The bartender tried kicking me out because I was wearing a white t shirt, no logos just a literal plain white t. He said we have a no white shirt policy you have to leave, and next to me was a Caucasian man wearing an identical t shirt. When I pointed out that the man next to me was wearing one he said it didn't apply to him cause he's a regular customer there but I felt extremely discriminated against, being THE ONLY mixed person in the bar. I was a bit hesitant to come here cuz it seemed really honky tonk, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. My first time here was less than a year ago and I've been back at least 10 times. This place never seems to disappoint. It's not always poppin', but I've never had a horrible experience here. It's usually always a good/decent time. My first time here was on a Thursday (college night) and we waited like 1 1/2 hours. Pretty ridiculous, but it was a fun time. I don't think I've ever gone back on Thursday. I usually come Friday or Saturday. Sometimes on sat there's a cover (3 or 5 bucks) and sometimes there isn't. Idk. I went last night and we told the door guy we had no cash. He was kind of iffy at first but ended letting 4 of us in for a dollar haha. He was really cool. The crowd here is surprisingly diverse. It's actually ethnic-ish and there are both young and old folk here. Bros, hoes, hoodrats, cholos, grandmas. Almost everyone I've encountered is really friendly and we always meet new people here. I don't even like to dance that much but this place kind of got me into it. They play top radio hits, hip-hop, some throwback 80s and 90s stuff, and even country. Cupid shuffle 4eva. This place isn't the cleanest and it's definitely grimey but the atmosphere makes up for it. All the bouncers are fairly nice and seem to enjoy sarcasm. The bartenders have all been decent and are pretty quick even when there's a big crowd. Drinks are fairly priced and I like how they're a bit stronger than at other bars. I also like how you can dress up or dress down here. I once wore yoga pants and flip flops. Such casualz. The upside is that there's no cover charge on the weekends but that's all Old Town Saloon has going for itself. The bartenders are very slow and the drinks are under poured and they have nerve to charge $9.00 for a weak drink, the DJ can be really hit or miss with the set list there's no flow nor do the songs beats match which keep people dancing and back to the bar in an interval. It's like the DJ is playing music from an iPod. The Security does a decent job in keeping the ghetto trash out, it's a not a bad place but pretty much a dive bar with a dance floor. I have frequented this bar on and over for an easy decade. What makes me come back is the staff has always been the same. From the door guy always knowing who you are (from gary to dustin) to the bartenders like Nikki who know what you want and get it before you even ask. If you are there before 9 it is a slower pace and you can kick back play some tunes and play some pool. and have a general chill time. If you are later, say on a thursday its going to be busy. There is going to be a huge line that you will have to wait in. The lines for drinks are going to be long. Keep your drinks simple and know what you want and it will be fast. That is just simple advice for any packed bar you go to. The music is going to to be booming and people dancing and people getting bumped into. They expanded and the dance floor is a decent size and is full. You are going to a 3 star college bar don't expect the Ritz.. If you are a jerk this place is not for you. If you wear all sports apparel or saggy clothes or just look ghetto, this place is not for you. You will be checked on your clothes and not be allowed to enter. I still like this place. last night I met two girl friends at OTS. I came in within an hour before closing. one of my friends was pretty drunk as she was being loud and rambunctious. we each had mixed drinks and she got up wanting to order us shots for all of us and went to the bar. I then followed her but saw that the bartender was already pouring the shots of Jameson. I literally told the bartender to cut her off and hand motioned it. this bartender even talked to my friend on a first name basis and questioned her well being, but still served the shots. still, this whole time I am telling her to cut her off. my friend then grabs one of the shots as I try to hold her back from taking it, but she drinks it and sets it down. the bartender presents my friend her card and the tab. I am pretty upset at this point that the bartender blatantly just wanted to make sales knowing how drunk my friend was. I didn't even want the shots; I put the two back! as a bartender myself I am outraged that this bartender gave no shits about my friend when I was CLEARLY telling her to cut her off. I know when to cut people off when I'm working, and being slightly buzzed, I knew my friend needed to be. anyway, it was a female bartender. I would give this place more stars, if it was not for the fact that Thursday is the best night to go. Don't go here solo, people who go here are very clique oriented, and most of them think far too highly of themselves. Such is Fresno. The line is very long after 9:30, and they frown on people cutting in line which is good. I am used to being able to tip the doorman and get in, but here they don't do that much if at all. To say that I was disappointed with the treatment my friends and I received at Old Town Saloon last night 5/13 would be an understatement. We were a party of 12, most of whom were immediately let in. However, one of my best friends was denied entry due to the fact that she was wearing a white bandana. Many of us tried to explain to the bouncer that she has a hair loss condition called alopecia, and yet she was still denied entry. She has been allowed into the bar numerous times before without an issue. While I understand the need for security measures, I believe that bouncers and other staff should be taught how to approach the situation and assess whether or not there is an actual threat. They need to understand that sometimes there are certain exceptions to a situation. Denying someone because of a bandana, but refusing to listen to a reasonable explanation as to why they have it is not "handling it". My friends and I decided to take our business to the bar next door where we were told there was absolutely no issue with her bandana. I stand by my beautiful friend friend and therefore will not be returning to Old Town Saloon. I would also like to request that those in agreement boycott this establishment. Furthermore, I believe my friend is owed an apology for the unfair treatment she received last night. read more

