Great park! We…read morediscovered this park for a friend's birthday party. It was an unseasonably warm day in November, shining sun and blue skies! We had picnic tables by a cute Art Nouveau style stage type thing (shut down for the season, but probably the source of a lot of fun in summer). Everyone here was friendly and kids played safely. Parents were attentive and open to talk and help kids share in activities together on the playground apparatuses or zip line, etc. Even the local teens at the gaga pit were so sweet to let young elementary school kids join in for their games. We stayed a lot longer than anticipated and it was a really fun time!

There's lots of shopping, food and more around Astor Place. When you need a break this Plaza is a relaxing place to stop. I can't speak for other times of the day but early morning when I was visiting on September 19, 2019 it was clean. I enjoyed looking at the sculptures. The area was not overly congested with people. If you're in this historic neighborhood you may want to visit this location.

While the old fountain still exists at the core, rather than fence it in they opened up the space and added welcoming tables and benches, and a take a book leave a book station. The end result is the perfect seasonal parklet that's perfectly fitting in the time of East Passyunk's restaurant renaissance, and you'll almost always see a few South Philly characters taking it all in. While the Fountain is always the perfect spot to kick back and relax to a good book, It also see's it's share of action including the Wednesday Farmer's Market, holiday activities once the fountain gets transformed into a "Christmas tree", and a dj/music station during all of East Passyunk Ave's street festivals.

It serves as a place for one to achieve a phlegmatic disposition, eat pastries from Librae Bakery adjacent to this public triangle, people watch, and to ponder one's racing thoughts as there are a lot of benches. This triangle/ plaza is clean and well maintained. There is a bronze statue monument of Peter Cooper where appropriate the area is also dedicated to him. The pedestal and canopy are composed of marble and granite materials. Peter Cooper, founder of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, a private college in Lower Manhattan.

The statue of Verdi looks like it was restored somewhat. I liked visiting on April 14, 2025 when I was visiting my old neighborhood. It's old school New York City to me.

It sits on what's called a traffic Island and it's named after Italian composer, Giuseppe Verdi. Of course, growing up in the 1970's we called it Needle Park, after the druggy movie "Panic in Needle Park". My cousin Fran still calls it that. Later in life the homeless guys would sleep on the 73rd street side by the subway grate because the warm air would jet up and keep them toasty. Then in the daytime, all the seniors hung out in the park. This week, it was pretty sweet how we grabbed our dogs, drinks and relaxed in the park for a half hour. All while we were waiting for our train to take us to 91st street and Riverside park, to see the Garden people. More to come! 01/24

It's fairly clean, has a visitors center (for the city not only the park) and a nice fountain that you can go in if you're adventurous or a kid. We did not, but on a warm day like it was the idea was tempting. Love Park isn't a huge park by any means, but a good place to take a walk, enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and share the time with someone you love. Love wins.

Just blocks from Times Square and the Theater district in Midtown Manhattan, Bryant Park is…read moredirectly next to the main branch of the New York Public Library. It's a park that my wife and I have passed by during the day on visits to New York City. But we finally saw it come alive as a community gathering place at night, with its many tables to talk or eat, permanent and temporary food trucks and carts, and a large greenspace lawn that was cordoned off this night, but can be the location for free summer movies on the lawn and an ice skating rink in the winter. On a warm summer night, the night atmosphere was magical, especially walking through the walkways with the London plane trees, after a great Broadway show. The current park is 9.6 acres and is located on two city blocks (5th and 6th avenue on the NW/SE, 40th and 42nd street on the NE/SW). The western half of the park contains a lawn, walkways, and a french-inspired carousel. Down below are the repository/stacks of the public library, located on the eastern half of the park. It opened in 1847 as Reservoir Square, later renamed for abolitionist William Cullen Bryant in 1884. It fell into disrepair in the 1960s. In 1980, the Bryant Park Restoration Corporation was formed as a non-profit, to try to create a long term solution for the maintainability of the park. Massive renovation was planned and implemented, with a complete rebuilding of the park (after the library stacks had been first built underneath). It reopened in 1992, to great acclaim. Since then, the value of the real estate around the park has greatly increased, attracting new development. The reclamation of the park has been often used a model for a successful urban renewal.

Bryant Park had set up countless chairs on their courtyard to commemorate the ones who had passed…read moreduring 9/11. Today being 9/11, we were able to observe many family members coming to this park to place a flower on their loved one's chairs. I am not sure if I would call this place a park but technically I guess it counts as one because it has tables where people can come and sit down and eat or drink their morning or afternoon coffee. There are also random places where kids can play including a carousel and playground for little ones. There are other places where you can grab snacks, coffee, and hand held bites but we didn't try any of those today. We did sit around the table to enjoy our New York bagel and coffee from blue bottles. The trees around the park were super tall which I enjoyed looking at trying to crane my neck as far back as it would bend lol. I appreciated small birds and pigeons that seemed used to being around people. Overall it was a relaxing experience. This park is located nearby other landmarks you can choose to check out after experiencing the park.

My wife worked there before we moved to San Diego, so we have a special connection to the buildings and the horror of 9-11. Seeing the steel from the building was very moving. The peaceful setting here is very nice for walking, contemplating, sitting ... remembering. Lest we forget.
