Nice location but fresh halibut was frozen. Batter likely frozen, certainly dull and uninteresting. Mussels a 6/10.

Nice location next to the marina, lots of tables…read more I was very happy with the chowder, the butter chicken is a good order, fish and chips was popular, and the fried oyster appetizer was great but came on some limp arugula that brought it down a notch. People in our party of six were less impressed with the main dish mussels and beef dip. Overall the food was better than I expected given the captive summer tourist market in prime location. Presentation, setup, cleanliness was mid. There was also live music but it got weird when competing live music started at the next door restaurant so even though both performers seemed good, we couldn't enjoy either! These places need to collaborate. Otherwise you might want a table further from other restaurants or closer to the performer. Service on the slow side but that is the norm post-Covid in tourist places where staff is hard to find. I would go back but choose my outside table carefully.

Service was very poor with a unhappy, abrasive waiter, very slow to get food into place orders. My wife and I love oysters. We bought six each paid $54, these are the smallest oysters I've ever seen about the size of a small clam and did not have much taste. Beware. Prices have climb considerably while service and quality has suffered. Final insult was that there was a broken toothpick wedged in the bottle of my beer glass that I found while finishing the drink.

I have been a long time customer of DHOC. We love our oysters! The highlight of the dinner was to have Adam from DHOC set up am oyster bar at the party. It was the focal point of the dinner and a tremendous hit with our guests. Adam served, cooked and shucked raw oysters. They were all fantastic! I cannot say enough about how fun it was to DHOC at this party. We will definitely have them back again this summer. If you are hosting a party, add oysters to menu! They are the difference between a simple party vs. a fun culinary experience for your family and friends. Our friends are still contacting us to rave about the oyster bar! Thank you, Adam, for making this dinner extra special! We appreciate your hard work and excellent service! I wish I had pictures to share but I forgot to take them!

I appreciated being able to sample the dressing before ordering as I would not want the taste of anchovies to be too strong. The grilled sourdough bread was a nice finish to the salad. We had also ordered a side of bread and the herb butter was delicious! Hubby had the combo half basket with shrimp, oysters, and halibut and it was tasty and just the right amount. I enjoyed the kolsch and hubby the amber. We enjoyed eating outside on a warm, sunny day.

A very well balanced cocktail. The tuna credo on the starter menu is ridiculous. A generous portion of tuna with the perfect blend of olive oil, lemon zest, salt, pistachios, and green olives. Definitely a highlight! The salmon fish and chips were most excellent too. Other items ordered by our group were equally impressive. A huge thumbs up!!

(We've never visited the restaurant on previous Salt Spring trips over the years, so I'm not sure how new it is.) But they weren't covering some of the basics on our recent visit. The restaurant is clearly a recent renovation, at the very least, and looks lovely inside. The portions for both starters and mains were generous and more than we could eat, but that was partially because we weren't tempted to finish them. The food and drinks are uneven. Both our cocktails were made with a heavy hand on the sugar syrup. For example, I would have expected that in a rhubarb Paloma, the tart rhubarb would undercut the sugar pleasantly, but the rhubarb just seemed to be there to turn the copious sugar syrup a light pink. The wine list is also pedestrian. I ordered a lemon pasta with added prawns. The prawns were cooked well, and the sauce with capers was decent. The farfalle pasta itself, however, was complete mush. Al dente does not seem to be a concept the kitchen cares about, yet at $40 for a pasta dish, I have to say I expected properly cooked pasta at the very least. My partner said his mahi mahi was a bit overcooked but otherwise fine. It is disappointing that in an area of the world with excellent local seafood, few of the fish dishes they offer feature local fish. Service was...relaxed. Fortunately they didn't seem fussed about the time limit stated when we reserved. All in all, we're unlikely to return when we're back on Salt Spring.
