I went into this store and asked if they would please clean my glasses and was told no. Was asked if I bought my glasses there and I had not. Nonetheless every optical Place I have ever been to has cleaned the lenses at no cost. If I was ever interested in buying a new pair, this would be the last place I would go. They will help you find just the right frames to make you look your best and they will make sure that your lenses are perfect. They are always patient and treat their customers like royalty. I really like The Optical, this review is for the optical store. I brought in a prescription for eyeglasses and I was very impressed with the selection of brands and styles. I worked with two different associates and I thought both gave me good advice on styling. I mean, if you are going to wear glasses every day for a couple of years, you want to consult with someone that is up to speed on the latest trends and what will look good on you. The prices are expensive as others have noted, but as always I'd rather pay a bit more and get great service and quality. Oh, and don't bother trying to park out front. Park in one of the ramps. There aren't a lot of spaces because Lunds has claimed 90% of the spaces in the lot in front. read more

It is one of the few recognized carriers of the coveted Chanel brand; customers from all over the country visit specifically for their Chanel collection. There was a certain frame I gravitated towards when I arrived. I thought I knew what I wanted. Kevin and Kitty patiently waited while I changed my mind and browsed...Even near closing time--shame on me. They took into consideration my preferences and guided me towards frames that would suit my face shape and explained why. The result: I ended up with glasses I love and receive compliments on quite often. I credit the staff at The Optical for assisting me to find not only functional frames, but ones that are uniquely me. The way the staff handled the ordering process was impressive. I think most shops would have been irked with my ordeal. Reaching my optometrist in another state, sending my frames to an entirely different state, playing phone tag with me, etc. But Kevin dealt with my order with finesse and professionalism. I received courtesy phone calls from Kevin providing me with the status of my order. The glasses arrived in pristine shape and I was delighted with my purchase. If I could give them 10 stars I would!! My ailing Uncle needed new glasses after his cataract surgery. The staff was kind, patient and professional. They took the time to ensure the fit would be perfect (and stylish) even considering his eyebrows! They work as a team and ask each other for advice and double checks. I have not (yet) bought glasses here, but I stop in and browse when I'm over at Lunds. For a small shop they have a good selection of frames, and the staff at the store are friendly but not high-pressure. I did buy a pair of FitOvers sunglasses here (which I love) and the fellow who helped me was as polite and helpful for a $50 purchase as I would have expected for a $400 purchase. I put the price range as "pricey" but of course it would probably vary depending on your insurance. Glasses, in general, are pretty pricey. read more

They have a great selection and the staff is wonderful! They are friendly, professional, and very courteous whether browsing or buying very nice frames with a pricey bifocal prescription. The best optometrist I've ever found, helping me to find glasses that are fun and look good on me. (I like fun and funky frames; unfortunately most make me look cross-eyed or are not flattering in other ways.) The optometrist gave honest opinions instead of trying to sell me something I didn't need (e.g., prescription bifocal sunglasses). The prices are on the high end but comparable to anything outside of Target/Lens Crafters, IMO. read more

This is not a review of the store, but rather of the woman who runs it. There are two potted plants stationed outside of the store's entry, and my mother's dog (a 7 lb. Maltese) lifted his leg to mark it right as the manager of the store walked past. Obviously, my mother should have been paying attention and not allowed her dog to mark it, but the manager's reaction was so much harsher than necessary, especially as my mother apologized. But the manager ignored her, pointed across the street and said, "There's grass over there. THAT'S where your dog should pee." Again, I get it. The dog shouldn't have peed on her plants but there are nicer ways to get your point across. My mother was genuinely shaken up from the entire episode. But here's the thing--if there are things outside a store, it's not unforeseeable that dogs walking by will mark them. I, myself, learned the hard way that reusable recycling bins will get peed on by dogs. It's like Twitter or Facebook to them--they pass information about themselves to other dogs, but the point is this: if you expect outdoor pots to stay urine-free then you're deluding yourself from reality. I had a fantastic experience buying glasses here. The frame selection is incredible. In fact, there were so many stylish frames to choose from that it would have been overwhelming had not the friendly and knowledgeable staff helped me make my choice. These folks really know what they're doing. I purchased my glasses this past summer and still get compliments on them. The digital lenses are pretty incredible too--I haven't seen so clearly in years. My only caveat is that the prices are on the high end. While it's true that you get what you pay for, know that you could end up paying a chunk more than you may be used to. read more

After purchasing a pair of glasses at a 'discount' place, it didn't take me long to realize that my lenses were not the quality I expected and, because I do not have an 'eye' for what frames look good on me, the glasses I chose made me look older and were downright boring because, as I was told, "This is why you should bring a friend with you." When I needed to get another pair of glasses, I decided to try The Optical. I had heard great things about them and figured I had nothing to lose. From the moment I walked in the store, I was greeted by friendly people with positive energy. I decided to 'test' them by asking them to fit me with frames that would look great on my face - not too over the top and not too boring. Just great frames. We decided on a frame and the only decision left was if I wanted the frame in black (a safe colour) or in blue (a colour that brought my eyes to life). I wanted to choose the blue but was a bit hesitant to get away from something safe. While everyone there agreed that the frame looked good in either the black or blue, all agreed that the blue brought my skin tone and eyes to life. I took a leap of faith and ordered the blue. I have been wearing them for 2 months and cannot believe the compliments - especially from total strangers! I am thrilled with my new look! The staff is fantastic - they know how to find frames to fit your face and your colouring so you don't waste time trying to do it yourself if you don't want to. The Optical at 50th and France is exceptionally amazing for selection and service. The best part is that, after the staff asks me what I'm looking for, they bring choices that not only meet my criteria, but also enhance my features in ways I couldn't have predicted. They also call me if a frame comes in that they think I might like. I've gotten maybe 11 or 12 pair there over the years, and the compliments keep rolling in. Seriously--3-4 compliments on my frames per week, usually from strangers who stop and stare for a moment, then say, "I LOVE your glasses!" Once I was driving down a street slowly and a car approached slowly from the other direction, and a woman lowered her window and shouted, "I LOVE your glasses!" I yelled back, "The Optical at 50th and France!" Somehow the staff at The Optical at 50th and France keep me looking edgy without looking goofy. And elegant, without looking stuffy. And ready for fun without looking reckless. How do they do it? All I can say is that the vibes and chemistry in there are spot-on. You may stumble upon frames that work for you somewhere else, but at the Optical at 50th and France you will be sitting at a little glass desk while Diana or Kevin bring you just the right options, and tell you immediately if they work with your bridge, face shape, special work needs (computer work, for example), skin tone, etc. Even if you think you love a pair for a second, they might break it to you gently that there's an insurmountable flaw, and you'll look in the mirror and realize...they're right, and breathe a sigh of relief that they didn't let you continue with a moment of temporary insanity. They've got your back, or, more accurately, your face. Not a trivial matter. read more
