. When I was still on-schedule for graduating after 3 years I decided I had to slow down the pace a bit before I was forced into the real world. I proceeded to take one or two classes a quarter for the next 2 years. I even took one class twice, despite the fact that I got a B+ in it (Hey, I liked it AND it was great practice for my intended profession). OSU has given me some of the finest times of my life, some of my best friends and just about all of my crazy party stories. If I had to do it all again I wouldn't change a thing, except maybe I'd make it take 6 or 7 years this time... read more

I generally dont like OSU. I feel like I am getting a great education here. My advisor and professors are great and I've never had any issues with unfairness or inequality. All of my professors have been very accommodating with Disability Services as well. However....it's a very expensive state school. The entire state shuts down on football days and it's painfully hard for them to salt/plow when it's icy and they never cancel class. Overall, it's overcrowded and they should seriously consider not admitting so many students on such a small main campus. I've had two classes this semester in the smallest bedrooms (I mean, classrooms) that are hot and packed. The buses are packed and don't come often enough. The parking is a WHOLE new animal... you pay for parking but you're not guaranteed a spot and they also sell said parking for events so... good luck. And when these events do happen, the buses run even more slowly because a lot of them are used a shuttles to and from parking lots to event sites. read more

OSU. My alma mater. Maybe not quite the heart of Columbus but very very close. I went there years ago, and got a great education. The history department is great, as are many other departments. It's big enough to have many specialties. I lived in the stadium and had all sorts of fun there. The campus... you know, the oval, the library, and all the other buildings are cool, especially during the summer when all the students aren't there. OSU has grown, though that doesn't seem possible. Still obviously has a huge influence on the city, with sports, research, students coming and staying as I did, and all the professors, events, etc. Check out the airport and the farms if you're getting bored or overwhelmed with the main campus. Ohio State University is an experience everyone who comes here should feel and be a part​ of. I'm a first year English Major at OSU and I've never been happier about my direction and purpose in life until​ attending this University. I'm making my dreams a reality as my vision to become an author and successful entrepreneur​ unfold before my eyes, forming me into a leader. I've been writing​ a book series about mermaids for six years now, finally finishing book one and making an outline for book two and three before the school year started. I'm from Columbus, Ohio and attended University​ of Cincinnati​​ last year for Graphic Design as I wrote the end of the book with massive writer's​ block. However, on September 27th,​ 2017 I got into a really bad car accident on the way to drawing class. I was in the hospital for 8 days, I broke my pelvic bone​ in three places also rupturing my spleen. My accident took three months to heal from having to use a walker and then two months to relearn how to walk again. As I stayed up in the hospital bed, listening to the beeping​ machines and needles in my skin, I remembered OSU being a college option that I'd missed the deadline to apply for. I had to drop out due to the gravity of my accident (without penalty​). While I mended loved ones dried my tears, saying that now I could finish my book with all of my spare time and go to OSU, and I listened to them. I redirected my life during those months off and wrote the end of my book. I stayed busy and took it as a sign from the universe to actually follow my dreams and become a Buckeye​ and now I'm here and I can feel them coming true! The Ohio State​ University Campus is home to an intense charge of knowledge​, innovation, ​and friendship found within the smiles of all. It's an experience​ that you just have to go there to feel and see, but its totally worth the trip! Trust me! read more

I wasted a lot of my life at OSU. Now I will waste the rest of it carrying around the debt. I have to admit I have no basis of comparison, but from what I have heard not every college is like Ohio State. In my experience, this school is a bureaucratic nightmare, with one hand having no idea what the other is doing, and students being the "fallguys" for administrative mistakes and bullshit. Trying to get anything done is exasperating! Running from department to department to resolve a minor issue is common and students are often treated like scum by department workers. Advisors are practically worthless, offering little to no practical advice and, in fact, misleading students frequently. In particular, financial advisors encourage amassing debt, even in the face of pursuing a useless minimum wage degree. The Trustees, who are responsible for University policy, are a bunch of industry elites who are out of touch with reality and incapable of making decisions for the good of students. They should all be booted out and replaced by people who actually have an interest in the students and the pursuit of education, rather than schmoozing in the old boys club. Censorship is all too common, as industry has its hands in many of the departments and exerts pressure over professors and administrators to lick the ass of big business, sometimes at the expense of academic integrity and student well-being. Many of the professors do not care about teaching, especially if they have tenure-- they just go through the motions because it is part of what they have to do. There are some great professors, but they are not the majority and you will run into few of them during your college career. Many professors have bad attitudes and make no effort to be organized, clear, and fair to students. OSU is fond of wasting money building ugly, impractical buildings that are inefficient and not user-friendly, but very modern and cool looking on the outside. I'd rather they invest this money into preservation of historic spaces and educational programs low on funding. If your interests lie in partying, football fanaticism, political apathy, and bullshitting your way through college just to appease mommy and daddy, you might be happy at OSU. If I had it to do over again, I would not choose OSU. I would have chosen a college that emphasizes learning, provides hands-on educational opportunities, and tells the truth about career prospects and paths associated with the degree you are pursuing. read more

