Its always been a running joke how beaurocratic, frustrating and rude the DMV system is. Rhode…read moreIsland, and specifically this office, takes to to the next level! The dmv is as bad as the roads in this state! First, let's start off by saying their online chatbot is fucking useless. You'd do better searching their confusing website than their confusing chatbot ... which isn't really a 'chat' ... it asks you what you need and then spits up links to the webpage, which aren't relevant. It seems that you might only get the info. you are looking for if you intentionally asked it a different question. Me: What time does the Middletown Office open?' Chatbot: "You can easily renew your motorcycle registration online using the following 118 steps with 3 forms of ID and 16 utility bills.' Me: "What flavors of ice cream are most popular with tourists from Hawaii?" Chatbot: " The hours of operation are M-F from 8:30 - 4 p.m.' The only appointment I could get for the service I needed was 26 days out and the service needed to be done within 30 days. No wiggle room. The employees here belong in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Seriously, they are next level stereotypical of a DMV douche. They bark at you if you don't have everything thete, despite the website almost giving no guidance on what to bring. They'll always find a form you don't have which you need. They show no mercy if you tell them you need something done within a time line. There is zero customer service, helpfulness or shit ... even compassion. These are humans who take glee in telling you to fuck off and seem to enjoy playing the part of a souless robot. Imagine if HAL from 2001 A Space Odessy was covered in bad tattoos with giant hoop earings. That's the vibe here. Beyond treating everyone in line like a literal turd in a punch bowl, the system is just inefficient and lame. This filthy little strip mall office is designed to make the ghost of Musolini smile with joy at how beaurocratic and frusterating anything you come here to do is. Most people would actually rather get a root canal than go to the DMV ... its an actual statistic. The Middletown Rhode Island office takes that to the new level.

This was the only spot available for a next day reservation so I made the 1.5 round hour trip. I was prepared with all the paperwork needed to get my son rolling for his learner permit. Start to finish, including waiting in the first queue, was only 45 minutes. That's freaking amazing. Don't hesitate to grab a spot here if it comes up sitting online reservation availability. I had spent an hour and a half at the Cranston DMV the day before and they were not even close to calling our number. Staff was pleasant, patient and efficient. They have two security guards which I thought was excessive. Nope. A customer came in two hours after his reserved appointment , was turned away and he was pretty heated. They are, in fact, very needed. Also, these employees seem motivated to help and keep things moving. They don't make the rules. Read up on the DMV site to see what's needed, read all the fine print on the forms, be prepared and it should be smooth sailing.

We joined the Historic society for the well worth is discount and toured 3 homes in a day, which is just the right amount. A must in the self guided audio tour via the mansions phone app. It really adds to the history of the mansion and gives great insight to the families and their world. Please explore these fabulous gems when in the area. Can't wait to see the rest!

I visited The Breakers and The Marble House (third mansion is The Elms). Each house was lit up with Christmas lights, as well as a Christmas tree in each room. Also bought tickets to see "The Sparkling Lights" outside on the lawn. The mansions are absolutely grand, elegant, and filled with history!! They all cost money to enter, but there is a free audio tour for each one (bring a headset). I loved learning about each one! Short and sweet summaries of each room as you walk through the houses, with the option to listen to extended versions (for you history lovers). Each mansion has parking close-by (although the website claims you can easily walk from one mansion to the next, they are quite far, especially in the winter). I stopped in for a simple day trip, but lots to see and eat in Newport if you have more time! Another tip would be if you're there to see the Sparkling Lights, earliest admission is 4:30 pm, make sure you're in line by 4:15 pm (it gets long FAST)!

The narrator spoke in first person, as though she were the house itself. This was a great way to spend a rainy day, touring various homes here in Newport. While maybe not as vibrant as some of the others, it is well worth a visit.

This is a lovely addition to the Newport Historical Society "cottages". Not as large or opulent as…read moreothers, it was built in the Gothic Revival style. A very 'romantic' style with lots of exterior detail that gives the building lots of personality. The original owners were Southern Plantation owners and after the Civil War, the property was sold to a China Trade merchent. When his nephew inherited, he added on to the home almost doubling the size and added Tiffany glass windows in the dining room. The last family member to live in the home, left the house and all it's contents to the Newport Historical Society. With good reason. Twice the city tried to condemn the building and knock it down to expand the shopping plaza across the street. I am so glad the Historical Society has restored the property and opened it to the public. Today the home is a National Historic Landmark and a rare example of Gothic Revival. The home is filled with vases, objects d'arte, photographs, paintings. Each room decorated as it was when the family lived there. Office, parlours, bedrooms, school room and more. The only area not open to the public is an aviary and the servant area including the kitchen. A small parking area is past the stables. Tickets must be pre-purchased as they do not have equipment here to sell tickets. Public rest rooms are in the stables where your ticket will be scanned and a sticker given that allows access to the house. The property is not ADA compliant as is common in many historic buildings. Besides the steps into the home there is also a staircase up to the bedroom level. The grounds have some gorgeous trees. An audio tour is available through their website so bring your ear buds, and informational papers, published in several languages, are also available in the stables.

UPDATING (from 5 stars to 1) as of 7/12/18: I reached out to Pro. Drain Svcs. to see if they could help my parents with a water leak problem. I was advised, via yelp chat from the business owner, to have them call directly. My parents called and had an appointment scheduled for a Fri. morning at 10:30 am. After waiting all morning and afternoon no one from this company showed up. Worst of all no one called to explain/reschedule. I send the business a message inquiring about what happened and received no response. It is a week later and I am still waiting. How embarrassing to provide a glowing referral to someone and have it turn out to be such a bad experience for them. Will seek services else where in the future.
