I'm skeptical of these glowing reviews, so I'm writing my own. I took my dad to a brunch and learn there. It was impressive. They have a new culinary director which sounds luxurious. The food was delish. Dad didn't love the coffee but he can make his own. :) The staff has been there a long time and the ownership is also long-term which I find stable. There are a lot of pluses, but the icing on the cake was that each of three different residents talked to us in passing, and they were very cheerful and appeared happy. My dad is excited to move in soon, and it's a relief to the rest of the family. We're looking forward to my dad experiencing the Men's club, weekly happy hour, and nightly movies. My father lived in this facility for nine months, during which he fell 13 times, despite my clear and early disclosure that he had Parkinson's dementia. Rather than revising his care or offering support, the facility ultimately evicted him after his final fall, labeling him a "fall risk"--a fact they had known since day one. They violated legal eviction procedures by failing to give a 30-day notice, and informed me while I was out of the country, leaving my father in the hospital and me scrambling to find a new place for him. The lack of empathy during a vulnerable time was inexcusable. To make matters worse, the facility said the only way they would allow him back was if I paid for a private 24/7 nurse--an expense they knew was unrealistic. This was clearly a tactic to push him out while appearing cooperative on paper. Not sure if Aireen T. is still the director but she is not responsive, professional, caring, or compassionate at all. I had to involve Ombudsman to get responses from her on everything. There are also serious safety and staffing concerns. During a power outage in the heat of summer 2024, the facility had no backup generator. We overheard firefighters asking staff where the generator was, and staff admitted there wasn't one. During this incident a female resident was stuck in the elevator for literally hours on a hot summer day!! It was horrifying. Others, like the woman across from my father's room, were left in the dark yelling "hello, is anybody there?" My family and I went to her to calm her down ourselves as no staff member checked on her or other residents to reassure them during this electricity outage. They are clearly understaffed and many of the caregivers are not certified CNAs, and it shows. Staff routinely defer to residents' refusals for essential care, and hygiene, rather than providing informed, proactive support for those with cognitive conditions. Many times I showed up and I could smell he hadn't showered. When I asked staff why they would say that he refused so they didn't do it. Medication for my father was not consistently dosed at a consistent time which was also a huge problem. My father also experienced racism from two other residents, and when I raised this with the Director Aireen, they brushed it off--blaming the behavior on health issues such as UTI and did nothing to protect or acknowledge the harm done to my father. Aireen and executive management did nothing to soothe our concerns. This facility is not safe, not equipped, and not compassionate. I would not trust them with any loved one under any circumstances. read more

STOP YOUR SEARCH! If you are looking for an assisted living facility for your loved one, Parkview is THE place. I had my Mom at a different facility, that ended up being terribly managed. From the outside, that other place looked fine, but the care and attention provided was horrible. The last thing I wanted to do was move my Mom, as she was 90 and had dementia. But, one of the housekeepers at the old facility told me to check out Parkview, so I did! Parkview, from the director all the way to the janitorial staff, is amazing! No matter when I visited, her room was always clean, her clothes were clean and SHE was clean. My Mom formed relationships with many of the residents, and ALL of the staff. Whenever I was visiting my Mom, and she would see one of the staff, she would introduce me to them (some, many times LOL) and they were always not only loving to my Mom, but also super friendly to me. When she ate in the dining room, the staff there always knew what my Mom liked and would often show up with her favorites, without her having to ask. My Mom has recently passed, and again, all of the staff was very kind in helping me deal with my loss. Parkview should be the template for how ALL assisted livings are run. But they are not all run this well. I highly recommend Parkview for your loved one. read more

My 85 yo father with Parkinson's moved into The Parkview October 2023. He's very happy and settled in quickly. My brother and I are beyond relieved how well Dad's doing now. He's much more active and eating so much better now than when he lived alone 3 hours from us. Dad raves about the food, joins the 10am exercise class almost everyday, found a nearby bridge game at the senior center next door, enjoys bingo and corn hole, joined a couple planned field trips to local places, uses the provided free shuttle to go to his Dr appts on Wednesday's when needed. He used the weekly shopping trip shuttle once to Walmart and plans to use it again soon to Target. He's made many friends and shares stories. Lots of activities are provided for everyone. He's commented more than once how nice and large Pleasanton is in addition to how easy it was finding all new doctors nearby. The staff are very friendly and know my dad by name. Dad's room is bright and well maintained by the staff. We couldn't be happier with The Parkview. read more

