Regardless of your religion this program is great for young kids and I highly recommended it. Today (May 2022) I updated it and felt the need to share here as well. There are so many's ways this Dojos helped my son. Now 8 and a green belt, karates helped him stay respectful and focused in most aspects of his life. He's a member of Team Zanshin and actively competing in tournaments recently winning two golds in the jr nationals. This Dojos become part of our family. I will update my review at some point in the near future....!): My kids started with Sir Danny a few years ago when he was at another very popular martial arts place in Valencia (I don't know if I'm allowed to mention the name??), so, if you're wondering, yes, it's THAT "Sir Danny" that your kids already know and love. :) I was so happy to hear that he had opened up his own place, and we signed up the kids right away. Much to my own surprise, I also recently signed up my husband and I, and we are loving it too! The gem of Highkicks is the Family Martial Arts class. If you are one of those SCV parents who (like me) drives all over town to take your kids to their activities and then sits on the side chatting with the other parents, drinking your Starbucks, and staring at your phone, then Highkicks will make you change that dynamic. Why are we wasting our time and getting even more sedentary while our kids are out there getting fit? It's ridiculous if you think about it. Well, at Highkicks, you'll probably eventually say, "Hey, I might as well go out on the mat and try that too." The family classes are perfect for every type of family -- no joke. Again, I am NOT SPORTY, I am wrinkly and flabby, and I am not a kicking/punching/confrontational kind of person. Yet, there I am, on the mat getting sweaty, kicking bags and learning how to get out of a choke hold (Sir Danny throws in some self-defense every now and then). Why do I do this? Because -- my kids are out there, and, well, why not?! It's actually fun! And, think about it, where else can you spend 45 minutes with your kids but not have to discipline somebody? Or hear whining? Or clean up something? Or make any decisions? Or make somebody turn off a screen? This is 45 solid minutes of (stealthy!) family bonding. Sir Danny is great at giving everybody things to do for their own levels. For example, my 9-year old might be working on a spinning back kick while I'm working on a standing back kick. We're next to each other, and we're sharing a bag, but we're working individually. It's a beautiful thing! :) In addition to the exercise aspect ("the family that sweats together...!"), there's something deeper going on as well. I don't know about your family, but, in ours, the parents are the "all-knowers," the "distributors of discipline," and the "rule-makers." There is a power dynamic inside the household that gets shifted on the Highkicks mat. I ask my daughter for advice on which way to point my toes. My son shows me how to hold the pads when he's kicking. My husband gives me a thumbs-up when my toes are pointed better than his. And, for the "sporty" parents who think that a family martial arts class wouldn't be high enough intensity, or who would rather drop off the kids and go run on the paseos for 45 minutes, just give it a try. I promise, you'll leave sweaty and happy!

My son came in with prior TaeKwonDo experience but what he found here was more meaningful than simply continuing his practice. The instructors are incredibly encouraging and know how to bring out the best in each student. They are able to push and motivate without being overly strict, which is a rare and beautiful quality in martial arts instruction. Their guidance is rooted in support, and it shows in how excited and confident my son feels after every class. What touches me most about this school is the environment it creates. It goes beyond just teacher and student. There is a real sense of community here, something that feels much closer to a family. The students are treated with care and attention, and the respect flows both ways. It is clear that the instructors see and value each child not only for their potential in TaeKwonDo, but as people. I came from a more traditional background in TaeKwonDo. One rooted in old-school methods that were strict and, at times, even harsh. That approach instilled discipline and resilience, and for that, I am thankful. But being at The One TaeKwonDo has opened my eyes to the strength of a different way. Her dedication sets a powerful example for everyone around her. Master David brings a steady strength and quiet wisdom that perfectly complements the atmosphere of the school. Together, their leadership shapes a place that truly uplifts. The younger instructors, too, show impressive skill and maturity. They are not only technically knowledgeable but they also bring patience, positivity and a real attentiveness to the students especially the younger ones. It's inspiring to see such heart in all of them. You can see it in every class, in every correction offered and in every smile shared. From a practitioner's perspective, I can see that the structure of their program is thoughtful and effective. It's well-paced and balanced, challenging without overwhelming, and it encourages progress in both physical ability and personal discipline. The instructors/trainers know how to keep a steady rotation of active kids moving without missing a beat. Very welcoming, you can tell the owner and the rest of the staff really do care, and they enjoy doing what they do. This is a legit workout for all ages that teaches to be in tune with your body.
