Wednesday morning and it is reasonably quiet. The tables we were at are shared with another tea room and it doesn't take much imagination to see that it would be bedlam on the weekends and lunch times. Both tearooms are a distance from where they prepare the food and our waitress said she covers 10 000 steps per day. The coffee was OK but a bit light on with the chocolate. The food came out very quickly so the coffee ended up a bit cold. The omelette and eggs Benedict were very nice. Prices as expected for this area. I think was a bit over-rated! One of our friends had highly recommended. We were visiting from the US and wanted to check it out! Our kids refused to go with us- so it was just my husband and me. We clearly did not order right- not knowing what to expect and since the server told us one will not be enough for the 2 of us we ended up ordering 2 hi-teas. My husband doesn't eat fruits or fruity desserts- so his $65 platter I thought was a waste of money, since he ended up not even being able to eat many of the tit bits from the platter. In hindsight - we might have liked it better if we ordered one of these platters and another entree from the menu! I liked the things- but overall I think was too expensive for the value- none of items was extra-ordinary! On a good note, the tea set was cute, and the location also! read more

A lovely high tea place in QVB...however there are a lot of improvements that can be made (but dont blame them, with the high traffic they get over the weekends...there is no incentive for the business to make those improvements) Food was alright. The waitress did give us a hard time for not informing them that we wanted "savory" food/ lunch when we made our reservations (eh, like how am i supposed to know?!). We had the prawn linguini and a set of non-diary high tea. The prawn linguini was really good but the portion size is quite small for what it cost. The non-diary high tea was a let down, nothing was good. I will definitely not recommend the non-diary choice The menu looked really worn out and the tea cups/ pots definitely need polishing... Service was hit-and-miss.... Given the number of choices of high tea in Sydney, not sure if i will be back. read more

The place is located conveniently in the heart of city , level 1 of QVB. Had a high tea there on a Saturday morning with a bunch of my girlfriends . Have to say what shocked me was the service , I have been to quite a few high tea places and this place's service has definitely not as fancy as it looks from the outside. We sat near the cash register so we constantly have to " shout " at each other if we want to get the message through to the person sitting opposite us just because the staff was taking care of other customers or intruding their tea range .... ( if u know u would do that would not you design the sitting a little bit better so minimise the interruption ? Just saying ) I didn't even bother take a picture because i didn't feel i was getting the service that I paid for. But my girlfriend did, as it is attached . From the picture you can tell their he cakes or sandwiches are okay, and they do just taste okay. I seriously cannot remember one thing I had from there was tasty or amazing. The tea was served in this massive pot which is good and convenient so you don't have to ask every 1 minute unlike other high tea places. Overall I didn't like the experience as I had higher expectation for a high tea place as their name suggested. But would be still ok to chill if you are tired from all the shopping :) I would recommend go in and ask for a quieter spot so u can enjoy urself like you are having a high tea rather than feel Like you are eating at the China town night market.( U might get better food at Chinatown tho . just saying ) read more

I visited here on a Sunday morning when the cafe was relatively busy, but not over-crowded. I found a table and sat patiently waiting to be served. I was acknowledged by a waiter and given a menu to browse. Sometime later the same waiter came back and I placed my order. I was also given a glass of cold water while waiting for my order to arrive. When my order did arrive, the food I ordered came first, but the drink I ordered did not come with it. The drink was not delivered to me until just before I finished as much of the food order as I could eat, which was not at all satisfactory! The food was "okay", at best. The sandwich fillings weren't really that exciting or tasty, and the bread was somewhat stale. Not worth the money I paid for them. Although this place is a bit fancy, and away from the crowds of the food areas on the lower ground floor, I'm not sure I'd return again - overall it was quite disappointing. read more

I had some time to kill following a meeting in the city and walked past this little tea room on my way to another cafe - I thought it looked quite cute, quaint and interesting with the tiered platters and various patterned tea pots as decoration. I was approached to be seated and the waitress headed in the direction of outside the shop, I asked if I could be seated indoors and she answered that they had a few reservations, but would somewhere in the middle be ok? She repeated this standard phrase to anyone who asked for inside and I did not see anyone come in for their reservation in the time I was there, so I think the busier it looks from outside the better for business!! I was bought 2 menus these were once very nice, but now worn, stained and ripped. The pretty sugar bowls were glued to the table (surely no need for that in the QVB). The selection of teas and food was good, but once bought they did not return to top up the tea pot with hot water, or see if I needed anything else. I waited for some time to try and catch the eye of someone to bring the bill, to no avail, when o went to the counter a waitress was inappropriately engaged in personal conversation quite loudly. She paused and said if you go wait over their - pointing near the front, I'll be there in a minute. She did come down quite quickly after that. I had made a trip to the Queen Victoria Building to see the gorgeous building and to have tea at The Palace Tea room. I travelled in by train from the northwest suburbs to the Town Hall station with a thought that I should be able to find my way to the QVB. Lo and behold- the exit from the train drops you right into the building. There are many shops in the historic building and lots of chances for photos. I finally found the tea room and began perusing the menu. Due to a large brekkie- I only ordered a pot of tea. The vanilla cormoro is a full bodied black decaf tea with heavy vanilla aromas and flavor. It was delicious and I felt in another world with the lovely cup of tea. read more