The Parkview has been amazing, from the start! The staff was wonderful working with me on tours, room selection, all info that I needed regarding moving my parents in to make us all feel comfortable. They have a beautiful 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment which overlooks the park. Plenty of windows & space. They are well taken care of & looked after. They enjoy the food, activities & outdoor areas. My mother has been in an assisted living environment going on 8 years now. I recently moved her to the Parkview 13 months ago. Her room is bright and inviting. With my mother's Dialysis, the staff are so responsive, respectful and supportive. They have taken such wonderful care of her that I moved my mother in law there as well. After touring several assisted living facilities with my dad, we decided on The Parkview. During our initial tour, Patrick was so kind and helpful. He understood that this was a difficult decision for my dad, who struggles with dementia, so he directed the tour and had conversations with my dad. He encouraged his involvement and questions. Treating my dad with this type of respect and compassion made it easy for my dad to decide that this was the place for him! The staff is warm, compassionate, and caring. They take the time to make my dad feel welcome. His apartment is spacious and clean. He raves about the meals and has the weight gain to prove it! The activities are varied and inclusive. The convenience of walking out the back gate to stroll in the park or go to the Senior Center is definitely a plus. Our parents needed to relocate to the Pleasanton area from the East Coast, and we selected The Parkview based on its location, fee structure, facilities and inviting environment. Their 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment was spacious and quiet with a lovely view of the adjacent park and senior community center. Patrick and the staff were warm and welcoming, and the staff was very attentive to the safety and security of the residents. My mother enjoyed the daily exercise classes, and my father was comfortable going on a daily walk around the nearby park. A highlight for my mother was our trips to the nearby Pleasanton farmers' market on Saturday mornings. Although we recently transitioned them to the South Bay to be closer to where we live, we do recommend considering The Parkview for senior assisted living in the East Bay. read more

My 88 year old mother has lived at the Parkview in Pleasanton for over two years and the care has been exceptional. She is well cared for and in a very clean and safe environment. My Mom has lived at the Parkview for two years now and she really loves it! Their amazing staff is kind, considerate and very professional. Thanks to (Parkview Director) Sylvia Zaininger, Aireen Tibon and The Bridge Housing after being wait listed for 18 months I finally got the call, an apartment was available. While we were ready to secure the apartment, a family issue thwarted our efforts to the extent we lost the apartment. Devastated by losing this opportunity after 18 months of waiting, both Slyvia and Aireen were patient, understanding and assured me my mother would not lose her spot on the "Wait List" she would be called again and that this sometimes happens when some family members are skeptical of moving a parent into assisted living. After another number of months, Aireen called me again that yet another apartment opened up. We were able to traverse the family issues that had plagued us earlier and I moved my mother into Parkview a year ago this December. Now that Mom is in Parkview she is showered and dressed (on her on accord) by 8am every morning and down in the dining room for breakfast! She never misses a meal or Bingo or the afternoon entertainers. She loves working on the many puzzles throughout the complex and attends daily armchair exercise classes too! My mom has lived in the Parkview for two years. I have so much peace of mind knowing the staff cares for her physical and emotional well being. The facility is clean, nicely decorated, sunny and cheerful. There's plenty of activities and entertainment (she especially enjoys the regular live musicians and singers). When the weather allows, she can take a stroll around the gardens. The staff at the front desk is quick to respond to any of my questions or concerns. The nursing staff is very efficient even anticipating her medical needs. Let's not forget the dining room - quite a nice menu in which she feels confident in inviting friends or family to join in a meal with her; she always looks forward to the varied dessert options. See with your own eyes before you pay! I was told that I had to start paying immediately on my mom's apartment if I wanted to secure it while she made a cross-country relocation. I was told I needed to start paying immediately because the apartment was vacant and ready for move-in. As there was a waiting list at the time, that seemed fair to me. When I agreed to begin paying and asked for the key to the apartment, since we then owned it, I was shocked to discover that the previous resident's entire belongs were still in the apartment: her bed and bedroom furniture, family photos, dining table and chairs, TV, recliner, bathrobe on the door and toiletries neatly spread about - - it was as if the resident had just stepped out to lunch. When I complained to the director, Ms. Sylvia Zaininger, that I didn't feel that I should pay when another party's full furnishings were still in the apartment (and obviously I was lied to when I was told that the apartment had been emptied, painted, carpeting shampooed, etc), she was firm in her assistance that I had to begin paying because "Your mother isn't here yet so it doesn't matter that the apartment isn't cleared." When I asked about the dishonesty from her direct report in telling me that the apartment was vacant she deflected all responsibility informing, "I wasn't in on that conversation." I asked "What if it takes the family two months to clear out the apartment?" Sylvia simply replied "It won't take two months." I reported that it's already been a week that I was being charged for an apartment that I couldn't use. Her answer: "That's how it works when there's a waitlist. My job, as the director, is to keep income flowing at all times for all apartments." I have that statement in writing from the director. I'm pretty sure what Sylvia tried to do - have my family pay for an apartment that was not even in the beginning stages of a clear out, is not legal. However, I didn't challenge the issue because I would never subject a family member to The Parkview in light of the management. We pulled out immediately. My advice to others: Do not begin to pay rent until you see with your own eyes that the apartment is truly available. The Parkview management won't hesitate to lie in an effort to keep monthly rents flowing. read more

