In general what you are paying for is the general location and proximity to beach that is owned by the Reach hotel and the location is prime and awesome, but this place has items the owner did not fully disclose. There is no sink in the bathroom so you have to brush teeth and wash hands in the kitchen sink, or shave at the kitchen sink. The toilet did not work when we arrived, it was fixed 24 hours of our stay so to be fair the owners are clean and responsive to issues. However, we did not arrive until 8 PM so they had plenty of time to fix it before we arrive so we were surprised that we had to deal with it while we were there for our first 24 hours, did not leave a good first impression. The unit is 1/2 the size of the downstairs unit, but the owner charges you the same price, don't let them con you into believing they are worth the same money they are NOT. I originally began talking to her about the down unit and she was supposed to hold for me and did not get back to me timely and before we nailed down it all the down was booked on VRBO and I was stuck with upstairs which I was told was as good and some people like it better. That is a joke, I cant imagine anyone liking the upstairs better then the downstairs for the same amount of money. The place is good if you can handle a little rustic and quirky and an owner that is nice but scattered and not very organized in communications. I hope it was not intentional, I don't think it was but the communications were all over the place. Bottom line, it was clean and a great location, you just have to put up with adequate appliances, odd shaped rooms, no sink in bathroom and TV that worked when it wanted too.

The living area is spacious and the kitchen is very well equipped. Most importantly, the beds are exceptionally comfortable as are the recliners in the living room. We especially enjoyed dinners on the deck overlooking the boats on the canal and the skyline of KCB with palm trees swaying in the breeze. We were within walking or biking distance to pickleball, par 3 golf, tennis, beautiful Inch Beach, and all of the restaurants on KCB. We launched our kayaks from the dock in front of the property and enjoyed boat rides and occasional sunset cruises. You can't beat the location and charm. We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa for a girls weekend with…read morelifelong friends. The pool was typically empty which we enjoyed. It was walkable to many places we wanted to visit. The air conditioning worked great, it was cute, clean and comfortable. There were a few issues though: We flew into Fort Lauderdale and arranged for a late check in. They were supposed to leave a key with our room info on it, so you can imagine our surprise after a 3 hour drive (a 3 hour flight before that) when we arrived in the pouring rain, exhausted from traveling all day to find that nothing was left for us. We had to call at almost 3am to get what we needed to get into our room. We had to ask for towels several times before we received them. There were 4 of us women staying in the rooms and to our complete dismay we discovered that the hot water only lasts through 1.5 showers before the water is so frigid it literally stings your skin. It was so bad we thought maybe the pilot light went out and had maintenance come. Nope. Nothing could be done to fix the problem. For what we paid ($$$$) we shouldn't have had the mishap during check in or have to fight over hot water.

Once we got there everything was great, Jose at the front desk was awesome and helpful. Looks like they have been fixing and keep updating the place. The few comments I would note are petty. So here they are update the cheap ice buckets, put nicer (not plastic) wine and drinking glasses in the kitchenette. Replace the plastic toilet paper holder with bar code. This place is nice enough to support these items being upgraded. We were in #14 cabana and other than these few petty things I mentioned everything else was great. It was cool out so I don't know if the room would be hot in the summer. I didn't get to see the other rooms, but our room was clean and spacious. We had three different types of pillows (soft, medium, firm) so that was great. The bed was comfortable as well. Located off of Duval St. not on it upper duval area. There are a lot of nice places close by (Rum Bar, Uva, La Te Da, Flamingo crossing ice cream, Banana cafe). Safety note: They need to adjust the main front door that leads to the courtyard area. It closes really slow and stays open. I did hear some of the ladies commenting on it. I would recommend the Douglas House and hopefully going back soon.

Starting with the reservation process. Very cordial and informative. Check in couldn't have been easier. I was given an access code to enter the property and the keys were ready for me. Pulling into the lovely 4 bedroom home there was a welcome sign hanging with my name on it! Nice touch. 3 floors with an elevator and large and roomy. If you had friends and family staying, you definitely wouldn't be crowded. I know how it is being around family too long sometimes, lol. You are right on the Gulf of Mexico with beautiful views, amazing sunsets and sunrises (where can you do that!). Very clean and elegant. A walk in pool, hot tub, tiki bar, clubhouse with activities and other amenities! Incredible staff and amazing relaxing spot. PS, you can even get a private chef!!!! Say less.
