Oh, how I loved my wedding at Morning Star Chapel this past weekend! From the moment we saw the…read morechapel, we knew it's where we wanted to get married. With white flowers all around, we didn't need to do anything to prepare for our actual wedding. While the church itself sat everyone in pews with ease, we squeezed 80 friends and family members into the reception room for a luncheon after we said, "I do." It was a tight fit, but we made it work. I imagine 50-60 people could sit more comfortably, but we loved it, anyway. Long tables and banquet chairs are provided, but we did have to decorate this room ourselves. While we had our own officiant, John was a huge help to us as we planned and cued the music for us during our ceremony. Tucked away in a side street in Plainfield, it turned out to be the perfect location for our almost perfect day!

With a 100 foot ceiling and the walls that appear to be almost all glass, the three floor-to-ceiling stained glass bring out a wonderful, colored light. Because of the design of the nave walls, you enter in almost relative darkness and it's only as you turn and return to the rear that the whole building shines. And then you'll see the Reddel Memorial pipe organ which has more than 5,500 piles. The building is open to the public between 7am and 6pm. There are active services here and if the Lutheran persuasion is your thing, you will enjoy them. If not, stop by when there aren't services and tour the open building. It's bound to impress. They offered outside space but I turned it down since the place will already be full with another wedding. They also offered to help find other options but I can't trust them now. Upon entry the first thing that really grabs your attention is the worn out dirty carpet in the foyer AND sanctuary . Grooms room is extremely small with some updated furniture same for the bridal suite. There is a pungent musty odor throughout the building. There is also no sound system , you are expected to provide that yourself. After reading the owners backstory where she states that she felt it her mission to make a brides experience lovely yet affordable-- she is definitely not up for negotiation on affordability at all. We tried talking to her about omitting certain items and doing some of the manual labor ourselves in order to offset the overpriced cost for the facility and was She absolutely not budging on cost. Her response was "that's not how we do things around here ". They advertise that there is a banquet tent however they no longer offer the tent service for your reception you must now purchase/rent your own which can cost up to an additional thousand dollars and you must provide your own insurance (another cost of $100+) on top of the rental for the church. They have labor charge of $500 which is setting up tables and chairs. Again... We asked if we could do the manual labor ourselves or other ways we could offset the price we were always met with a snarky attitude followed by the answer NO . Makes me wonder if her backstory is even authentic! Also, I am surprised at any 4 star reviews. Makes me wonder if they're her friends and family- I can not see as to why they would have rated 4 stars otherwise.

When I mentioned there were no bubbles, I was told that's how it was made. What? Open a new can! Tadah. Once again was outside service or in house? Who knows? Here is where the ratings go down the toilet...literally. Guest bathrooms or shall I say outhouse. To expect elderly women to go up wobbly stairs to go to the bathroom is obnoxious especially if they are dressed up. It is also a liability. Pumping a toilet to get it to flush was so weird especially given the pristine surroundings. Grandmas deserve better! Show your guests some respect and at least allow an option for a nicer loo. (I guess it was good that I barely ate or drank because it limited my needs to go.) Loved the venue but I think they need to do more of the guests and not just the folks writing the checks. So I guess I'd say beautiful place for a wedding but the reception aspect needs to be revisited.

They were professional, knowledgeable and supportive, and very quick to respond to our many questions. The entire property is stunningly beautiful, from the farm itself to the newly renovated bridal suite, the groom's room, the outdoor ceremony space and the inside event barn space. We were extremely pleased with Cindy's recommended vendors especially Catering by Jonathan Byrd's and our wedding coordinator Save The Day Sisters. I highly recommend this venue for a wedding!