My mom was on Parkview's waiting list for an available room for a long time. When we finally had a room secured, my sister bought my mom's first class cross-county flight ticket and I finalized the moving arrangements with the company that would move my mom's belongings across the country. As my sister said, in the Donna D. review, the Parkview began charging my mom weeks before my mom would be moving in, having told us that my mom's room was empty and prepared for her arrival. After my sister confronted Sylvia about how we were deceived into paying before the room was emptied and ready, Sylvia never apologized for this unethical billing. She told my sister that "somebody needs to be paying for that room," making it clear that the Parkview doesn't see it as their responsibility to assume the overhead on a room during the days when the room is in transition (the days during which a resident moves out and the room must be cleaned, painted and the carpeting shampooed in preparation for the new resident). Sylvia responds to every question in a calm, modulated tone, frequently not even responding to the question asked. You know how you can watch a debate and the candidate doesn't even answer the question the moderator has asked? Sylvia's very good at that. Case in point? Look at Parkview's generic response to my sister's review. Nothing in the response is even relevant to the review. We were left in a mess after deciding not to move my mom to the Parkview. Not only did we lose money canceling my mom's flight and the moving company reservation, we had to start from scratch to get on another assisted living facility's wait list. That lack of integrity at the very beginning of our relationship with the Parkview cast a long shadow over our impression of the facility. read more

My Father has been at Parkview for over 2yrs and I can honestly say the staff there are like his 2nd family! They are very attentive to his needs and always let me know how he's doing . Sylvia their executive administrator is Incredible; always available to help in any way she can! Karen their clinical nurse has the patience of a saint and her expertise in the speciality of Geriatrics benefits every resident at the Parkview! I am always impressed with how much compassion the staff has for each individual! I look forward to seeing the activity schedule when I visit knowing there is always a FUN event that will be happening that day. When my mother urgently needed a place to stay I called the Parkview. I was concerned that they would have a long wait list but they got her a shared apartment right away and moved her to a private apartment after a few weeks. We had looked at it before and she liked it so I was happy that she got in. She told me that the staff was taking really good care of her. I visited her everyday and they were always friendly and attentive. They have attendants who helped with personal needs and the maintenance man even hung her paintings. My mother stayed for 3 months and she remarked many times about how much she liked the place and how well they took care of her. read more

My mother-in-law has been at The Parkview for close to 4 years now, and we don't know what we would have done without them. The staff all treat her as if she were their own special grandmother. If she needs something, we immediately receive a call. Silvia, the managing director, runs the Parkview beautifully and keeps the facility in amazing condition. The Parkview is amazing. Every employee knows each resident by name. Mom moved in after taking a fall and spending some time in a skilled nursing facility. She had lived independently up until the fall so she was reluctant to move from her home. Her rehabilitation once she moved to Parkview was impressive. Staff checks in on residents and encourages participating in activities. Mom has not been this social in a long time. She goes on scenic drives, plays bingo, exercises, worships, and attends recitals. We dine with her sometimes and the food quality/selection is very good. We are relieved to feel she is in a safe environment. And family actually enjoys the facility when they visit. To sum it up, mom tells all her friends she feels like she is on vacation. read more