Ah Ohio State... There is some true pride right here. I'll be honest, I'm not really into football. When I'm in the middle of my grocery shopping, and someone shouts, "O-H!!!!" I'm not really willing to drop all my shitz on the ground to scream "I-O!!! HEEHEE" Sorry, not that kinda person. The campus is really beautiful though, not gonna deny that. It's freaking huge, they say it takes 12 minutes to get from one side of the campus to the other.... but.. it took me like 30 minutes. Okay I have short legs but you know, I walk fast.. Got lost like a bitch in the forest. And I had a map and a GPS in my phone. To be honest with you, I only applied to this school because my flaky friend asked me to apply here..Wait, asked me? More like he begged me every day of the week to apply here to go to school with him. Wellllll... okay fine.. I'll apply. Guess what? He decided, "Hey Frances, I'm going to Tampa biatch! Gonna bang me some bitches" ............wut an ass. left me all by myself. Anyway.. Half naked girls tanning at the Oval (there are some dudes too, for you guy-lovers) The Rec Center is my favorite part of the campus, IT IS AWESOME!! Okay, I don't know who said this campus is "diverse", but those who say that have no idea what diversity means then. Let's put it this way: it's just about as diverse as the color of my ass. There is a homogenous population of jocks and tall people (who are also jocks) and they're pretty much all white. I'm Asian. Didn't see many other asians. There's speckles of black people here and there (correct term: African-Americans if you will), it's kinda like seasoning your plate of salad with pepper and salt. I did see one other Asian other than myself. She was taking pictures of herself eating a sandwich with knife and fork in hand. That's probably as diverse as it gets. Surrounding city.. a bit dirty. Short North is a neat place though. Some shady people around too. It's advised to bring a car or at least know you will be able to drive while you're in school session because apparently the public transportation sucks and you meet weirdos who want to become one with the bus and ask you to join him/her. read more

