This is a friend's local so have been coming to this 'gastropub' quite often. Staff are friendly and professional and I get the impression that the locale, range of drinks on offer, comfortable but chic setting and food offer mean it has built up some loyal regulars. I am certainly reluctant to try elsewhere with The Other Place on the doorstep. The 'baby bowl' £5 option is a good deal - I love the veggie chilli - and filling enough. Mulled wine AND mulled cider are on offer at the minute. I always enjoy coming here and it genuinely feels like a second living room! My brother visited from the west end of Glasgow recently and got some 'you have a better, closer local' envy.

Great little place. Stopped in with our 2 yr old, who was allowed in until 8. They were very accommodating to her, even pulling out kiddie silverware. Food was very American, burgers and dogs. 3 cask ales and a great bottle selection. Overall a great stop. Very happy

i honestly could not believe when a friend told me she had visited a new bar in what was previously known as the stags head. see, the stags head was the type of bar i avoided, a popular local for the older men crowd who drink real beer and stand outside smoking cigarettes. definitely not the place for me. but then it shut and almost overnight it re-opened into a cool gastro-pub that was welcoming for all the young professional types that have been moving in the area as more and more new developments are built. i finally had a chance to try this place out when nikki a and i decided we needed a drink and some time to catch up. i arrived first and grabbed a seat in the corner of the front room bit. this bar is a bit odd as what appears to be the front entrance on rodney street brings you into what actually appears to be the back of the bar with a view into an open kitchen. two steps down brings you to the actual front area where there is a well stocked bar and massive windows that can be fully opened on a nice sunny day. we ordered a bottle of wine, reasonably priced, and contemplated the food menu for some nibbles. this place offers up a good array of pub grub but with a classy edge. i had the chili cheese fries, which was a massive bowl of a hybrid between a roasted potato and hand cut chip topped with shredded beef brisket in a spicy sauce and loads of cheese. it was delicious!! the chips, OMG, the chips! this hybrid between a roasted tattie and a hand cut chip was just awesome, they were crunchy on the outside but soft and fluffy inside and just soooo tasty. the beef brisket chili was also really good, with tender beef and a nice kicky chilli sauce. nikki a had the nachos, which i can also confirm were quite tasty! the service was friendly and they were quick to clear our plates and take our order to replenish our wine. however, while the chairs looked comfy i have to say i struggled to find a comfortable position to sit in. it was almost like the seat was just a bit too small for me. it's a small thing, but would sort of put me off staying in the bar for ages with drinks since i couldnt' get comfortable sitting. however, this bar is great! and sooooo close to me! i literally cannot believe the transformation it has went through and i'm definitely looking forward to making this my regular :)

A fantastic new bar in Cannonmills, Edinburgh. It's a big bar with lots of comfy seating and doors/windows that open right onto the street, the staff are all very good! The food is really enjoyable but could offer more on the menu and lastly The Other Place has good draft beer on tap for everyone and a wide rage of bottled beers... Just ask staff for the beer list! I go a lot for lunch but also good to visit at night!

    The breakfast burrito is delicious!

The first try was in the evening by and the wait was full. The second time was at lunch and with luck we got in. It is a pleasure! There are two places a few doors apart. One for reservations and one for the walk-ins. The place is modern and rustic, fits the vibe of the city. The staff are friendly and efficient with lots of knowledge about the food. The meal was outstanding. For a casual dining experience. This is a wonderful option. The haggis was a great version and the mash is lovely. Slightly creamy with the added flavors make it more than basic mash. The bacon and onion was not overpowering and complimented the haggis wonderfully. The lamb was perfect, fell off the bone with a deep rich sauce. The scotch bonnet added flavor without a lot of heat. The broccoli was perfectly steamed and still crispy. Everything was fresh and bright and balanced. We fully loved the entire experience!

As someone who truly loved little about Scotch, it was a wonderful way to taste and compare smoky vs peaty whiskeys. Fun. Our choices were truly delicious. We started with the fish board, olives, and mushroom skewer. We loved them all. I enjoyed the cod main dish, while my wife finished the starters. The side of asparagus was also excellent. The mouse dessert was delicious but very rich, it's enough for 4 people. The cost of dinner was also totally reasonable. I recommend this place highly.

There is outdoor dining too that would be nice if the weather was warmer. Cool vibe, but it is kind of dark inside the stone walls. The menu is Scottish-focused with seasonal ingredients. We didn't want to overeat, so we decided to share a starter and a main. We got the Scottish venison fritters, which were ok. We enjoyed the pappardelle pasta (roast pumpkin and pecorino sauce, wild mushrooms, spinach, bacon and poppy seed crumb, crispy sage). It was flavorful and didn't feel too heavy. Staff were friendly and it was an enjoyable lunch.

I mean who doesn't love a good pub? You get great drinks and great food at an affordable price. As I write it makes me think of think of when Zidane reunites with Freya in FF9. Sometimes we don't wanna eat at fancy Michelin restaurant that has small plates but charges a premium. Sometimes we just wanna cut all the BS and just get a nice hearty meal. And thats what we got. When we sat down we found out that they were doing a Trivia night. Normally I would have told my girl to pick another spot to eat but for some reason I was cool with it. There was even a table nearby with kids(yuck). And you know what? It was fine. That's because we had been sipping on some amazing cocktails. If you also partake, Gin and Mezcal enjoyers will love the Bramble and Hibiscus Crush. What color are Luigi's overalls from Super Mario? That's such an easy question. Wait...what do you mean Luigi's overalls are blue? They are green. Look at this picture onli...Oh... One of the stars of our meal was the Haggis. This was the first time I had ever tried it and after trying it at multiple places Scotland, Queens Arms I feel has done it the best. I love the complexity of the flavors of the meat with the creamy and pepper flavors of the peppercorn sauce. If you've never had Haggis, you definitely have to try it here. The best part is that it comes with mashed potatoes too! Shoutouts to the Fish and Chips if you are also into that. One of my friends ordered that and I definitely had to go back in for multiple bites. Finally the roast. The Sunday Roast should just be an automatic order if you happen to come here on a Sunday. You get so much food and it's all so damn tasty. They'll cook a roast to whatever doneness your heart desires. We went with Medium Rare and it came out perfectly. If you didn't have enough flavors with all the extra sides it comes with, they also give you gravy to pour on anything you want. Thanksgiving basically came early this night. But as I looked around and admired all the bookshelf's and all the families have a nice dinner with their loved ones, I just thought about how happy I was. I was finally here! This was the start of my trip. Queens Arms has set a high ceiling on great experiences in Scotland. We even went back there a couple of days ago just because we knew we would be able to end the night on a good drink. But in the end I think if you are Edinburgh, you have to come to this place. It is one of my favorite experiences I've had in Scotland so far and I dream about when I can come back again.

I tried to order different cocktails off the menu to taste as many as possible. I enjoyed every one of them which is surprising. Sometimes when a place tries to be different and interesting, the drinks can fall flat. These were exactly as described! I don't often eat here but one afternoon, we grabbed a cheese board, roasted turnip and hummus. The turnip was DELICIOUS. I was shocked since I never really care for them most days. I liked that the hummus was served with (i think) endive leaves. It added a nice crunch to the bite. The cheeses and bread were great. I have never seen one particular item before.... Pickled grapes. Wow. They were so interesting. The vinegar flavor was not strong but it added such a unique flavor to the otherwise sweet fruit.

From the Scotsman scallops to the steak pie and desserts like the sticky toffee pudding and cranachan teacake, everything tasted as good as it looked. This is the kind of place where you can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they send out.
