Came here for the first time with some friends on a cold and rainy winter evening and got to experience their rooftop igloo situation. The inside of the igloos was pretty spacious and warm thanks to a little electric fire and the couches were comfy. I wasn't personally bothered by the rain, but one of my friends was sitting underneath one of the zippers and got wet from the rain leaking in through the zipper hole. Food wise I just ordered a glass of moscato which was very nice and tried a few of my friend's fries which were fine, but nothing special and quite pricey. Overall it was a cool experience but the food and drinks were overpriced and took a really long time to come out so I don't know if it was really worth it. read more

I saw a lot of buzz on Instagram about dining in an igloo for the holiday season, so I wanted to try it since I thought it would be a cool experience! The food and concept were great, but unfortunately the experience was a little lackluster. I made reservations a few weeks ahead of time online because this does sell out. I did the prix fixe igloo dinner experience that's $65 per person. There are four courses included and you can add drinks for an additional fee. When you book the reservation for this, they also take a $50 deposit that gets applied to the final bill. I also learned later there is a 20% service charge added to your bill too. My husband and I got there a few minutes ahead of our reservation and were able to be taken to our igloo immediately. Sadly, that was when the superb service ended. Our igloo was right next to the hostess stand and the few times she was actually sitting at the stand, she was on her phone FaceTiming someone. The Igloo Prix Fixe is advertised as a 90 minute "leisurely" dining experience, but this was way too slow of service. It took almost 20 minutes for our server to greet us and take our order. When you order, you order all four courses at once. I ordered the bay gem salad, butternut squash ravioli, truffle steak (a $5 up-charge), and butterscotch pudding. They didn't have the ravioli, so they substituted it to for macaroni & cheese. My husband also ordered a soda. Course 1 came in about 5ish minutes; however, it took 30 minutes for my husband to get his soda. It then took 40 minutes after Course 1 for Course 2. Course 3 came 10 minutes later. Course 4 came 20 minutes after that. I will say all the food was great! I would only recommend they work on food timing. It felt that there should have been a longer wait between Course 2 and 3 rather than 1 and 2. The whole experience also took a little bit longer than 90 minutes, so people should be aware in case they had plans elsewhere afterwards. The inside of the igloo dining area was nice! There were 2 couches and chairs near a space heater so you didn't have to worry about the cold outside. Overall, this was a unique experience, but I probably would not do it again though based on the service. read more

We booked the igloo experience. The service was very slow. They were out of glasses. They served an old fashioned in a martini glass. That is the first time I've seen that. The food was below average. We have to wait 40mins for our entree. The pork chop was over salted and over cooked. The hanger steak was very tough. Overall very disappointing experience. Came here for our 18th wedding anniversary. My husband got us a room overlooking the igloos and we had a 5:15 dinner reservation. Which is the perfect time as the sun is setting. The igloo is decorated very modern and seemed cleaned. Would like to see them maybe Lysol it after guests especially with flu season but we used lots of hand sanitizer. We ordered our drinks and all 4 courses at the same time. Our salads came out before the drinks which is fine. We got the spicy ceaser salad and it was absolutely phenomenal. Obviously portions are small but I would appreciated a bit bigger salad. Next up after we finished our salads was the Mac and cheese (didn't have the squash ravioli) which is fine as we would have preferred the Mac and cheese vs ravioli. The Mac and cheese was SO good. Pipping hot in the middle. After that came our steaks. A but on the smaller side. Smaller then my palm but again, it's a 4 course so knew we'd be full. The steak was good. Almost like a post roast. The sauce they use was really good. Could have used another steak as it was small. They grabbed our plates and it took around 45 minutes to bring our TINY chocolate mousse out. We almost walked out waiting for it but thought it would be worth our wild. It was TWO bites. It was pretty comical. Server never checked on us after grabbing our steak plates to say sorry for the wait. Lucky for her, the 20% gratuity was built in. Overall we left happy (sorta annoyed) as you are paying for the vibe and the ambiance. Would recommend this for a special evening if you have patience and no plans afterwards. Luckily we just had to go up a flight of stairs to our room lol Our total came to $320 with 2 alcoholic drinks, one N/A and 3 steak up charges. Pretty steep. Would love to see it not a set menu and you order off one big menu what you want. I think it'd bring in more people. I think this is such a fun idea for the holidays! Rent out an igloo and enjoy some holiday drinks with friends! I will say the drinks and igloo rentals are very overpriced but you're paying for the experience. If you don't reserve an igloo, there are other spots to sit at or you can sit in the polar plunge which is also heated. Just to spread some holiday cheer, I'd come here for a drink with some friends but probably wouldn't get any food. Overall a fun experience! read more