I didn't attend OSU but my father in law is from Columbus and so I grew to love OSU passionately. Having the cutest mascot also helped (but I prefer Brutus when he was just a big nut, he looks more human now). Buckeye fans seem to be the most loyal fans ever and when you visit the campus, you'll feel some of that magic. The Oval is where you'll find the grove of native buckeye trees. This is the birthplace of Brutus Buckeye. Pick up a buckeye nut and put it in your pocket for good luck. Surely Jim Tressel has strolled through the Oval many times. All the Buckeye greats have. University Hall is a good place to start to learn about the history of the University, starting with its origins in 1870. There are some plaques explaining University history on the ground floor. The original building no longer stands (destroyed by fire) but it was the first building on the campus. This school is massive. There is nothing you can't and won't find here. They have majors that you can pursue that some may not even know exists. The campus is full of diversity and opportunity. It's sometimes hard to take advantage of all that it has to offer because you don't know where to begin! I've been here for one semester now so far as a fourth year college student and I can already see the improvement in my study habits, my knowledge on my field of study, and the detail of knowledge that I obtain in my classes compared to the community college I was attending for my first three years of college. Don't be intimidated by its size, embrace it! You can make so many friends, meet so many different people, and join one of the hundreds of organizations. Only downside is that this college is located in the heart of Columbus so you have to be very aware of your surroundings at all time. Never walk alone at night. Keep your cell phone charged and mace on your person. Be smart about the places you go to, the parties you attend, and the people you associate with. Luckily, the campus itself is quite safe. I have never felt uncomfortable on campus. The night life is pretty great but the distance you have to travel will depend on what you're looking for. Obviously, the bars located closest to campus are swamped with younger kids. If you travel south of campus you'll find nicer bars with nicer accommodations. If you travel north and check out the bars/restaurants on Lane you can find a little bit of both. Campus area is just generally fun to explore. Lastly, sports are always a blast. Being that this was my first year here, I had never been to a Bucks game. It was wild, fun, and windy! I had a lot of fun. It's awesome to watch such a large group of people come together to watch the games. You really understand how large the school is when you go to these games. As I'm finishing up my college career (yup, at Ohio State), I figure it's about time I review my almost alma mater. Lets start with the obvious: It's huge. Both in terms of land and student population (50K+ I believe). The size is both a benefit and a drawback. It's a benefit because there are loads of resources for the student population. A student has access to top level facilities, most of the time, though that depends to some extent on their department. There are a lot of other perks like the RPAC/ARC/other workout facilities, free counselors, and student organizations for just about anything you could possibly imagine and some things you'd never think of (Bacon Club?). There are tons of people to make friends with and loads of cool places to hang out. Another bonus to the size is that, if you're active on campus, you will never be bored. There is so much to do and see that I've been here for 4 years and I still feel like I'm experiencing something new almost every day. Just the other day I found out that we have free access to the greenhouses on top of one of the biology buildings, where they house huge exotic plants and the like. How cool is that? However, because it's huge, it would be easy for a student to skate by with a subpar education by taking 200+ person, easy classes. No one at Ohio State is going to FORCE you to get a good education. Ultimately, it's up to you to get acquainted with the resources, look for the good classes, and contact faculty and counselors and if you're having issues. If you do all that, you can leave Ohio State with a great experience. Same goes for having diverse experience. Yes, there is a "culture" here that is pretty typical of central Ohio and the Midwest in general. However, there are a lot of people and groups that dissent from that culture, and they are relatively easy to find and get involved with if you put in the effort. But if you don't put in the effort, no one is going to hand those experiences to you. Ultimately, I would say that your education and experience at Ohio State is what you make of it. If you are someone who is willing to get out there and find things for yourself, this is a great place. But if you get lost in a crowd easily and could use some more guidance, a smaller school might be more your style. read more

It's a thing. Second... I have never attended this school, I have partied on their campus. It's a nice place. My brother and sissy-in-law are both alums of THE Ohio State University, they are very smart people and seem to have gotten a top-rate education at this school. If I close my eyes, I can still remember my days at THE Ohio State University vividly. As an alumni of this university so close to my heart, I feel that the time has come for me to write a review on this institution that has given me some of my most treasured memories and opportunities. I want to start by saying this review is going to be very gushy (if you didn't catch that drift already) so you have been warned. I still remember my first Semester. The crisp fall breeze, the trees changing their leaves all around campus, the cheers and laughter, and lets not forget epic parties and tail gates as the football season had fallen on the university. I felt so alive every time I set foot on campus. It never mattered the season, I was lost in this university, its own city (literally i mean its the biggest uni. campus in the U.S with the third highest pop.). Taking in the atmosphere, studying at the coffee shops, learning about the history of the old, majestic buildings that told so many stories; and gawking at the grandeur of the architecture of the more modern buildings so perfectly interlaced with the old. I remember sitting in the auditorium of Hitchcock Hall, anxiously awaiting my first class to start, only to realize I was taking it with 500 other students! It was exciting and terrifying all at the same time. Luckily the lab was only 30 students lol. When you go to a university as big as Ohio State, I believe your given more than what most people expect a college experience to be. Your given a world class education unparalleled to many other U.S universities. You will be challenged beyond your belief in your classes. Ohio states rankings speak for itself. It is one of the top public research universities in the U.S and its programs are always cracking the top 20 for their standards. I read in a magazine that its considered to be a "public ivy league" university, and I believe it. The professors are always top notch, educated at the best universities themselves, with so much experience under their belts which really make your classes come to life..well most the time haha. The universities list of internships, study abroad opportunities, and research opportunities are endless. The campus itself is a city on its own, complete with its own bus system to get around; and in the dead of winters your oh so much more appreciative that it exists. I spent quite a bit of time in the Thompson Library "studying" but I always found myself becoming distracted with its beauty. I couldn't ever seem to find a favorite place to study in that library as I could never chose between the classical study hall, the ultra modern reading room, the café, or the study floors overlooking the atrium of the building. Taking a walk on campus was an adventure all on its own. In the spring the oval is full of people sun bathing and playing sports in the grass, and couples laying underneath the giant buckeye trees. There's also plenty of places to eat on campus, and places to grab a cup of joe at every corner. There is also ALWAYS something going on, you can never be bored. You can check out the Exhibits at the Wexner Center for the Arts, hang at the South Campus Gateway, or stroll downtown as Ohio state is walking distance from the beautiful short north arts district home to bistros, cafes, bars, and boutique shops. Not to mention the university district itself which has places that deliver food after midnight! SCORE! As for Sports, well there is nothing in the world like buckeye sports days and games. My point is while most kids go off to college hoping to get a good education, go to some great parties, and make great friends, Ohio state gives you all that plus some. Your getting a degree from one of the top universities in the nation, it doesn't matter how little school spirited you are before college (this was me) and uninterested in sports (me again) you will most definitively have your heart swell with pride by the time you graduate. Moving back to LA from CBUS I am a part of a huge alumni family out here in the west coast. I was shocked to see how many buckeyes are literally everywhere you go. You get the feel of living in a great up and coming city, you immerse yourself in the traditions on campus, but most of you all you become part of a family. How Firm Thy Friendship. read more

