I came here again because it was attached to the building I lived in and needed a pick-me-up before my Philosophy final exam without treading too far. Refer to my previous review for information about customer service, ambiance, and their Fish & Chips.
Food: I had Smoked Salmon Sandwich w/ Creme Cheese. A sandwich itself costs $6.50 and additional condiments are $1.50 each so it totaled 8 dollars - which isn't a bad deal because the sandwich ended up being pretty big and filling on its own (with just Smoked Salmon and Creme Cheese). Salt and pepper = complimentary. This sandwich was actually really good - nothing special because it was so basic, but sometimes the simple things in life are the best. The salmon was tasty and went well with the creme cheese, the bread fluffy and delicious. I recommend the sandwiches from this place.
I also had the Big Breakfast (hash browns, 2 eggs, toast, spinach, sausages, bacon, mushrooms - but I took out the mushrooms). It wasn't that great. The bacon was a bit too rough for my liking and so was the toast. The sausages and eggs were okay though. A mediocre breakfast, but edible.
I think with a place like The Old Melbourne Cafe, the food is hit or miss depending on what you order and seeing as how the location is so convenient for me I will probably be coming back to experiment with more things.