I wrote to the Patio after a poor experience there and never got a response. See below for the original email: I am writing to inform you of a very disappointing Igloo experience our group had last night (reservation under XXX at 8 pm). I am a big Unscripted fan; I have hosted multiple large party events there, including my 30th birthday, my bachelorette, a work going away and my cousin's bachelorette. I have coordinated with Paul in the past, which is why I'm including him in this email. Alls to say, I'm a loyal customer and I frequently spread word about what a treasure it is to downtown durham! Without a reasonable explanation for or acknowledgement of last night, I will no longer be able to recommend it as a gathering place for friends and family ... The service we received was comically atrocious, to be quite frank. The staff was mostly friendly, but they came off as quite clueless - it felt like no one knew what was going on. Our waitress had a delightful composition, but it took over an hour for our drinks to arrive, and even when they did arrive, it was in a staggered fashion. It was unclear whether the drink orders yet to be fulfilled had been forgotten about or were on the way... and when we went to the bar to inquire, we were told to wait in our igloo for our waitress (who was nowhere to be found). Additionally, we had to correct multiple drink orders - either the wrong drink was brought, it was called the wrong name by the wait staff making us think it was the wrong drink, or it was given to the wrong person. We had to ask for water to be brought four times over before a new pitcher was brought to our igloo. When the food was brought out, we had to chase someone down to bring us silverware and napkins (and when provided, it was in the form of a pile of knives and forks wrapped in a pile of napkins for our party to individually distribute). The food was incredibly subpar, especially for the price point. The $24 ravioli was literally four ravioli that were comparable to pre-packaged Costco ravioli. The $17 beet salad was a small line of beet fragments on the plate sat atop wilted lettuce. The $18 charcuterie board was bland cheese with no crackers or toast as accompaniment. When we asked for crackers or bread, over 20 minutes later, we were brought a truly comical plate of toast (see picture attached). Thank goodness for my delicious Old Fashioned that was helping me see the humor! We ordered the crispy parmesan fries and what arrived was a lukewarm bowl of fries that again, were incredibly convincing as being from the Costco frozen food section. When we voiced that we must have gotten the wrong order, because they were supposed to come with parmesan on top and a dipping sauce, the waiter said she would be back with a new order. A kitchen runner then approached the table and with a scowl said "we sent two orders of parmesan fries to 209." We were willing to troubleshoot with them ("are we 209?," "we received one, not two, order of plain fries but were expecting parmesan fries" and "we only ordered one order of fries in the first place"), to which they continued to insist "we sent two orders of parmesan fries to 209," getting nowhere. Lastly, my friend who made the reservation had already paid the $500 ahead of time, but was still given a receipt for a total amount due of $501. We explained that the deposit had already been paid and thought everything was sorted out. Some of our party left, and as the last couple of folks were getting ready to leave, a waiter approached one of them in the BATHROOM insisting that we hadn't paid. The waiter did not provide a receipt, but simply insisted that our friend provide her with a card to be run. Ultimately, it was agreed that it could be run for $1 as that is what we were assuming the discrepancy in price was. To give credit where it's due: my Old Fashioned was yummy and my husband's spiked hot chocolate was also great. However, this is certainly not enough to bring us back anytime soon. read more

Had an absolutely excellent meal in a cute and cozy igloo pool side of this lovely art deco hotel, unscripted by Hyatt. I booked this special meal to celebrate my wedding anniversary while on a trip to Durham. There were some technical/communication issues with the reservation and the booking. (I booked a package with hotel). Janelle the one duty manager did everything in her power to make sure we were taken care of. She was polite, courteous and patient with the whole situation. There was alot going on that night including an engagement party. But Janelle made you feel like you were the only one that mattered when she talked to you. She is a true professional and understands customer service. She turned a potential scheduling issue/disappointment into a delightful special dinner/ event. Ryan our server was very good at what he does. He truly cared about diners' experience. He was always checking in on us. The food was well prepared and fresh. The igloo is a great! Cute dinner date experience or great for a small group. The igloos are super cozy with a fake fire pit that puts out heat. Again, My wife and I throughly enjoyed dinner and highly recommend this place and the igloos. read more

