Friends shop here weekly and we always stop in with them when we're visiting even though there is another comic store much closer to home. The owner is friendly & always helpful. Great selection of new and old comics. Small area of "kid friendly" comics. We've special ordered a few items through Outer Limits with no problems. On a recent trip I was looking for a current, but hard to find book from an indie publisher. He couldn't find the book title on his order list and I couldn't remember the name of the publisher for him to look up, so instead he recommended two other stores that might have it in stock. When a store owner is willing to recommend a competitor, it speaks volumes about their customer service. Would recommend to anyone in the area or even just passing through. read more

While I moved away from Waltham a year ago, I still go back to this great comic shop for collectables whenever I am in town. Steve treats every person that walks in the door like a friend. He knows what you collect and even holds stuff if he knows it will be of interest to you. A franchise cannot do business like that. I checked this place out after sifting through my old comics and deciding to replace their plastic bags -- partially because they needed it but also as an excuse to explain to my wife things like why certain Image characters appear to have no feet or that "What If?" was good because it crammed an entire story into 30 pages instead of drawing it out for six months. But I digress. The store's selection is impressive. Lots of back issues, lots of graphic novels, and lots of classic memorabilia that I can't recall seeing anywhere else. Need a poster of someone from Charles in Charge? You're in luck. I'm not sure if the person working that day was the owner, but he was friendly, helpful, and seemed happy to be there. I'm a fan of this store. I try and support my local shop as much as I can and this place makes it easy. I come for the back issues. I love digging through a pile of old comics looking for just that one issue I can't find. This place has them in decent order and it is MUCH appreciated. They also have all your new issues and most of the trades you cask for. I plan to frequent this place as long as I live in the Waltham area. read more

I grew up in Maine, and in the part of Maine I was from there were no comic book stores. Trips to visit my father in Watertown as a child meant my brothers and I were going to be able to go to the Outer Limits! Which was the highlight of my teenage life. My father then moved away from Watertown, and the outer limits was almost forgotten, except now, I am almost 30, and through a weird twist of life, I now live in Waltham. And I decided to take a walk to see if my childhood comic book store still existed, it did, albeit a few blocks down, and I was overjoyed. I will be going here as often as possible. I love this store, I love the organized back issues, I love that the same man is behind the register. I love having a tiny piece of my childhood back in my life. read more

I moved to Waltham from Madison, WI and was worried I wouldn't be able to find a local comic book store that would pull comics - because I'm the type of collector who likes to pick up comics every few weeks, not every week. I found these folks online and reached out via email and got a near-instant response from the owner, Steve. Turns out they do pull comics and he took my list of titles right over email. Once I finally moved and stopped by the store, they were all waiting for me - perfect! The store itself is very well organized, they make it super easy to find the latest comics or explore different comics. While I wish the action figures were more centrally located, they have an excellent variety of comic book memorabilia and collectibles - I can tell I'm going to LOVE shopping here and will probably buy more than I should, because the merchandise is very well displayed and very tempting. read more

Fun story to go and browse. I always find something fun for myself and my son. I feeellike . Have to take him in as a coverlike I am not enjoying it as much as he is.however it reminds me of my childhood and the Saturday afternoons I would spend in the comic book store searching for new and old comics for my brothers and my collection. I always believe in supporting local comic shops, so I can admit I'm a little biased. Recently moving to Waltham has been a bit hectic, but while out and about exploring the city I wandered into Outer Limits. I fell in love with the massive collection of collectibles, and figurines. The collection of indie and 3rd party comics alone made my trip in there worth it, as they had many items that are an arm and a leg online now. Outer Limits is the best comic store I've shopped at, period, and I've been a collector for more than 20 years now. Steve brings in a pretty comprehensive cross section of the new comics available each week, and he's always willing to order any particular books that you might want. In addition, he's always got tons of pre-collected blocks of back issues that might not have been collected into trades, at reasonable prices, for when you've got a taste for a book you remember fondly that maybe didn't get the trade treatment. When I'd been shopping there only a few months, I ordered a limited edition Buffy The Vampire Slayer book for my girl's birthday. Even though I was a new customer, he refused to accept my deposit (The book was like $100), and when the book came in and I told him that I was giving the book to her that night, when I arrived to pick it up, he'd gift-wrapped it in an old Buffy poster for me. Show me another comic store where the owner'll do *that* for you. Now that I've been shopping there a few years and my taste in books is clear, every once in a while Steve will recommend a book or a trade to me, always with the caveat that if I don't like it, he'll buy it back (He's never had to, because he's always been right that I'll like it). The guy knows his customers, treats them well and gets them what they want. What more could you ask for? read more

The Outer Limits is one of the best comic book shops, or stores of any kind, that I've ever been to. It outclasses 99% of other shops without breaking a sweat, and it gives that last 1% fever chills in the middle of the night. Steve, the proprietor, is always helpful, laid-back, friendly, and he's very knowledgeable about comics. And sports. Well, I don't know anything about sports, but Steve sure seems to. He also tends to play great classic rock music in the store. Oh, right, the store: The Outer Limits is a well-lit, nicely laid-out shop with an absolute ton of comics available for very reasonable prices. Their collection of trade paperback and hardcover collections is the most complete that I've seen in any store of its kind. There's a wide selection of other collectibles in the store as well, but I am mostly a comic book reader, so I can't speak to that with much authority. The employee(s) have always been helpful and nice, and it's just a great store to hop into, even if you've never bought a comic book before in your life. Case in point: the Outer Limits is the only comic shop that my wife will willingly enter with me, for what that's worth :) read more

This place is great. I'm so lucky that it's walking distance from my house! This is THE place to pick up comics East of Route 95. Steve, the owner is knowledgeable, very helpful and can be counted on for excellent recommendations. For example, one time I was looking for a particular trade that he didn't have. But, he did have all the single issues and sold me the bundle at a discounted price. He also stocks used books, a plethora of back issues, figurines, models, games, hollywood photos & memorabilia, games, and a ton of other geeky stuff. It's a comic book fans heaven! If you are looking to get into comics and not sure what to get, head over to Outer Limits and talk to Steve and I'm sure he'll get you going in the right direction. It used to be you could walk down any Main Street USA and find at least one cool local bookstore, newspaper shop, or comics store. Those days are long gone, but it's comforting to know that the Outer Limits retains that old-time feel and welcoming atmosphere. A great place to browse and shop. read more

What can you say about the Outer Limits that hasn't already been said? Steve is an amazing shop owner, who didn't care if you were a 6 yr old on your allowance buying a single book, or that old tycoon that was dropping $300/week in comics. He treated everyone with respect as equals. A rare gem in this day and age when it comes to shop owners. He always managed to find great deals and just the right books/collectibles for me. This is the best comicbook/memorabilia/collectables...you get the point. My husband has been a huge comic fan since he was a child. I wasn't into comics as a child so it's what makes this place so amazing. The owner is normally always there, Steve. He knows my 3 children names by heart. They carry such an incredible collection of comic books and graphic novels and collector's items for just about any show, movie, or a childhood show you forgot you loved! Steve has regulars whom he takes care of by not only keeping their books off to the side in a personal bin but he also offers small discounts for his regulars. Steve, the owner, also goes all out once a year on free comic book day ,usually falls the first weekend in May. He has ordered very pricey graphic novels for me personally and if I'm having financial difficulties, he has let me pay each week. He is an incredible gentlemen who cares about his store, his customers, and each customer's experience store.
