If one or your loved ones needs care post surgery DO NOT send them here. My mom had a total colostomy due to her colon cancer being too far along. She had her surgery Dec. 4th and was healing nicely and was good to be discharged. She was discharged Dec. 12th and sent to Fremont Healthcare Center for rehab and PT. Mind you my mom was able to get up with help and walk to use the bathroom before going to this facility. During her time at Fremont Healthcare Center her health got worse!!! She was getting weaker and weaker. Her areas where my mom's stitches were got infected!!! The area where my mom's colostomy bag is got infected!!! The CNA's at this facility do not know what they are doing!!! When they clean my mom they do a poor job. They still leave my mom partially soiled. At around 11:30pm thursday Dec. 26th i reveived a call from the favility telling me they are aending my mom back to Washington Hospital because her bloodwork came back very poor. 11:30pm!!!!! That tells me either they are lazy or they are just too short staffed to read paperwork! When I got to the ER I find out my mom's potassium is high! Sodium is low! And kidneys not working properly!!! How the hell does all that happen??? 2 weeks at Fremont Healthcare and my mom has no strength to get up, even with help. She is just now bed ridden. Now I fear my mom is starting to battle depression because she is not her outgoing bubbly self. Even post surgery my mom was still my mom. Its like now I don't even know who this person is. I've come to the realization my mom was slowly dying at Fremont Healthcare Facility. The one good thing they did was do blood work. I also believe they did blood qork cause they knew somwthing was wrong with my mom. If they didn't my mom would not be getting the care she is getting now at Washington Hospital. Now not only is my mom trying to heal from her surgery and getting stronger so she could function independently like she used to, but thanks to Fremont Healthcare Center now she is just trying to stay alive.

They have an ant & cockroach infestation, ants that crawl on the patients and inside of the trach tubes, and then the interdisciplinary team discusses whether it's legal or not that they have to tell the patient's family (they chose not to) they being Jamie, who was director of nursing, Arnold who works with compliance and Malou who was Charge Nurse. They cover up abuse from employees, and go over any problematic patients in their monthly QAPI meetings. If a patient is found to be problematic, the hospital will transfer them anywhere else even if it's over 50 miles from the family. The employees are not allowed to break HIPAA by law, but they regularly look up the patients on the Internet and access their charts, even though they are not under their specific care. They found out that a patient had sued an airline and the second that the family made a complaint, they moved the patient to a different facility. They always leave their computer monitors on which is also a HIPAA violation because they are supposed to lock their screen so that nobody can see patient charts or information and they regularly ignore that rule. They had state come in and audit them for their bathing and showering, I overheard a patient's telling an employee that they had not been bathed in over a week and I could smell the foul odor coming out of the room. They had been dinged by state for not giving baths or showers properly or on time or consistently to their patients, and their solution to that was for management to tell the employees and CNA's to chart that they did it even if they had not so that they don't get in trouble from state again. If they were to audit the bathing and showering again, they would see that multiple CNA's are signing off as bathing the same patient in one day which is not accurate or true. These employees at the top management are corrupt, they overcharge Medicare for patients care that they are not providing, the case managers work closely with management to move any problematic patient, and they have no accountability for patient care. They break HIPPA laws by leaving patient information accessible, and by looking them up in charts or on the internet when they have no legal right to. IF YOU DO SEND YOUR FAMILY HERE, MAKE SURE TO BE PRESENT IN PERSON 4x A WEEK TO MAKE SURE YOUR FAMILY IS BEING CARED FOR, THE STAFF ABUSE PATIENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE FAMILY ADVOCATES!!!!!!!

"Compassion paired with courage."…read more I want to share my experience with Carol in the VA advocacy office because what she did for us goes far beyond ordinary help. Carol showed the kind of compassion, courage, and skill that you rarely see in any system, and she did it with complete grace. I came to her with concerns about an elderly veteran who was clearly vulnerable and being taken advantage of. Navigating a situation like that is complicated, emotional, and fragile. But Carol handled it in the most thoughtful, respectful way I've ever witnessed. She protected him without making him feel embarrassed, criticized, or ashamed. She made him feel safe -- and she made me feel safe too. She asked careful questions, looked at the situation from every angle, and gently guided the conversation so everyone's needs were honored. She set boundaries without hurting anyone's feelings. She advocated without escalating. And she managed to defend someone who needed protection without making a single person defensive. That is a rare gift. For the first time in a long time, I saw a VA staff member step into a difficult situation with genuine compassion, wisdom, and patience. She didn't judge, she didn't rush, and she didn't dismiss anything we shared. Instead, she created a calm space where the veteran felt respected, supported, and understood. I walked away thinking: This is what advocacy is supposed to look like. If the VA had more people like Carol--people who can be both protective and kind, both strong and gentle--the entire system would feel different for veterans and for the families who support them. She is truly exceptional.