My 96 year old mother was EVICTED from the memory care area of the Parkview and it happened without warning. My mother's dementia suddenly took a downturn. She had severe paranoia. Although I was working with Drs from day one, and the Parkview staff was well aware of that, there was no communication between the director, Sylvia and myself, that Sylvia was contemplating kicking my mother out. Not a warning....nothing. It was only when my mother got out of the locked facility for the THIRD time in two weeks, having run into the street the last time, that they were forced to report the incident to the state. When I returned from the emergency room with my mother, I was ask to go to Sylvia's office. The first thing she said was "I could either give you a 3 day eviction notice or a 30 day eviction notice!" I felt the blood drain from my face. I was already beyond exhaustion, two weeks of watching my beloved mother crumble before my eyes and working daily with Drs to desperately stabilize mom's paranoia, when added on to all the emotional angst, I now have to find a place for her to live while she is so sick. How unprofessional and inhumane! First of all how does a 96 year old get out of a "locked" facility, not just once but three times within two weeks? Let's blame my mother for the failings of a facility. Is this how we treat our elderly and their families during one of the most difficult times? It is known that dementia does not get better, it only gets worse and there is no way to know what direction it will take. The Drs were trying a medication that takes weeks to work and if that one doesn't work they try another which also takes weeks to take effect. Let's kick someone when they're down, when the resident and the families need the support of the facility the most. Is this where you want your loved ones when faced with adversity? read more

The Parkview is a beautiful and very clean community for seniors. I am a vendor and we have several patients on services that live at the Parkview. I visit the community every week. Everyone is very professional and friendly from Emma at the front desk to the med techs/caregivers on the floor caring for the residents. Lisa and Christine the Assisted Living Director and assistant handle themselves very professionally with an obvious love and compassion for the residents. They are true advocates for seniors and it's obvious that their heart is in the right place. One of the most desirable things about this community is the long tenure of the staff and management which is rare in Assisted Living. The community is always spotless. There is always something going on and it is a common occurrence to catch the residents enjoying one of the many daily events that are provided. It's no wonder why this lovely community always has a waitlist. read more

My mom has been here almost three years and it has been wonderfull. All the staff are friendly and take good care of her. My mom can be a challenge at times and they have been willing to adjust to make sure she gets the care she needs. I think sometimes people think that Assisted Living is about having a place for your parents, moving them in and forgetting about it. I don't care how good a place is you have to be actively involved in your parents lives there as things constantly change with them. read more