Friends and I were so excited to do the Igloo last night! We reserved our spot ahead from 8-10PM The good- The SCENE is wonderful, we love the vibe on the pool deck with all the Christmas trees- whoever designed it has a great eye and laid out great vibes! Our server - Super nice, I think mostly did the best they could with how slow the kitchen was/out of food/ which I'll get to in a moment- but definitely could still have been more attentive with drinks (we would have ordered more across the unplanned 3.5 hours we ended up there to stay a little warmer The bad- Was REALLY bad- and we went in with reasonable expectations on "hotel food" but other than the first course salad, the rest was microwaved and may have even been Kirkland. We would have accepted that, but they were OUT of at least one item on EVERY course - meaning the $65 per person you paid, you got what was lefovert - not what you wanted (PATIO MANAGERS - change THIS process and take your orders ahead with RESERVATIONS guys, mgmt lesson 101- you could totally avoid this really poor experience issue by simply planning ahead with your Igloo reservations) It was also a minimum of an hour between courses. Our food from the cheese board to everything after course 2 was forgotten then quickly reheated. Rubber chicken, anyone? Regardless we played cards and enjoyed the time in the space, but were starving by the time our entrees finally arrived around 10:30PM (half hour past our booking end time). Ended up home after midnight, not my plan for working the next day. I'd recommend this as a fun spot for drinks and a cheeseboard to anyone who hasn't done this yet. You're gambling on an over priced microwaved dinner otherwise!! This should have been such an enjoyable experience, especially for $500 for 4 people. The igloo itself is a unique idea but not at all functional. The staff has to unzip it each time coming in and out. It was a very cold night so every time it opens all of the heat goes out. Servers were good. Drinks were expensive but good. 17.00 for a Martini in a plastic glass. The pre fix meal was definitely not worth the money. 60.00 per person but they up charge you for the steak which they should tell you even though it's written very tiny on the menus. The extra 30.00 on the bill was a surprise to my husband and I. The steak was tough and way too salty. All of the food was mediocre and not served hot enough. The cobbler was not warm and the Chocolate cake was cold and not that fresh. This restaurant is most definitely not worth the money. We spend less money at some of the 5 star restaurants in Raleigh. There was a $5 upcharge for the steak and a $3 upcharge for the shrimp, which was disappointing--when a menu is advertised as preset, there shouldn't be additional charges. Beyond that, the food quality was lacking and the service was slow...and there was a 20% gratuity included. We were hoping to enjoy a fun holiday tradition, but unfortunately this was a one-and-done experience for us. I did the Igloos at the rooftop with 3 other friends this year. If you want to do this, you need to make a reservation several months in advance! Overall I had a fun time and I'm glad we went, but I'm not sure I would go again. I expected the food to be okay and the vibe to be fantastic - but it was the other way around! The food was much better than I expected. For the igloos, it's a 4-course experience ($60/pp) and each course I had was amazing (I got the salad, butternut squash pasta, short rib, and bread pudding). They aren't huge portions, but enough to be full at the end of the night. They also had fun cocktails or a wine pairing with each course for $30. The service top notch, they gave you enough time for each course and were very professional. Another note is there is a 20% tip included in your bill which is good to plan for if you're considering going. I thought the igloos would be pretty warm but I had to keep a heavy coat on the whole time and I wished I had gloves. They only had one small space heater in the igloo. Being cold really detracted from my experience. The set up also made it difficult to eat. There was a couch and 4 chairs but the set up wasn't ideal for eating dinner. For the high price, I wish they would have added a bit more decoration to the igloos. read more

This is a great place to take friends or a date night to have a fun experience and get great photos! The service was good, I give them props for serving in the cold all night. Let's start with the drinks, very good and worth every penny. We had a few, one being the son of a nutcracker. Very tasty! The food. We started with the cheese board and tomato bisque. The cheese board was really good, and came with blueberries (I think) jam on top.. I could eat that everyday. The bisque was pretty cold. Which I had read in other reviews. Made me a little sad. We got the pastas for the second course. My husbands was at temp. Our main course was really good. I got the scallops and he got the short rib. We were happy with the flavor and both were cooked perfectly. Overall this place is all about the experience and having a good time. The food was subpar for what you pay. The patio at unscripted requires a reservation months in advance and also a minimum spend. When I originally booked the minimum was $200 by the time my reservation came around it was upped to $300. They honored the $200 due to the timing of my reservation which I could appreciate. The drinks and raw oysters were were amazing. However everything else that we ordered did not meet expectations especially at such a high price point. The food was bland and didn't have much flavor (if any ) and left much to be imagined. The scenery was very nice and the vibes were cool but the food missed the mark completely. I was looking forward to visiting her as a saw them on TikTok and was looking initially excited about the patio experience. I love visiting this rooftop for a variety of reasons (pool, DJ, view) but their food and drinks are at the top of the list! We rented a cabana for a birthday and had to spend a minimum amount, but that was easy between 9 people (10 max). We ordered a variety of items but my favorites were the crabcakes, short rib tacos, frose, and pina colada. My group didn't particularly like the shrimp scampi or spicy Thai chicken and rice. Their menus change per season because when I went back in January for the igloo experience, we had diff meals but I remember those being good as well. read more

