Parking? Fuhgeddaboudit. If you are going here for dinner, go early as you may have to wait for a spot and people don't generally carpool here. I was told to go here for the Salt Spring Mussels as they were in season. They were good, but the broth was bland as other reviews stated. They'd really benefit from a white wine and garlic broth. The garlic bread was great though! The fish and chips were solid. Gravies were a little lumpy, but overall pretty, pretty, pretty, good and the chips seemed fresh. The Famous Caesar will appeal to you if you like to drink steak sauce out of the bottle. Very heavy in the Worcestershire sauce. not a huge fan personally, but I could see how someone would appreciate it. The winner here is the atmosphere. It's a great location around sunset. This was a real disappointment for us. We came here a few years ago and really enjoyed it. This time, we waited over 1 hour for our food to arrive and the food quality was mediocre at best. And, the servers seemed really indifferent to the fact that our orders took so long. Literally, the ferry to Crofton left, went to Crofton, came back and unloaded the cars and we still hadn't been served. Also, the cost was over $100 for 2 of us and we only had one drink each. According to our kayaking guide, this is definitely the place to go for fish and chips! Although the restaurant was really busy, we were greeted pleasantly and seated right away (we had made a reservation) at a rustic table overlooking the Vesuvius ferry harbour. There's nothing like dining on a patio where you watch the ferry and private boats come in with the sunset in the background... Our son ordered the New England clam chowder and he inhaled it! I did get a little taste before it disappeared and thought it needed more cream. The garlic bread that came with the chowder was tasty and buttery, but it could've been toasted a bit longer. The special tonight was AYCE cod and chips. The cod was lightly battered (and fresh) with crispy chips. We were given very generous portions, so in the end we were too full to order more. The Caesar salad was more like a snack than a meal, even with the addition of a $10 piece of halibut. Tiny little 8 table restaurant located at the ferry terminal in Vesuvius that looks like your typical fishermans eatery. The service wasn't the best, but I won't even mention that (oh, whoopsy). Restaurants operate with a very thin profit margin. It's important to not waste anything. However, when something is bad, it should not be used. I arrived after the lunch rush, prior to hopping on a ferry to Vancouver. I ordered the pound of mussels, and the cod and chips. The mussels arrived first, and I dug in, and THEY WERE FOUL. I don't know if one bad mussel had contaminated everything, or if there were multiple bad oysters, but this was quite unpleasant. I actually sampled another one just to be certain, and called over my server, who took this off my check. I asked for my fish and chips to go, and they were fine as I waited for the ferry. The kitchen really needs to learn how to evaluate mussels (and perhaps other seafood; I don't know, but I won't know, because I'm not returning). By the way, the venue itself is awesome. Gold mine sucking the cash out. After many years of going I finally had to speak out. We come to Salt Spring every summer and for some reason we give it a try. Obvioulsy the location is the main reason. At least the most recent visit the flies inside the restaurant were somewhat undercontrol. But why wouldn't the owner at least spend a few hundred bucks on fans as this place is a sauna on a normal summer day. Why? Why would they not hire more staff as service gets slow. Yes it is hard to hire help on the island. But buy some fans if not AC. But really makes this place not worth visiting is the food. Not Coney Island double piece halibut as big as my head good, but pretty darn respectable fish and chips. Batter is crispy and not too heavy. Fries are well cooked and not oily or over salted, making them a prime potato base for a malt vinegar drowning.The pieces are a good size, decent price (considering you're on an island that generally jacks prices due to its islandness). The coleslaw is weird. It gets busy so go early or be prepared to wait. Be wary of getting stuck in the ferry "traffic". Patio boasts pretty spectacular views. They serve other things, including grilled fish and chips or salad option with your battered bliss but really... if you're craving fish and chips, those alternative aren't going to do it for you. We were rudely greeted at the door by the young woman behind the bar who chided is for not having reservations. She rudely told us we couldn't sit on the patio and placed us up in a hot, packed room. I have never been treated so rudely by someone welcoming me to their establishment. Our server was great and did the best she could but the kitchen was slow and food took a very long time. Came here because all the locals said it's the best fish & chips on the island. I hope not; their fish & chips was just average, and not at all what you'd expect for an island in a fishing area. The crab cakes were also not great; lots of filler. But, I've been spoiled on Maryland crab cakes so, have somewhat high standards. Upon arrival I hoped the ramshackle fishing town funk of this place would give way to a hidden gem but it didn't. Weird bathrooms outside as you walk down into a concrete bunker like entrance. Inside is a mix of garage sale furniture, ranch style decorations from the 80's and a deck that has a truly spectacular view. Maybe the fish and chips is the bees knees but we went tapas style, crab cakes were mushy and dense, lacked flavor and served with mayo. Calimari was ok but overcooked, lacked seasoning and served with diced tomato and red onions on top?? Caesar salad, pretty bad, dressing tasted like cucumbers, no salt or pepper, but added capers. Shrimp with ginger sauce, shrimp rubbery, sauce only vaguely reminded me of ginger, but mostly mayo. Worst garlic bread baguette I've ever had, obviously a freeze and thaw operation, cut in half lengthwise, brushed and broiled for a minute. Bread was raw and white inside and out, zero crust. Service started ok but waitress disappeared at the end so we walked our ticket up to the front register. The family at the next table was there when we arrived, by the time we left they hadn't gotten their food yet and moved inside because they were so cold. read more