There are also outdoor tables and chairs for patients and visitors to enjoy the courtyard. Security seems to be nonexistent here as anyone can go into the hospital which seems to be a safety issue. There are many security cameras and a sign prohibiting firearms, however there should be a check in process for authorized visitors to visit patients. There is a parking structure and parking lot under solar panels so cars are kept out of the sun. In the parking lot there is an ample amount of accessible parking. The pathway leading to the accessible spaces is much wider and there is a generous amount of room between the spaces for adequate egress.

If you are reading this, you likely have a loved one who is heading into rehab, spinal cord injury…read moreor stroke related. I am writing this because there isn't much info about this place, and I had a family member in here for about 3 weeks. I wanted info, but found little, so here is my way of helping someone else who may be coming to this rough patch in the road. OVERALL: 10/10 WHERE IS IT? It's a section of the 3rd floor of the main Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo, it is not a separate building. There are 2 sections of rooms, both on the 3rd floor. One section is directly above the Labor & Delivery (2nd floor), and the other section is in the main hospital wing. PARKING: You can park in Lot 2 (open to anyone) or park in the parking garage, park closest to the elevators. Parking is free in both areas. It gets busy, so they even have a parking valet until 5pm in the main loop. WHAT HAPPENS? They will take the patient in, and the doctor will do a quick initial assessment when the patient arrives. The doctor will likely ask the patient to rest for the remainder of day. The following day is an assessment by all of the specialist departments, OT, PT, and Speech Therapy (which is also related to memory). They have a huddle and decide what would be the best plan of action for rehab, and determine an estimated discharge date. Most patients had about 2 weeks as their initial window. Depending on the progress, they could extend the therapy for an additional 5 days if they believe progress is being made, so your timeline may be extended. Ours was extended twice. DAILY: The patients are given a daily schedule of all their 30-minute therapy classes (some acronyms were new to me: OTD is OT for dressing in the morning, RME is resistance mat exercises). Weekend class schedule is different and varies per patient, usually less classes. If no family member is there to take the patient to their class, the nurses or therapists get them there. There are lines on the floor to help navigate the area: PT is red, Speech is orange, OT is green, and admin offices is brown. ROOMS: Some patients get a large private room, and some are in a quad-room which separates 4 patients by hospital curtains. Just depends on what opens up first. VISITORS: They allow one guest to stay full-time in the patient's room. You can request a pull out bed that is surprisingly comfortable. You can shower in the patient's bathroom (some have Jack & Jill bathrooms between 2 patients rooms, so be sure to lock both doors). Your loved one will likely be tired from all the therapy classes, so try to limit guests so they can rest. AMENITIES: They have a laundry room where you can bring your own HE (high efficiency) detergent, and wash clothes for free. There is a family room which is a large room with tables for families to visit with their loved one. You also could do some laptop work in there if needed. Ice and water dispensers, shared fridge so be sure to label your items, and hospital type snacks (graham crackers, soup broth, etc) The family room by the rehab gym is nicer and more well lit than the one in the other area. FOOD: There is a standard hospital cafeteria on the 1st floor. During the week they have a salad bar, hot foods, and cold foods. Weekends is a small menu. On Mondays and Fridays there is a farmer's market. Down Sereno Drive (left when exiting the hospital) are 2 grocery stores (Food Basket and 168) and a small neighborhood Walmart. If you can drive, go across 80, there are lots of food options and stores (Target, Nick the Greek, Ike's, Starbucks, Costco, DSW, Marshalls, In-n-Out, etc) LODGING: If you need to stay somewhere, the Homewood Suites in Fairfield is about a 15 minute drive up 80, from the hospital. It's equipped with a kitchen and small gym, plus free breakfast in the mornings. Park in the front, the back gets extremely dark. Leave zero items in your vehicle, and you are good. Hang in there, you got this.

Hospitable guards, check in folks, all the way to the nurses. Prep time was swift and efficient. The entire time people are sharing with me what to expect and reassuring me that I will be ok. Perhaps fear shown on my disposition. My previous experience was nothing like this, not comparing, I appreciate Kaiser and the professionals there, but this felt sooooo safe. My Cardioversion without TEE, happened and when I woke my ticker was right back where it should be and I was met with a slew of caring physicians who wanted to see my smile with a regular heart beat.
