A lady came out after I was sitting with my coffee for a few mins waiting for my bagel and the girl behind the counter told her I had a food order and apparently she had no idea and went back to make it. I got the bacon egg and cheese on Asiago cheese bagel. Bagel wasn't toasted and had no Asiago flavor. It was just eh A man came from the back to switch out the one set of menus at the register Didn't speak to me. I overheard the only other customers that came In tell their mom she was standing in something that was spilt on the floor by the two tables he looked at what they were speaking of and never acknowledged the spill or attempted to clean it up. He went back to the back of the store and I sat waiting for my bagel and he never came out to clean it up. In my mind I think he was the owner and that's unacceptable None of the employees I encountered spoke to the customers. We had such an experience recently at McCabe's BBQ in Manning, South Carolina. Driving north on I-95 from Jacksonville, my wife declared, "I want some barbecue for lunch." As she was driving I was tasked with finding a place where we could dine. Using Yelp, I first found a different bbq restaurant. Got great reviews. Served bbq. Yep, met all of the requirements. Yet some fellow Yelpers stated that it was only serving food to go. Nope. We need to sit and eat! Hence we ended up at McCabe's. Thank the heavens. The food heavens. It's a small unassuming place in Manning. I have no idea what else may be in Manning. Look, I didn't even know Manning was a place before today. Trust me. Stop in Manning. The food is served buffet style, but the incredibly friendly staff actually puts the food on the plate for you. We each had the all you can eat dinner. Because why not? There's lots of side choices, I had the "dirty" rice with hash on it. Honestly I can't tell you what's in the hash or how the rice is made, but it was amazing. The collard greens are some of the best I ever had, and the slaw, while a bit sweet for my taste, was still really good. There were also yams, okra, green beans, cabbage and stewed tomatoes. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. The pulled pork is phenomenal. On the table is Carolina bbq sauce (vinegar based. Not for everyone but i enjoy it). There is also fried chicken. Ok, I thought, I'll try it just to be nice. Holy Cow. Unbelievably good fried chicken! Get it. The drinks are limited to tea (sweet and unsweet), lemonade and water. It was small and the tortilla shell it was wrapped in it was hard. It wasn't fried either. It was one "big" chunk and absolutely no taste. He could hardly eat it. We go and pay for our food and we ask for the manager. My husband spoke to him very nicely. Told him what happened and all he said was "She's only been here for two weeks." I said that's no excuse because if she ever previously worked as a waitress she needs to find another job. The manager apologized over and over again. Then he says "Oh I'll give you a free dessert." when you come again. She didn't get a tip. As we were walking out the door I said to my husband that they don't have a snowball's chance in hell we'll be coming back.