Oh my goodness! We had an incredible experience at this quaint restaurant. Probably one of the most COVID-safe restaurants we've been to. Right away, the service was so nice from both people we dealt with. Food wise? Awesome! My wife had halibut fish & chips and she said the batter was delicious and the batter to fish ratio was perfect. As well, the halibut was so fresh. I had a curry seafood dish, served with rice and garlic bread. I got it extra spicy and it was terrific! Lots of delicious seafood and veggies! On Canada Day their dinner special was AUCE cod and chips. I started with a rich chocolate milkshake, made with Island Farms ice cream, and it was oh so ooey-gooey delicious. The fish pieces are lightly battered, and initial portion size was so big I could eat only half of my meal, never mind order more. We tried to stop in on a Saturday night without a reservation. They weren't able to accommodate us, so we made a reservation for Sunday evening out on the patio. The location is great, the view is beautiful, the service is horrendous. We arrived at 645, ordered by 655, and didn't get our appetizer until 730. We ordered the mussels, and after that long of a wait, they came out completely cold. Cold plate, cold broth, cold shells, cold mussels. We had to point this out to a different waitress, since ours hadn't come to check on us once since she brought our drinks, which were empty at this point. Our waitress came back about 2 minutes later with what was obviously the same plate of mussels that had had some sort of attempt at reheating. Not impressive. While we were waiting for our food, we had the chance to eavesdrop on several other tables that were also unhappy about the speed of the service. We heard the other waitresses making apologies and blaming the size of the kitchen. It seems ours was not an isolated experience. We both had fish and chips for dinner, and I do have to say that the halibut was very good. In the future, should life bring me back to Vesuvius, would definitely consider takeout. read more

This is a really traditional place (read as: if you don't want your grilled or baked fish overlooked, you need to tell them). Basic fish and chips were good, but other items a bit bland. We tried the roasted red pepper and shrimp soup and it was decent, but lacking much red pepper flavor. Salads okay, but at this time of year with all the fresh produce on the island, there's no excuse at a decent restaurant for pale pink rubbery tomatoes. We always go here for the fried halibut. It's almost always fresh, not frozen, and delicious. I've also had the clams and fries which are to die for, they're life changing, but not always available because they're fresh. The salads are surprisingly tasty too. Our host at the B&B we stayed on Salt Spring Island recommended this restaurant for the best seafood and it truly was. We had the best fish and chips (with fresh halibut) that we've ever tasted! Our waitress was out of this world - Pauline. She didn't try to pad our bill by requesting pricey dishes, instead, suggested that we go with the fresh catch of the day. She also recommended this dessert (Mocha cream cake) that was truly awesome! Not too sweet, very light, airy and delicious! It was such a wonderful dining experience. I've been going to this little restaurant since the late 70's and I confess that at least one of the stars I've given is simply for the location and the ambience. Nevertheless I've always had great food, crab cakes and fries especially. The service is not slways something to write home about, but that's mainly a product of limited staff in a tiny kitchen operating a very popular spot. As for the building, yes it can get excruciatingly hot, especially upstairs. The secret is to book far enough ahead that you can get on the patio, or on the main floor. And to remember that the charm of the Seaside is that it is in a funny little building in a kind of out-of-the-way place on a beautiful island. read more

She basically refuse to help a mother and her young girl who were stranded in their broken down car, which is within walking distance to the restaurant. The view from the patio is stellar, especially for a summer sunset, but make sure you book in advance in the peak months.Tthe service is excellent, as is the fish.