This place recently expanded their dance floor, which helped A LOT!, The drinks are at a decent price. There is always a good vibe inside. The ratio of Guys to Girls it depends. I've been here Saturday nights here and there is way less people than thursday night and the people on saturdays are more in there lates early 30's+. If your ID is out of state, beware. They might not let you in after you've waited an hour to get in. I went there for college night and they didn't let me in with my out of state ID and paperwork saying they no longer accept them. MY ACTUAL ID WAS TURNED AWAY. I think it's absolutely ridiculous if I have a legal ID and paperwork to show that I'm out of state, and to be embarrassed by some bouncer saying I'm not allowed in. It takes a lot for someone to really upset me. She ended up overcharging me and didn't apologize or reimburse the money to my card. She took money from the tip jar and said here take it. Oh how the tables have turned on Old Town Saloon. I moved to Fresno in July, and starting my first semester at state, it was told that Old Town was the place to go. My first experience was great, and I couldn't wait to go back.. It is true, Thursday nights are the best nights to go-- mostly college students/ people around the ages of 21. I had mostly gone on Thursday nights, a few times on Saturdays. It is always full so if you want to get in, go there early! . I am from Merced, it isn't much different than Clovis, so I don't know why they feel that their BAR is like a Vegas Club. If you don't get there by 9 on Thursdays, expect to wait in line. The funny thing is, once you get in it usually isn't even packed, so I don't know why they feel that they can keep people outside waiting who want to buy drinks and dance. They have these VIP cards that people have, which can get in at anytime of the night and skip the line.. The sad part is, it is mostly girls who are hideous, fat, and can't dress. I called once to see how you could get one and they told me "once you start coming regularly for about 6 months, Thursday THROUGH Saturday, bartenders recognize you, the bouncers recognize you, and that they know you don't start trouble, they will issue a VIP card"..... Really? The DJ sucks and plays the same play list every week and every day. They really should invest in a new DJ for different nights. I swear I can tell you which song will be played next. The drinks are OKAY, $2.50 Coronas you can't go wrong.. But I have ordered Vodka plus sprite or tonic water and they are always so strong that I can't even drink them. The bartenders can be rude, but I know which ones to order from and how to talk to them. I have over heard a bartender complain about a drunk girl once mimicking her and how she ordered her drink.. Bad customer service? The place is small and could really do an uplift. If they just painted the walls and got rid of some of the junky decor, it would look a lot better. Ok so, the main reason why I will never go back is because I recently celebrated my birthday there and had some friends come down to celebrate it. Our plan wasn't to go to Old Town, but somehow we ended up there. It was a Saturday night and we had to pay $5 to get in (which is dumb, c'mon what are we paying for to get in?). The night was fine until 2 am and they were yelling at my girl friends to get out of the bathroom. What bar does that? Then as we were waiting for our taxi, they told us we couldn't stand outside the bar because it was loitering, totally understandable. Our cab was right around the corner and my friend made a sarcastic remark towards one of the bouncers and somehow the Clovis police were just right around the corner. My birthday night ended with a friend arrested for no apparent reason. He is half black and with a staff full of white people.... Good riddance to Old Town. This review recounts an incident that happened in June 2008. I'm originally from the Central Valley, but currently am a student at UC Berkeley. My college friends and I were on a road trip and traveled throughout California last summer. On the last leg of the trip, I decided to visit my hometown friends since two of them were celebrating their birthdays. It was decided to go to Old Town after dinner and this was my first time enjoying "nightlife" in Clovis, a town for which I've always held great disdain (even more now). After standing in line, the bouncer stared at my valid CA driver's license and then at me. I had obviously changed somewhat in appearance since age 16, now having some facial hair. The bouncer however, refused to let me in. I requested to speak to the manager/owner and when he came out, it was basically the same line: We have the right to refuse anyone entry. I was confounded. Being of Indian descent, racism has always been a concern, especially considering the times we live in, and of course, people in Clovis are not really the most enlightened of folks, but never before had I encountered such open disrespect and rudeness. I showed the owner the following forms of ID: current CA driver's license, Harvard University ID, University of Cambridge ID (UK), UC Berkeley ID, and an international student ID. All showed my picture and two showed my age (22). I was dressed in formal clothes. But the owner would not budge and offered no reasonable explanation for his actions. Outside the bar were two members of the Clovis PD. The owner had been talking to them about some unrelated matter earlier. I turned to one of the officers and explained the situation. He replied rather rudely, "Even if we could verify your ID, and your age, the owner still doesn't have to let you in." Technically, of course that's true. In light of the circumstances and the fact I produced 5 IDs, I expected the police at least to be a little understanding, but that's Clovis PD for you. They weren't going to bust the balls of a bar owner they had a "good" relationship with. The police obviously could not make the bar owner let me in, but they could have at least demanded an explanation and attempted to remedy the situation. They did no such thing. Instead, I was left with a very uncomfortable feeling that even the law had deserted me. And that is a terrible feeling for someone to have in this country. I could understand if I was out of dress code. I'd understand if my ID was expired or I looked vastly different from the picture. But that was not the case. Was I, an honors student who produced IDs from some of the world's most elite educational institutions somehow not worthy enough to enter Old Town? Was I not even entitled to an explanation? Apparently not. Old Town's behavioral reflects poorly on the entire town of Clovis. People here in the Bay Area always assume that CV folks are ignorant, bigoted, etc. and I always try to explain that is not really the case. But way to go Clovis and Old Town Saloon for fulfilling the stereotype. read more

They harass women (cursed and yelled in our face) "don't disrespect us in our f**king house" just to put on a show for the line outside! we stepped outside briefly to find a friend so I walked up to the bouncer with my ID to go back inside he wouldn't let me back in so I asked "how long is this line going to wait outside? The guy bartender was awesome, my friend is from out of town so unfamiliar with this bar and as he was checking out the back exit that leads to the parking lot, he asked a female employee if the gate or whatever was unlocked and if we can leave that way, i was sitting down, and when he was coming back in to get me she said he needs to leave? Bitch, that's what he was doing. I didn't find out until later she was a complete ass. Bartenders were nice tho. Girl needs to check her attitude though.