I was expecting more from this spot based on what I have heard from friends and have seen on social media. Unfortunately I was less than impressed when I actually saw it for myself. The pool is tiny and the food and beverage minimums are not worth the price paid but I guess if you are wanting pool party vibes in the summer and "igloo vibes" in the winter it may be worth it to hang out with friends. Since we were staying at Unscripted we got two free drinks, it was a beer for me and a jack and coke for my husband. We only tried basic drinks so I can't speak to their nicer cocktails or food. We had our first date night out in forever.... and this igloo setup was the perfect venue for a socially distant romantic night on the town. The waitstaff was knowledgeable + super friendly!! The food was hands down the best ... not pictured are the delicious crab cake that we devoured and the incredibly savory spiked fries ( because we ate it so fast before thinking to snap a pic ). I'm hoping to go back and try out the brunch menu. This igloo pop up is around until March 2021, so you should put this on your to-do list. read more

This is the second time we've dined here, once pre-COVID when they opened, and this latest experience under social distancing. The long and short of it is that the outdoor patio and views are fun (especially if you have a table looking down to street level) but the food is just okay. My barbecue burger was decent but not distinguishable. Same with the bruschetta. We did enjoy the guac on a previous visit but did not order it this time. I will say our server was pleasant and efficient. Due to COVID, they pretty much serve you in disposable takeout containers and plasticware. What a charming, winter wonderland experience! Made an igloo reservation for a Friday night for a group of girlfriends and myself. Note that weekend time slots seem to go fast, so I actually reserved this almost 2 months ago. Ambiance ambiance ambiance! The atmosphere is a lot of what you're paying for, and if you're a sucker for gorgeous bright lights and a winter aesthetic, then this is for you. We were even greeted in such a fun way - one of the staff members held up sparklers and paraded us around the pool before bringing us to our own heated private igloo. Almost felt like a rooftop nightclub! Matt was our waiter and he was super friendly and attentive throughout the night. The menu is quite expansive, with lots of fun winter cocktails, wine, and apps and mains. There's also several dessert options! We split several of the apps in addition to our entrees - definitely recommend the gyoza and chicky chicky boom boom as starters. As for drinks, I don't think you can go wrong here, but I especially enjoyed my frosé! For my entree I chose the salmon, which was served with quinoa cooked with red onions and cranberries. Not the best salmon I've ever had but definitely solid. Skip the lava cake (there is no lava that oozes out sadly). Although the website says you're to stick to the 2 hour time slot, we were able to linger for an extra half hour. It's not a cheap experience, but it's worth coming at least once before this pop-up ends! Felt safe and almost like normal nightlife, making for a memorable evening. I arrived here with 2 friends for brunch at around 1PM on a Saturday. We ordered two patio burgers, one crispy crispy and our meal came with fries. I really enjoyed the meal and thought everything was delicious. We also ordered drinks, which I can't comment too much on because I'm not too big on alcohol. I did like the popsicle that my drink (Mighty Mojito) came with though.  Since it is a rooftop bar and we dined outdoors, it got really hot even under the shade of the beach umbrellas. We cooled down in the pool when we finished our meal. They provided free towels for people to use. Also, the DJ was blasting the music a little too loud. My husband and I did the igloo experience back in 2021. A few things to note. The igloo was freezing the whole time because our igloo zippers were broken letting in cold air. This meant our well intended cozy and warm intimate date was more frigid. We asked to be moved but there was nowhere to move us to. Our speaker wasn't working so no music and although our waitress was kind, we were left for 45 minutes at a time. The price minimum of 300 dollars was ridiculous for 2 people. Though I think they've changed it since then. The food was hit and miss depending on what we got but the cocktails were spot on. Although we didn't have any fun and had to order 3 entrees and deserts to hit the minimum, the group beside us seemed to be having blast. I recommend the following: having some sort of flag down system for the staff. (The more I can flag you down, the more I can order drinks) Smaller igloos for couples. Do a four course for 2 option that includes a cocktail. This would easily rack up the 115 dollar price range you are looking to make. Do not put people people in broken igloos. Make sure the speaker works. You need devoted staff per 2 igloos. Not 2 people for 15 igloos. The soap snow was incredible. read more