Out of high school i was accepted to both University of Michigan and the Ohio State University. My parents both went to Ohio Sate and where die hard Buckeye fans. We moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan when i was 11 so I was raised on conflicting interests. My senior year in high school I decided I would base my decision for college on who won the football game that year. Tom Brady came up big and I was officially a wolverine. The best decision I made in my life. Ohio State is still a quality institution for those who cant get into Michigan so I will give it 4 stars. Go Blue read more

I attended OSU first and foremost to obtain an education. I earned the majority of that education as a function of what I put into it rather than what was offered. Evaluating OSU on a substantive and objective basis of the integrity of scholarship of the faculty and the administration is how I am evaluating them, rather than being a "buckeye" or how much I enjoyed the football games. The faculty spans the full spectrum of competence. Some of the professors had great integrity in all aspects of their classes, such as not subtly pushing political agendas and not encouraging students to be obsequious. There were some great professors there I really enjoyed learning from. They genuinely enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge and hearing people's ideas. They also would do whatever they could to help a student learn. Other professors predictably pushed agendas of racism, socialism, and hatred toward this country. Although they generally seemed to know their respective fields when it seemed to not cross paths with their biases and inability to apply reason. Regarding racism, the irony here was they were encouraging it instead of preventing it. The worst example of scholarship I ever saw at Ohio State was Arabic 241. On a daily basis this class preached hating America simultaneously idolizing the terrorists of the Middle East. What's worse is the class spoke to the character of the student body. The whole quarter was a marathon of the morally depraved racing to see who could be the biggest suck up. Throughout my time there I noticed some inefficiencies with the Bursars office. These errors could not be derived back to OSU being a giant bureaucracy, but due to arrogance and a habit of getting their way without fear of consequence. On one occasion I was charged a late fee, then at a later date charged rightfully for a given service. You read that correctly - I was charged the late fee for something before I was even charged the fee for the service itself. It was all there to see on the same statement. I had to go there in person to address this, and even then the administrator still was not sure of removing the late fee, although no reason was offered. This is just one example of the attitude of the administration of OSU. read more

