La Scuola is absolutely comparable to them and I am happy to add that the Faculty is caring, enthusiastic and very attentive to each and every need of the kids. The bi-lingual education (+ French as a third language) is an incredible plus, and also for an American student it is a great privilege to read immortal authors in their own languages, English, Italian, French or Latin. The International Baccalaureate Diploma, also, is a great opportunity for kids to challenge themselves (and la Scuola is among the very few schools in NYC to offer it!) and an effective boost for the most important College Institutions around the world. Last but not least: at La Scuola, kids did not loose a single hour, due to the pandemic. They immediately set up a perfect environment for online schooling, and since the reopening in Sept 2020 they are at school in person. New Design High School was visited twice to attend the following Rooftop Film Events: The"Polite Society" Advanced Screening was held in 2023. Because it was raining that day, we were directed to New Design High School's Auditorium in the lobby instead of the school's rooftop area. New Design High School's Auditorium is spacious, clean and the seats were comfortable enough as we watched Polite Society. "Rooftop Film Presents: 20th Anniversary of Napoleon Dynamte" Screening was at New Design High School this year. This event celebrated the movie Napoleon Dynamte, created in 2004 & which is considered a cult-classic. We enjoyed viewing Napoleon Dynamte, as it was displayed on New Design High School's rooftop floor via a big screen surrounded by beautiful art murals after the sun set. New Design High School has colorful & vibrant murals / artwork. Rooftop Film Events we have seen showcased at New Design High School have been well organized & well-coordinated. Looking forward to any other Rooftop Films screenings that will be at this school.

It also became clear that it was a very difficult place for the teachers to work, resulting in our child's beloved teacher leaving midyear. Our kid was moved to a different class, with a teacher who seemed both overwhelmed, ill-prepared, and was assigning age-inappropriate work. The last few months of our final year there were barely tolerable. The school has also had some instances of safety protocol issues, like when a 2-year-old somehow left the school grounds on their own and was found on the sidewalk by their mother. The school was mostly closed down by the DoH for this infraction for over 4 weeks. This was not handled in a conscientious or thoughtful way by the administration, but instead was handled defensively. We tried very hard to work with the school to strengthen communication and parent-school relationships, but were met with defensiveness, evasiveness, and eventually hostility. I would not recommend this school to any family, unfortunately.
