I started Tae Kwon Do in 1996, best teen years of my life! Taught me discipline, respect for the sport and philosophy. Loved it so much I begged my parents to train every day! I went to train in Soul Korea 1998 with my Master, instructors, and peers. Accomplished my goal of the black belt! Life took for a turn and stopped training after I started a family and moved out of town. Always missed the good old days and always wanted to go back. I moved back in town and went back in. Master Stolsig and Master Ocampo welcomed me back and supported me throughout my training after coming back in 20 years! So very grateful to had reunited a month ago with my instructors that are now Masters and my Grandmaster Shin! What can I say! What a relief we found this place. My daughter took a long time to discover a sport that she really connected to, and now thankfully, she's got it at Tae Ryong. She became so enthusiastic about the exercises and forms that she begged us to try--my husband did a trial and joined. It is wonderful and relationship-building to be on this journey as a family. What stands out is the emphasis by Masters Stolsig and Ocampo on being respectful and focused both at home as well as in the studio. The kids learn that TKD is a way of life, and how you carry yourself and behave even outside the studio will add to or take away from your other endeavors. We all aspire to set our kids up for success, and this means the hard work of setting goals and following through. I feel as though both of the Masters come alongside our roles as parents and back us up in that mission. (My daughter had a typical kid-incident at school, and we shared it with the Masters so they took her aside and spoke with her about it as well. The extra pressure and authority from these devoted instructors means a lot when you don't want repeat performances of bad choices!) They are kind and motivational and fun and really make the studio a great place to spend time. We didn't start out with the motivation of our daughter learning self-defense, and that is certainly not the exclusive focus at the studio. But you better believe I am relieved knowing that my daughter is learning how to react if someone tries to grab or assault her. As a woman, I wish I would have had these skills earlier in life, myself. The exercise warm ups are fun and kind of Crossfit-bootcampy, and move into a variety of forms and practicing the traditional martial art. This is what I like best, as I know that mental exercise is as important as physical as we age--so I'm killing two birds with one stone, LOL. My husband loves the sparring, which is awesome cardio and no-contact unless you choose to wear protective padding. My daughter and husband can't get enough of this and even spar at home now. read more

I'm basing this review on the birthday parties that I have attended, and not by the classes and teaching style and such.. My cousin has two sons that attend this place.. is it a studio? A school? What do they call places that teach martial arts?! Anyway, they do a neat thing on weekends that they are probably not too busy with.. they hold "Tae Kwon Do" birthday parties.. At these parties, the kids don't have to be attendants of this school.. but they do have to sign waivers.. of course.. The kids learn some basic tae kwon do moves.. like blocking, punching, and kicking.. and then they also play several mean games of dodge ball.. they even get the adults involved! That's always fun! Parents provide the food and drinks for after all the Tae Kwon Do festivities.. The teachers.. um.. Masters is what they called them... are great.. they know how to handle large group of kids.. mainly boys.. they are funny but also demand respect and balance that very well without sounding too strict or mean.. I think these are great parties because it keeps the kids in one controlled space.. and they are actually well behaved because of how they handle them all. My cousin's sons enjoy coming here for their classes.. I've sat in on a few and saw how much they enjoyed it. I'm not sure about pricing or programs.. that would have to be something you'd have to go in and check out.. read more

My son has been trained with Tae Ryong since he was 4, now he is green belt. He enjoys every single class. Master Stolsig and Master Ocampo are excellent Taekwondo teachers! My son and I earned our black belts together at Tae Ryong. It was a moment we will forever cherish. For him, our instructors Master Ocampo and Senior Master Stolsig helped develop his confidence and built him up physically so that he has the tools to play any sport he chooses. For me, Tae Ryong helped me set goals for myself both physically and mentally. It is ever challenging and motivating. This is functional fitness in martial arts that is personally rewarding and gratifying because while you are getting in tremendous shape you are learning life skills. I was taking classes at this studio for a few years when I first moved to California. It was a very welcoming atmosphere and very family oriented. Within weeks, I felt like I was already part of the family. The instructors are very patient and helpful, they do a great job explaining different aspects of form and technique. The classes are also taught with a great mixture of discipline, form, strength, and flexibility. The best part about this studio is that there are families who take classes together, there are kids who come after school to do homework then attend class, and there are adults who come for advanced classes. There are also special friday night aerobic classes when I was still with the studio. Overall, you get your money's worth. Any type of person will find a place for themselves at this studio. My son and I have been practicing taekwondo at Tae Ryong for over 5 years now. We decided on this school because it is very family oriented and offers top quality training. The founder is now a 9th degree black belt and the classes are taught by 4th degree or higher level instructors. The Tae Ryong family is just that. It has provided us a great network of healthy minded, fun families to interact and grow with. It provides the great balance between making taekwondo fun without sacrificing the discipline, focus and respect that is essential to the discipline. read more

Good classes by most teachers. Some could use a bit more humor in their classes and be a bit less serious. Overall great teaching of skills and life lessons. Grueling belt testing cycle tho. Every so many weeks another test. Kids are excited when they move in to the next belt but it is always stressful for them the weeks before to get their techniques right in time for the exam. read more

Just what we needed for our 5-year-old son. We wanted a fun and regular activity where he could learn martial arts basics, and then progress at a good rate. My 8 year old son has attended classes since 8/2015 and has had a birthday party here and the instructors, Master Stolsig and Master OCampo are wonderful with kids. They are understanding and patient, but don't let the kids get away with not paying attention and goofing off. Perfect balance. The birthday party (3/2016) was high energy and none of the other kids were students there. The parents who stayed had fun watching (and getting roped into a kids vs parents dodge ball game) and the kids were having so much fun running, kicking, jumping and tumbling on the mats. My son said it was one of his "top 2" birthdays. We have no idea what the other one was, but that was high praise from him. Can't recommend the place highly enough. read more

before I signed-up my 4 year, because he is a spark of energy. He was all over the space and was a hands full. He doesn't have any siblings and doesn't attend preschool. So my husband thought it would be a good idea to sign him up. Let me tell you, it was the best thing my husband has ever done. Takewondo has helped him greatly with his development. It has taught him discipline, how interact with other kids and follow verbal instructions. He is all into it. Now he goes to sleep between 7-8 and looks forward to attending class. Give me a break! We've been coming here for YEARS and it is pretty darn good. Patient staff who are wonderful with the kids. And we've been shopping around for years BEFORE we joined. If anyone asks around you will find nice things being said about here and there. Anyone who has paid and is vested - well they are likely biased. So I self incriminate myself as such - but one thing you won't find is a Master of the studio chain who was as notable in international competition and involved with the US Olympic Tae Kwon Do team! Yes... the notariety of this group of schools is singular. Anyways - I strongly recommend that if you are shopping it - do indeed look around and check here in person before you make a final decision. Their deals are quite good and if you don't mind contacting me about joining through us they we would be grateful for the referral. I'm a 57 year old "gentleman" that has been training in marshall arts for almost 40 years. I have been fortunate to be part of the Tae Ryong family for the last 18-20 years, and can state certainly that this is the very best studio for an adult who would like to train your body and soul under the guidance of an understanding and VERY QUALIFIED staff. Master Stolsig and Master Ocampo understands the potential and the limitations of all that train in their studio, and make each training session a worthwhile experience that motivates you to keep coming back for more. If you are fortunate to have a little time during the day, there is a morning class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Most reviews will speak of the great job this studio does with children and families, which is very true; I will also say that if you are a middle aged adult that is looking for a different kind of workout and lifestyle jolt, please give Tae Ryong a try, there is usually a really good deal to give it a shot. read more