On the recommendation of a friend, we booked here for a friend who had flown from Melbourne for a Birthday lunch occasion. On arrival we were received with a lack of enthusiasm even though we had booked in advance. When we were seated, the menus brought out and then glasses of water provided. We ordered with the waitress and the food came out as expected. The food was delicious but the service was atrocious! We had to ask for more water, get our own salt and pepper shakers (as there wasn't any wait staff to ask). All the wait staff were busy taking food orders outside to diners seated outside the restaurant. After our mains were finished we sat for half an hour with empty plates in front of us. I had to verbally call out and raise my hand to get a staff members attention to order our next course. Then the empty plates were cleared that had sat on the table for at least fifteen minutes after we had finished eating. Next we ordered two servings of Devonshire Tea and scones. The warm plates were brought to the table in anticipation of the arrival of fresh, hot scones! We waited for another half hour before I enquired where our order was? The waitress checked only to come back to inform us that "unfortunately the waiter had forgotten to even place our order!" What a total waste of time it has been coming to this place! We immediately asked for our bill and were disgusted with the lack of service and informed the waitress that we will never return. What a disappointment after having read and heard such nice comments about this place. Let this review be your warning! read more

Warning - the scones are big, so if you are thinking about the Devonshire tea as a snack, you may want to think of it as a meal. The Palace is located on level 1 of QVB, away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds on the ground level. It's a nice place to just sit and chill, enjoy one of their many teas and have some scones or cakes. The Devonshire tea may seem a little pricey at $18 but when you see and eat the scones, it all makes sense. Served with fresh cream and jam, they are still warm when my companion and I break them apart. The Devonshire comes with two, a plain and a raisin scone, and I'm ashamed to say that I went on an afternoon when I had eaten a decent sized lunch, so had to resort to taking one scone home with me. read more

The best scones I have ever tasted.. Light and fluffy and slightly crispy on the outside. Fresh strawberry jam with fresh whipped smooth cream. These scones were perfect. Fresh club sandwiches and delightful small sweet cakes all perfectly presented on the high tea stand.... One each which was bliss as I did not wish to share any of it. The large grandma pot of earl gray tea was perfectly brewed and thirst quenching. Recommend the high tea for those who have skipped lunch! Service was fast and efficient despite the large number of patrons at 3pm. read more

A great little place in the QVB if you're looking for tea and scones, high tea or an all day breakfast with champagne! I found this place with my usual group of friends on a slightly hungover Sunday looking for all day breakfast in the city which was a surprisingly hard feat as it was past 2pm and most of our usual haunts finish breakfast before that time. Palace Tea Room saved us! There was bacon and eggs a plenty and they were good. Their all day breakfast menu is divine! I wish I had tried the buttermilk pancakes because they looked amazing but bacon was calling me. Whilst I admit that paying $4 each for a side is pricey (and I wanted hash browns and spinach as well as the bacon) it was worth it. You get a lot of food for that $4. I think they have me at least 5 pieces of bacon and 3 large round hash browns which were scented with herbs and cheese. Yum! I would love to come back here and try their afternoon teas or their lunches. I give this place a 3 stars though as it's on the pricey end of the spectrum. Not surprising due to the location but sometimes it's worth it! read more

This place is all about the atmosphere. If you are a tea lover, you won't be too impressed. Most of their teas are fruity. I was hoping for some good red or white teas, but no. And the good is quite expensive. It was good but seriously expensive for what you got. Probably won't come here again. read more

we thought that we might try someplace different to have coffee instead of in your regular cafe when we come into the city on Sundays. this place looked nice on the outside but when we sat inside it was a different story. first off, the chairs were old and torn and needed replacing or just a very deep clean as they looked filthy. when we said we just wanted to have coffee the waitress seemed cold and off putting that we weren't ordering everything else that they had on the menu. their menu also needed replacing as their paper was stained and torn from constant viewing. so far this wasn't coming off to a good start. after we ordered, we waited 10 minutes for the coffee with 5 of those minutes looking at the cups sitting on the tray waiting to be given to us with no one at all bothering to bring them over. we had to motion for someone to give them to us. i was just about ready to walk out that's how bad it was. being a sunday, you would expect better service especially if a lot of people are dining there. i think take your money somewhere else where you are treated better and not thinking you owe them something for working on that day. the whole place was messy as well with boxes in an area where we can see them as well. we will never come here again and hope mangement does something about this business as its not looking good. coffee can be better. but its just not worth it. there are better ones around QVB read more

Horrible service and not accommodating. I would never recommend this place to anyone. One of the worst dining experience ever.

We really like this place however there are a couple of things that led us to give this place before. First of all, initially our waitress was fairly attentive however she drifted off to lunch and it was very near impossible to find out who we even needed to talk to to get a bill. Also, it was a little bit expensive. As far as the quality of the food and the tea, it was quite good. Maybe just pay in advance so you don't have to be held hostage on the way out. read more