I am rating my experience in OSU as a student not a fan football fan. As one of the biggest campuses in the states, my first impression as I Buckeye was that I was for sure to get lost sometimes and lost some fat due to all the walking in campus. (Though, when I graduated I didn't lose as much as I expected...) Before I went to OSU, I wondered about this campus maybe too big and professors may not be able to give closer care to students compared to other colleges. However, I think this is a matter of whether the student wants to be proactive or not. I'm not those students who like to ask questions all the time but when I have questions, professors and TAs are reachable. As long as you show initiative in learning, most likely you can build good relationship with the professors or TAs. Of course, there are some poor professors who seem to care about their paycheck rather than their students but this is just life. When we graduate and come out to work in the society, we face all sorts of people included scumbags. Perhaps one good tip before choosing your class, you should go to check ratemyprofessor.com to take a look of some professors rating and reputation. On the other hand, OSU is a resourceful college which offers great facilities to students! The Thompson Library, Recreation & Physical Activity Center (RPAC) & Ohio Union are top facilities for students! Often times the student union promotes a lot of activities in the Union such as taste of OSU and other cultural events. Great diversity in the campus.Many other academic buildings have been renovated and they kept building some new one. Very comfortable for students. Parking is alright but sometimes can be real tough from 10 am - 2 pm as most of the students have classes during such hours. After graduation, you will then realize actually OSU is good for your network development as the size of enrollment is bigger compared to many colleges. Though, if you prefer to be taken care of closely all the time, OSU may not be the very right choice. Still, I am glad to be a BUCKEYE! OH-IO!! read more

Buckeye til' I die. No, seriously. Everything about this university I love. Okay, well, most things. I'm not a huge Buckeye football fan, but you can't beat the spirit Autumn quarter. You can find me in the Nuthouse cheering on the basketball team, though! Please, please, please take advantage of ALL the resources it has to offer. Yeah, I gots mah degree here. It's one of, if not the, biggest campuses in the country, and considering that, it's easy to get lost in the sea. I don't mean in terms of finding your way from point A to point B (although that's certainly possible as well), but as in, easy to go here, glide through classes with 50 to 400 people in them and never learn a thing. That being said, it is what you make of it. I took the time to learn the resources and used a ton of them to the most of their benefit. Counselors are your friends, see them often. Financial, Academic, hell, even psychological. You'll be required to have insurance, so make use of it. I was at the student health center any time I thought something was up, and I went for regular physicals and stuff as well, just to make sure I was staying healthy. It is a great school...if you make it one. read more

"How firm thy friendship." OSU is the kind of school that I never pictured myself attending. I went to undergrad at a school in Upstate New York with less than 10% the student population that Ohio State has. But as I was sick and tired of being in a long distance relationship with my love, the infamous Rachel P., I decided to go for my Master's at OSU in Music Education. I had known OSU pretty well before I arrived as an official Buckeye, thanks to my frequent visits to Rachel for the past two and a half years. I had initially written it off as a big big big school providing an impersonal education. I was not impressed with the dorms, the food, or the social life. Once I became a Buckeye though, I became enamored with something that I had not experienced at a small school. Extreme school spirit. Going to my first football game was an absolute blast, as is seeing the beautiful new Union, complete with Os and Buckeye leafs and nuts and the colors scarlet and gray. There is a lot to be proud of here. My education at OSU's Music School was okay. I first found the facilities to be quite lacking. The condition of Hughes Hall is shameful, and Weigel could definitely use a sprucing. The practice rooms were a mess and the pianos were frequently out of tune. My classes ranged from poor to excellent, but overall I think what differentiates undergrad from grad is that in grad school you gain a stronger and more personal relationship with your professors. Despite some difficulties, my professors were all decent, hard-working, and dedicated educators that truly cared about me. And despite mass confusion at times, they got me through the program in 4 quarters! I can't say I truly knew the spirit of OSU because I never lived there. I never experienced the social life, the dorms, and the food (more than a couple times) for myself. I lived a 10 minute bus ride from campus, and did not find myself hanging around there any longer than I needed to be. My education was decent, but abstract in terms of the practice of my profession. But I am damn proud to be a Buckeye, and proud to have been part of the Ohio State family. And I would recommend OSU to anyone who is looking for a big school with a fabulous library and more pride than anywhere else. read more

I just have to write a review for OSU...overall, it's an awesome place to go to college. Nearly any resource you need (academic or otherwise) can be found on campus. Any sport you want to try out, club you want to join, or class you want to take is accessible, and the people are guaranteed to be outstanding in whatever you decide to undertake. The school spirit is absolutely incredibly, especially during football season and makes me wonder how students at smaller schools can live without that gameday pride sometimes.