The Patio is open to the public. It's great for getting drinks and food and relaxing with friends while a DJ plays some great music in the background. The Patio is outdoors, so just make sure to check the weather forecast beforehand. For drinks, I'd highly recommend the frose. Came here for an event for a convention I was at for the weekend. First off I love the view and the music was on point! The dj was perfect for a Saturday afternoon. The food was great and so were the drinks. I give 4 stars because of the service. The staff were quite rude. The bartender didn't really smile or pay much attention to me when ordering a drink. Then the spot we picked, the staff didn't really want to service us in that area. Very disappointing for the money I spent there. Also the pool was very small and overcrowded but surprisingly cold enough with all the people in it! One star for a cool downtown location. One star for a free public pool. One star for the trendy touches like a DJ and a huge inflatable swan. But the food? Don't come for the food. We got there with the hopes of having a nice lunch poolside while people watching. We asked if we could have a table with an umbrella and the hostess said "sure, your server will move one over for you." So we sat down. When the server came they acted bored as they told us they couldn't move the umbrellas, people were using them. I pointed across the pool to a high table that some people were vacating and asked if we could move there. The server said yes, so we picked up our water and walked over. The shade was pleasant, despite the really hot day (and it's only May! Can't imagine how it's going to feel in July up there!). The pool was tiny and very shallow- and too crowded to actually swim in, just for lounging with cocktails. There is a surprising lack of breeze for it being a rooftop. They have large fans that are pleasant, but if someone decides to move it away from you then you're S.O.L. It took a long time for the server to take our order. I ordered a cocktail and the unscripted spinach salad with chicken. My husband got lobster sliders, and we both got fries. My cocktail never came. Plenty of other people got theirs but the server must have forgotten about me. Saved me $12 so ‍. It took a long time for the food to come and, while the people watching was fun, the DJ was really loud and not great. Like 30-seconds of a spice girls song, launching into something weird, then a hard shop before something else. We finally got our food and the salad was disappointing- the spinach was not "heirloom" unless the bagged spinach I've been getting at Food Lion this whole time is also "heirloom". The bacon vinaigrette was good in the first bite, but then I didn't taste it anymore. The chicken was like the frozen chicken you buy in those big bags from Target with the faux grill marks. All in all, missed the mark with me. My husband's lobster roll was nothing to write home about either. In summary, service is slow, servers can't be bothered with you, food isn't good and is very expensive, but it's a party scene with a pool if that's what you're looking for. read more

I visited The Patio on Saturday evening with my partner and her co-worker. After waiting more than 15 minutes to order, our food and drinks hadn't arrived 45 minutes later because they were "understaffed." We politely cancelled our order and asked for our card to be returned. However, when I checked my account statement yesterday, I had been charged for the food and beverages never received. To make matters worse, it's impossible to get someone on the phone at the restaurant. I am disputing my charges with my bank, but caution: this place is a total shitshow. Enjoyed a Galentine's Soirée with friends at Igloos at Unscripted. Food and drinks were pretty good. Nothing to rave home about. The service was ok. Such a fun and interesting place to hang out on a weekend especially on Sunday, have brunch and drinks at the patio and take a dip in the pool while the dj plays reggae sets. The patio has a rooftop pool, located in the heart of downtown Durham and over looks the city. Very great vibes and service! The staff makes sure everyone maintains socials distancing and follows protocol to make sure everyone is safe while enjoying themselves. A must try! read more

3 SCALLOPS FOR THR MAIN COURSE?! 3! Waitress was nice but service was at a snails place. At one point they couldn't find the bartender. $60 per person eating in an "igloo" dining on a side table. Decorations were sub par. Every portion was for a child. I was starving by the the time I received the main course. At first I thought it was a joke. For the main course they give you 3 small scallops and 2 pieces of lettuce. This is just a gimmick spot that looks like a Motel 6 on a rooftop. Oh yea don't forget the 20% "Patio Fee". read more

My boyfriend took me here for a semi rooftop lunch for my birthday. We arrived around 11:30am for a Saturday. The pool is smaller than shown in pictures and there were hotel guests at the pool area. We were seated right away as we were the first ones arriving to eat lol. Our waitress was a friendly Asian lady..she was always smiling just very welcoming. Appetizers we ordered was the gyoza and loaded fries. Nothing too exciting..for lunch we shared the steak frites which were a bit salty for my taste, but we ended up finishing it cause the alcohol started kicking in. Drinks were strong and delish. The Frose was worth it. It has a very Miami feel to the rooftop, 1 star off for the DJ not arriving till 2pm which kinda sucks for the early goers. I def recommend. read more
