This is a family-friendly cafe so if you have kids they're more than catered for - 100s and 1000s on the kids cups and a drawing area for their imaginations to run amok. Should kids not be your thing, be prepared for the little rugrats to be, well, be kids - making noise, running around and burning energy. If you can deal with that then you're in for a treat in a cafe that was once a dark and dreary looking antique store.

Menus were already on the tables and they were trialling table service, which was executed promptly. Coffee was made well and the breakfast was filling, reasonably prices and well presented. I had the vegetarian breakfast of haloumi, tomato and spinach with toast. My partner had the mushrooms and we both had no complaints. A few flies buzzing around was the only frustration, but something that it difficult to avoid at this time of year. I look forward to going back and trying other options.

In the end I set my sights on the Breakfast Banana Split - fresh banana, berries (raspberries and strawberries), toasted museli, grated dark chocolate, toasted coconut and, frozen whipped banana). Served in a sundae glass it felt a lot more "naughty" and calorie-laden than it actually was and the frozen whipped banana (a great recipe with ridiculous ease) gives this a creamy sensation without the regret later in the day! Verdict: The coffee is consistent and for commuters stoping enroute to the train, this is key. The menu is cute and quirky and from my experience today backs it up with the goods. Four weeks in since opening, locals have clearly adopted this new kid on the block as their own and there's already customer / barista first-name-basis relationships in action. But, to be honest, it didn't blow me away. It's a great staple for locals but not for a trip to visit here alone.

Don't be on the phone when you order and don't bring you three wide pram and park in the middle of the main thoroughfare. If you are one person, sit at a table appropriately sized for your oneness. Coffee is Genovese and is consistently great. Food is tasty and reasonable portions for reasonable prices. There are often specials on the board so check those out.

On the other hand, W is a huge brand so maybe they're risk-adverse? And the swordfish main course was recommend medium rare but again otherwise not particularly innovative. And to be fair, sticking with the seafood, per the recommendation of all the servers, may have been a mistake on my part. I'd recommend turning in to the hotel driveway and parking in their car park. Of course this is ticketed so you will need to pay. Good news is you don't have to be a guest to use the car park so you can drive straight in and take a ticket. The restaurant is spacious and open plan. It is welcoming and certainly the decor is modern and interesting by design. One small complaint, being of mature age I appreciate a comfortable and padded chair when out for dinner and the chair I had was neither. After a couple of hours my backside was needing a break! Anyway, the menu is limited but diverse. All the dishes were interesting and appealing. I had the only steak on the menu which was a 500 gram t-bone. I was in a party of eight so two others ordered the t-bone... in total two medium and one rare. Others in the party ordered fish, bugs and chicken. We also ordered some starters which was a sweet potato hummus and a fava bean and anchovy dip. Bread was an organic sourdough with cultured butter. All were delicious. Mains arrived all at once which is a real necessity in my books however the waiter could not identify which of the three steaks was the rare one. He simply placed one down in front of the person who ordered it and said "that should be it". One diner received an incorrect meal which was promptly returned to the kitchen and replaced with the correct one. No real drama, these things can happen. All diners enjoyed their meals with no complaints whatsoever. The portions were generous and all were visually appealing. My steak was delicious., cooked perfectly, juicy and tender. The meals don't come with sides so we ordered a mix of different dishes including asparagus, roasted garlic and rosemary potatoes and carrots. All were delicious. In terms of drinks the beer and wine lists were extensive and well represented. Service was efficient and slightly ambiguous. Whilst everyone was pleasant I didn't see anyone smile or engaging in terms of recommendations when requested. In all, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a slightly upmarket but relaxing atmosphere with great views, excellent food and a very good list of wines and beers.

Suffice to say, if you've not yet ventured to this cafe on Arthur Street, I'd do so pronto. King Arthur is the new family member from the same folks that brought us Merriweather Cafe. Their ethos and value around high quality seasonal food remains and so do the friendly faces behind the counter. Similarly, just as the creation of the menu might has been considered and carefully constructed, the way in which the meals are crafted from the kitchen are given equal care and attention. I've been both for lunch and breakfast now and each time it has been a calming escape with a side of soul food. The gnocchi with lemon and tarragon in their opening days was, in true Goldilocks style, just enough. The serving size that good amount with gnocchi to savor but not be in a land of regret about the quantity you've devoured. And if you're so inclined, treat yourself to a post-lunch treat from their range of baked goods. I'd recommend the raspberry frangipane tart if it's available. The staff were also very attentive and cleared away plates as soon as we were done, always asking if we had enjoyed our courses. Essentially, I felt like I was being looked after, and it was nice. Merthyr Road is a really great and lively strip and Vue takes the cake in a really classy way. I recommend it for an intimate dinner with a fresh twist.