My Father was at the Parkview Memory Care for 1 1/2 years. He was always treated with dignity and respect and a genuine caring attitude. After over 2 years at the Parkview Assisted Living Facility, in the below market rate program, my mom's condition required more care. There was no below market rate unit available in the memory care unit. So, while we searched for another facility that could care for my mom, the Parkview took her to the Memory Care Unit every morning and returned her to her room every evening. This went on for almost 4 months. It's with great sadness that we move her to a new facility because this was the absolute BEST place for her to live! The staff was always very caring and sweet and always took the time to listen to her. I agree with some of the other postings that the individuals who work at the Parkview are angels sent from heaven to care for the elderly. Thank you Sylvia and all the care-givers at the Parkview! My step father, Gerhard, has been in the Parkview for 8 years. He will be 102 on Sept. 2nd this year. The Parkview have helped him with all his needs and I attribute his great care for him living over 100 years old. Eight years ago he came to the Parkview after having 2 strokes in a year because he was living without assistance in his own home. He had one stay in the hospital last year for a few days. He was put on hospice (Hope Hospice) since last August. I recently changed to Vitas (a hospice company) after a horrible experience with Hope Hospice. Hope Hospice put my step father on a drug that caused him to sleep and stop eating, The Parkview nurse called a meeting with Hope Hospice nurse and doctor and we all were horrified of how they treated me and could not give valid reasons for over medicating my step father. After the meeting they (doctor and nurse) said they were going to visit my step father and when I said I wanted to go too they said that is ok, when I said I really wanted to go they decided they were not going to see him and that made me more suspicious. I asked The Parkview if they had another hospice to call and they gave me a number and I changed within an hour and a half. I checked with Sylvia who runs the Parkview and found that the problem was not with their staff complaining (who had been working for 8 years with my step father) but the hospice nurse that was there to help my step father. Even at his age my step father had told me he did not like the nurse- and I see her solution was to drug him with a powerful drug that I had to stop twice. Thanks for the Parkview in exposing this horrible hospice and finding a new one so quickly. I really appreciate all of their help, concern and excellent care that my step father has received from the Parkview and their staff. Sylvia has been excellent as a support to me as well as in helping my father receive a less expensive room so he could remain there (he would have run out of money a few years ago. She has a number of conditions that can be considered cumbersome for some caregivers but the caregivers at the Parkview display a lot of compassion and patience, making this facility a home that my mother wishes to spend the remainder of her days. My dad moved into this facility in April 2014. The staff welcomed him with open arms and introduced him to new friends. I have not had any problems with the staff or the facility. I have had my dads doctor change some of his meds and the nurses have done a wonderful job implementing the doctors orders. If you spend some time visiting the Parkview you will see how nice the staff is to everyone. You will see the staff that is always smiling, happy and helpful I am really happy that I found this assisted living facility for my dad. If there is any issue they will notify you a.s.a.p. As for Hospice, this facility works with hospice and that has allowed my dad to have dignity during his end of life time. Wonderful care by the staff. My mother never lacks for attention or assistance. I am kept informed of all issues and problems and the management is always available for consultation and discussion. The rooms are kept very clean, the food is wonderful and in fact I eat there weekly with my mother and have no complaints. Parkview has daily activities and is near parks and downtown. The apartments are safe and secure and the residents are happy and engaging. I would not hesitate to recommend Parkview for anyone's parents. read more

My mother was a resident of Parkview for about 1-1/2 years prior to her death. During that time, there were occasional issues with staff communication and things were sometimes overlooked between shifts. However, the caregivers and medical staff are the most caring and compassionate people I have ever met. My mother was under hospice care for the last 8 days there and everyone who works there - from the receptionists to Sylvia - came by to see her and spend time with her. Some even came by after their shifts were over! The medical staff was amazing. The hospice company (not to be named here) was a disappointment and depended almost entirely on the Parkview staff. And they came through with flying colors! My mother truly loved some of the caregivers and medics and it quickly became clear why. We will always remember them - they are WONDERFUL. read more

After 2 years in the Parkview's assisted living apartments, my mother's needs necessitated moving her into the Memory Unit wing. Even though there wasn't an available room yet, my mother was offered day care (escorted to memory care before breakfast, returned to her assisted living unit after dinner). I mention this because my mother's needs were considered the priority, so the accommodations were made. My mother has now happily moved into her nest in Memory Care where she has a beautiful view of a park. This smaller unit of Parkview is full of light, fastidiously clean and cheerful, has many stimulating activities, and the caretakers (WHERE does Sylvia find these human treasures ?) are sweet, caring and responsive. While my mother was in the daycare program and was somewhat disoriented and sad, the caretakers were so especially sweet and loving to her (and to me ! I needed a lot of support and assurance). I continue to be so grateful for the fine line the employees walk--ALWAYS protective of the resident's safety while being so caring and solicitous of the resident's feelings. This is a special calling; these darlings clearly care about these seniors. It cannot be underscored too much; placing a loved one in a facility has its host of complicated feelings !! Knowing that they are in such a terrific (and gorgeous ) appropriately appointed environment is such a relief. read more

My mother lived in Assisted Living at Parkview for close to two years. During that time she received excellent care. I live close by and would drop by throughout the day. The staff treated Mom with kindness and compassion. Mom's memory was failing and the staff made many accommodations to make her quality of life better. Sylvia Zaininger was completely open with us in talking about Mom's special needs and helped us make difficult decisions. She and the nursing staff did their utmost to ensure that Mom was well cared for. They were helpful in educating us about what to expect as Mom's memory declined. They had excellent suggestions for us regarding moving into the role of becoming the parents to my Mother. I placed my mother in their care and never regretted that decision. The standards of care and the openness and availability of the administration and nursing staff were consistent throughout Mom's years at Parkview. She was treated with dignity and courtesy.
